Before You Vote For McCain on Super Tuesday…

Before you pull the lever for John McCain on Super Tuesday, please consider the following information first. As a Mitt Romney supporter, I would prefer to convince people why they should vote for my candidate, rather than against John McCain. However, I’ve tried this approach for the past 18 months, but people haven’t been able to get past his religion or the false impression that he’s a flip-flopper. As governor, Romney never contradicted a position he campaigned for in 2002 and while he did change his stance on abortion, he upheld his campaign promises throughout the end of his term. You can trust that the stances he is taking for America (which are decidedly different than the needs of Massachusetts in 2002), will be consistently adhered to while he is in office.

McCain on the other hand consistently changes positions, or blatantly lies about his record and the records of others. As accounts continue to surface about his private dealings with fellow legislators, staffers, and other private individuals, it is abundantly clear that John McCain is concerned about the one thing he’s always been concerned about—himself.

Perhaps you’ve resigned yourself to the “electability” argument, and believe that John McCain is the only Republican who could win in November. McCain will be the first one to tell you not to trust polls that come out 6 months before an election (just look at last July’s polling data for McCain). Additionally, you give the Democrats too much credit. As the economy and budget woes worsen, neither Hillary Clinton nor Barak Obama has any credibility to solve this impending crisis. On this issue alone, John McCain would be much easier to beat than Romney since he can’t run effectively on the economy. If we nominate John McCain, it will be like nominating Bob Dole all over again (and he was supposed to be the most electable at the time).

For all you know, everything I have just said could simply be made up charges for political reasons. So I ask you to take a look at the whole picture of John McCain’s life and his accelerated advancement through the naval ranks—in spite of his poor record and actions unbecoming of a Naval officer. As you read the following story of McCain’s Naval record, compare this with Mitt Romney and answer the following questions:

· Both had influential fathers, what did this give them in life?
· Both were accepted to prestigious universities, what did they do with that opportunity?
· Both had careers that ended in high-profile positions. How did they get there?
· How do their personal and family lives compare?
· What kind of people do they associate themselves with?
· What have these two candidate shown that they are good at?

Update on Devon

My daughter Jessica and Cousin Devon 11 days apart…
Jessica and Devon

As most of you know by my blog posts over the past couple of weeks, my nephew (my brother’s second oldest child) is dying of —>Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, or ALL. It is not likely that by this time tomorrow that he will be with us.
Devon June 2007
I was so fortunate to speak to him on the phone yesterday morning and hear a strong voice. I was also able to make sure that what I wished for him to have (two packs of orange tick tacks…one of his favorite treats) were given to him. He is a very special boy, one that I will always be honored to have known. I appreciate all of the monetary donations toward his funeral and burial expenses, love, thoughts, and prayers that you’ve embraced my family and me with these past couple of weeks. At this point I would just like to ask for two things, one that you hold those that you love dear and closer than ever (you never know when they might part this earth…Devon is only 11), and that you continue to pray for our family during this extremely painful time. We’re sure going to miss that kid. Thanks to all, and goodnight!

If you’re still interested in donating to “The Devon Curling Fund” you still can through the following two methods:

The Day I Voted For a Democrat

November 7th, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in 2007, Ernie Fletcher, Governor, Kentucky, Steve Beshear

KY Governor-Elect Steve Beshear

In my 33 yrs of life, I had never voted for a Democrat. That was until today, November 6, 2007.

My Governor, Ernie Fletcher here in Kentucky has been a do nothing Governor. As a matter of fact, I can’t think of one place where he’s made a difference in this state. He paid the price for that tonight 59%/41%.

Steve Beshear (our Governor-Elect, since he beat Fletcher) on the other hand just made me feel good about our state. When you live in a state like Kentucky, which is very poor (not to mention we don’t exactly get a ton of tax revenue…we don’t have any oceans, amusement parks (sans KY Kingdom in Louisville) or other things that other states can tax heavily to offset the costs of running of state government). Don’t get me wrong, I love living where I do. My kids have an awesome school, teachers that care a great deal for them, not to mention a great community to raise kids. I’m just saying that we have to make our own fun here (which isn’t too too hard given the lakes in this state). But, our state really has to cut costs more than say a state that has a lot of revenue.

Steve Beshear did a wonderful job at presenting himself as an honest man of integrity, plus he at least had a plan on how to help the health care crisis in the state (i.e. so many people are uninsured AS AM I). He also had plans for education as well. He laid it out well, and 59% of the voters agreed. So, we’re getting a change in this state. If Beshear doesn’t live up to his promises then I’ll vote him out just like Fletcher. But, Mr. Beshear gets a full vote of confidence when he assumes office early next year.

A side note also to add, something that probably sounds trivial, but means so much to me. I went to remind my Dad to vote this evening (I voted right before the polls closed)…he hasn’t been feeling very well at all lately (he’s 75, and definitely far from the Spring Chicken that he was when I was a kid) so he didn’t vote today. He just couldn’t get the energy to go out. But, he did tell me that had he had the chance, he would have voted for “my man” (meaning Beshear). He said I trust your opinion on this stuff so much Ann, that I felt compelled to give the guy a shot. I can’t tell you how great that made me feel. For the man that I’ve looked up to all of my life, to trust my opinion on something like this enough to have put his vote on it. Even as adults we seek the approval of our parents, and it just felt so good to feel that approval in this way.

Romney seeks support in Kentucky

As stated earlier in the week, I am so pleased to know that my congressman has endorsed Governor Romney for President. It just really means something to know the person that’s representing you in congress is supporting who you support for President. I just regret the fact that I could not attend this event in my own home state. :(

Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, fresh from picking up endorsements from three Kentucky congressmen, sought to boost his own campaign at a Republican dinner tonight while keeping aloof from the Kentucky GOPs own bitter gubernatorial race.

Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, was the keynote speaker at the annual Lincoln Day Dinner for the Republican Party of Kentucky. The $75-a-plate fundraiser drew 1,500 people to the Kentucky International Convention Center.

Romney sought to defuse questions about his Mormon faith as he campaigned in the heavily evangelical Christian state.

Ive spoken with a number of people of faith, he said, including evangelical leaders. Almost without exception, their view is even though the theology is different we share common values.

He acknowledged he came to some of those values recently, including changing his position to one of opposition to abortion two years ago during a controversy in Massachusetts over stem-cell research.

Romney, who has picked up the endorsement of U.S. Reps. Ron Lewis, Hal Rogers and Ed Whitfield, also used the occasion to criticize Democratic Sen. Hillary Clinton for calling for engagement with Iran.

He said Iran has refused to abandon its nuclear program. Instead, they have attacked our troops, they have called for the annihilation of Israel, he said. Referring to Irans president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, he said, His is a government that needs to be isolated and deterred, not rewarded.

Clinton said Thursday that a dialogue with countries hostile to Israel including Iran and Syria is needed, but she also called Iran a danger to the U.S. and one of Israels greatest threats, The Associated Press reported. In dealing with this threat … no option can be taken off the table, she said.

The dinner was also the first major event in which all three Republican candidates for governor appeared: Gov. Ernie Fletcher, former U.S. Rep. Anne Northup and Paducah entrepreneur Billy Harper. Their supporters, sporting campaign T-shirts and stickers, mingled with the formally dressed attendees.

Each candidate painstakingly walked through the convention center shaking hands at each of the 150 tables.

Supporters of each of the candidates were optimistic.

Harpers supporters were distributing buttons that said, I support a positive campaign.

Stan Pulliam, Harpers campaign manager, said, We can communicate differences in a positive way.

Harvey Edmonds, of St. Matthews, was sporting a Northup sticker. Weve been Annes supporters for a long time, he said. My wife was a volunteer on her first campaign.

Despite supporting a different candidate, he agreed with the sentiment of Harpers slogan, saying people need to elevate the quality of the dialogue.

Charles Sachatello, of Lexington, who taught Fletcher in medical school, said he has always supported Fletchers political campaigns. Hes going to win, he said.

GOVERNOR MITT ROMNEY ON SENATOR HILLARY CLINTON AND IRAN

February 3rd, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in Campaign Appearances, Democrats, Kentucky, Speeches

Louisville, KY Tonight, Governor Mitt Romney will keynote the Kentucky GOP Lincoln Day Dinner. Governor Romney will make remarks on the right strategy to deal with the threat posed by Iran.

Excerpt Of Governor Romney’s Remarks As Prepared For Delivery:

“Recently, the question of how we deal with Iran has been the subject of debate between myself and another potential White House candidate.

“In a speech two days ago in New York City, Senator Hillary Clinton said that she needs to quote ‘understand’ unquote Iran better and we need to quote ‘engage Iran’ unquote. She argued that our strategy of engagement with the Soviet Union during the Cold War was a model for how we could deal with Iran.

“I believe this strategy to be a mistake, and yesterday, to a group of fellow conservatives, I said as much. Advocating engagement displays a troubling timidity toward a terrible threat. The right strategy is not engagement, but economic and diplomatic isolation.

“Instead of responding to my policy criticisms, Senator Clinton has chosen to attack me personally. Let’s take a step back and consider the broader and more pressing issue at hand Iran, Syria, Hizbullah, and Hamas and the threat they pose to us, Israel, and the civilized world.

“Ten days ago, I was in Israel and heard firsthand from those who have been on the front lines of the war against the Jihadist radicals. Indeed, just a few months ago, the Israelis were confronted with a war by Hizbullah, a terrorist organization sponsored by Iran and Syria.

“Against the backdrop of last summer’s war, I was especially stunned to learn that Senator Clinton is now advocating for better ‘understanding’ of Iran, Syria, Hizbullah, and Hamas. Rather than attacking me, why doesn’t she join me in calling for a policy that puts even more pressure not less against these adversaries?”

GOVERNOR MITT ROMNEY ANNOUNCES SUPPORT OF KENTUCKY U.S. HOUSE MEMBERS

February 2nd, 2007 | 3 Comments | Posted in 2008, Announcements, Kentucky, Press Releases

This one’s particularly special news for me. My Congressman Ed Whitfield is supporting Governor Romney. It brings it a little “closer to home” for me just how strong Governor Romney’s candidacy is. I’ve been wearing my Romney button on my clothes for months now, and here in Kentucky hardly anyone I’ve come across has even known who he is. But, I’ve been telling everyone I know all about how great Governor Romney is and all that he’s accomplished as Governor. Well now I can add to that, “Congressman Whitfield has even endorsed him for President”. It should definitely perk up some ears.

Boston, MA Today, Governor Mitt Romney announced the support of the majority of the Republican U.S. House of Representatives members from Kentucky. Representatives Hal Rogers, Ron Lewis and Ed Whitfield will be joining the Romney for President Exploratory Committee as part of the Governor’s Congressional team.

Their many years of experience will be a great asset as we move forward,” said Governor Romney. “Our country faces a new generation of challenges that require innovative, bold solutions. It will be an honor to work with these Members of Congress as we build a stronger and more prosperous America.”

Kentuckians for Romney, Floridians for Romney, Michiganders for Romney

June 24th, 2006 | No Comments | Posted in Florida, Kentucky, Michigan

These three websites will be up shortly. I purchased Kentuckians for Romney for obvious reasons, I live in Kentucky. I purchased the other two because I was born and raised in Michigan, and I got married, and had and raised my children in Florida for ten years. I have emailed all the Kentucky, Florida, and Michigan people in my database asking for assistance in this endeavor. I just figured I’d let you all know about these upcoming sites.
