Flag Waving
..
To all those out there reading this that are working your hearts out in each of the Tsunami Tuesday states, thank you so much! I can’t tell you how many emails I have received from all over this great nation of America telling me of success and influence and friendships made! Keep up the great work. We all need to keep doing all we can to get-out-the-vote until one minute before our respective closing times at the polls.

Please indulge me as I again post an invitation to the California Election Night returns. By the way, Matt Romney, during his interview, told me that he has received calls from Texas and others states of friends and supporters who are flying to San Diego today to attend this function in support of Mitt Romney and be present for what we all hope will be an upset in California. If you can make it, Governor Romney would like as many of us to be there as possible for tremendous support. Many friends of mine will be there as will my family. Matt told me he will be there among others you have seen on the trail. Here are the details:

Matt Romney’s Thoughts on the Eve of Tsunami Tuesday

Flag WavingUnfortunately, I was unable to attend the rally tonight in Long Beach. Matt Romney kindly granted an interview which I conducted over the phone as he drove home to San Diego with his family. Since I did not have a recorder, and don’t have the skill of short-hand, this is my best transcription from my notes:

“It was a remarkable turnout in the tight time frame we had.   I was sitting in the Denver airport yesterday and got a call from my dad who said he was going to California the next day and asked me, ‘can you bring some friends?’   I put the word out and look at the amazing turnout we got!   A friend of mine said he did a rough count of those in attendance and counted about 2,000; with one day’s notice!   I think this remarkable turn-out, on such a short notice, is indicative that my dad’s message is resonating with the people of California.”

Since I could not attend tonight, I asked Matt who, besides himself and Governor Romney, were in attendance at the rally. He said that Jim and Becky Davies (Ann’s brother and sister-in-law) were there along with Congressmen Dana Rohrabacher (R-46th), John Campbell (R-48th), and Buck McKeon (R-25th). Also there, was conservative talk show host, constitutional law professor, and author Hugh Hewitt.

He continued:

“After the rally, I chatted with Congressman Rohrabacher about the surfboard he presented to my dad last week at the rally in Fountain Valley [CA] and joked that as we get closer to the general election this year, we need to get my dad back out here for a surf party and (stealing a line from someone else) ‘ride the wave of conservative momentum right up to the general election!’

..

A number of people from around the state of California, who have the pulse of the people, have told me that in the last four to five days, the momentum has shifted and picked up for us. I feel pretty good about our chances here in California of getting more delegates than John McCain will get tomorrow.

The mainstream media has been wrong time and again and we will prove them wrong again. We need to get every conservative voter out to the polls in every state tomorrow to vote for Mitt Romney and prove the mainstream media wrong again.

Please tell all your readers and all those who are working so hard to influence others, THANK YOU!

Let’t make it happen! GO MITT!

“CHANGE BEGINS WITH US”

Mitt Romney TOUR STOP

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2008

7:00 PM

AT

DAUGHERTY SKY HARBOR

2801 EAST SPRING STREET

LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA

This rally is not a fundraiser — IT IS FREE! Just come ready to scream! (direct quote by Matt Romney)

In the last three hours, I received email messages from David Parker, Jim Davies, and Matt Romney asking for all of us in California to spread the word about this appearance of Governor Romney tonight! Please forward this post to all those you know in California to get as many people as possible to this rally. I looked up the address in MapQuest; the location is immediately adjacent to the Long Beach Airport and next to I-405.

By David Parker:

Mitt Romney is surging in the polls with the coalescing of the conservative base of the Republican Party and is on a 10-state run before Super Tuesday. Amazingly, Mitt will be in California today, Monday February 4th. We are hosting a Rally for Mitt near the Long Beach Airport today at 7pm. Please gather your friends and family and join us. I will be sending out a follow up email with all of the details later this evening or first thing tomorrow.

Recent Polls have Mitt leading in California, Georgia, Colorado, Utah, Idaho, Massachusetts and several other Super Tuesday states, and Rasmussen’s daily tracking poll came out today showing Mitt and John McCain tied nationally. Every vote counts and we would encourage you to talk to your friends about voting for Mitt on Tuesday. Contrary to the media’s wanting of John McCain to win the day, Mitt is surging nationally and is well positioned for a strong Tuesday showing. This is going to be a very competitive race and we need to join with other conservative Republicans and Rally to and for Mitt.

Please gather as many as you are able and join us in Long Beach tomorrow evening. The media is watching, but more importantly, Mitt is truly energized and lifted when he feels the strength of those who support him. Speaking to Mitt after the Rally last week in Orange County, he told me how appreciative and strengthened he was because of such a great outpouring. He and Ann can feel the strength and encouragement of so many in this cause. We are bound as one at this critical time.

Thanks for taking the time to read this, but especially thanks in advance for coming out tomorrow evening. It promises to be a great and exciting, even electric event. This is a great time for you and your children to see, hear and meet the next President of the United States.

Please tell all your friends about this rally and take your family. If you have any fence-sitter friends or those who would like to meet Governor Romney, please bring them to this rally. BRING A LOT OF ENTHUSIAMSM.

Matt prank calls his Dad

January 19th, 2008 | 2 Comments | Posted in Fun, Matt Romney, Mischieviousness, Mitt Romney

I caught this over at My Man Mitt. It is absolutely classic. As Jason said, today’s kids won’t get the pleasure of prank calling like those of other generations due to the “darn” technology of caller ID. I guess that’s a good thing! :)

Here’s the video, I laughed so hard when I saw it…I can only imagine the fun they had in that house. Poor Ann :)

Welcoming myself–live from Urbandale!

Welcome to me, the latest addition to the ElectRomneyIn2008.com blogger staff. My name is Paul Johnson and this is my first posting. I have some good tidbits for you live from Urbandale, IA, one of Mitt Romney’s volunteer campaign sites.

First a bit about me: I’m a corporate lawyer by trade, trained at BYU both undergrad (dual major in English and Business) and grad school (JD/MBA). I started my career in the internet boom in Palo Alto, CA in ‘96, transferred with my then-current firm to San Diego in ‘99, and have stayed in San Diego since. I specialize in corporate financings and in mergers and acquisitions.

My intro to Mitt Romney was, like many, through hearing about the debacle that was unfolding at the 2002 Salt Lake Winter Olympics. As someone who spent a lot of time in Utah, I didn’t want the state or our country to be embarrassed by the event. I heard someone named Mitt Romney, a very successful business person with Bain, was being put in charge, and not long after was hearing things were turning around. Of course September 11 intervened and the Olympics staff had to respond to an entirely unforeseen security threat in just a few months’ time. I myself was going to be attending the event with my 3 sons, so security was a concern for me. When I arrived, security was tight and the event unbelievably well-organized.

Next I heard about the Miracle in Massachusetts, how the same Mitt Romney, a republican, had somehow been elected to be governor of a deep blue state. Another good impression. I knew this person must have cross-party appeal. More good news followed as Mitt was able to balance MA’s budget, then actually adopt a healthcare plan tailored for the state. Then I hear about the MA Supreme Court’s decision (described here by CNN). CNN said at the time: “Massachusetts’ governor immediately denounced Tuesday’s decision and said he would work for a constitutional amendment to overturn it,” and I was glad to know we had a resourceful man of integrity at the forefront of this issue.

More good impressions followed. A few years ago Matt Romney, Mitt’s son, moved into my neighborhood (see Matt’s musings at the Five Brothers Blog). Matt and I ended up on some volunteer assignments together. I’d told Matt I was a baseball fan, so he invited me at one point to a game with him, his brother, Tagg and a few other friends. I came to find out as well that another friend, Jim Davies, was Ann Romney’s brother. When it began to be rumored Mitt might run for president, I told Matt if his dad ran, I’d be interested in pitching in. Soon I was attending events in San Diego and contributing to the campaign, a first for me. A couple weeks ago I began responding to some bitter and biased posts about Mitt, his family and his religion, some things I knew a little about first-hand, by some readers of The Politico (a site I otherwise enjoy) and other political websites. Now I find myself in Urbandale doing my first blog post!

I’ll get to where I agree with Mitt on policy issues in future posts, but for now here are some snapshots from one of the command centers.

A visit from Ann Romney

The troops got encouragement from Ann Romney just before lunch. She met with volunteers and gave her pitch for her husband as a man capable of addressing our country’s complex issues.

Here’s the view from the cheap seats!

Visits from the Press

Yesterday we had a visit from CNN. Today the folks from Salt Lake’s KSL TV and Salt Lake’s CBS affiliate were here, as was RAI from Italy. Jim Davies gave an interview in fluent Italian. It’s been great to be at ground zero at such an influential time in American politics. Channel 24 from Argentina is just going through now. Wish you were here, where we hope to be a part of electing the next president of the U.S. More to come…

Mitt on the Stump - with a Chainsaw!

November 27th, 2007 | 3 Comments | Posted in California, Matt Romney, Mitt Romney

Here is a story of human interest. It involves Governor Romney recently helping out in Southern California neighborhood after the wildfires. What it does not involve are any local or national media, pomp or trumpets, signs or announcements.

An unidentified man records in his journal (he has four photos) of arriving at his home and finding Matt Romney, along with his father, Mitt Romney (and others) removing a tree stump from their front yard with a chainsaw.

Excerpt:

There were no local news media. Mitt and Matt Romney were just being good neighbors helping neighbors. Mitt was in Southern Calif for some meetings later in the day up in Riverside/San Bernardino. I can really tell that the Romney’s know how to work and to work really hard. I looked over my shovel at one point and sweat was running down Mitt’s face. When I suggested we stop for a breakfast burrito, I got a polite ‘maybe later, gotta get this root out.”

Click here to read the whole account. It is very interesting. There are also four images of them at work, click on them to view the large full-size image.

Here is one of the thumbnails with his hair all sussed:

BTW: I found this story via PlanetRomney.org, which had a post from Lawyers Students for Romney, which linked to the original story at Confessions of a Political Junkie - and now it’s here on this site for you. Interesting how stories travel around on the internet.

Donate to the Red Cross to aid those affected by the Southern California Wildfires

The American Red Cross

Matt Romney posted some pretty scary fire pictures at the Five Brother’s Blog, and is encouraging people to giving to The American Red Cross so we’re following suit here at Elect Romney in 2008.

We as Americans always come together in times of crisis and help one another, lets show the victims of this tragedy just how big our hearts are by giving.

Thoughts and Prayers Go Out To Matt Romney and Family

According to CNN’s Political Ticker:

Matt Romney and Fam are apparently stuck in a hotel room and have been for the past three days due to being evacuated because of the massive California wildfires. We here at Elect Romney in 2008 wish Matt and his family well, and hope and pray that his family’s home will continue to be protected from the fires.

Update from reader Patti Spencer:

Matt & family aren’t the only family members affected. Also evacuated are Mrs. Romney’s brother Jim, Jim’s daughter Rachel and her family, and other extended family members. These fires are affecting milllions of people here in Southern California. The air quality is terrible, and many schools are closed.

We definitely send out our prayers to Mrs. Romney’s brother Jim and his family as well. Jim is a great guy whom I met in Boston in June at the “America’s Calling Fundraiser”. I’ve also emailed him over the course of this blog’s existence.

Here is an image that she sent me of Lake Mission Viejo about a mile from her home.
