Drumbeat for Romney for VP Grows Louder

Brief article over at HOT AIR touts Mitt Romney for the vice presidential slot.
The article talks about the strength that Romney would bring to the ticket because of his mastery of business and economics. If Mitt is not picked for VP, I think this is what needs to happen.

The McCain campaign needs to send a message to conservatives, IMHO, in two areas of vital importance, or they will not be pleased with the results they get at at the ballot box in November.

1. We need an iron-clad promise to secure our borders and to enforce the existing laws on immigration.

2. We need a comprehensive economic policy that includes making the Bush tax cuts permanent, killing the death tax, balancing the budget and moving to reform the bloated entitlement spending that threatens to bankrupt this country.

Failing to accomplish this, the feckless leadership we have been getting from the Republican Party at the national level, will usher in eight bleak years of Democratic rule.

I know I am repeating myself, but I will say it again. Unless grassroots Republicans rise up and retake this party in order to guide it back toward the conservative principles that made the Party and the country great, we are going to lose this election. If there isn’t two cents worth of difference between the Democrat’s platform and the Republican’s platform, who cares which party wins? Obviously the career politicians do, but I am talking about the voters who have to pay for all of this.

We are not getting our money’s worth!

The economy will present a critical test for McCain. He has worked on building economic chops, and his campaign has notable assistance in this area from Steve Forbes and even Mitt Romney. Obama’s stumble on capital-gains tax increases could help narrow this gap, but thus far the McCain campaign hasn’t offered any focus on that gaffe from the April 16th debate.
McCain could use a well-recognized hand on economics as a running mate. I’ve suggested that Romney could fill that role, although Allahpundit has been less enthusiastic. Romney did a great job with fundraising in 2007 and could help fill a critical gap there as well. Now that Jeremiah Wright has managed to splatter himself all over Obama, not too many people would worry about Mormons in the general election. Mormons aren’t known for asking that God damn America or promulgating weird conspiracy theories about HIV and government-sponsored genocides. Wright’s demagoguery has taken the Mormon issue off the table, if Obama wins the nomination.

Mitt forming a PAC to help elect Republicans

The next incarnation of Mitt Romney’s political career is taking shape.

According to two Republicans with knowledge of his plans, Romney, at some point during the next few weeks, intends to establish a new political action committee to help elect Republican candidates.

“We’re thinking about what new entity can be created to allow Governor Romney to remain politically active so he can raise money and campaign for Republicans, and advocate for the issues he cares about,” Eric Fehnrstrom, Romney’s long-time aide, said in an e-mail message.

You can also expect Governor Romney to be very busy in the remainder of this year campaigning for Republican candidates up and down the ticket, starting at the top with Senator McCain.”

Fehrnstom would not elaborate.

Other Republicans close to Romney said that Romney was looking for ways to position himself as the ideas factory for the Republican party over the next four years, contributing policy to John McCain, if he’s in the White House, or to Republicans in Congress, if McCain is not.

I don’t think it’s set up yet, but if anybody finds out to the contrary, please leave a comment. Mitt can count on me for a donation.

“Ideas factory”…I love it.

Huckabee: The Constitution is a “Living, breathing document”

Is anybody in the MSM going to call Huckabee on this stuff? (H/T: Hotair)

You can click through the link to get the whole story, but the gist of it is that Huckabee is using the classic liberal “living, breathing document” arguement to justify his statement the other day about how we need to change the Constitution to fit with “God’s standards.”

Okay, all of this stuff is ridiculous…but the icing on the cake is that Huck’s own website states “I firmly believe that the Constitution must be interpreted according to its original meaning, and flatly reject the notion of a “living Constitution.”

Who’s the real flip-flopper?

Rush Limbaugh on Huckabee’s use of “Identity politics”

Listen to the attitude that this Huck supporter tries to pull on El Rushbo. It’s quite comical.

Huckabee: People keep coming up to me and quoting Isaiah 54

December 20th, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in Christians, HOTAIR, Mike Huckabee

Once again, Huckabee overtly attempts to use his religion to justify his run for the nomination.

Posted by Allahpundit at HOTAIR.com:

Verse 17 to be exact, God’s assurance to his followers that the weapons of the enemies of the righteous won’t defeat them. Good stuff. He’s been cultivating this mindset with his “us against them” garbage aimed at Christians, most tellingly when he said to the Times, referring to evangelical leaders’ failure to endorse him, “If my own abandon me on the battlefield, it will have a chilling effect.” Religion, war imagery, and identity politics: quite a combination. To quote Barnett, “The bottom line rationale for his candidacy is frighteningly close to that of a Jesse Jackson campaign. Addressing a sliver of the electorate, Huckabee in essence says, ‘Vote for me because I’m one of you.’”

Thankfully, not all Baptists are buying it. Click the image to watch.

Update: Frank Gaffney, whom Huck claims influences his thinking on foreign policy, doesn’t think much of his foreign policy.
