Introducing Myself as ComMITTed to Romney’s Newest Blogger

Hello everyone!

My name is Ron Richey, and I would like to introduce myself as the newest blogger here at ComMITTed to Romney. I’ve had a lifetime interest in politics, but until now, I’ve just been lurking on the sidelines. However, when I received a kind invitation from Ann Marie Curling and Vic Lundquist to become a regular contributor here, I decided to go ahead and try to make a difference.

I am looking forward to the opportunity to promote the candidacy of Governor Mitt Romney–whom I believe to be the most capable individual to offer himself up for public service in a generation. Early on, I recognized him as one who would someday make a run for the presidency. He first caught my attention when he ran against Ted Kennedy for the Senate and then again when he ran the Olympics here in Utah. Governor Romney stands out as someone who displays a rare combination of goodness, competency, and energy.

As a brief introduction, I am a forty-something entrepreneur and businessman living in Mapleton, Utah. My wife and I have five kids ranging from college age down to first grade. In my spare time (like there really is any!) I love to work in my orchard and vegetable garden and stay in touch with current events. But I always find time to jog three times a week because I find that it energizes me like nothing else can (except perhaps politics).

I currently run a startup Internet software company, and as such, I recognize the value of making the economy strong and vibrant for business. Governor Romney’s “innovation and transformation” kickoff speech resonated with me, because I am an electrical engineer by training, and nothing drives me more nuts than seeing things which are not working well. I like to see things get “fixed” and so I am passionate about helping Governor Romney “fix” Washington. I also have an MBA, and so I like to see rigorous analysis of problems and am a fan of GMR’s general approach to problem solving.

I also have an exceptionally strong desire to see a morally-principled leader in the White House. I really resonate with the perspective communicated in messages like GMR’s “Ocean” advertisement where he decries the moral cesspool that our children and grandchildren have to swim in every day. I see pop-culture slouching to its lowest levels ever. I see the growing threat of secular humanism to the cultural and religious norms that have made us the strongest nation on earth for two and a third centuries. Nevertheless, I take comfort in the fact that there is a presidential candidate in Governor Romney who understands what needs to done and has the human capacity to make it happen.

Perhaps most importantly, I see Governor Romney as a leader who has what it takes to guide our country through a very critical time. What we need, what the entire free world desperately needs, is a wise, thoughtful, and competent leader who not only talks the talk of fiscal and social conservatism, but walks the walk. We don’t need a career politician. We don’t need an actor. We don’t need a former first lady. We don’t need America’s mayor. We don’t need a trial lawyer. We don’t need a pop culture icon.

We need the man who has demonstrated, time and time again, competence, leadership, and decisiveness in the face of overwhelming obstacles. We need the man who has cut government waste. We need the man who has been a successful business executive. We need the man who turned around the Olympics. We need the man who has solved thorny problems like health care. We need the man who does not back down to international thugs. We need the man who has been faithful to his wife and family. We need the man who has protected the unborn. We need the man who has fought for traditional families.

We need Governor Mitt Romney.

Our VERY OWN Andru Blonquist featured in the Deseret News

May 17th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Site News

In the article titled GOP debate may hit on Romney’s religion our very own Andru Blonquist is featured.

“It’s a very appropriate question for South Carolina,” said Andru Blonquist, a builder in Greenville, S.C., who attended BYU and serves as administrator for a pro-Romney blog, “South Carolinians for Romney,” http://www.scforromney.com.

Blonquist said in a telephone interview that when South Carolinians first encounter his faith, “there’s a lot of ignorance, there’s a lot of misunderstanding. It’s easy to picture a Mormon … but it’s a completely different thing to meet them and interact with them and realize they’re normal people.”

Blonquist said that’s key for Romney, who has limited name recognition but holds appeal as the more conservative of the top-tier candidates, a list that also includes former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Arizona Sen. John McCain.

“Their first sense is, it’s sort of plug your nose and vote for the Mormon. But then as people start getting to know him, they think he’s a good guy,” Blonquist said. “I think a win in South Carolina would definitively silence the religion issue.”

Way to go Andru, click the link to read the entire article.

15 Days of Contributions

March 19th, 2007 | 4 Comments | Posted in 2008, Request for Help, Site News, This Site

12 Days of Contributions Left!

I got a letter from Mitt:

We’re making great progress and our message is really taking hold! We must build upon this early momentum and continue reaching out to people with our positive vision. Please continue to show your support for my conservative leadership by sending a generous contribution before the March 31st campaign finance report is due.

-Mitt Romney

Today is 12 days before the March 31st deadline for the FEC campaign finance report. Mitt went on to say, “This report will serve as a clear indication of our team’s strength and unity and will be a significant factor in determining who will secure the Republican nomination and then face-off with the Democrat in the general election.”

So if you have contributed or are considering contributing to a great effort, try and double what you would consider contributing (within your budget) and go to this link: https://www.mittromney.com/contribution/form. Today you can make a difference to the FEC report that will be news about Mitt in April!

After careful consideration, I quadrupled what I was planning on contributing. Come join the fun and affect the history of our great nation today!

Contribute Page Fixed

January 12th, 2007 | 4 Comments | Posted in Site News

Thanks to the person who let me know of the contribute page not working. I have fixed the errors and it’s now working again! Which reminds me, follow the instructions below to contribute :)

Ann Marie

—–
Contribute NOW! - Time is of the essence, and I urgently ask you to donate to Mitt Romney’s Exploratory Committee for President 2008. It is very important in terms of the future of this country that we raise the needed funds for this campaign to get off to a good start. President Bush raised over $100 million in his campaign run in 2004, and this cycle will likely need much more than that. Contributions of even $10 can make a difference in this critical phase of the campaign cycle. Let’s get rolling and show Governor Romney what we’re made of!

Guidelines for contributing:

Individuals can give up to $2100, and couples can give up to $4200 per year.

Ways to contribute:

1. Visit this URL: Contribute, and fill in your information and donate by credit card. Please use fundraiser ID: 250001, and my name Ann Marie Curling.

2. Write a check with your donation amount (please write Ann Marie Curling - 250001 in the MEMO field). Print the form located at Contribution Form PDF, and fill in all the necessary information. Then mail your form and check to the following address: Romney for President Exploratory Committee, Inc., P.O. Box 55899, Boston, MA 02205-5899.

Blog Improvements In The Works

January 6th, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in 2008, Site News

Over the last 20 months this site has grown to become one of the top blogs on the Internet. Although we certainly welcome each and every visitor that comes to our site it’s unfortunate that our popularity extends to spammers.

Ann Marie has been asking me for the past few months to try to work out some solutions for spam. What she failed to communicate to me, or more likely I failed to hear, was how bad the spam situation had gotten.

Last night at Ann’s request I took a look at this blogs database and found that around 28,000 comments had been posted to the site. Using a variety of keywords and phrases I was able to identify inappropriate comments for deletion. After many many hours I was able to weed the comments down by about 90%. In addition I manually went through the comments on every post prior to December 1, 2006 just to verify that I didn’t miss any.

Although highly unlikely I feel compelled to confess that of the 26000 messages I deleted there is a chance that a few of them could have been valid. It was late, or early, at this point that is a blur. But in my blur I accidentally hit delete on a few keywords without actually verifying that they were all spam. Only 200 total records were deleted in this careless fashion, of those 200 I’m pretty sure most if not all were spam.
However I felt bad that I can’t say I wasn’t 100% sure there were no accidents.

Now cleaning is one thing, preventing is another. So starting now we will be implementing the following procedures to help eliminate or reduce spam.

1) All post over 30 days will be closed from further comments. In many cases the spammers have been hitting old messages which no one is actively reading. This has helped allow these comments to go completely unchecked.
Closing old post from comments will help assure this doesn’t happen. But to be absolutely sure I will make sure that I manually check these post after they are closed.
(Note: I have manually closed all post prior to 12/6/2006. Until I have a chance to write an automated script this process will be a manual one therefore I might be a day or two late closing them on time.)

2) I have previously developed a script which scans messages upon entry and compares them against a filter list. Any message with the identified phrase gets kicked. I will install this script to the site in the next few days.

3) I have implemented a new button on the bottom right hand side of all comments. This link can be used to report any spam or otherwise inappropriate comments to me. Upon flagging a message I will be sent an email to manually check the comments. Also by manually checking the comments it will help me better identify phrases and words to add to the above mentioned filter list.

Finally I want to apologize to everyone for not only the quantity but just the sheer grotesque nature of some of the comments I found. I can’t tell you how bad I feel that such messages were allowed to remain on this site for so long.

However with revelation comes an opportunity to do better. Further as the election fever is starting to get red hot so will this sites Hotness (and my servers temperature) climb.

Therefore this post is also a chance to announce that I will be now be taking a more active role in the health of this site. I have already identified a few issues that need fixing and I or members of my team will jump on them as soon as possible.

I also plan in the near future to develop some type of process for reporting site bugs, comments, or suggestions for improvement.

Now this is where I want to ask for your help. For now I’d like to use the comments to this post as a way to identify the issues that need to be added to the top of my to do list. Please report any site bugs you have found so I can work on getting them fixed. If you do have any other feedback I gladly welcome it as well.

Ann Marie asked me to place a title under my name so everyone would know who I am. I guess in case my long winded email wasn’t clear. But I am really not a “title” type of person. To give you a quick background on me for future reference I am Ann Marie’s husband and owner of BlodgetTech. We have been in business for almost 4 years now and provide hosting, webmaster, and software development services to small to medium size companies.

Well so Ann Marie gets a proper signature here goes…

Site Maintenance Today

January 5th, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in Site News

If you notice anything a bit “off” with the site during times today it’s because maintenance is being done on it. I’m having some upgrades done, and a couple of cosmetic changes, as well as some optimization. So, just be patient if you see anything unusual.

Thanks,

Ann Marie

Usablity of the site…

July 25th, 2006 | 4 Comments | Posted in Site News

Hello,

I hope your week is going well. Mine isn’t going too bad. I am writing all of you this message to ask for your opinion on the usability of this site. As you can tell, I changed the header image to include the two images from the side bar to give me some extra side bar space. Do you like this change? Or did you like it the way it was before? Do you like the links in the sidebar? Or do you like them just on the separate links page itself? Are there any other things that you’d like to see done to make the site easier to navigate? I value your opinion highly, so please do not pull any punches. I want to know how you feel.

Please let the messages pour into my mailbox at PR @ Electromneyin2008 . com .

Thanks a lot for your input in advance, and make it a great rest of the week!

Most Sincerely,

Ann Marie Curling
Founder - Elect Romney in 2008
P.S. If you’d like too use the comments section to add your opinion as well, feel free to do that as well!

Lookie here, our very own Dave Burris was interviewed by Extreme Mortman (Howard Mortman) who was formerly the producer of ‘Hardball’ and the former editor of the National Journal’s ‘The Hotline,’ and is a legend among political junkies.

It’s an awesome interview. Kuddos to Dave for mentioning this blog. Give it a read!

Another New Face

July 16th, 2006 | 1 Comment | Posted in Site News

Thomas Alan here joining the scene and it’s super bueno to have this opportunity to work with the Ann Marie and Jeff who have been doing such a wonderful job.

My background in Gov. Romney includes the founding of the blog Romney08 four months ago and its sister blog Floridians for Romney just last month. As a conservative voter my main concerns are reigning in the judiciary and controlling spending. Two issues that, not coincidentally Gov. Romney has earned high marks.

I look forward to sharing ideas with all my new co-bloggers, talking to all our none-shy patrons in the comments threads, and doing my small part to make sure that the president it needs and deserves in 2009.
