Before You Vote For McCain on Super Tuesday…

Before you pull the lever for John McCain on Super Tuesday, please consider the following information first. As a Mitt Romney supporter, I would prefer to convince people why they should vote for my candidate, rather than against John McCain. However, I’ve tried this approach for the past 18 months, but people haven’t been able to get past his religion or the false impression that he’s a flip-flopper. As governor, Romney never contradicted a position he campaigned for in 2002 and while he did change his stance on abortion, he upheld his campaign promises throughout the end of his term. You can trust that the stances he is taking for America (which are decidedly different than the needs of Massachusetts in 2002), will be consistently adhered to while he is in office.

McCain on the other hand consistently changes positions, or blatantly lies about his record and the records of others. As accounts continue to surface about his private dealings with fellow legislators, staffers, and other private individuals, it is abundantly clear that John McCain is concerned about the one thing he’s always been concerned about—himself.

Perhaps you’ve resigned yourself to the “electability” argument, and believe that John McCain is the only Republican who could win in November. McCain will be the first one to tell you not to trust polls that come out 6 months before an election (just look at last July’s polling data for McCain). Additionally, you give the Democrats too much credit. As the economy and budget woes worsen, neither Hillary Clinton nor Barak Obama has any credibility to solve this impending crisis. On this issue alone, John McCain would be much easier to beat than Romney since he can’t run effectively on the economy. If we nominate John McCain, it will be like nominating Bob Dole all over again (and he was supposed to be the most electable at the time).

For all you know, everything I have just said could simply be made up charges for political reasons. So I ask you to take a look at the whole picture of John McCain’s life and his accelerated advancement through the naval ranks—in spite of his poor record and actions unbecoming of a Naval officer. As you read the following story of McCain’s Naval record, compare this with Mitt Romney and answer the following questions:

· Both had influential fathers, what did this give them in life?
· Both were accepted to prestigious universities, what did they do with that opportunity?
· Both had careers that ended in high-profile positions. How did they get there?
· How do their personal and family lives compare?
· What kind of people do they associate themselves with?
· What have these two candidate shown that they are good at?

Romney Gets Some Love from Wisconsin

August 27th, 2007 | No Comments | Posted in Endorsements, Wisconsin

Another endorsement today, this time from the land of the cheese and beer.

WASHINGTON - Rep. Thomas Petri became the first Wisconsin congressman Monday to endorse former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney’s run for the Republican presidential nomination on Monday.

“On so many issues, we need to move beyond talk to action. In Governor Romney, we have a leader who has been tested and proven with a record of solving some of our most pressing problems by demonstrating creative, conservative leadership,” Petri, R-Fond du Lac, said.

Petri is the first Wisconsin Republican elected official at the state or federal level to back Romney, campaign spokeswoman Sarah Pompei said.

Wonder how the rest of that state’s delegation will go now that favorite son Tommy Thompson is no longer in the race.

A view from the other side: Romney is a “Bush Lieutenant”

October 15th, 2006 | 1 Comment | Posted in 2008, Education, Wisconsin

Wisconsin politics looks like it is getting slimy. The Wisconisn Democratic Party recently sent out this press release aiming to “kill two birds with one stone” (Degrade the current GOP candidate for Governor–Mark Green and lay some groundwork against Romney’s 2008 presidential bid). They list 5 areas where Romney and Green have similar records of bad governance.

ON EDUCATION
Under Romneys Governorship, between 2002 and 2004, Massachusetts had the largest reduction in K-12 spending in the nation.

They forgot to mention that in late 2005 (after these “horrible cuts” occured) that Massachusetts “blew away” the rest of the nation on the NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress) exam, marking the only time in history that one state had the top performance in all 4 categories (4th grade Reading & Math and 8th grade Reading & Math). Sounds like vintage Romney . . . do more with less!

ON HIGHER EDUCATION
Romney has cut funding for higher education in Massachusetts by $12 million.

Mostly these cuts were for duplicative administrative positions and the “patronage” problem that Romney has been trying to fix in Massachusetts.

ON TAX BREAKS FOR THE RICH
Romney cut almost $3 billion from public schools, health care, and other public services to finance tax breaks that disproportionately benefited the wealthy.

This one is completely unfounded. Romney has tried to cut taxes in MA but the money-hunger MA legislature froze the voter initiative to bring the income tax rate to a lower level. The only truth to that comment is that he did gut the budget upon taking office in 2003 and turned a $3 billion deficit into a nearly $1 billion surplus.

ON FISCAL MISMANAGEMENT
Romney has increased government spending every year hes been in office, increasing spending by 19 percent over his four years in office.

Oh, they conveniently left out that essentially all of his vetoes to cut spending each year are over-ridden by the Democrats in the legislature. Also, he balanced the Mass Budget and has consitantly called for spending restraint . . . but it falls on the deaf ears of the spend-happy legislature.

This accusation also flies in the face of their first three complaints . . . that he cut spending to all of these institutions.

Accusing Romney of “fiscal mismanagement”??? Now that’s a good one!

ON A WOMANS RIGHT TO CHOOSE
Romney has vetoed legislation to require doctors to offer emergency contraception to rape victims and has vetoed a bill to expand access to emergency contraceptives.

Good for him!

I just think it’s funny to read this stuff that the Dems put out. Some of it is just music to my ears.

In other Wisconsin politics news, it looks like former Wisc Governor Tommy Thompson is strongly weighing a bid for POTUS in 2008. He could be a player in the Iowa Caucus, but I don’t see his candidacy “catching on” elsewhere.
