Petition Signers Have Decided to be Indecisive and That’s a Definite Maybe

I consider myself a rank amateur in politics, but I try to read something everyday to better educate myself. Having said that, I am shaking my head at some on the religious right who are making a spectacle of themselves with this whole “No Mitt/I was for him before I was against him” jive. If they don’t get themselves under control and stop flailing about and writhing on the floor over their erstwhile standard bearer, Pastor Mike “Stalking Horse” Huckabee, they are going to burn through whatever is left of their credibility.

The rest of the religious right (of which I consider myself a member) is watching and taking note of who is involved in these antics. Come 2012, when it is highly likely that the Republican Wing of the Republican Party will have to sweep up whatever mess all these folks leave behind, we will be choosing to work with reliable, loyal and competent political activists.

I provided a quote below from a comment on one of the articles on the controversy.

It is no surprise to me that this group officially endorses Mike Huckabee as President, even after John McCain has won the nomination. It looks to me like Mike Huckabee is trying to gather as much support around him as possible to position himself well for the 2012 election cycle.

Apparently, these conservative leaders believe that combining religion and government would be best for everyone. I agree with this article that all of them are now “flip-floppers.” It is also amazing to me that many of the “conservative RINO” leaders signing this ad were from Massachusetts who obviously lost some money for the support of their own political agendas through Mitt Romney’s work to provide a surplus to the state.

It is interesting to me that Mitt Romney still took Massachusetts. If he had done so terribly there, why did the GOP in Massachusetts give him such a resounding victory? I guess these leaders are not all that they are cracked up to be! I would recommend that those who support them leave now! All of them have their own political agenda and it may not conform to what you think it should be. Buyer beware!

Paul Weyrich Disavows Anti-Romney Ad

April 8th, 2008 | 6 Comments | Posted in 2008, Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, Paul Weyrich

Well, this looks like a case of “I was against it, before I was for it, before I was against it”.  Rergarding his name being included on the the anti-Romney ad, Werich says:

Recently I received a phone call from someone asking if former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney should be Arizona Senator John McCain’s selection for Vice President of the United States. I said, “No” because I did not think this was the best path for Romney right now; nor was it, in my view, the right fit for McCain. My understanding was that this was to be a personal letter to the Senator; it was not clear to me that this was to be an advertisement. Thus, I now request that my involvement in this effort be disregarded as this effort to influence the Senator moves on.

Obviously this guy is not scoring any points for judgement or consistency. At least he has recognized that he made a mistake. He endorsed Mike Huckabee after Mitt dropped out; and he obviously regrets supporting Mitt to begin with, as last month he uttered the following to several dozen “Christian Leaders”:

Friends, before all of you and before almighty God, I want to say I was wrong.

Weyrich is free to make his own decisions; I feel that cutting him some slack is in order, as he had both of his legs amputated from complications which followed a serious spinal injury. If these Social Conservatives  Huckabee supporters feel that they should have backed their candidate sooner, that is fine; however their choice to attack Mitt Romney as a result of their own ineptitude is ridiculous at best.

Romney’s Ex-Friends

April 5th, 2008 | 10 Comments | Posted in Mike Huckabee, Mitt Romney, Paul Weyrich, Reagan

Paul Weyrich should be ashamed of himself and Mike Huckabee is a disgrace to the Republican Party who would better spend his time trying to land a game show gig.

As if conservatives don’t get skewered often enough by the MSM, for no reason other than that we are conservative, along comes Paul Weyrich to flip-flop on his endorsement of Gov. Romney. If MR was presidential timber in November, how can he be persona non grata in April?

Mr. Weyrich was an early supporter of Ronald Reagan, so he should remember The Gipper’s famous 11th Commandment: “Thou shall not criticize another Republican.”

I’d rather be criticized on a point of policy than to have an endorsement rescinded. In the real estate business they say: Location, Location, Location. In politics the guiding policy is: Loyalty, Loyalty, Loyalty.

If you don’t think your endorsements through, then maybe you shouldn’t be in the endorsement business.

So, is it possible that Mitt Romney was the best choice for the Republican presidential nomination, but is unacceptable at vice-presidential nominee? For conservative heavy-hitter Paul Weyrich, the answer seems to be “yes.” “A group of social conservatives has launched an effort to keep Mitt Romney off John McCain’s ticket,” explains Jonathan Martin of the Politico.

“Under the rubric of an obscure PAC called Government Is Not God, a coalition of longtime Romney opponents and past supporters of Mike Huckabee have created a website and are buying print ads that resurrect the former Massachusetts governor’s past abortion and gay rights stances.”

So far so predictable, but here’s the twist: “The group does, though, include one high-profile Romney backer. Veteran movement conservative leader Paul Weyrich endorsed Romney in the heat of the primary before throwing his support to Huckabee after Mitt got out,” Martin writes

Romney for President! Not for VP!

Paul Weyrich must be auditioning for the part of Judas. What we have is an organization that endorsed Mike Huckabee for President, that is upset that their guy is not being considered for VP. What I find extremely troubling is that Paul Weyrich supported Governor Romney until recent days. In fact, regarding John McCain’s potential choice for VP, Weyrich just last month had this to say:

If he selects somebody bad from our point of view, it’s going to be very difficult,” he told the magazine. “It will reinforce prejudice against him. If he selects somebody pretty good, it’ll be moderately helpful…. It would help if he selected Mitt Romney, but he won’t.

The group responsible for turning Weyrich away from Romney, obviously used identity politics. After all, Weyrich initially found himself at odds with Romney when John McCain received Romney’s endorsement. So he supported Romney over McCain, Huckabee over McCain, and now supports McCain but not Romney??? This man has no integrity; he is a liar and a cheat. What did the group do to gain his support, threaten to take away his Christian card?

Question: If you endorse someone for President, then say that they are unfit to become Vice President, does that not say more of your lack of Judgment than theirs?
