ROMNEY STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR SARAH PALIN
BOSTON. . . Governor Romney today issued the following statement on John McCain’s selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his vice presidential running mate:
“Governor Palin’s story is one that all Americans will find inspiring. She’s a Washington outsider with a commitment to the conservative principles that will make our nation stronger. I look forward to campaigning for Senator McCain, Governor Palin and Republicans all across the country.”

Ya know, McCain put out this video last night specifically to highlight the historic nature of Obama’s nomination:
So, what does Obama do upon McCain’s decision to choose Sarah Palin as his VP Nominee…
“the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency.”
Obama is such a weasel. He can’t even give a civil response. I’m gonna be fighting HARD to ensure he doesn’t get elected President.

While I love Mitt Romney, I am very happy with this choice…A conservative woman, and a mother of a special needs child to boot (that means a whole lot to a person like me).

Drudge Gets It, But Then Again Sometimes He Doesn’t…August 29th, 2008 | 78 Comments | Posted in Announcement, Barack Obama, Drudge, John McCain, Matt Drudge, Mitt Romney, VP, Veepstakes

Remember those Obama/Bayh Bumper Stickers, now Pawlenty getting all this publicity. Now I don’t know who in the world McCain is picking for VP nor have I ever espoused telepathic abilities in that area, but this fawning over what Drudge thinks I think is going a bit over the top. Sure he’s right on a lot of stories, but there are just as many that he gets wrong. So, lets just stay calm everyone. If Romney gets it WONDERFUL, but if he doesn’t…he doesn’t. This speculation is just that. We’ll know when we’re supposed to know.
Just a bit of commentary for what it’s worth.

Mitt Romney Lands in Denver, No News on VP PickAugust 26th, 2008 | 13 Comments | Posted in Governor Mitt Romney, John McCain, Mitt Romney, VP, VP Prospects

Every time I log on to the computer, somewhere in the back of my mind is the VP selection. So far, nothing today.
On another topic, what did you think of Sen. Kennedy’s speech last night? I thought he did a fine job, especially considering his health challenges. It was good to see pictures of Teddy and JFK and RFK when they were young. The film of him piloting his sailboat and quizzing his grandkids on the correct terminology of the different sails was really touching.
Although we are on different planets politically, it was good to remember the human aspects of a family a lot of us grew up with and to see the obvious affection that Ted has for those kids.

Tags: Sen. Edward KennedyDENVER - Former Bay State Gov. Mitt Romney descended on Denver today but said he has no news on if he’ll be John McCain’s vice presidential pick.
“We’re just here to talk about the issues,” Romney told the Herald, adding he’s heard nothing on the VP front.
Speculation has been rampant in recent days that Romney will be McCain’s choice for running mate. McCain is expected to make his announcement Thursday.
Romney also praised Sen. Edward M. Kennedy calling him “a class act” for making a surprise appearance at the Democratic National Convention last night.
“I was very moved by Sen. Kennedy and his effort to come here. It was a powerful thing to do,” Romney said.

And John McCain is out of touch with “real” Americans?
Even NPR touting Romney Veep potential? |
Ambivalent is how I feel about NPR publishing a story touting Romney for Veep. Nonetheless, there does seem to be a critical mass of press about Romney’s Veep potential this last week or two, doesn’t there? Some key quotes:
Romney’s polish as a stand-in, combined with his business success and reassuring demeanor, look better and better as the economic issue ascends. Romney could help out in Michigan, where his name still works. He would also be at least some help in his other home regions of New England and the Mountain West.
Romney was also the guy who would have won in Iowa without the presence of evangelical preacher Mike Huckabee. Romney, who beat McCain soundly in Michigan, surely would have done so again in South Carolina and Florida if he had not been splitting the conservative vote in those states four ways with Huckabee, Fred Thompson and Rudy Giuliani.
Wow, that’s quite an endorsement from an MSM stalwart like NPR. I totally agree with the sentiment but…it’s NPR!

Vote for Mitt in the VP Madness Poll |
Sorry folks for the long absence folks, but I am only temporarily back from the dead. My life got many times more hectic about the same time Romney dropped from the race. I’m still reading all the news but am no longer able to report it.
I did want to draw your attention to a certain poll that Hector from Romney Veep Watch has been pushing for a while now. The poll is sort of a play-off format between possible VP candidates. Right now it’s in the second round (out of 5) and Romney is currently losing to Mark Sanford, 55-45.
Voting closes today, so head on over to CQ Politics and vote for Romney in their VP Madness Poll.
If Romney wins, next up is Romney vs. Huckabee.

McCain-Romney: It Makes Economic SenseApril 11th, 2008 | 8 Comments | Posted in 2008 Election, Governor Romney, John McCain, Mitt Romney, Running-Mate, Senator McCain, VP, Vice President, economy

![]()
In 1992, James Carville, then political strategist for Bill Clinton, crafted the phrase “It’s the Economy Stupid” to focus his candidate as he ran against incumbent president George H.W. Bush. Sixteen years later, in the wake of the mortgage crisis and signs of a recession, John McCain’s handlers would do well to heed the advice of Mr. Carville, but with a twist.
The two main themes of the upcoming general election will be the economy and Iraq. McCain, a staunch supporter of the war in Iraq, cannot retreat from his position in the Middle East regardless of what happens there before November. On the other hand, McCain can shore up his ticket on the economic front by selecting someone who has a solid financial footing: former rival Mitt Romney.
Yesterday my colleague, Andrea Murphy, discussed the potential Republican ticket of John McCain and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. Despite a recent poll suggesting that a McCain-Rice ticket could win New York in November (a feat no Republican has accomplished since Reagan-Bush in 1984), Mitt Romney is the right choice to join McCain on the ticket.
Beyond Condoleezza Rice’s status as a lightning rod for the failures of the Bush administration, the secretary of state does not address McCain’s largest weakness: his relative inexperience on financial issues.
Both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama, in addition to readers of Trailwatch, attacked Senator McCain’s first mortgage proposal, which the candidate submitted to Forbes. The criticism: this plan did not do enough to help homeowners hit by the mortgage crunch.
Yesterday, John McCain revised his policy, calling for more government intervention to aid “well-meaning homeowners” who cannot pay their mortgages. To his credit, McCain shows a willingness to modify his positions, but the new plan did not give details on who, exactly, would be eligible for government assistance, earning McCain a new round of criticism from Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
What could Mitt Romney contribute to the Republican ticket? Before serving as governor of Massachusetts, Romney was chief executive of Bain & Company and co-founder of spin-off private equity firm Bain Capital where, over his 14-year stint at the helm, the company enjoyed great success.
A March campaign stop in Utah may have laid the groundwork for a future alliance between the former adversaries. Romney has pledged to raise $15 million for McCain, and he stumped for McCain in Lancaster, Pennsylvania yesterday.
A McCain-Romney ticket makes sense for both men. McCain gets a boost on economic issues and Romney gets a seat next to McCain in the White House—assuming they manage a victory in November. The increased exposure would serve Romney well should he choose to seek the presidential nomination in the future. Considering John McCain’s age, Romney’s chance could come as soon as 2012 if a victorious McCain decided to only serve one term.

Jonathan Martin posted this on his blog at Politico.
The pro-Huck/anti-Mitt forces have crafted a petition to keep Romney off the ticket, so naturally the Mitt-heads have responded with their own petition — urging McCain to pick their guy.
And the 2012 jockeying goes on.
Visit the link if you would like to post a comment on his blog. Every bit of exposure helps.
