Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, mentioned as a possible vice presidential running mate for John McCain, said yesterday in Innsbrook that he is not seeking the job.

But Romney declined to say whether he would turn down the post if it is offered to him.
“Most people consider the vice president request to be a great honor for their party,” Romney said, adding he would leave speculation about his chances to others.

Before You Vote For McCain on Super Tuesday…

Before you pull the lever for John McCain on Super Tuesday, please consider the following information first. As a Mitt Romney supporter, I would prefer to convince people why they should vote for my candidate, rather than against John McCain. However, I’ve tried this approach for the past 18 months, but people haven’t been able to get past his religion or the false impression that he’s a flip-flopper. As governor, Romney never contradicted a position he campaigned for in 2002 and while he did change his stance on abortion, he upheld his campaign promises throughout the end of his term. You can trust that the stances he is taking for America (which are decidedly different than the needs of Massachusetts in 2002), will be consistently adhered to while he is in office.

McCain on the other hand consistently changes positions, or blatantly lies about his record and the records of others. As accounts continue to surface about his private dealings with fellow legislators, staffers, and other private individuals, it is abundantly clear that John McCain is concerned about the one thing he’s always been concerned about—himself.

Perhaps you’ve resigned yourself to the “electability” argument, and believe that John McCain is the only Republican who could win in November. McCain will be the first one to tell you not to trust polls that come out 6 months before an election (just look at last July’s polling data for McCain). Additionally, you give the Democrats too much credit. As the economy and budget woes worsen, neither Hillary Clinton nor Barak Obama has any credibility to solve this impending crisis. On this issue alone, John McCain would be much easier to beat than Romney since he can’t run effectively on the economy. If we nominate John McCain, it will be like nominating Bob Dole all over again (and he was supposed to be the most electable at the time).

For all you know, everything I have just said could simply be made up charges for political reasons. So I ask you to take a look at the whole picture of John McCain’s life and his accelerated advancement through the naval ranks—in spite of his poor record and actions unbecoming of a Naval officer. As you read the following story of McCain’s Naval record, compare this with Mitt Romney and answer the following questions:

· Both had influential fathers, what did this give them in life?
· Both were accepted to prestigious universities, what did they do with that opportunity?
· Both had careers that ended in high-profile positions. How did they get there?
· How do their personal and family lives compare?
· What kind of people do they associate themselves with?
· What have these two candidate shown that they are good at?

Great News from Virginia

Hat Tip to Lisarc and Matthew Clark

The good news just keep streaming in from Virginia!

~~John Cronin~~

Great news from here in Virginia . I just got a campaign update email from Randy Marcus the state Direct for Romney with the following line:

“Additionally, since Senator Thompson withdrew on Tuesday, I have personally received hundreds emails from people who have enlisted to join the Virginia Team Romney.” [Editor's note: emphasis mine]

This is great news for Romney showing that he is picking up real support among the Fred Heads. Maybe we can get to some Fred Head bloggers.

God Bless,

Matthew Clark

Need Virginia Update

Hey, all Virginia Mittheads! How is the Virginia campaign faring? I remember posting the results of your petition drive some months ago. You collected over 15,000 signatures and wasn’t that on a single day?

I see that Virginia has 63 delegates. What a nice figure that would be to add to Mitt’s delegate count! Is your primary open or closed and what candidates are working the state?

Let us know what your state’s volunteers are doing and the results of any local polling being done.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Huck-a-”buyin” Signatures in Virginia…while Romney’s done filed.

This comes from the —–> always esteemed Mitt Report…

Mike Huckabee has always been the most vocal about Romney ‘buying’ his support. At Ames, he accused Romney of buying his support, at CPAC, the same thing. Now apparently Huckabee has taken up the practice of buying support himself and he is now trying to hide it.

On Monday the website Too Conservitive had a post by a Vincent Harris, who is officially “coordinating Governor Huckabee’s petition drive in NOVA,” promising to pay those who would work for Huckabee to obtain signatures 50 cents per signature. Just hours later however as the word spread, the language promising to pay money for the signatures was deleted. Luckily, Mitt Report saved a copy of the orginial text. The language earlier in the day looked like this:

“I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.
I am in the state for a couple weeks coordinating Governor Huckabee’s petition drive in NOVA. If anyone wants to help (50 cents a signature!) please shoot me an e-mail to vincent.harris@explorehuckabee.com”

The language now looks like this:

“I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.

I am in the state for a couple weeks coordinating Governor Huckabee’s petition drive in NOVA. If anyone wants to help please shoot me an e-mail to vincent dot harris @explorehuckabee.com”

It appears that Huckabee is buying his signatures and now is trying to cover it up.

Click —–>on over here, as Paul Harvey says for “The Rest of the Story”.

Now onto our guy…

Romney’s already completed the filing process in Virginia per —–>This Romney for President Press Release

Romney Running Strong In Virginia

This report is from an email I received from Justin Hart of MyManMitt fame and fortune. Justin writes about the very strong organization that Mitt Romney has fielded in Virginia and the impressive results they have achieved in getting MR on the Virginia ballot.

Here’s what Justin had to say.

“The first “primary” in Virginia just took place today! And Romney won.

At 1:30 today, Mitt Romney filed 15,000 signatures to meet the
requirements for Virginia presidential primaries.

Every campaign in the race will tell you that Virginia has the most
difficult process to get on the ballot. You have to submit 10,000
signatures with at least 400 signatures from each 11 congress-
ional districts.

Each county or city entity has to have its own petition
page for signatures and you need the voter address and in some cases the last four digits of the social security number for it to be valid.

People who collect signatures have to be registered voters in Virginia. (in other words you can’t farm this out to high schoolers)

The VA ballot submissions opened up yesterday and as far as we know Romney is the first candidate to file.

Other candidates like Huckabee are actually paying 50 cents per
signature. Thompson and Edwards are just getting started.

It will be interesting to see on December 14th who the actual
candidates will be on the ballot.

As background, there are only a handful of paid staffers for Romney in Virginia, but dozens of volunteers chipped in during the elections in November to help get the signatures required. Whole Saturdays were dedicated to rounding up the needed sigs. Unlike other campaigns Romney did this with a grassroots flare and did not outsource it.

Kudos to Team Romney, Lt. Gov. Bolling, and the VA team for making this happen.

This is one more example of why Romney is the best candidate to face the formidable forces of the DEMS in the general election.

Romney Makes Strong Opening Move In Virginia

Good news from my friends over at The Virginian Federalist.

Tue Jul 31
Romney Makes Strong Opening Move in Virginia

“Governor Mitt Romney is already leading in Iowa and New Hampshire, and he is starting out strong in Virginia. With his first significant campaign move in the Commonwealth, Romney garnered the support of Lieutenant Governor Bill Bolling, who will be chairing Romney’s statewide campaign. The support and influence of a popular, conservative, statewide elected official is likely to produce strong results for Romney. The former Massachusetts governor may not be leading in nationwide polls, but he has been focusing intently on the early states with great success. Romney is already appearing likely to repeat that kind of performance as he turns his sights on Virginia.”

The campaign is picking up speed and endorsements.

The site is divided into roughly three columns. The poll is in the middle column; scroll down 1-2 screen lengths to find the poll.
