Volunteer Sign-Up: Please Post in Comments Section

July 28th, 2009 | 3 Comments | Posted in 2010 Election, Announcements, Blogs, Chat

WE WILL BE LIVE BLOGGING AT WWW.COMMITTEDTOROMNEY.COM THIS THURSDAY, JULY 30 @ 9 PM CENTRAL……VOLUNTEER CHAT/SIGNUP….BE A PART OF 50 STATE PODCAST EFFORT!!

We are looking for volunteers who are willing to research political bloggers in their home and surrounding states in order in collect their email addresses. Craig Edwards, who produces the podcast for both the Committed to Romney and for the Solid Principles sites, will then contact them to see if they are willing to be interviewed for the www.solidprinciples.com podcast.

We are interested in getting their takes on the upcoming 2010 mid term elections and since this is such an ambitious project, involving most if not all 50 states, we will have to slice the task up like a salami, with each volunteer taking on one or two smaller states and with several volunteers taking a big state like California, New York and Texas.

Since these local bloggers know there candidates and incumbents better than Craig and I ever could through any research we might do, we feel this method will produce the most accurate analysis of state wide and Congressional races.

We also hope to bring attention to this critical election, because as you well know, the stakes are high. I honestly question this country’s future if we continue on the path we are on for another 3 1/2 years.

So, use the comments section of this post to volunteer, or you can also sign up at the CommittedtoRomney.Net social networking site. Paulee has stepped up to the plate on the .Net side of the blog and will have a post up there as well.

Thanks in advance for everything you do to advance the conservative cause.

Mitt - It’s All About Us, McCain - It’s All About Me; Comparison of Announcement Speeches

I had a thought today to go back and compare the Presidential Announcement speeches of both Mitt and McCain.  I thought it would be interesting to see how well defined their focus was almost a year ago (Mitt announced in February, McCain in April), and how their campaigns have evolved since then.  It would be interesting to hear what differences you notice between the two speeches, and any discrepancies you see between what each candidate was saying then versus now.

For me, the obvious difference was how much broader Mitt’s vision was (and is), compared to McCain’s.  Notice as you read through them, that McCain mentions absolutely nothing about families, while Mitt’s speech is abundant in references to his family and the need to strenghthen America’s families.  Next, as you scroll down Mitt’s speech, especially towards the end, there are a lot of “we’s” and us’s” throughout.  Scrolling through McMe’s speech, there are a lot of “I’s” and “me’s.”  The very last sentence is actually very indicative of McCain’s whole approach to the Presidency:

I’m running for President of the United States, a blessed country, a proud country, a hopeful country, the most powerful and prosperous country and the greatest force for good on earth. And when I’m President, I intend to keep it so.”

Contrast this with Mitt’s last statement:

With freedom, nothing can hold us back.

“Freedom has made the American dream possible.  Freedom will make the new American dream possible.  And with the work, sacrifice, and greatness of spirit of the American people, freedom has made America - and will keep America - the greatest nation on earth. God bless The United States of America.”

I’ve been frustrated over the past 6 months or so with conservatives complaining that there is no true Reagan conservative in the race - no one upholding the 3-legged stool that Reagan advocated.   Mitt has been putting forth this conservative message all along, beginning with his speech:

At this critical time, we must first transform the role we play in the world [i.e. strong military], secondly strengthen our nation [strong economy], and third build a brighter future for the American family [strong families].

So my question to the conservative pundits is - where have you guys been?  Letting the MSM do your homework and thinking for you, without even bothering to check something as basic as the candidate’s announcement speeches to see what platform they are really running on.  Let’s hope the recent wave of endorsements, while positive and welcome, aren’t too little too late!

Mitt’s speech is excellent, McCain’s speech is very telling.  Check them both out and share what you think!

(One last note, I’m not sure about McCain, but I know that Mitt writes most or all of his own speeches, including this one and his Faith in America speech.)

Gov. Blunt, Sen. DeMint And Sen. Gregg To Serve As National Co-Chairs of Romney for President

Governor Matt Blunt (MO), Senator Jim DeMint (SC), and Senator Judd Gregg (NH).

Boston, MA – Today, Governor Mitt Romney named Governor Matt Blunt (R-MO), Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) and Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH) as National Co-Chairs of the Romney for President campaign. As National Co-Chairs, they will serve as key advisers to Governor Romney and his national campaign.

Making today’s announcement, Governor Romney said, “As leaders in their respective states and for our country, these men bring an incredible depth of knowledge and experience to our campaign to build a stronger America with a stronger military, stronger economy and stronger families. In the coming weeks and months, their support will be critical as we mobilize our grassroots effort throughout the nation.”

“Our country faces a new generation of challenges that demand a leader who has the experience to meet those challenges. Whether in the private sector, at the 2002 Winter Olympics or in Massachusetts, Governor Romney has a proven record of leadership and exceptional experience in turning around troubled institutions. Governor Romney is the best candidate to bring real change to Washington,” said Governor Matt Blunt.

A day after making live www.JimDeMint.com, his own re-election web site, Senator Jim DeMint said, “Governor Mitt Romney is the standard-bearer the Republican Party needs in 2008. His message of conservative change will bring our Party and Washington back to our most basic conservative values of fiscal discipline, smaller government and lower taxes. Governor Romney has the record and experience to bring true change to Washington.”

After joining Romney for President on Monday, Senator Gregg said, “Governor Romney has the experience, vision and values to lead our country forward. In the toughest places, he has made the toughest decisions. He has a clear conservative vision for a stronger America. As a Co-Chair of his national campaign, I look forward to working with Governor Romney as this election heads into the next critical months.”

“Mr. Macaca” joins team Fred…

Jonathan Martin

From: Jonathan Martin at The Politico

Fred Thompson’s campaign will announce this morning their “National Campaign Leadership Team.”

Among the four chairs — former Sen. George Allen (Va.).

If you needed reminding, George Allen doomed his own Presidential bid (and in the process, gave his seat in the senate to the Dems) while running for re-election by calling a volunteer of his opponent Jim Webb “Macaca”.

From The Washington Post

At a campaign rally in southwest Virginia on Friday, Allen repeatedly called a volunteer for Democrat James Webb “macaca.” During the speech in Breaks, near the Kentucky border, Allen began by saying that he was “going to run this campaign on positive, constructive ideas” and then pointed at S.R. Sidarth in the crowd.

“This fellow here, over here with the yellow shirt, macaca, or whatever his name is. He’s with my opponent. He’s following us around everywhere. And it’s just great,” Allen said, as his supporters began to laugh. After saying that Webb was raising money in California with a “bunch of Hollywood movie moguls,” Allen said, “Let’s give a welcome to macaca, here. Welcome to America and the real world of Virginia.” Allen then began talking about the “war on terror.”

Depending on how it is spelled, the word macaca could mean either a monkey that inhabits the Eastern Hemisphere or a town in South Africa. In some European cultures, macaca is also considered a racial slur against African immigrants, according to several Web sites that track ethnic slurs.

Here’s the YouTube

Justin Hart over at My Man Mitt, wrote a piece about Republicans attacking each other that referenced this blog post…and I’m attaching my response to this post and the reason why I brought this subject up in the first place!

The way I look at it on the “Mr. Macaca” post, is that had Allen just said that he was FOR Fred I wouldn’t have said a thing. But, Fred appointed him to his National Leadership Team. That means that he trusts him to lead his campaign in that capacity and shows character.

In the same sense that Governor Romney wants to clean house among Republicans in the fiscal sense. We also need to clean house in the moral sense as well.

Allen made the comment from his own mouth, and smiled while he did it. Sure, he lost his seat (and in turn lost the seat for the party too keep in mind). But, I think it’s way too soon to be seeing him on the National scene again. By allowing him to do so, we show as a party just how “insensitive” that we’re repeatedly characterized as.

Also, please check out the comments to the original Jonathan Martin piece first referenced in this post…sure some are probably from liberals, but I contend that plenty are from republicans too…

Here they are!

Strategic Chicken

I enjoyed Vic’s links below on Mr. Thompson’s entrance in the race. I look forward to having Mr. Thompson in the race finally. My opinion is that he will dilute Giuliani’s South Carolina impact, but who’s counting ;). Mr. Thompson will be a good competitor, but I express my dissatisfaction with his latest ploy at playing chicken. He has played chicken for months now not getting into the competition and letting the ghost of Fred be whatever he will to whoever finds the field lacking. I look forward to listening to his explanations why I should vote for him if he failed 86 out of 90 times to get his bills passed through to law. I’d like to know why he supported McCain-Feingold which helped cripple Republican fundraising along with it’s first amendment issues. I want to see the fire in his eyes and the purpose in his actions, but alas I must wait one more day longer than I should have to.

Fred Thompson is dissing the New Hampshire debates. He will be appearing on Jay Leno, I think, but he will run ads during the debates. What the heck is up with that? There is no reason to miss the NH debates! No Law and Order rerun on Wednesday or FEC rule that keeps him from declaring one day sooner. Missing the debates is a snub to me as a voter. Either he shines as a candidate or not. If the wisdom is that showing up for a debate can only damage his campaign, then what’s going to happen in the next six months? Fred Thompson missing out on the debates is as silly as McCain and Giuliani missing out on Ames. Strategic Chicken? Yes. A loss by default? Yep. It’s a personal snub to Mr. & Mrs. GOP voter and a missed opportunity for the latest candidate.

RALLY FOR ROMNEY

August 22nd, 2007 | 2 Comments | Posted in 2008 Election, Announcements, Fundraising, Mitt Romney

Rally For Romney Banner

From an Official Campaign Press Release:

Boston, MA - Today, Romney for President announced the launch of “Rally for Romney,” a new nationwide grassroots fundraising initiative designed to mobilize and empower volunteers across the country to build support at the grassroots level.

The goal of Rally for Romney is to empower grassroots activists nationwide to reach out to friends and family that are not yet supporting Governor Romney’s campaign and turn them into active supporters.

Rally for Romney recruitment begins today in more than 40 cities, in 20 states, culminating with rallies and Call Days in those cities and states at the end of September.

Rally for Romney eliminates the high-dollar attendance barrier of typical fundraising events and gives supporters the ability to come together and form a “fundraising team.” The team will set a fundraising goal and work together to meet the goal before the Rally in their city. Recruitment for team captains and team members begin today.

Romney for President Finance Director Spencer Zwick said, “Rally for Romney will help us continue to raise the resources we need to compete nationwide, and it also gives people the opportunity to show their support of Governor Romney and his message of conservative change in Washington.”

Romney for President Political Director Carl Forti said, “The launch of Rally for Romney is just the latest effort that Governor Romney’s campaign has undertaken to mobilize and energize supporters in new and innovative ways. Rally for Romney will help us reach out to more voters and engage them in Governor Romney’s campaign at a grassroots level.”

Rally For Romney Online Efforts:

Starting immediately, anyone who wants to show their support for Governor Romney and participate in Rally for Romney can access more information at www.MittRomney.com/Rally.

In the coming weeks, Rally for Romney will also encourage participation through web-based efforts including a live, online “Ask Mitt Anything” with Governor Romney and a “Create Your Own Ad” contest.

Rally For Romney Will Take Place In The Following Locations:

Arizona
- Mesa
- Tucson

California
- Bay Area
- Fresno
- Los Angeles
- Orange County
- Sacramento
- San Diego

Colorado
- Denver

Florida
- Fort Lauderdale
- Orlando
- Plantation
- Space Coast
- Tallahassee

Georgia
- Atlanta

Idaho
- Boise
- Idaho Falls

Illinois
- Chicago

Indiana
- Central
- Northwest
- Northeast
- Southwest
- Southeast

Massachusetts
- Boston

Michigan
- Detroit

Missouri
- St. Louis

Nevada
- Las Vegas

New Mexico
- Albuquerque

New York
- New York City

North Carolina
- Raleigh-Durham

Ohio
- Cincinnati

Oregon
- Portland

Pennsylvania
- Philadelphia

Texas
- Austin
- Dallas
- Houston

Utah
- Salt Lake City

Washington
- Seattle

Washington, D.C.
- Washington, D.C.

Wyoming
- Cheyenne
- Casper
- Jackson Hole

I apologize for copying the complete press release, but I couldn’t find any irrelevant parts to leave out.

For clarification: a Community Captain is someone who commits to raising $1000 by the time of the rally event. The Community Captain may do this alone or by forming a team of up to 5 people to accomplish this. (With a team of 5 that’s only $200 each. That’s like getting 10 people to donate $20, not too hard.)

When you click this link to RSVP, it will ask you which event you would like to attend, and if you don’t already have a fundraiser ID# it will give one to you. I have talked to several people who were perfectly willing to contribute to the campaign but a little wary of signing on as a fundraiser. Usually it was because they didn’t know how to go about raising funds. Let me tell you it is extremely easy. For those of you who have contributed and have not yet become fundraisers yourselves it’s time to step up your level of commitment. Becoming a fundraiser will multiply whatever contribution you are able to make yourself. In my case I have raised 10 times the amount that I’ve been able to donate myself. My brother Aaron has just begun fundraising and has had results much greater than mine. I find there are many out there who are perfectly willing to contribute, they only need to be asked.

Let’s show our great support for Governor Romney by making this a highly successful fundraising quarter that will propel him to winning the nomination!

~Nate Gunderson
