Chaffetz To Visit ANWR

July 10th, 2008 | 4 Comments | Posted in Mitt Romney

It’s good to see Jason Chaffetz immediately move toward fulfilling one of his primary election promises, to help America solve it’s energy dependence on Middle Eastern countries. Rather than the eternal dithering of the Democratic Party, who helped to prevent us from taking the necessary steps to start drilling in ANWR years ago, Mr. Chaffetz is taking action to get the facts from federal officials, energy experts and from members of the local community. I have seen recent polls that show Alaskans are heavily in favor of drilling in ANWR, both for their own benefit and the country’s as well. It’s time to start taking common sense action and to stop listening to the advise of the environmental wackos who would have us switch to bicycles and plunge this country into the economic situation that our ancestors enjoyed in the 1890’s.

Seeks Solutions to National Energy Crisis

For Immediate Release

SALT LAKE CITY, UT

Third District Congressional candidate Jason Chaffetz will travel to Alaska’s North Slope next week to explore oil drilling opportunities in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The fact-finding mission, which is scheduled to include six other Congressional candidates from across the nation, is intended to explore firsthand the viability of energy production in ANWR.

The July 14-17 expedition will consist of meetings with local and federal officials, energy experts, and community members. Starting in Anchorage, the group plans to visit Fairbanks, Kaktovik, Prudhoe Bay and Point Barrow.

“Four dollar a gallon gas—on its way to five dollars—is adversely affecting all Americans,” Chaffetz said, pointing out that energy independence is not only an issue of economic security, but also of national security. “We cannot be at the mercy of rogue and unstable nations or we’ll continue to be beholden to radical extremists,” he said.

Chaffetz has called for a national energy policy that includes tort reform, exploration of alternative energy sources and increased production of fossil fuels. By accelerating the application and appeals process for companies working to extract energy in the Arctic, Great Basin and off the continental shelf, Chaffetz says the United States can begin to prepare for the future. “Reducing the legal barriers to increased domestic oil production can resolve short-term energy needs while the private sector works to develop viable alternative energy sources,” Chaffetz said.

Congressional candidates accompanying Chaffetz include: Indiana candidates Luke Puckett, Mike Sodrel, and Greg Goode, and candidates Paul Stark from Wisconsin, Craig Williams from Pennsylvania, and Chris Lien from South Dakota.
