March 1st, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in Political Figures, Politics, The Caucus - New York Times

THE NEW YORK TIMES

The White House had an especially busy week, rolling out major policy initiatives with both the budget and Iraq. This Sunday’s breakfast menu reflects those two tall orders.

Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates is on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” while Adm. Michael G. Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, appears on both CNN’s “State of the Union” and “Fox News Sunday.” He is joined by Senator Jon Kyl of Arizona and Representative Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, both Republicans, on Fox, and by Representative Neil Abercrombie, Democrat of Hawaii, on CNN.

Rahm Emanuel, White House chief of staff, is on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” ABC’s “This Week” features Peter R. Orszag, the White House budget director, and Representative Eric Cantor of Virginia, the No. 3 House Republican.

National Brainstorming Session To Promote Mitt Romney for President in 2012 to be Held Tonight, Dec., 16th @ 9 PM Eastern

December 16th, 2008 | 17 Comments | Posted in Mitt Romney, Politics, Presidential Politics

Throughout the day readers from around the country will be sharing their ideas on how best to promote the Presidential candidacy of Gov. Mitt Romney. We will be sharing strategies for grassroots efforts and tech tips on how to use the ‘Net to help spread our conviction that Mitt Romney should be the standard bearer of the Republican Party in 2012.

This is our first attempt to have a session of this size, so we have no idea if this site will be overwhelmed, underwhelmed or something in between. Just to be prudent I think we need to address the overwhelmed scenario. If we get a ton of traffic on the chatbox ( located on the right margin of the site, near the top ) it will get crazy in a hurry. This past summer during the Republican Convention, we were live blogging with about 20 participants and that got pretty wild, with everyone sending in their responses to what was on our TV screens, all at the same time.

If that happens tonight, but on a much bigger scale, please post your ideas on the comments section of this post. As I said last night to one of our readers, I would prefer that most of the traffic come onto the comments section of this post, especially when our readers have links to share with us. We would prefer to have a record of your ideas to refer to in the future.

Also, for those of you who would like to participate, but won’t be able to come on the site this evening, please post your ideas in the comments section of this post throughout the day.

Thanks in advance for your help and your enthusiasm. We are looking forward to a fun and informative evening as we discuss All Things Romney!

Ohio Activists Reject Romney….Caution: Moonbat Alert!

If this is a legitimate article, the “activist” quoted is displaying logic that has more holes in it than a piece of Swiss cheese. Let’s dissect the quotes.

Ohio activists reject Romney
He would be poor VP choice, they say

Tuesday, August 12, 2008 3:20 AM

By Jonathan Riskind
THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

WASHINGTON – Some Ohio social conservatives say they know whom they don’t want John McCain to pick as his running mate: former Republican presidential rival Mitt Romney.

In a move that may say as much about their continuing uneasiness regarding McCain as it does about their mistrust of Romney, an alliance of Buckeye State social conservatives is trying to form a group: Social Conservatives Against Romney.

“Social Conservatives against Romney.” I suppose it would be too much to ask what these folks are for, like a strong pro life position that has been held for several years after what I believe was a sincere change of heart, a pro business position that favors a corporate tax cut that will enhance America’s competitive position, a pro military policy that will protect America from the totalitarians that would love to destroy us and our ideas of democracy and freedom.

Although McCain is keeping his potential vice-presidential choices a tightly held secret, Romney is said to be on the short list.

Romney is said to be on the short list. I wonder why that is. Could it be because of his unrivaled competency in so many areas, his evident intelligence and grasp of complex issues. Where is Huckabee on that list? Perhaps he is not on the list because he has been correctly categorized as a smooth talking lightweight?

“Christians are praying earnestly for the right person,” said Diane Stover, a Parma resident who was a delegate for GOP candidate Mike Huckabee, a favorite of many social conservatives, in the Ohio primary. “McCain wouldn’t have been our person. But we definitely feel like it would be a huge help to John McCain to pick someone we can be confident will represent the value-voter position. I don’t think it helps him (McCain) at all in Ohio if he picks Romney.”

Oh right. You folks have obviously distinguished your selves as great candidate-pickers. Your first choice was asked during the primaries if he was a “foreign policy expert” and he infamously replied: “No, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.”

A McCain spokesman said the campaign won’t comment on any aspect of the process of selecting a running mate.

Jane Maines of Hamilton, also a former Huckabee delegate, said the anti-Romney Ohioans hope their group will spread to other states.

They apparently want to extend the winning streak they enjoyed during the primary into the general election.

Stover and Maines are among about a dozen activists who met near Cincinnati last week, with Stover participating via phone from the Cleveland area, to discuss how to launch the group.
“We’re hoping this will become hugely widespread,” Maines said.

Big things can start from small beginnings, but in this group’s case, I think it will probably be more of a case of starting small and then shrinking.

She said she doesn’t consider the anti-Romney effort to be anti-McCain, despite saying McCain is not a “real conservative.” She said she and other conservatives will support McCain in November, noting that he has had a consistent anti-abortion voting record as a senator from Arizona.

Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, is too inconsistent on issues such as abortion and gay rights “for someone who calls himself a conservative,” Maines said.

The group overlooks McCain flips on taxes, domestic drilling and his huge flip on illegal immigration….All this makes me think that this tiny group in more about religious intolerance then it is about Gov. Romney’s political positions. As a Reagan Republican and as a conservative Catholic, I will repeat what I started saying almost two years ago. Mitt Romney more closely represents me and the values that I share with my Catholic and Protestant friends and associates than any of the candidates in either party this election cycle. If Mitt Romney does not get the VP nod, I will be ready to support him again in 2012.

Young Americans for Freedom: Activists Wanted

July 27th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in America, Politics, Ronald W. Reagan

I always associate the conservative political activist organization, Young Americans for Freedom, with the idealism and philosophy of President Reagan. I came across their website this afternoon and thought it would be good to give them a plug because of the fine work they do in promoting the conservative cause.

If you are a young adult looking for an organization that will help you channel your energy and passion for politics, please click on over to their website and check out this great group of Young Americans for Freedom.

~~John Cronin~~

http://www.yaf.com/index.php

Activists Wanted.

The trend is disturbing. If you listen to the mainstream news, young people around the country are surging to become activists for more government, more taxes, more political correctness, and a foreign policy that is destructive to U.S. interests. Moreover, they advocate stripping the individual of their inherent rights and focusing on group rights.

There is some merit to these reports. The forces against freedom have gotten better organized over the past decade. There’s a lot of cash from the government and others going into organizing this effort.

Across the country, however, Young Americans for Freedom (YAF), America’s oldest, largest, and most active conservative/libertarian youth organization, is redoubling its efforts to fight for less government, more freedom, and a foreign policy that does not bend over backwards to dictators that would love to kill America’s freedom.

If you’re interested in helping us win this battle, please contact us. If you do join us, you’ll find that you will be in the center of this battle with a unique and great network of fellow activists busy promoting freedom.

Man of Conviction

If you haven’t been following the story of Obama’s Chicago pal and campaign contributor, Tony Rezko, go on over to the INVESTOR’S BUSINESS DAILY WEBSITE and check out yet another of Obama’s questionable liaisons.

My question to Obama supporters is: “Given the kind of dubious characters your candidate surrounds himself with, what kind of person would a President Obama appoint as his Attorney General?”

Al Qaeda Chief Slams Muslims for Lack of Support

April 23rd, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in Humor, Osama Bin Laden, Politics, Radical Islam, The War in Iraq

This post is meant partly as tongue-in-cheek humor. Aside from the fact that it is talking about a very serious subject, their is, I think, some humor in the phrase I have put in bold. It seems Al Qaeda has some of the same problems that Republican political activists have. Never enough volunteers or money.

~~John Cronin~~

http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=080422100510.qnl6rneq&show_article=1

Al-Qaeda number two Ayman al-Zawahiri criticised Muslims for failing to support Islamist insurgencies in Iraq and elsewhere in a new audiotape posted Tuesday on the Internet.
Osama bin Laden’s top lieutenant also blasted Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas over their reported readiness to consider a peace deal with Israel.

“I call upon the Muslim nation to fear Allah’s question (at judgement day) about its failure to support its brothers of the Mujahedeen (holy Warriors), and (urge it) not to withhold men and money, which is the mainstay of a war,” he said.

McCain Leading Both Obama and Clinton

Seems the nastiness going on between Sens Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are making them both dirty, and beneficiary of all the dirt is Sen. John McCain the guaranteed Republican nominee.

You can check out the article at Reuters.

Highlights:

The poll showed Arizona Sen. McCain, who has clinched the Republican presidential nomination, is benefiting from the lengthy campaign battle between Obama and Clinton, who are now battling to win Pennsylvania on April 22.

McCain leads 46 percent to 40 percent in a hypothetical matchup against Obama in the November presidential election, according to the poll.

No Defeat

Many who read or write on this blog may feel disheartened by Romney’s “defeat” (actually a strong 2nd) in today’s Florida Primary. Certainly after much hard work by all of us it is only natural to sense some discouragement…somewhat like the wind being knocked out of your sails for a moment. We had expected a victory and we wouldn’t settle for less. As an avid lover of the sea I have noticed that the wind always returns and the sails fill again sending the ship to its intended destination.

Florida was one state out of fifty. Super Tuesday is coming. We cannot let the outcome of Florida betray our enthusiasm. Romney will win the Republican nomination for President of the United States.

Ann Romney brings immediate optimism with her statement, “This is just a send-off point; this is not an end.” I love the excitement she brings to the moment. What a great political partner to have in such a tight and contentious race!

One of the greatest Presidents in our history was an eternal optimist. After many political defeats (and one in particular), Lincoln told his friend Dr. Ray who continued to brood over Lincoln’s defeat, “You will soon feel better. Another blow up is coming; and we shall have fun again.” (Quoted from Team of Rivals)

Lincoln was not discouraged by his defeats…only his friends were. Like them, as we refocus our efforts towards Romney’s eventual nomination, we need to pull the bootstraps tight and start working the trenches just a bit harder. We are fighting for certain principles and for a better America. Each state individually is one stepping stone along the path to ultimate victory. The next contest is coming and it will be fun.

Just like Lincoln, Romney is winning the respect of others, earning their trust and even devotion as he moves along the campaign trail introducing himself to those who barely know him.

Read the following quotes about Lincoln’s strategy for the nomination. I think you will find them similar to Romney’s. These quotes are taken from A Team of Rivals.

As a dark horse, he knew it was important not to reveal his intentions too early, so as to minimize the possibility of opponents mobilizing against him.

It was important that any efforts on his behalf be squelched until the timing was right, and Lincoln, as would be evidenced throughout his presidency was a master of timing.

Not hindered by the hubris, delusions, and inconsistencies that plagued his three chief rivals, Lincoln gained steady ground through a combination of hard work, skill and luck. While his rivals felt compelled to reposition themselves toward the center of the party, Lincoln never changed his basic stance.

Though a successful bid for the nomination remained unlikely, a viable candidacy was no longer an impossible dream. Slowly and methodically, Lincoln set out to improve his long odds.

Most of his audiences had never laid eyes on him.

Once he began speaking he invariably forged an indelible impression, and left an impact on his listeners.

Though sensed by many to be an underdog candidate, Lincoln rose to the top and captured the nomination.

Romney is a master strategist. His focus for the nation is the right one. As we work “slowly and methodically” from state to state bringing the message of change, of fixing a broken Washington, and a re-commitment to time held American family values, I believe that America will listen, and the ‘long odds’ of success will be realized as we witness Romney place his hand on the Bible and swear and oath of duty as our next President.

…Head to Head Polls…

I am in wonderment as to why the MSM pays any attention to the Head to Head polls when we have not even finished the primaries. I know that it is fun for them to speculate and it makes news, but polls on this national level mean nothing. If I was to look at this logically why would we, as the republican party, want to send McCain up against Hillary. Politically it would be like a Brother and Sister running against each other for President of the U.S. Are we so blind that we cannot see that rotating chairs in Washington with people that have been their for so many years is not a good idea. Why do you think that the most successful coporations higher their CEO from outside unless they were groomed specicially for the role. This process would not take 30 years. OOOOOOOOh I forgot this is washington, not the real world…

Florida Trending Romney!

January 25th, 2008 | 16 Comments | Posted in Politics, Polls

Polls are very interesting, but it’s hard to get an idea of what is going on within certain polls. I much prefer to look at the TRENDLINE WITHIN certain polls. This way, its very easy to see who has the MOMENTUM within a poll and who is losing steam. I do this, because, each polling organization has a certain set of parameters and it does not change poll to poll.

With that said, let’s take a look at 3 big polling outfits who have been polling FL since Jan 1.

Insider Advantage (5 polls taken from 1/1 - 1/25)
: Romney -6, Even, Romney +6, Romney -1, Even.

Survey USA (4 polls taken from 1/1 - 1/25)
: Romney -10, Romney -7, Romney -6, Romney -2

Rasmussen (3 polls from 1/1 - 1/25)
: Romney -1, Romney +5, Romney +4.

So, what it looks like to me is Romney was behind in early Jan..however as of late he has made a surge and is leading in 2 out of 3 polls and DEFINITLY has the momentum to overtake McCain.

Couple this with the intrade #’s showing Romney at 60% and McCain at 35% to win FL…and I think we have the recipe for a Romney Florida Win.

I think the McCain camp knows this also, as they must have gotten internals that show Mitt is cleaning the floor with them with the economic issue. This is why McCain is attacking Romney today about the Economy.

Bad bad move on team McCain’s part, as this is Romney’s strong suit.
It feels much much like Michigan did 4 days before their primary

Romney 27%
McCain 23%

Onward and upward. Godspeed, Mr Romney.

Retail Politics

I spent 3 hours canvassing door-to-door in my neighborhood yesterday and the results were very encouraging. The vast majority of the people who came to the door ranged from respectful to enthusiastic, with only a hand full getting testy with me.

I was able to put out two yard signs and sign up those two households to be part of my precinct team. The cool thing was that both of the families said that they had young adult children who were looking for ways to get involved and the parents would put them in touch with me so that we can get them involved with phone banking and neighborhood canvassing.

Several people commented that “you are representing a good man” and others said “I like his “can-do optimism” in regard to “saving American jobs.” The voters in my precinct are moving from McCain to Romney because they now see the economy as the #1 issue, especially with stories in the news about the oil producing states now favoring the Euro over the American dollar, layoffs and the stock market tanking as well as fears of bond market defaults. I just don’t see Pastor Huckabee doing well in this environment. The perception is that McCain is out of his depth as well.

The weather in St. Louis was just about identical to that first day of canvassing in Iowa. There is an old saying that “Only mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the noon day sun.” This campaign’s counterpart to that expression probably should be that “Only mad dogs and Republicans go out in -15 degree wind chill factors.” Nevertheless, several people said they were impressed with the level of dedication that Gov. Romney inspired in his campaign volunteers.

I can not over emphasize the importance of getting out into your own neighborhoods to build a solid grassroots organization. I know it’s fun to prognosticate here on the blog, and that serves an important purpose as well, but what this campaign needs more that anything right now is foot soldiers who are willing to press the doorbells, knock on doors, stick Romney yard signs in the frozen turf, hand out bumper stickers and make the phone calls that get out the vote to help insure a Romney victory. Now, you can multiply everything I’ve just said by three if your state is part of “Tsunami Tuesday” on Feb. 5. If you live in one of those states and would like to help, please email me at jtc1767@yahoo.com and I will pass your info. along to the National Campaign through my contacts at MissouriansForMitt.

Please don’t put it off, do it right now! This can be your time to become a part of American political history and help elect the next President of the United States of America, Mitt Romney!
