Missouri officials suspect fake voter registration

If anyone is in a position to help your local Republican organization with their voter fraud prevention efforts, please contact them first thing Monday morning to volunteer your time and get trained to become a Poll Watcher. Their are reports coming in from at least 12 states concerning fraudulent voter registrations. We may well lose this election, but if we do, let’s not let it happen because we stood by and let it be stolen from us.

By BILL DRAPER, Associated Press Writer

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -

Officials in Missouri, a hard-fought jewel in the presidential race, are sifting through possibly hundreds of questionable or duplicate voter-registration forms submitted by an advocacy group that has been accused of election fraud in other states.

Charlene Davis, co-director of the election board in Jackson County, where Kansas City is, said the fraudulent registration forms came from the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN. She said they were bogging down work Wednesday, the final day Missourians could register to vote.

“I don’t even know the entire scope of it because registrations are coming in so heavy,” Davis said. “We have identified about 100 duplicates, and probably 280 addresses that don’t exist, people who have driver’s license numbers that won’t verify or Social Security numbers that won’t verify. Some have no address at all.”

The nonpartisan group works to recruit low-income voters, who tend to lean Democratic. Most polls show Republican presidential candidate John McCain with an edge in bellwether Missouri, but Democrat Barack Obama continues to put up a strong fight.

Jess Ordower, Midwest director of ACORN, said his group hasn’t done any registrations in Kansas City since late August. He said he was told three weeks ago by election officials that there were only about 135 questionable cards — 85 of them duplicates.

“They keep telling different people different things,” he said. “They gave us a list of 130, then told someone else it was 1,000.”

FBI spokeswoman Bridget Patton said the agency has been in contact with elections officials about potential voter fraud and plans to investigate.

“It’s a matter we take very seriously,” Patton said. “It is against the law to register someone to vote who does not fall within the parameters to vote, or to put someone on there falsely.”

On Tuesday, authorities in Nevada seized records from ACORN after finding fraudulent registration forms that included the starting lineup of the Dallas Cowboys.

In April, eight ACORN workers in St. Louis city and county pleaded guilty to federal election fraud for submitting false registration cards for the 2006 election. U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway said they submitted cards with false addresses and names, and forged signatures.

Ordower said Wednesday that ACORN registered about 53,500 people in Missouri this year. He believes his group is being targeted because some politicians don’t want that many low-income people having a voice.

“It’s par for the course,” he said. “When you’re doing more registrations than anyone else in the country, some don’t want low-income people being empowered to vote. There are pretty targeted attacks on us, but we’re proud to be out there doing the patriotic thing getting people registered to vote.”

Republicans are among ACORN’s loudest critics. At a campaign stop in Bethlehem, Pa., supporters of John McCain interrupted his remarks Wednesday by shouting, “No more ACORN.”

Debbie Mesloh, spokeswoman for the Obama campaign in Missouri, said in an e-mailed statement that the campaign supported any investigation of possible fraud.

According to its national Web site, the group has registered 1.3 million people nationwide for the Nov. 4 election. It also has encountered complaints of fraud stemming from registration efforts in Wisconsin, New Mexico, Nevada and battleground states like Michigan, Ohio and North Carolina, where new voter registrations have favored Democrats nearly 4 to 1 since the beginning of this year.
Missouri offers 11 electoral votes; the presidential candidates need at least 270 to win the election.

Russell Opens Campaign To Unseat Murtha

August 7th, 2008 | 1 Comment | Posted in Iraq, Pennsylvania, Republican Party, Republicans

It didn’t take William Russell long to jump into political action after getting back from military action in the Middle East. I just have to admire his courage. He just gets back to the states from dangerous military service to his country and as soon as he gets his duffel bags unpacked, he takes on one of the most powerful Democrats in the U.S. House, Jack Murtha, the King Of Pork.

William Russell is back on the campaign trail.

The 12th Congressional District Republican candidate, who is attempting to unseat longtime Democratic U.S. Rep. John Murtha, held his first Cambria County campaign event Wednesday.

It was a modest affair on a back porch in Upper Yoder Township. But Russell said he is gaining momentum.

“This campaign has heard from thousands of people over the past few weeks,” he said.

Russell, who spent his career in the military and served in both Iraq wars, nearly saw his campaign end in February when a judge ruled that he had not gathered enough valid petition signatures to appear on the primary ballot.

But with no other GOP candidates running, Russell garnered thousands of write-in votes to easily secure his party’s nomination.

Russell, who moved here from the Washington, D.C., area to challenge Murtha, finished 90 days of active military duty and began campaigning last week.

Military policy – and Iraq in particular – remains the centerpiece of his platform.

While Murtha has called for U.S. troops to be withdrawn from Iraq, Russell argues that such a move would appease America’s enemies.

More information is available on his Web site, www.russellbrigade.com.

Lt. Col. Russell to the Rescue: The Man Who Could Topple Jack Murtha

Michelle Malkin writes in NATIONAL REVIEW.COM about the quixotic quest by an active duty Army officer to unseat the (hopefully) disgraced King of Pork and the man who smeared the Marines involved in the attack in Haditha, Jack Murtha. If ever a craven politician deserved to be turned out of office, it is Murtha.

Please take the time to read Michelle’s article and if you live in Pennsylvania, check out Lt. Col. William Russell and his campaign to unseat the man who tried to convict the Marines in the press.

By Michelle Malkin

A jaw-dropping political miracle may be on the horizon. No, I’m not talking about the second coming of the Obamessiah. I’m talking about the long-deserved comeuppance of troop-smearing, pork-feasting, scandal-tainted Democratic Rep. Jack Murtha of Pennsylvania.

The 18-term congressman’s challenger, staunch conservative Republican newcomer William Russell, raised nearly $670,000 in the second fundraising quarter. Earmark king Murtha scraped together a measly $119,000. Russell’s underdog campaign bested Murtha without the perks of incumbency, national name recognition, big PAC donations or mainstream media support.

Even more amazing: The 45-year-old Russell, a Desert Storm veteran, former Army lieutenant colonel and Army reservist who survived the Sept. 11 terrorist attack on the Pentagon, was not even publicly campaigning during the quarter. He is on active duty with the Army until after Aug. 1 and is barred from actively campaigning until then.

If all that didn’t make this enough of an inspiring David and Goliath story: In February, a Pennsylvania judge ruled that Russell had failed to collect enough signatures to make the primary ballot. But Russell refused to give up on his goal of permanently redeploying Murtha from his entrenched seat of power in Washington. The GOP neophyte persevered on a shoestring budget and won more than 4,000 write-in votes in the spring to earn a spot on the general election ballot. According to Russell’s campaign manager and veteran GOP activist Peg Luksik, the bulk of contributions from about 16,000 donors in the second quarter were less than $50.

The Endorsements are Coming In

Three great endorsements today, one from Laura Ingraham, one from Rep. Lynn Westmoreland from Georgia, and one from former Pennsylvania Senator, Rick Santorum.  Sen. Santorum worked with McNasty in the Senate for 12 years:

To nobody’s surprise, Santorum’s for Romney

Posted by BRETT LIEBERMAN, Of The Patriot-News February 01, 2008 12:43PM

When his fiscal conservative credentials were under attack, then U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, R-Pa., rolled out U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., for campaign stops around the state.

McCain vouched for him at three events including the Army-Navy Game Gala.

“[L]et’s not underestimate what Rick represents in the United States Senate, said McCain. “He represents family values, he represents commitment to family and America, and he represents what — in my view — is the next generation of leadership in the Republican Party. So there’s a lot at stake in this election. We can and will win this election, and it’s important that we do so. It’s important that we send a signal to America that this is the kind commitment and leadership that deserves to remain in the United States Senate.”

But after the election, Santorum made no secret of his disdain for McCain in the Senate.

I served 12 years with him, six years in the Senate as one of the leaders of the Senate, trying to put together the conservative agenda, and almost at every turn, on domestic policy, John McCain was not only against us, but leading the charge on the other side,” Santorum said on Mark Levin’s syndicated radio show.

Like many conservatives, Santorum has been critical of the McCain-Feingold Act campaign finance reform legislation.

He goes further on Hugh Hewitt’s show, saying that McCain won’t win the GOP base and was on the wrong side of the immigration issue.

“John McCain was the guy who was working with Ted Kennedy to drive it down our throats, and lectured us repeatedly about how xenophobic we were, lectured us, us being the Republican conference, about how wrong we were on this, how we were on the wrong side of history,” Santorum said on the immigration debate.

Endorsing former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney for president today, Santorum said, “Conservatives can no longer afford to stand on the sidelines in this election, and Gov. Romney is the candidate who will stand up for the conservative principles that we hold dear.”
And today he told Laura Ingraham that Romney’s the only one who understands the “war here at home.
Not exactly a huge surprise for Santorum given his choices at this point in the campaign, but newsworthy nonetheless at a critical time for Romney before the “Super Tuesday primaries in 22 states.

Rudy and Corruption

Check out this blog post at —–> ABC News’ The Blotter titled Out of Spotlight, Giuliani Embraces Convicted Moneyman…

Background:

A Pennsylvania man convicted in a notorious corruption case played host to former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani at a fundraiser last night, despite the Giuliani campaign’s public efforts to distance itself from the man.

Bob Asher, a major Pennsylvania Republican player as a national party committeeman, was one of four hosts for the $2,300-a-person event. Asher was convicted in 1986 on charges stemming from a bribery scheme intended to win a $300,000 state government contract. The case gained national attention when his co-defendant in the case, Pennsylvania state treasurer R. Budd Dwyer, committed suicide at a televised news conference. Asher was sentenced to serve one year in prison.

At that time, Giuliani was a federal prosecutor in New York, building a reputation by locking up criminals for similar corruption-related misdeeds.

Emphasis Above Added

This part is particularly telling:

Giuliani came and went from last night’s fundraiser without comment, ducking down in his car as ABC News cameras attempted to photograph him arriving.

Mr. Giuliani, why are you so afraid of appearing with one of your top fundraisers?

Pro-Rudy/Anti-Mitt Polling Conspiracy?

OK, “conspiracy” is probably too strong. However, consider the following figures in early state polling courtesy of Real Clear Politics’ and Pollster.com’s 2008 Polling sites (other resources used: Electoral Votes from FEC website; Primary calendar from About.com):

Iowa–Jan 3rd (7 electoral votes) has been polled:

  • 9 times in the last 7 weeks.
  • 27 times in the last 6 months– 4.5X/mo
  • Romney leads RCP average by 14%

Wyoming–Jan 5th (3 electoral votes–only a fraction of state’s primary delegates up for grabs on this date though):

  • No polling that I could find
  • Conventional wisdom is that Romney will win here solidly (he just got 61% of vote in a straw poll last weekend)

New Hampshire–Jan 8th (4 electoral votes) has been polled:

  • 10 times in the last 7 weeks.
  • 27 times in the last 6 months– 4.5X/mo.
  • Romney leads RCP average by 8%

Nevada–Jan 12th (5 electoral votes) has been polled:

  • 2 times in the last 7 weeks.
  • 6 times in the last 6 months–1X/mo.
  • No RCP average calculated . . . but Romney leads Rudy by 1% over last 6 polls (though many expect Romney to do much better in the caucus format than Rudy)

Michigan–Jan 15th (17 electoral votes) has been polled:

  • 2 times in the last 7 weeks.
  • 7 times in the last 6 months–1.2X/mo.
  • Romney leads RCP average by 5%

South Carolina–Jan 19th (8 electoral votes) has been polled:

  • 6 times in the last 7 weeks.
  • 19 times in the last 6 months– 3.2X/mo.
  • Statistically a 3 way tie for first (Romney,Rudy, Fred)

Florida–Jan 29th (27 electoral votes) has been polled:

  • 11 times in the last 7 weeks.
  • 27 times in the last 6 months– 4.5X/mo.
  • Rudy leads RCP average by 11%

Some observations:

  1. The traditional “Big Three” early states (IA, NH, SC) have a long history of being frequently polled and this remains the case.
  2. MI and FL seem like they should be polled similarly to me (the two largest states prior to Feb 5th). However, where Romney leads and is expected to win there is a paucity of polls but where Rudy leads and is expected to win there’s over a poll per week (and nearly two per week over the last 7 weeks)
  3. There seems to be a polling firm “blind spot” to WY (completely) and Nevada (relatively) when these are two of the first 4 contests . . . and (”coincidentally”???) where Romney is leading polls or expected to win.

Now, moving on to Feb 5th (”Tsunami Tuesday”) some of the polling trends borderline on comical. Here are all the states going that date:
Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado (caucuses), Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota (caucuses), Oklahoma, Tennessee, Utah

New Jersey (15 electoral votes) has been polled:

  • 5 times in the last 7 weeks.
  • 12 times in the last 6 months– 2X/mo.
  • Rudy leads by OVER 40%!!.

WHY IS NJ BEING POLLED MORE THAN MICHIGAN?!?!? Rudy’s never led by less than 32% in any of these copious NJ polls. Who’s wasting all this money polling a state that’s never been close when it’s just another Feb 5th state? Something’s fishy there.

California (51 electoral votes) has been polled:

  • 5 times in the last 7 weeks.
  • 15 times in the last 6 months–2.5X/mo.
  • Rudy leads RCP average by 19%

CA is the biggest prize and so I see why it’s polled frequently

Moving on:

Pennsylvania–April 11th (YES, that’s over 2 months AFTER Tsunami Tues!; 21 electoral votes) has been polled:
3 times in the last 7 weeks.
11 times in the last 6 months– ~2X/mo.
Rudy leading by about 22%
Again, why in the world is this state being polled more than MI!? Don’t you think the results of the early states and the results of Tsunami Tuesday just might have a little effect on how Penn votes on April 11th? That’s called wasted money.

Conclusions/Questions:
So, is this ample evidence that there is an over-abundance and over-representation of polls for states where Rudy leads strongly? Or is there an ignoring of non-traditional early states where Romney is leading? Is this an attempt to get repeated positive news/headlines for Rudy and/or to downplay/diminish Mitt’s potential?

Why the huge disparity between MI and FL? Why more NJ and Penn polls than MI? Why is NV being largely ignored? Am I missing something? Am I doomed to become a “conspiracy theorist?”

Thoughts? Comments?

Romney’s Pennsylvania Man

April 10th, 2007 | 2 Comments | Posted in 2008, Pennsylvania

One of our readers, Conservative Gladiator, pointed out this article which is an interview with Charles Kopp. Kopp is the State Campaign Chairman in Pennsylvania. His perspective and experiences are interesting, I would recommend reading the whole article.

This short part tells about when he first met MR 2008:

Why Mitt Romney?

I could have supported any one of the three [GOP frontrunners]. The reason I ended up with Mr. Romney was a friend of mine from Boston who is Romneys northeast finance chairman who I have known for years called me last October and told me that the governor would like to come into Pennsylvania he said, “He really doesnt know a lot of people, maybe you could get 15 or 20 business people, community leaders, just a meet and greet.” I said Id be glad to do it. I got 15 or 20 people together. The meeting lasted about an hour and he stayed another hour with me and some other people. I was so impressed with the guy that I said to my friend, “This was a set up. You knew that if I spent two hours with the guy I would be taken by him.” And I was.

Yeah, he has that effect on people.
