Calling All Romney Fans

July 15th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Mitt Romney, Support, This Site, Volunteering

Hi Again,

Thanks for all the comments on the new site redesign. Keep those comments going on the new look post. The reason I am posting this message is to ask for your help. At one point on this site we had pages that gave more info about Governor Romney, etc. Well, somehow they have disappeared. I would like to recreate more such pages. This is where you come in. I’d like to get pictures from you as well as text for these pages. The information will also be placed on the soon to be created Romney informational site located at http://www.mittromney.ws. So, if you’d be willing to help me out here I will be so thankful.

Email me at pr@electromneyin2008.com if your interested in helping out on this project.

Thank You,

Ann Marie

Cinderella Man

January 31st, 2008 | 3 Comments | Posted in 2009, Mitt Romney, Mitt Romney, Video, Videos, Volunteering

The MSM wants us to think that it’s over and that McCandidate is inevitable. They are wrong.

I went phone banking this evening. Out of the 12 people I actually got on the phone, 7 supported or were leaning toward Mitt, 4 liked McCain, and 1 was undecided. I had a great conversation with one gentleman and I think that my call gave him some new information that helped him lean Mitt.

This isn’t over no matter what the MSM wants us to believe. No matter how badly they want McCandidate to be our nominee.

It reminds me of Cinderella Man. They thought he was finished as well…until he won the heavy weight championship title.

Roll up your sleeves. Believe. We can do this.

Challenge to Action for All South Carolina (But written for my dad)

Dear Dad,

Mitt Romney has been doing pretty well in the primaries and caucauses held so far. He came in second in the much publicized Iowa and New Hampshire races. He also came in first in the forgotten Wyoming race. Right now Romney leads Republican contenders in the popular vote and in the number of comitted delegates.

In spite of the obvious trappings of success, opponents are doing their best to squelch any good news and predict that Romney’s campaign is already doomed. You have probably heard plenty about this over the past couple of weeks.

The fact that the MSM and even some in the alternate media are willing to throw Romney out of his bus, while building up Huckabee and McCain, means that Romney and his supporters must roll up their sleeves and work even harder to spread his vision for America. This requires time, money and conviction. The good news is that with a lot of conviction, a little time and money can go a long way.

Doing well in South Carolina would give a good lift to Romney’s campaign. It is conventional wisdom that Romney cannot expect to win the state. I don’t know if he can or not. What I do know is that South Carolinans are more inclined to listen and consider the claims of their friends and neighbors than to the promises of an outsider. In particular, an outsider politician.

To that end, I would like to challenge you to Join Team Mitt. To do this, go to www.mittromney.com At the right of the screen is a box titled Team Mitt. Click on any of the links there and select the link Join Today. From there, fill in your personal information and select the coalitions that are of most interest to you. I joined the “Faith and Values” and “Women’s” coalitions, along with “Tax Cutters” I think. Then you can also check the ways that you would be willing to help. There is a variety of ways that you can help and you can choose those that you are most comfortable with. The list is as follows:

Make phone calls
Help with events
Go door-to-door
Serve as a local volunteer leader
Send postcards or emails to friends
Host a Team Mitt event
Help raise money
All of the Above

Checking any of these boxes is not a firm comittment on your part. It simply means that you will be advised, by e-mail, when there is an opportunity for you to help the campaign in the ways that interest you.

Once you have joined Team Mitt, the first thing you can do to help is to invite others to join. Call or e-mail friends and family and encourage them to join. They will recieve weekly e-mails giving a status of the campaign along with other official annoucnements from the campaign. This insider’s view can be helpful when discussing the race with people who may be undecided. Some people may not even be aware that the South Carolina Primary is coming up so quickly. When I was there at Christmas, Mirm was not aware that the election was being held on January 19. She thought it was in February or March sometime.

Also, on this site you can look up press releases, access blogs and other information about Romney’s candidacy, and buy merchandise. You can get Mom her very own yard sign, just like she always wanted. You can also contribute money to the campaign if you want.

At this point, just showing that you care enough about this candidate to take some action, no matter how small, can contribute to the effectiveness of Romney’s campaign. So just to recap, my challenge for you is to:

1) Join Team Mitt
2) Invite other friends and family, especially those in South Carolina to also Join Team Mitt
3) Act on opportunities to help when you are comfortable doing so

I first learned to support Mitt Romney from you and Mom. Now, I ask you to reach outside the family circle and teach your neighbors the value of supporting Romney, as well.

Love,
Rebecca

P.S. I just noticed that I selected “homeschooling” as a catergory but I didn’t mention it in my letter. Well, since the girls are being home-schooled, it could be very educational for them to participate in some of the campaign events. Even though they aren’t old enough to vote, they are old enough to be convincing if armed with facts and information. Just a thought.

Love,
Rebecca

Welcoming myself–live from Urbandale!

Welcome to me, the latest addition to the ElectRomneyIn2008.com blogger staff. My name is Paul Johnson and this is my first posting. I have some good tidbits for you live from Urbandale, IA, one of Mitt Romney’s volunteer campaign sites.

First a bit about me: I’m a corporate lawyer by trade, trained at BYU both undergrad (dual major in English and Business) and grad school (JD/MBA). I started my career in the internet boom in Palo Alto, CA in ‘96, transferred with my then-current firm to San Diego in ‘99, and have stayed in San Diego since. I specialize in corporate financings and in mergers and acquisitions.

My intro to Mitt Romney was, like many, through hearing about the debacle that was unfolding at the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics. As someone who spent a lot of time in Utah, I didn’t want the state or our country to be embarrassed by the event. I heard someone named Mitt Romney, a very successful business person with Bain, was being put in charge, and not long after was hearing things were turning around. Of course September 11 intervened and the Olympics staff had to respond to an entirely unforeseen security threat in just a few months’ time. I myself was going to be attending the event with my 3 sons, so security was a concern for me. When I arrived, security was tight and the event unbelievably well-organized.

Next I heard about the Miracle in Massachusetts, how the same Mitt Romney, a republican, had somehow been elected to be governor of a deep blue state. Another good impression. I knew this person must have cross-party appeal. More good news followed as Mitt was able to balance MA’s budget, then actually adopt a healthcare plan tailored for the state. Then I hear about the MA Supreme Court’s decision (described here by CNN). CNN said at the time: “Massachusetts’ governor immediately denounced Tuesday’s decision and said he would work for a constitutional amendment to overturn it,” and I was glad to know we had a resourceful man of integrity at the forefront of this issue.

More good impressions followed. A few years ago Matt Romney, Mitt’s son, moved into my neighborhood (see Matt’s musings at the Five Brothers Blog). Matt and I ended up on some volunteer assignments together. I’d told Matt I was a baseball fan, so he invited me at one point to a game with him, his brother, Tagg and a few other friends. I came to find out as well that another friend, Jim Davies, was Ann Romney’s brother. When it began to be rumored Mitt might run for president, I told Matt if his dad ran, I’d be interested in pitching in. Soon I was attending events in San Diego and contributing to the campaign, a first for me. A couple weeks ago I began responding to some bitter and biased posts about Mitt, his family and his religion, some things I knew a little about first-hand, by some readers of The Politico (a site I otherwise enjoy) and other political websites. Now I find myself in Urbandale doing my first blog post!

I’ll get to where I agree with Mitt on policy issues in future posts, but for now here are some snapshots from one of the command centers.

A visit from Ann Romney

The troops got encouragement from Ann Romney just before lunch. She met with volunteers and gave her pitch for her husband as a man capable of addressing our country’s complex issues.

Here’s the view from the cheap seats!

Visits from the Press

Yesterday we had a visit from CNN. Today the folks from Salt Lake’s KSL TV and Salt Lake’s CBS affiliate were here, as was RAI from Italy. Jim Davies gave an interview in fluent Italian. It’s been great to be at ground zero at such an influential time in American politics. Channel 24 from Argentina is just going through now. Wish you were here, where we hope to be a part of electing the next president of the U.S. More to come…

Postcards from Iowa

January 2nd, 2008 | 9 Comments | Posted in 2008, Iowa, Mitt Romney, Volunteering

After 15 hours on the road on New Years Eve, my brothers and I arrived in Des Moines just in time for the New Year. We are here to volunteer for the campaign the next 3 days, and then make the same long trip back home. We actually arrived one hour early since both me and my brother Luke moved the clock in my van forward one hour (time zone change) without the other one knowing. We didn’t figure out what happened until this afternoon.

Being in Iowa for the days leading up to the caucuses has been quite exciting. The political buzz here is seen virtually everywhere. It’s quite a culture shock. Political ads completely dominate the local TV. I actually saw a Mitt Romney ad on TV for the first time. They don’t run in my home state and I don’t have cable.

I’d like to introduce you to 3 of my younger brothers who have come with me here to Iowa. They are long-time Romney supporters and have been very helpful to me in many respects in pro-Romney activities. Luke, 26, is proud new father of cute little leprechaun. Aaron, 22, is a college student who eats, drinks and sleeps Mitt Romney and Led Zeppelin. Zach, 18 (the baby of the family), is skipping his high-school classes to be here. I assured my mom that we’d take good care of him and that he would learn much more here than he would at school. We are all extremely excited to be here to help assure Romney’s victory.

This morning (Jan. 1) we reported to the campaign HQ at about 10 AM. There was not much that we could do that early on New Years Day since folks were still recuperating from the late night festivities. So we got acquainted with the headquarters and painted some campaign signs until we could go out to do some contacting.

It is bitter cold in Iowa right now. We spent about 3.5 hours outside going to door to door and my appendages nearly froze off. It may have actually been good since people were quite sympathetic and my brothers noted that they generally admired our determination. Exciting as it was I am already concerned about doing it again tomorrow.

When we returned to HQ it was buzzing so much more than when we had left. Many more volunteers had piled in - so much that they had set-up three times as many tables with people finding nice places on the floor to work, there were no more cell phones available to make calls, and the calling sheets had temporarily dried up. It was quite an outpouring of volunteerism. At one time I estimated about 200 people in the building, and that didn’t include those who were out going door to door, or those who hadn’t arrived yet. After 1/2 hour we got set-up to make calls and found a nice floor space in the conference room to work.

While here I met fellow blogger John Cronin (picture of us below) for the first time. He has come up from Missouri as have a number of people. It was to nice finally have a face to face with someone I feel somewhat familiar with. I also met again with Vic, who took several of the pictures below on his camera, and met shortly with Jason Bonham of MyManMitt.com and Race 4 2008.

I have recorded some video that I will try to post if I can find a firewire cable compatible with my laptop. For now here are the postcards I promised:

Now Is The Time For All Good People To Come To The Aid Of Their Country

December 14th, 2007 | 4 Comments | Posted in Iowa, Volunteering

This (somewhat) famous quote of unknown origin, provides the backdrop for my post this morning to call everyone to action. Now is indeed the time.

As everyone knew it would, the race has tightened in some unexpected ways, and we are in an extremely crucial phase between now and the holidays. Things are starting to break in Romney’s direction, but with the current reality in Iowa particularly, will need every last human resource that the campaign has at its disposal to solidify a win there. Romney can, of course, still win without Iowa, but I am convinced now, more than ever, that with Florida in play, a victory in Iowa will propel Romney, without question or serious challenge, all the way to the nomination.

And why is now the time? Well, in case you hadn’t consulted ye olde almanac lately, there are 11 days until Christmas, and with the accelerated primary schedule, the Iowa Caucuses will come right on the tail end of the holiday. This means that with the long pause in the public discourse that the holiday will entail, we really only have a little more than a week to turn this corner before people in Iowa become preoccupied with their holiday festivities. Also, given the fact is that the vetting of Huckabee’s record is in full swing, the Iowa electorate is open to influence like never before. But I believe that this opening is only going to remain during the window of time between now and Christmas.

So, here is the call to action: For those of you on the Campaign’s mailing lists, you will probably have already received several email solicitations giving you the opportunity to volunteer for the campaign in meaningful ways, even from your local HQ or from home. PLEASE FOLLOW THROUGH AND VOLUNTEER and also leave a comment on this post and commit yourself publicly to taking action. Studies have shown, that those who make a public commitment to do something are more likely to follow through.

For those who are not on the email list, send me an email at rrichey@ishway.com with a subject of “Romney Request” and tell me what state you are in, and I will send the appropriate email back to you. I’m doing it this way to force you to take action, to show some commitment to this great cause, namely getting the most qualified mad into the White House at this exceedingly crucial juncture in our nation’s history. Now is the time to come to the aide of YOUR country, my friends! It always has been about the ground game in Iowa. Governor Romney has an effective one. Huckabee does not. This is our opportunity to become part of that ground game and make a difference.
