Kansas Supreme Court Hears Tiller Case: Abortion-Mill Doctor Subpoenaed

April 8th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Abortion, Kansas, Mitt Romney, Pro-life

I have been watching this case develop over the last couple of years. If Dr.Tiller is the gentle healer he claims to be and if any patient’s identifying information is redacted, what is the good Doctor so worried about? Why is he fighting this hammer and tong?

The Kansas Supreme Court heard arguments today over subpoenaed medical records of notorious abortionist George Tiller, who is accused of performing late-term abortions — which are illegal in Kansas — at his Wichita clinic.

In January, the Sedgwick County grand jury subpoenaed about 2,000 late-term abortion records from Tiller’s clinic; the judge reduced that to 250. Tiller is refusing to turn over the records, claiming it would violate his patients’ privacy. However, the grand jury requested that all patient-identifying information be redacted from the subpoenaed records before the jury receives them.

Tiller’s attorneys argued the grand jury investigation constitutes harassment, but several justices were skeptical of that claim, The Associated Press reported.

Operation Rescue President Troy Newman said the people who demanded this grand jury are tired of Tiller’s repeated obstructions.

Tiller just doesn’t want the grand jury to see anything — not the records, not the inside of his clinic, not the abortion process, and certainly not the truth,” he said. “The Supreme Court needs to allow the grand jury to do its job and conduct an honest and thorough investigation.”

Donna Lippoldt of the developing Kansas Family Policy Council participated in a prayer rally outside of Tiller’s clinic during the hearing. She was joined by pro-life groups, including Kansans for Life, Operation Save America, Pro-Life Kansas and Heartbeat Ministires.

Several life advocates also gathered for a rally outside the Supreme Court building in Topeka.

“If there is no way to hold George Tiller accountable, if he doesn’t ever have to produce any records, then how are we ever going to have any laws enforced in regard to stopping abortion?” Lippoldt asked. “If the Supreme Court of the state of Kansas denies the grand jury access to the redacted medical records to prove that laws have been broken, then George Tiller is truly above the law.”

A banner hanging outside Tiller’s clinic reads, “Wichita Stands with Dr. George Tiller. 35 Years of Saving Women’s Lives,” but Lippoldt said she does not see support for Tiller.

“George Tiller has bought so much influence over the last 35 years,” she said. “But if you go to the records, you’re going to find out that there has never been an instance in the last 35 years where George Tiller did an abortion to save a woman’s life.”

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment is reporting that almost half of the abortions in the state over the last decade have been performed on out-of-state women. In the past two years, nearly 90 percent have come from Missouri.

Operation Rescue’s Newman said many of those women came to see Tiller.

Before You Vote For McCain on Super Tuesday…

Before you pull the lever for John McCain on Super Tuesday, please consider the following information first. As a Mitt Romney supporter, I would prefer to convince people why they should vote for my candidate, rather than against John McCain. However, I’ve tried this approach for the past 18 months, but people haven’t been able to get past his religion or the false impression that he’s a flip-flopper. As governor, Romney never contradicted a position he campaigned for in 2002 and while he did change his stance on abortion, he upheld his campaign promises throughout the end of his term. You can trust that the stances he is taking for America (which are decidedly different than the needs of Massachusetts in 2002), will be consistently adhered to while he is in office.

McCain on the other hand consistently changes positions, or blatantly lies about his record and the records of others. As accounts continue to surface about his private dealings with fellow legislators, staffers, and other private individuals, it is abundantly clear that John McCain is concerned about the one thing he’s always been concerned about—himself.

Perhaps you’ve resigned yourself to the “electability” argument, and believe that John McCain is the only Republican who could win in November. McCain will be the first one to tell you not to trust polls that come out 6 months before an election (just look at last July’s polling data for McCain). Additionally, you give the Democrats too much credit. As the economy and budget woes worsen, neither Hillary Clinton nor Barak Obama has any credibility to solve this impending crisis. On this issue alone, John McCain would be much easier to beat than Romney since he can’t run effectively on the economy. If we nominate John McCain, it will be like nominating Bob Dole all over again (and he was supposed to be the most electable at the time).

For all you know, everything I have just said could simply be made up charges for political reasons. So I ask you to take a look at the whole picture of John McCain’s life and his accelerated advancement through the naval ranks—in spite of his poor record and actions unbecoming of a Naval officer. As you read the following story of McCain’s Naval record, compare this with Mitt Romney and answer the following questions:

· Both had influential fathers, what did this give them in life?
· Both were accepted to prestigious universities, what did they do with that opportunity?
· Both had careers that ended in high-profile positions. How did they get there?
· How do their personal and family lives compare?
· What kind of people do they associate themselves with?
· What have these two candidate shown that they are good at?

Romney Doing Well in Kansas

May 25th, 2007 | 2 Comments | Posted in 2008, Kansas, Polls

Don’t think Gov. Romney can win in the heartland? Well, check out a new poll coming out of Kansas.

Brownback - 18%
Romney - 17%
McCain - 13%
Giuliani - 13%
F Thompson - 7%
Gingrich - 6%
Tancredo - 2%
All others - 1% or less

Remember, Sen. Brownback is a native son, so it’s not surpring to see him doing so well. But for Gov. Romney to be statistically tied with him without, as far as I know, ever stepping into the state, is remarkable for an insurgent candidate.

CBS also has a national poll which shows Gov. Romney’s popularity jumping 50% since the last poll while Giuliani and Sen. McCain are in freefall.
