Murtha Lied, Obama Sighed

It’s stories like the one below that make me a Republican. Even with all our faults, we don’t come close to the level of hypocrisy that the Democratic Party achieves on a regular basis.

The disgraceful hounding of eight Marines, serving their country under life and death circumstances, by the craven Congressman Murtha, as a purely partisan political ploy in the 2006 election, is another reason why I will NEVER vote for a Democrat.

Any party that will sink this low to keep their shameful and now disgraced organization in power, deserves the unmitigated contempt of the American electorate.

Justice: The latest Haditha Marine to be exonerated is considering suing Rep. John Murtha for calling him a cold-blooded killer. Will Barack Obama be a character witness for saying Murtha knows his stuff?

If you hadn’t heard, Lt. Col. Jeffrey Chessani is the seventh of the Haditha 8 to either be acquitted or have charges dismissed regarding the deaths of civilians in the town of Haditha, Iraq, on Nov. 19, 2005.

Mainstream media and liberal Democrats, if that’s not redundant, are more preoccupied these days with protecting the rights of terrorists, even Osama bin Laden, to habeas corpus and other rights of U.S. citizens they were trying to kill. That has replaced Abu Ghraib and Gitmo as their cause celebre.

Now that Haditha hasn’t turned out to be the Iraqi My Lai they hoped for, they have no time for the innocent Marines, either to comment or apologize. The Los Angeles Times, during a slow period in the barrage of charges, asked in a headline, “Whatever Happened To The Iraqi My Lai?”

Well, the crime never happened, the guilty were found innocent and the lynch mobs dispersed.

Only One Choice in Face of Nuclear Terror

I just came across this brief editorial by one of my favorite writers, the immensely talented Dr. Thomas Sowell. What he had to say was grim…….and timely. If you have been following the fighting between Israel and Iranian-backed Hezbollah, you know that Iran has no scruples about giving missiles and other armaments to people who use them against innocent civilians. We also know that our military personnel in Iraq are being killed and maimed by IED’s provided by Iran.

So, it should come as no surprise that the Mullahs of Iran will with hold no good thing in their soon to be developed nuclear arsenal from terrorists bent on destroying first Israel and then the United States of America.

Please take the time to read this article so that you will have this information as you prepare to cast your vote in the Presidential elections.

Our one window of opportunity to prevent this will occur within the term of whoever becomes president of the United States in 2009.

At a time like this, we don’t have the luxury of waiting for our ideal candidate or of indulging our emotions by voting for a third party candidate to show our displeasure — at the cost of putting someone in the White House who isn’t up to the job.

Sen. John McCain has been criticized in this column many times. But, when all is said and done, he has not spent decades aiding and abetting people who hate America.

On the contrary, he has paid a huge price for resisting our enemies, even when they held him prisoner and tortured him. The choice between him and Barack Obama should be a no-brainer.

Surge To Victory

By INVESTOR’S BUSINESS DAILY | Posted Tuesday, May 27, 2008 4:20 PM PT

War On Terror: They said the surge would fail. They claimed we had no allies. They called Iraq a quagmire. They sought to cut and run. Now, our victories over terror are accelerating across the world.

I love this quote from the end of the article: IT’S A BAD TIME TO BE A TERRORIST.

New Bedford GOP Endorsement of Jeff Beatty

News from the Jeff Beatty for US Senate from Massachusetts campaign. Below is an official press release from Jeff Beatty’s office.

Please consider helping Jeff Beatty unseat one of the most liberal Democrats in Washington. He stands with us as a Republican who will bring the Iraq war to a successful conclusion and will support border law enforcement as well as being a pro business conservative who wants to cut the tax burden on middle class Americans.

~~John Cronin~~

http://www.jeffbeatty.com/PressReleases/New-Bedford-GOP-Endorseme-25.html

The New Bedford Republican Party is pleased to announce it’s endorsement of US Senate hopeful, Jeff Beatty of Harwich, Massachusetts. Mr. Beatty’s relevant experience and credential have excited grassroots Republicans across the Commonwealth resulting in over 30,000 individual donors and over $1,000,000 raised to support his campaign. Mr. Beatty looks forward to contrasting himself with incumbent Sen. John Kerry (D-MA.) throughout the next months.

Mr. Beatty brings to his candidacy a strong, measurable record of service to the United States and to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Mr. Beatty served with honor as a former US Army Delta Force Officer (wounded in the first Blackhawk Helicopter shot down) and earned a Purple Heart. Mr. Beatty additionally served his country with distinction as an FBI Agent advising the National Hostage Rescue Team and later as a CIA Counter-Terrorism Officer with service in Europe and the Middle East theaters of operation.

Following service to the Commonwealth and to the United States, Mr. Beatty returned to Massachusetts to engage in the private sector and to offer his vast wealth of expertise to help protect American citizens. Mr. Beatty founded and now operates TotalSecurity.US which has helped provide professional consulting and security operations as well as personnel critical to the protection of major American landmarks and mass-transit services: Logan Airport, the MBTA, the Massachusetts Turnpike, the Pentagon, the World Trade Center, USS Constitution, the Statue of Liberty, the SUPERBOWL, the Rose Bowl and the Olympics.

Mr. Beatty has confirmed his commitment to keep our government small and less intrusive, will offer measurable goals to help attract businesses and long-term jobs to our Commonwealth, and has affirmed his willingness to work with all members and generations of our society to help honor the sacrifices made in Iraq and Afghanistan by revisiting simple, stated political and military methods to restore lasting security and a reinstated civil society to those affected regions. In step with the New Bedford Republican Party, Mr. Jeff Beatty is an admirer and friend to all legal immigrants and entrepreneurs who come to our great nation to value the promise of political and financial freedom. Mr. Beatty strongly believes that we should honor and respect those citizens who have come to the United States legally and loyally.

With so much at stake in 2008, the opportunity to support a candidate like Jeff Beatty is enhanced by the true merits of his exceptional relevant experience, background and personality. Support and commitment to Mr. Jeff Beatty and campaign reflects not only a strong, engaging confidence in our ability to elect a deserving Republican to national office, but also suggests a reflection of confidence in ourselves as critical participants of a vast grassroots Republican movement.

The New Bedford Republican Party voted unanimously on April 15, 2008 to publicly and officially endorse Mr. Jeff Beatty for US Senate.

McCain Has a Timetable for Withdrawing U.S. Troops from Iraq!

As you all know, Sen. McCain delivered a major speech on Thursday, May 15, where he outlined his TIMETABLE FOR THE WITHDRAWAL OF U.S. TROOPS FROM IRAQ!

This is the same man who used that very point to attack Mitt Romney during the last days of the Florida primary! Wait, I’m confused. Timetables for an Iraq withdrawal are bad, right? No, now they’re good.

McCain said that Gov. Romney should not have taken a nuanced approach to timetables in a debate question when he said that their should be private timetables used to gauge the Iraqi government’s progress toward certain benchmarks. He (Romney) said he would not be in favor of publicly releasing any timetables that could be used to the advantage of the insurgents. I thought that was an intelligent response to a complicated set of problems and the correct policy approach.

Sen. McCain had different ideas back then. After all that was three months ago. He lectured Gov. Romney that his response should have been “No.” McCain’s current answer is “Yes.”

Unbelievable folks, just unbelievable. Not only does McCain have timetables, but he delivers them in a major speech that traveled around the world within minutes of it’s conclusion. All Al Queda has to do now is lay low for four years, use the time to recruit and train new thugs, raise money to buy ammunition and IED’s from Iran and get ready for the “big push” in 2013.

Big Promotion Set for Gen. Petraeus

Good news coming out of the Pentagon. Gen. Petraeus is set to become the new head of our
military operations for the Middle East and Central Asia. Congratulations to a very fine commander who has saved American and Iraqi lives by taking the fight to the Jihadiis.

Now let’s go get Muqtada al Sadr!

By THOM SHANKER

WASHINGTON — Under a plan announced at the Pentagon on Wednesday, the two commanders most closely associated with President Bush’s current strategy in Iraq would be elevated into new posts with responsibilities extending into the next administration over the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Gen. David H. Petraeus would take charge of all military affairs across the Middle East and Central Asia, and would be succeeded as the senior commander in Iraq by Lt. Gen. Raymond T. Odierno, who returned to Washington in February after serving 15 months as General Petraeus’s deputy.

Asked whether the planned nominations by Mr. Bush were a sign that American policy was to “stay the course” in Iraq, Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates said that the security gains that had been achieved under General Petraeus’s command meant that “staying that course is not a bad idea.”

Postive News Out of Iraq from Angelina Jolie

This definitely falls into the “Conservative File”. HT: To the hubby

Normally when you hear about anything from Hollywood and the Iraq war it’s all negative, but this positive story written by Angelina Jolie bucks that trend. What great news!

From the story:

My visit left me even more deeply convinced that we not only have a moral obligation to help displaced Iraqi families, but also a serious, long-term, national security interest in ending this crisis.

Today’s humanitarian crisis in Iraq — and the potential consequences for our national security — are great. Can the United States afford to gamble that 4 million or more poor and displaced people, in the heart of Middle East, won’t explode in violent desperation, sending the whole region into further disorder?

What we cannot afford, in my view, is to squander the progress that has been made. In fact, we should step up our financial and material assistance. UNHCR has appealed for $261 million this year to provide for refugees and internally displaced persons. That is not a small amount of money — but it is less than the U.S. spends each day to fight the war in Iraq. I would like to call on each of the presidential candidates and congressional leaders to announce a comprehensive refugee plan with a specific timeline and budget as part of their Iraq strategy.

As for the question of whether the surge is working, I can only state what I witnessed: U.N. staff and those of non-governmental organizations seem to feel they have the right set of circumstances to attempt to scale up their programs. And when I asked the troops if they wanted to go home as soon as possible, they said that they miss home but feel invested in Iraq. They have lost many friends and want to be a part of the humanitarian progress they now feel is possible.

It seems to me that now is the moment to address the humanitarian side of this situation. Without the right support, we could miss an opportunity to do some of the good we always stated we intended to do.

Clinton was wrong in dismantling the military. What should we do now?

I’m not trying to say that if Clinton had been president after 9-11, that he would have gone into Iraq. Clinton did say that; “Saddam must not be allowed to threaten his neighbors or the world with nuclear arms, poison gas or biological weapons”. And Clinton actually did go into Iraq in “Operation Desert Fox”, saying; “Earlier today I ordered America’s armed forces to strike military and security targets in Iraq. They are joined by British forces. Their mission is to attack Iraq’s nuclear, chemical and biological weapons programs and its military capacity to threaten its neighbors,”Clinton also stated that, while other countries also had weapons of mass destruction, Hussein is in a different category because he has used such weapons against his own people and against his neighbors. Click here for more. But I’m not trying to say that Clinton would have gone into Iraq in the way that “W” did. I’m just trying to say that now we know that: The Clinton Administration was wrong to dismantle the military.Reasons to agree:

  1. Clinton decreased military personnel by 500,000.
  2. Clinton decreased military spending by about $50 billion a year.
  3. Under Clinton the U.S. Army lost four active divisions.
  4. Under Clinton the U.S. Army lost two reserve divisions.
  5. Under Clinton the U.S. Navy lost almost 80 ships.
  6. Under Clinton the U.S. Air Force saw its active personnel decrease by 30 percent.
  7. Under Clinton the Marines’ personnel dropped by 22,000.
  8. We need more troops than we have in order to win a war in Iraq and Afghanistan. That is about the size of Military that we should have. Weather Bush 1, Clinton, or Bush 2 were right or wrong in their actions in Iraq, we need to have the capacity to win the war that Bush 2 tried to fight. It was wrong for the Clinton administration to dismantle the military.
