2007 Best of the Blogroll

January 10th, 2008 | Comments Off | Posted in 2008 Election, Blogroll, Mitt Romney, Netroots, New Media

Flag Waving

Before the end of the year, I sent an email to all the Romney bloggers (outside the campaign, unpaid) asking them to submit to me a post they deemed one of their best of 2007. There were no conditions except that they be supportive of Governor Romney in some way.

Due to the holidays and the fact that many people are really busy, I did not receive submissions from dozens of other very talented bloggers. These are not in any particular order. The only two that were not submitted to me were the last two by Mitchell and Laub. I selected those two. If you have not bookmarked these sites already as “FAVORITES”, you may want to do so:

Ann Marie Curling — Lessons of the Father a Romney Family History

Jason Bonham — RedState — 35 Comments

Red Girl in a Blue State — FreeRepublic — Go to Comment #38 to read her post (it begins: “To Psalm 73″)

Steven Swint — Dry Fly Politics — 11 Comments

Havilah Lyon — Vote Mitt for President

William Smith — Conservative Blogger

John Cronin — Elect Romney in 2008

David Kim — The Principal Chair (David also blogs for Elect Romney in 2008)

David Tyler — Reagan Quotes

Kirk Barrus — Californians for Romney

Jeff Fuller — Iowans for Romney

Steve Tylicki — MyManMitt

Charles Mitchell — Evangelicals for Mitt

Mike Laub — The Encyclopedia Mittanica (be sure to follow this post to the end)

THANK YOU to all those who replied to my request to submit your best!

Iowa Blog Round-Up . . . “Iowa Action Center” updated

December 1st, 2007 | 3 Comments | Posted in Blogroll, F. Thompson, Iowa, Mike Huckabee, Rudy Giuliani

Check out the Iowa blog Round up post over at Iowans for Romney

I’ve re-done the right side blog-roll (AGAIN) to make the key Iowa sites more prominent. The two sub-headings that have “IOWA ACTION CENTER!!” are the most important or well-trafficked blogs.

Iowas for Romney Blogroll Updated (and online Iowa polls)

November 27th, 2007 | 1 Comment | Posted in Blogroll, Iowa

I’ve updated the “Iowa Blogroll” in the right sidebar at Iowans for Romney and have included a lot more of the best state blogs (including a few lefty sites for fun). I also have a section linking to some blogs or column features of major Iowa news outlets where lots of comments are often generated. Vic Lundquist encouraged me to do this and recommended increasing activity over at my site in this ElectRomneyIn2008 post.

Also, I feel a little like a Ronulan (my favorite nickname for Ron Paul supporters . . . and no, I’m not a total Star Trek nerd) doing this, but there are some online polls at a few Iowa based blogsites that Romney could win with a little boost.

Polls:
The Real Sporer (left sidebar)
Cyclone Conservatives (right sidebar)
Iowa Collegiate Republicans (right sidebar)

Update: My “A vote for Huckabee is a vote for Rudy” post has started to attract some attention. Chris at The Mason Conservative said he agreed with “every word of it.” New Romney supporter who is a RedState Contributor Leon Wolfe linked to it in the “RedHot” section at RedState with the lead-in “I agree with this absolutely”.

Prominent Blogger Ace of Spades HQ Gives Romney a 2nd Look

Influential blogger (like over 17 million total hits to his site) Ace of Spades HQ is re-assessing the GOP field and is leaning towards Romney and it seems to be Huck’s surge that is leading him there.

Huckabee Has Changed The Whole Race

Obviously, from the standpoint of support for Mike Huckabee, as Drew noted below.

But it’s got me thinking too.

Not that I would support Mike Huckabee — indeed, this is the only first-tier candidate I now find it difficult to support — but it changes my own political math.

If Giuliani is too divisive a figure for the GOP base — and if so, it’s his own damn fault I must say; he could have easily tacked enough to the right to appease social cons — then I guess I need to find an alternative to Huckabee.

I like Giuliani but not enough to split the base over him.

Thompson seems to be a natural alternative — or at least he seemed that way, before he actually began campaigning. He’s in the mix, I suppose, but I’m not thinking he can win.

Which leaves me pondering a candidate I’ve never really gotten behind, except to say he’s perfectly acceptable to me — Mitt Romney.

Mitt Romney has his own problems with the social cons. His religion offends many, and his new improved positions on hot button social issues have the stink of opportunism still wafting over them. But I believe he’s credible on these issues, if only because he’s now made a fairly unbreakable promise on them.

He’s a smart guy. He lacks Giuliani’s charisma and ease and command in speaking, but he’s not bad either. He has tremendous executive experience. And he has… oh, what the hell, Hugh Hewitt’s blog.

Second look time for Romney, at least for me. I think Huckabee would be a disaster in the general election. An easy manner only gets you so far.

I think many so cons are realizing that Romney is the only so con candidate that can take on and beat Rudy and also go on to win the general election. This new coalescence around him on top of his current base of supporters will be a force to be reckoned with.

New to Romney? Ridding America of Religious Bigotry

I am constantly surprised by how many current and long-time supporters of Governor Romney are completely unaware of two really great websites promoting his candidacy for President of the United States. Don’t get me wrong, please. There are many truly incredible, even awesome blog sites promoting Mitt Romney and I occasionally hi-light them here. These two certainly qualify as “awesome” in my book. I think these two sites are a “must read” each day and I hope you will bookmark them for daily consumption. Both of these sites will be important to follow as Governor Romney works hard to meet the good folks of South Carolina and other Southern states with large numbers of Evangelical Christians.

Might I suggest taking a few minutes to read Why we Support Mitt (Evangelicals for Mitt) and About Article6Blog (Article VI Blog). And one of the great things about Evangelicals for Mitt is that some of their writers are from Tennessee, right in the heart of FredHead country and they opine often to contrast Mitt to Fred.

Both of these sites take a very intellectual approach in their arguments in favor of Governor Romney over all other Republican candidates and both are strong advocates. Please pass the word to your friends, associates, and family members to follow the messages of these great sites. In the last six plus months, I have learned a great deal by the hard working writers of these sites.

EVANGELICALS FOR MITT

ARTICLE VI BLOG

NOTE: As I write this post, news reports indicate that three mine rescuers in Huntington, Utah have died from injuries in their attempts to save others trapped. I request the support of readers here to pray for the families of these men as well as for the others who are injured and for others who likely will try again to save others at great personal risk. My thoughts and prayers are with all those involved in this tragic event.

“Double Standards — Staggering”

Okay, in case you are wondering, I do not own stock in Evangelicals for Mitt. I realize that I have linked to a few of their posts more than usual lately, but I try really hard to only refer to content that is extraordinary and of a level of high excellence.

The post I just read by co-founder David French meets that standard — for me anyway. I hope you will take the two minutes out to read David’s thoughts on a most important topic related to Governor Mitt Romney. So many people are putting in long, volunteer hours to promote the candidacy of Mitt Romney and I think the service performed by Evangelicals for Mitt is incaculable.
