News from Dr. Bob Onder’s campaign office shows a growing list of influential Missouri leaders have endorsed his candidacy. His first quarter fund raising shows some financial firepower as well.

While the national press is ringing the death knell for the Republican Party in this election, it seems the good citizens of Missouri didn’t get the memo.

Jefferson City – Representative Bob Onder today announced the support of twenty-two current and two former state elected officials in his bid to represent the people of the Ninth District.

Dr. Onder’s announcement comes shortly after winning the first-quarter fundraising race against
all other candidates to replace Representative Kenny Hulshof when he raised over $370,000,
more than any other candidate in the race regardless of party affiliation.

“As I prepare to bring my prescription for change to Washington, I am honored to have the
support of so many conservative leaders in the 9th District and around our great state,” said Dr. Onder. “These leaders understand what it takes to defend our freedoms and fight for mainstream Missouri values. I greatly appreciate their support.”

“Dr. Onder has been a leader in the General Assembly from his first day in office,” said House
Republican Majority Floor Leader Steve Tilley. “Simply put, he is a proven winner who gets
things done on the issues that matter most to Missourians. I know he’ll take that same ability to
Washington.”

“I can’t think of anyone more qualified to represent the people of the 9th District than Dr.
Onder,” said Representative Doug Funderburk of St. Peter’s. “His experience as a doctor and
lawyer, and his willingness to fight for the right-to-life and tax relief and to stop illegal
immigration and wasteful spending will serve the people of Missouri well in Washington.”

“From watching him work in the Missouri House, I know that Dr. Onder will stand up for
principle and Missouri values when he gets to Congress,” said Representative Jason Smith of
Crawford County. “He’s just the type of leader we need to fight the liberal excesses of Nancy
Pelosi and the MoveOn.org crowd in Washington.”

Representative Brian Nieves noted that Dr. Onder’s leadership is not restricted to the pro-life
issue. This year, Dr. Onder also sponsored House Bill 1549, an effort to outlaw sanctuary cities
in Missouri and to give local law enforcement the tools they need to stop illegal immigration.
“Last year, I stood side-by-side with Bob Onder when we passed my bill to put English as the
official language on this year’s ballot,” said Representative Brian Nieves of Franklin County.
“This year, I was proud to stand by him as he proposed House Bill 1549. When he gets to
Washington, I know Dr. Onder will fight for effective enforcement of our immigration laws and
against San Francisco-liberal calls for amnesty.”

Dr. Onder has been a leader his entire life, particularly on pro-life issues. After graduating with a
medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis, he opened his own medical practice in
St. Charles. Later, after seeing so many of his physician friends face frivolous lawsuits, he went
to night school to get a law degree at St. Louis University. He is an active member of St. Gianna Catholic Church in St. Charles, and has six children with his wife, Allison. He has served on the boards of Missouri Right to Life, the Catholic Medical Association, and the Center for Bioethics and Culture. In 2006, he led the statewide fight against Amendment 2 as President of
Missourians Against Human Cloning.

I received a comment from a couple of our regular readers, Paulee & Mike, from the great state of Maine. Many of you no doubt remember them from all the fun we had last week when they attended the Maine Republican Convention.

Well it seems that Paulee & Mike have just volunteered to help elect conservative Republicans this fall. Yes!! I have taken the liberty of posting part of their comments that have to do with their decision to get involved with their local Republican organization. I can’t over emphasize how important their decision is. They have now placed themselves elbow to elbow with the movers and shakers of their state’s politics. When the time comes to influence their state’s leadership in favor of Mitt Romney in 2012, they will be in a position to lobby for Romney in a way that no outsider could hope to.

Welcome to the club!! It’s very gratifying to know that the Party’s volunteer ranks are growing. Keep up the good work and we will have an organization in place to help elect Mitt Romney in 2012.

I have always considered myself a Wall Street Journal loyalist and I always will be at heart, but Investor’s Business Daily is coming on strong. Another wonderful piece that should be required reading for the Republican National Committee.

Politics: Some Republicans fret that special-election losses portend disaster for their party this fall. But the most radical Democratic presidential nominee ever is actually a golden opportunity for the GOP to win big.

Ronald Reagan used to say the key to GOP victory was presenting voters with “a banner of bold, unmistakable colors, with no pastel shades.” Now, with Barack Obama as the Republicans’ likely opponent this November, there’s no excuse for pastel.

The fashionable notion is that the silver-tongued Obama will generate a coattail effect helping other Democratic candidates. Therefore, Republicans should be scared stiff and hope for the unlikely nomination of Hillary Clinton. But that’s nonsense.

Can you imagine waking up in Indiana this morning, eating breakfast, maybe walkin’ the ol’ dog, not showering, getting in your car, driving to the local elementary school to vote in the Republican primary — the party that chose its nominee months ago! — signing in, showing your ID, getting into the booth and pulling the lever for Mitt “Willard” Romney? Can you imagine doing that? Can you imagine being that person, and having to live that person’s life every single day?

Can you imagine being the twit who wrote this article? Can you imagine sitting down at the keyboard and producing this drivel day after day?

On a more serious note, the Indiana Primary results reveal the same healthy skepticism that a lot of us on this site have. 23% of Indiana voters cast their ballots for someone other than John McCain.

Senator McCain can not dismiss a voter bloc that substantial. There are obviously deep concerns about the Senator’s conservative credentials. His campaign must resist the temptation to start the leftward drift or face the consequences at the ballot box in November.

Run, Mitt, Run!!

In keeping with my earlier post titled: “Participatory Democracy”, I would like to give everybody a heads up on a former US Delta Force member who is running for John Kerry’s Senate seat in Massachusetts. I know very little about him, but what I do know is impressive. He sounds like the kind of man we would like to see in the Senate.

In my previous post, I said that it is our responsibility to do everything we can to promote the candidacies of conservative Republicans as we head into the general election. We have all seen Gov. Romney doing his part to raise funds for the Party and to help elect a Republican majority. I am writing this to encourage all of our readers and contributors to help play a part in rebuilding the Party as well.

I have included some quotes from Mr. Beatty’s website (referenced below) and he impresses me as the kind of candidate who has the military and national security bona fides to help move the country back from the leftward tilt we have experienced the last several years.

I’m going to get up to speed as quickly as I can on his positions on the issues and I’ll be sharing the information here as quickly as possible. Senate Candidate Jeff Beatty calls John Kerry a Hypocrite

Kerry accuses others of using troops as political props, when he himself has used service men and women to fuel his own ambition in the past.

Boston, March 18—U.S. Senate candidate Jeff Beatty, a Republican, is calling on Democrat John Kerry to match his rhetoric with deeds regarding our troops and veterans. Beatty points to Kerry’s Monday appearance on the Don Imus radio program where the junior Senator criticized the use of our troops as “props” for photographs. Beatty says this yet again provides proof of the Senator’s hypocrisy.

“History is repeating itself,” said Beatty, a former Delta Force officer. “Kerry has a long record of denigrating our armed services and now exploits them for his own political gain.”
On Kerry’s accusations through Imus, Beatty contends that “Kerry continues to use our troops to boost his political fortunes; it is Kerry who has exploited and degraded two generations of veterans—including our troops currently serving on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

VIETNAM GENERATION

Kerry served as spokesman before the “Winter Soldier Investigation,” testifying before the Senate foreign relations committee and recounting the testimonies of alleged atrocities committed by American soldiers:
“They told the stories at times they had personally raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan.” [1]

There was no evidence to substantiate the allegations, yet no charges were ever filed to confirm or contradict his testimony[2]

Kerry exploited unfounded sensational allegations about American service members in order to gain national TV exposure in 1971 and help launch his political career. Today, the North Vietnamese honor Kerry’s role in their victory in their War Museum.

TODAY’S GENERATION

Beatty is adamant that “Kerry voted to send our troops to war in Iraq, because it served his 2004 Presidential ambition,” and that “now, despite urging the President to cut and run from Iraq, Kerry continues to use our troops and our veterans for his own political purposes. He is making the rounds of troops in the field and veteran centers at home posing for photos and using our veterans and troops as “props” in another example of his incredible hypocrisy.”
“In spite of Kerry’s efforts, the hard work of service men and women is prevailing. We are now winning in Iraq,” says Beatty. “Yet Kerry persists in pursuing tactics that weaken our efforts, not strengthen them. Is Kerry going to be honored with another plaque like he was from the North Vietnamese, but this time from Bin Laden and Al Qaeda?” Beatty asks. “It’s time to replace John Kerry with one of us.”

First, I must apologize. Many of you have emailed me asking what you can do to help for Tsunami Tuesday. I have been unable to answer all the emails so I hope you will accept this message as my reply.

Many of you wanted to know where to obtain yard signs, placards, bumper stickers, etc.    I made a few phone calls and I think because every conservative talk show on the planet has been touting Governor Romney this week, the spike in demand exhausted the supply in a few days. You have seen in many of the comments on this blog that people are making get-out-the-vote phone calls. That is the avenue the campaign is asking people to take to really make a difference.

Several people I have discussed this with, that have made the calls, have told me they have been instrumental in influencing others to definitely vote for Governor Romney. Today, a voter called me from a print ad that is running and wanted to know Governor Romney’s position on Israel. She informed me that their son was a first-year student at Annapolis and that she was leaning toward McCain since he is a Naval Academy graduate, etc.   After an enjoyable discussion, in which she determined that McCain’s frequent loss of his temper combined with his rather self-righteous, arrogant disposition, she decided right there she would cast her vote for Gov. Romney.    I still sent her the information on Israel, but she was sold on all the character attributes we know and love of Gov. Romney.

Many who read or write on this blog may feel disheartened by Romney’s “defeat” (actually a strong 2nd) in today’s Florida Primary. Certainly after much hard work by all of us it is only natural to sense some discouragement…somewhat like the wind being knocked out of your sails for a moment. We had expected a victory and we wouldn’t settle for less. As an avid lover of the sea I have noticed that the wind always returns and the sails fill again sending the ship to its intended destination.

Florida was one state out of fifty. Super Tuesday is coming. We cannot let the outcome of Florida betray our enthusiasm. Romney will win the Republican nomination for President of the United States.

Ann Romney brings immediate optimism with her statement, “This is just a send-off point; this is not an end.” I love the excitement she brings to the moment. What a great political partner to have in such a tight and contentious race!

One of the greatest Presidents in our history was an eternal optimist. After many political defeats (and one in particular), Lincoln told his friend Dr. Ray who continued to brood over Lincoln’s defeat, “You will soon feel better. Another blow up is coming; and we shall have fun again.” (Quoted from Team of Rivals)

Lincoln was not discouraged by his defeats…only his friends were. Like them, as we refocus our efforts towards Romney’s eventual nomination, we need to pull the bootstraps tight and start working the trenches just a bit harder. We are fighting for certain principles and for a better America. Each state individually is one stepping stone along the path to ultimate victory. The next contest is coming and it will be fun.

Just like Lincoln, Romney is winning the respect of others, earning their trust and even devotion as he moves along the campaign trail introducing himself to those who barely know him.

Read the following quotes about Lincoln’s strategy for the nomination. I think you will find them similar to Romney’s. These quotes are taken from A Team of Rivals.

As a dark horse, he knew it was important not to reveal his intentions too early, so as to minimize the possibility of opponents mobilizing against him.

It was important that any efforts on his behalf be squelched until the timing was right, and Lincoln, as would be evidenced throughout his presidency was a master of timing.

Not hindered by the hubris, delusions, and inconsistencies that plagued his three chief rivals, Lincoln gained steady ground through a combination of hard work, skill and luck. While his rivals felt compelled to reposition themselves toward the center of the party, Lincoln never changed his basic stance.

Though a successful bid for the nomination remained unlikely, a viable candidacy was no longer an impossible dream. Slowly and methodically, Lincoln set out to improve his long odds.

Most of his audiences had never laid eyes on him.

Once he began speaking he invariably forged an indelible impression, and left an impact on his listeners.

Though sensed by many to be an underdog candidate, Lincoln rose to the top and captured the nomination.

Romney is a master strategist. His focus for the nation is the right one. As we work “slowly and methodically” from state to state bringing the message of change, of fixing a broken Washington, and a re-commitment to time held American family values, I believe that America will listen, and the ‘long odds’ of success will be realized as we witness Romney place his hand on the Bible and swear and oath of duty as our next President.

How do you defend against attacks that are purely dishonest? Barack Obama had to struggle with that issue last week when the Clinton machine went after him. Perhaps we can take solace in his resounding win in the Democratic contest that took place yesterday. But I believe the short answer to that question is: control the message (i.e., change the subject).

Readers here know what McCain said about Mitt’s comments weren’t true. I’d seen the clip McCain was referring to weeks ago, and there was nothing in there about Mitt proposing or supporting a timetable for withdrawal: it was about whether there may be a Bush administration timetable and how if there was one it was important not to share any such timetable with our enemies. So why the manipulation of the facts by McCain? As others have said here, it’s likely that he’s seen his lead slip in Florida and felt he needed to do something to change the subject. So let’s change it back.

Unfortunately, as Senator McCain likes to say when he’s not the source of the attack, “you don’t mud wrestle with a pig, because you both get dirty and the pig likes it.” Of course it’s quite hyporcritical for McCain to be doing what he did today (e.g., abandoning “straight talk” and his “principles,” going negative, criticizing Mitt for a position McCain endorsed, etc.). But it’s apparent a discussion of any topic but the economy would be an improvement for him.

So let’s remind ourselves of what Mitt’s message is:

1. Washington is broken. Nothing serves as better evidence of this than McCain’s recent attacks. If we want more of the same we can send the same sorts of people back to Washington. McCain has been there 24 years; now he wants to be President. If we obliged, it’s hard for me to see how things would change, in particular given McCain’s legendary inability to work well with others in the Senate and the vendettas / back room favors he’ll owe if he goes back.

2. The economy needs Mitt. Since the days of Clinton and before, it’s always been about the economy. You can’t have a strong national defense if we dont have manufacturing and a strong economy at home. You can’t be a strong nation if you have to buy all your equipment from your enemies. And the American economy won’t be strong if we can’t keep the jobs from flowing out to our overseas competitors. So we need to send someone to Washington who has an intimate knowledge of the economy and can fix the many manifestations of problems we’ve had recently: stock market crashes, surging oil prices, real estate collapse, mortgage melt down, etc. Unfortunately, John McCain does not have the requisite experience, and has repeatedly said he’d have to find someone else to help him with this issue. McCain didn’t support the Bush tax cuts, then he did. Then he said he wanted to cut government spending to stimulate the economy. Unfortunately in the short run cutting spending would harm the economy and make it more likely to push the country into recession, or at least offset the benefits of any tax rebates. Unfortunately, as he’s said himself, he just doesn’t know enough about economics.

3. Mitt stands for strong families, and he wants to appoint judges to the Supreme Court that will read the Constitution as the framers intended it, not in a manner that creates new laws without a democratic process. Not all the other candidates have this same priority. McCain in fact has gone up against his own party on the issue of judges being appointed, and has a very spotty record on issues of family values.

4. Mitt stands for legal immigration, but “turning off the magnet” on illegal immigration. McCain very recently proposed a bill that would have allowed illegal aliens to stay in the country indefinitely. His own party rejected this stance only a few months ago, but he seems ill-at-ease saying he was wrong.

We’ve got lots of positive parts of our own message to spread without getting distracted by McCain’s attack. I’m positive that staying on message will benefit Mitt incredibly (as it’s done in Florida so far), while indulging in mud wrestling allows the media to just report on the wrestling match. I’m hoping that the media really gives it to McCain today for his intentional misrepresentations, but even if they don’t, let’s keep on task and keep spreading our own message.
