Keeping the Border Issue Alive |
Congratulations to readers 2thePoint and Evelio Perez for helping to keep the issue of illegal immigration alive. They said in their comments that the issue was noticeable by it’s absence at the recently ended Republican Convention. I assume the political consultants employed by the campaign “focus-grouped” it and decided to keep the spotlight off the issue, fearing a back lash from Hispanic voters. As Evelio points out, he is an American of Cuban descent and his prescription for the border as an Hispanic is to CLOSE IT!

2thePoint Says
We all know where Romney stood on illegal immigration - an issue so vital to our nation’s security. Illegal aliens were not mentioned by either party’s Pres/VP candidates during their speeches at the Repub or Dem conventions. I want to hear specifics from McCain/Palin and Obama/Biden on how they plan to build and enforce a REAL border, what to do with the millions of aliens in America, their opinions on “anchor babies” given automatic U.S. citizenship, how they would handle the increasing violence on the US/Mexican border due to Mexican organized criminals attempting to establish a significant presence in the U.S., and their opinions on the incarcerations of U.S. border agents Jose Alonso Compean to 12 years in prison and Ignacio Ramos to 11 years.
Our past and present methods of dealing with our borders are a real and present threat to every American. The United States can not pretend for four more years that these issues are going to be solved without making DRASTIC changes.

Our past and current methods of enforcing our borders are woefully ineffective. Our border patrol agents are to be commended, but our cellophane borders and the perpetual inundation of illegal aliens are a real and present danger to every American.

2THEPOINT , You sooooo right , could we have our first Mexican-American president in the near future ? Probably , our way of life is being attacked from all borders and our leaders seem to welcome them with open arms . You are correct, none of the candidates have said word one from our biggest threat , illegal immigration . I am a Cuban , but an American first , close the borders now or face the consequences later.
I hope that Mitt Romney again leads the charge in the illegal immigration fiasco , this could be a good catapult to the Presidency on 2012 .

ROMNEY STATEMENT ON GOVERNOR SARAH PALIN
BOSTON. . . Governor Romney today issued the following statement on John McCain’s selection of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his vice presidential running mate:
“Governor Palin’s story is one that all Americans will find inspiring. She’s a Washington outsider with a commitment to the conservative principles that will make our nation stronger. I look forward to campaigning for Senator McCain, Governor Palin and Republicans all across the country.”

Remember those Obama/Bayh Bumper Stickers, now Pawlenty getting all this publicity. Now I don’t know who in the world McCain is picking for VP nor have I ever espoused telepathic abilities in that area, but this fawning over what Drudge thinks I think is going a bit over the top. Sure he’s right on a lot of stories, but there are just as many that he gets wrong. So, lets just stay calm everyone. If Romney gets it WONDERFUL, but if he doesn’t…he doesn’t. This speculation is just that. We’ll know when we’re supposed to know.
Just a bit of commentary for what it’s worth.

This guy has been touting how he’s like “one of us”. He’s just like the middle class, downtrodden and all.
Well, Mr. Obama sure isn’t portraying himself as one us by speaking from in front of this over the top temple to him and his ego of the same size.

I just love this man, listen to him speak. He’s just fantastic. I’m so glad that I’ve been a part of this whole campaign experience since before he announced he’d run for President. I’ve had the absolute time of my life. Oh, and by the way I’m heading to Missouri for Sunday’s Rally in O’Fallon Missouri

We will soon know who the Democrat and Republican vice-presidential candidates will be. Who will Sen. John McCain pick to stand beside him? Although to some it is doubtful, will Mitt Romney be his choice?
Common sense almost dictates that “the candidate Republicans should be clamoring for is the one liberals are most feverishly denouncing. That is Mitt Romney by a landslide.” — Ann Coulter
Evangelical Christians have been aware of the dirge sung by those who, for whatever reason, wish to exclude Romney from consideration for the VP post on the Republican ticket. Very well-crafted words are being used to try to induce Evangelicals to withhold their votes from this very qualified man because of his (Mormon) faith.
Political pundits have broken down some of these misconceptions. Romney’s conservatism is accepted among Evangelicals. His experiences as a businessman are appealing in today’s weak economy. His years of successfully working within the global economy demonstrate his knowledge of how markets work. He would strengthen the ticket in light of McCain’s perceived weakness on economic issues.

George Hussein Onyango Obama
UK’s Telegraph reports that Barack Obama’s brother is living in Poverty…
From the article:
Mr Obama, 26, the youngest of the presidential candidate’s half-brothers, spoke for the first time about his life, which could not be more different than that of the Democratic contender.
“No-one knows who I am,” he told the magazine, before claiming: “I live here on less than a dollar a month.”
and
He told the magazine: “I live like a recluse, no-one knows I exist.”
Embarrassed by his penury, he said that he does not does not mention his famous half-brother in conversation.
“If anyone says something about my surname, I say we are not related. I am ashamed,” he said.
and
For ten years George Obama lived rough. However he now hopes to try to sort his life out by starting a course at a local technical college.
He has only met his famous older brother twice - once when he was just five and the last time in 2006 when Senator Obama was on a tour of East Africa and visited Nairobi.
The Illinois senator mentions his brother in his autobiography, describing him in just one passing paragraph as a “beautiful boy with a rounded head”.
Of their second meeting, George Obama said: “It was very brief, we spoke for just a few minutes. It was like meeting a complete stranger.”
and
“Huruma is a tough place, last January during the elections there was rioting and six people were hacked to death. The police don’t even arrest you they just shoot you.
“I have seen two of my friends killed. I have scars from defending myself with my fists. I am good with my fists.”
Commentary:
It’s incredibly amazing and hypocritical of some in the media that went after Mitt Romney’s Grandfather’s polygamy when we have a presumptive nominee of a major party who’s father was a polygamist and has multitudes of children living in poverty in Africa. Why isn’t Barack taking care of his own destitute family members???
Chaffetz Picks Up Romney EndorsementAugust 8th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in Jason Chaffetz, Mitt Romney, Republican Party, Republicans, Utah

Jason Chaffetz continues to burnish his conservative credentials as he picks up the endorsement of another rising star in the Republican Party, Mitt Romney.

Joe Pyrah - Daily Herald
With a lengthening parade of endorsements by well known Republicans — now including Mitt Romney — Jason Chaffetz, the GOP candidate for Utah’s Third District seat in Congress, may not need the backing of incumbent Rep. Chris Cannon.
On Thursday the Herald learned that Romney plans to endorse Chaffetz next week, joining Utah Sens. Bob Bennett and Orrin Hatch, and Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr., who have already endorsed him.
Cannon, meanwhile, remains cool to his former rival. In a written statement Thursday, Cannon referred to “questions” about Chaffetz from residents of his district, and said he will seek a meeting with him during Congress’s summer recess, which has just begun.
“A number of residents of the 3rd District have asked me questions about issues that I need to ask Jason prior to an endorsement. I view this as part of my obligation as their representative,” Cannon said.
Chaffetz defeated Cannon by 20 points in the party’s June 24 primary.
Utah, especially the 3rd District, adores Romney. He won the presidential primary here with nearly 90 percent of the vote. Provo’s 84604 ZIP code was the top grossing fundraising area in the country for his campaign, with Chaffetz’s ZIP code in Alpine ranking ninth.
“Utah certainly claims Romney as a native son,” said Kirk Jowers of the Hinckley Institute of Politics.
“An endorsement by Romney is pure gold in Utah. No one has ever gotten 90 percent, really, in any contest before.”
Chaffetz is running against Democrat Bennion Spencer and Constitutionalist Jim Noorlander in November’s general election.
Spencer doesn’t mind that Romney has endorsed his opponent. He likes the former Massachusetts governor. “His position that Washington is broken is true,” Spencer said.
For his part, Spencer has the endorsement of former KSL anchor and Utah mainstay Dick Nourse. “It’s a non-partisan name, and it’s a name people trust,” he said.
Spencer said people are looking past simple partisan politics and are focusing on issues such as energy dependence and the country’s economic struggles.
“So many people are frustrated and are looking for a level of trust and confidence,” Spencer said.
“We’re facing American problems and Utah problems.”
Speaking of Romney, Chaffetz said, “He’s probably the singular most popular figure in Utah. He reaches an audience above and beyond those people I normally communicate with.”
The Romney endorsement may enhance Chaffetz’s fundraising efforts, which could help insulate him from future challenges. Jowers compares the situation to Rep. Jim Matheson, D-Utah, who has built up such a large war chest that opponents are scared off — though political safety is not absolute. Chaffetz himself found a way to overcome Cannon’s massive fundraising advantage, for example.
“Gov. Romney is interested in supporting candidates who will promote policies that will strengthen our families, our economy and our military,” said spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom. “He sees in Jason Chaffetz a dynamic young leader.”
Romney is reportedly among the favorites to become vice-presidential running mate to Republican Sen. John McCain.
Even NPR touting Romney Veep potential? |
Ambivalent is how I feel about NPR publishing a story touting Romney for Veep. Nonetheless, there does seem to be a critical mass of press about Romney’s Veep potential this last week or two, doesn’t there? Some key quotes:
Romney’s polish as a stand-in, combined with his business success and reassuring demeanor, look better and better as the economic issue ascends. Romney could help out in Michigan, where his name still works. He would also be at least some help in his other home regions of New England and the Mountain West.
Romney was also the guy who would have won in Iowa without the presence of evangelical preacher Mike Huckabee. Romney, who beat McCain soundly in Michigan, surely would have done so again in South Carolina and Florida if he had not been splitting the conservative vote in those states four ways with Huckabee, Fred Thompson and Rudy Giuliani.
Wow, that’s quite an endorsement from an MSM stalwart like NPR. I totally agree with the sentiment but…it’s NPR!
