Rasmussen Reports: Head-to-Head: Huckabee 44%, Romney 39%

If the choice for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012 comes down to a choice between Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney, Huckabee has a slight edge.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Republican voters finds that 44% prefer Huckabee, 39% favor Romney, and 17% are not sure.
Data released yesterday showed that Huckabee and Romney lead all hopefuls in an early look at the 2012 race. Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich also attract double-digit support.
Both Huckabee and Romney are viewed favorably by 78% of Republican voters.
However, intensity leans a bit in Huckabee’s favor. Forty-six percent (46%) have a Very Favorable opinion of the former Arkansas governor and current Fox News host. Just 34% have such positive feelings about Romney.
In their head-to-head match-up, the two candidates are essentially even among men while Huckabee leads among women. The two men are close among those who attend church or religious services two-to-three times a month. Romney does better among those who attend less while Huckabee does better among more frequent churchgoers.
Republican voters are very confident their nominee could be the next president of the United States. Eighty-one percent (81%) of the GOP faithful say that it’s at least somewhat likely the Republican nominee will defeat President Obama in 2012. Fifty percent (50%) say it’s Very Likely.

That does not bode well for the future of the republican party John. It’s a good thing I’ve changed to independent since McCain won the nomination. Huckabee is a hack and all the fools that couldn’t see through his charades … well, let’s just say I’m sick of the Democrats AND the Republicans. They’re mostly pandering hypocrites. At least Romney has a track record of success. If Huckabee wins, Obama will remain in the white house until 2016 and the religious right will have destroyed the Republican party.

Jon,
I agree. It continues to amaze me how persistent the blind spot is for some of the religious right.
There is hope, though. When I was at Notre Dame this past May and I was talking to and interviewing the pro life demonstrators outside the University’s main gate, as soon as I identified myself as being from CommittedtoRomney.com they lit up like a Christmas tree and said things like: “Oh, Gov. Romney! We like him very much!”

Well said, John, about the persistent blind spot. Please voters, don’t do a stupid thing like back Huckabee over Romney in 2012. We need true leadership to navigate our country back from the brink and Romney is THE only formidable candidate for the task.

Romney gets it..He is ready, willing ,and more than able. He is proven. He has a positive track record…He is honest,AND IS THOUGHTFUL OF OTHERS.. Even when he knocks his competition, he does it with class. We need a strong role model…I see Mitt as it…2012!!!!!

I think Romney is playing his cards well. The Rasmussen poll should be highly discounted at this point not only because of how far off the elections are but because Romney is playing in the backfield at the moment. I read a comment from him the other day or one of his associates that said he is only commenting on specific topics as they are raised instead of doing what Huckabee does ie commenting on every issue possible. I trust these polls will reverse themselves when the timing is right and when tactics start to get focused.
