Palinites Getting a Jump on 2012 - Time for Romney Supporters to Organize

November 24th, 2008 Posted in Mitt Romney

I, like most of you, thought that the election of Barack Obama would bring about a lull in the election cycle, signaling the end of major camapign activity for a year or two until the Republican primaries would being after the congressional elections in 2010. But, courtesy of Sarah Palin supporters, it does not appear as if this will be the case. Already, a pro-Palin PAC (http://ourcountrypac.org/) has begun running television advertisements in support of the Alaska Governor. This indicates that the Romney supporters (known as Mittheads) may be falling behind in the fight for the 2012 nomination - and that is unacceptable.

Following the Thanksgiving holiday, I’ll be working to organize a chat on CTR for Mitt supporters to begin plotting their next moves. I have a vague outline of what I would like to start working on, and I’ll bring up more during the chat.

For now, I want to bein focusing on the production of Youtube ads supporting a Romney run in four years. Currently, a search for “Sarah Palin 2012″ reveals more than 500 results. A similar search for Romney’s name reveals fewer than fifty videos. Anyone who is experienced working with video editing programs, who has ideas for potential ads, who can aid in the search for music, pictures, or videos for said ads, or who would be willing to do voice-over work should drop me an email at mburn16@yahoo.com - or just leave a comment here.

It is essential that Romney supporters being organizing now in order to keep up with the other candidates who have already begun working. Otherwise, we may risk falling irreversibly behind in the race for the nomination.

Feel free to leave ideas or comments. I’ll have more - hopefully including a date for the chat - sometime next week.

    Matthew!

I think this is a superb idea… I would love to see videos that extoll all the good he has done with his life. I would love to see videos on there of him giving his empassioned speech to the MA legislature begging them not to pass the gay marriage law… I would love to see his speeches on there about abortion and stem cell research. I would love to just see the wholesome side of Mitt shown through video. His life has been good. Find people who know him and let them talk about him. America needs to know the servant that Mitt has been…

This is the deal, for every good thing about Mitt, there is someone out there waiting to make a vile lying video… those videos need to be countered right off. We need to win and at least let America know the real Mitt Romney…

Does anyone know how to get onto the Romney 2012 facebook site??? I would really love to see it…

You have a great idea Matt!!! K

No Palin. Her 15 mintues are so over. If her followers want her, we’ll be losing in another 4. No veep slot. Nothing. She needs to focus on getting re elected. It appears with the loss of stevens, it might be a tad harder if your not well versed in the workings of a country, let alone a state.

  3. Leslie Says:

Aren’t Palin’s 15 minutes of fame up yet? The clock is ticking loudly.

  4. Denny Says:

    Good idea.

I will help the Romney cause for 2012 with my blog.

Matt, 2thpt, Renie, and I are all with ya. We talked a couple of weeks ago, and thought we should get started. We were not sure about decision making for this site. Some felt it may be too soon. Last, but not least, we did not know if Mitt would be running in 2012. Sarah seemed to be a factor for him, and now it seems his assessment is correct. So will he run in 2012???? Let’s not forget the Huck factor…………So, good for you, if all facts are in place, let’s get the chat going. Time and grassroots will enable us to be ready. In Maine, I have lots of contacts, that hold republican seats and worked with our election organizer in Lewiston/ Auburn area. So, everyone working together doing a little means not just one person has to do alot. Thank you for all that you are doing. The chat will reveal how we go forward. Let us know time and date…….

  6. Paulee Says:

It is the time, 6pm west coast is 9pm east coast. Also, Monday is the Mormon’s night with family, as I understand, Karen does a Tuesday night duty for her church. We need as many folks as necessary. But, decisions can be posted as we make them, as you did with this post. Thanks, Matthew……….. Right now, though, we need Chambliss elected in Georgia, Dec. 2, revote……….. If you know anyone in that area, explain that we must win this for stabilization of Congress. The Dems must not have complete control………………………….This is critical for balance in our govt.

Partisan Parley In The Peach State?: Religious Right ‘Renewal Event In Georgia Seems Aimed at Senate Run-off - By Sandhya Bathija - November 24, 2008

    http://blog.au.org/2008/11/24/partisan-parley-in-the-peach-state-religious-right-renewal-event-in-georgia-seems-aimed-at-senate-runoff/
    Here they go again.

It seems that Religious Right activists are up to their usual dubious tactics — this time recruiting Georgia churches to try to secure a victory for U.S. Senate Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss in his Dec. 2 run-off.
After the Nov. 4 election, neither Chambliss nor Democrat Jim Martin received the 50-percent-plus-one-vote needed to win. If Martin ousts Chambliss next week, that means 59 Democrats will hold seats in the Senate. And depending on the results in the Minnesota Senate recount, that could lead to 60 Democrats holding seats — the number needed for a filibuster-proof majority.

With so much at stake, it’s not surprising that Religious Right honchos are pushing the Georgia Renewal Project’s “Pastors’ Policy Briefing Luncheon” tomorrow afternoon at the Renaissance Waverly Hotel in Atlanta — exactly one week before the run-off election. (Beverly LaHaye of Concerned Women for America sent an announcement to her email list.)

The event tomorrow is headlined “Rediscovering God in America,” and there is no mention that Chambliss will be in attendance, but it certainly seems likely. Back in January, Religious Right powerhouses organized similar events masked as “pastors’ policy briefings” for evangelical clergy in order to promote Mike Huckabee’s candidacy for presidency.
These “briefings,” just like the one planned for tomorrow, were put on by shadowy state-based groups using names including the words “renewal” and “restoration,” and brought together conservative Protestant pastors for closed-door meetings.

Those organizing the gatherings claim they were there to discuss “social issues,” but surprise, Huckabee spoke at the events. His appearances were always under the radar, and no other candidate in the Republican primary was in attendance, leading political observers to conclude that these “briefings” really had a partisan purpose.

Events were held in Iowa, South Carolina and Florida. In Florida, the American Family Association, the Florida Family Policy Council (a James Dobson affiliate), Tim and Bev LaHaye and other Religious Right powerbrokers organized one of these briefings for evangelical clergy, also called “Rediscovering God in America.”

According to a report by the Dallas Morning News, the Florida event was shrouded in secrecy and only Huckabee spoke. Huckabee said he was not there as a presidential candidate yet delivered a sermon that had broad political implications. He called for a constitutional amendment banning abortion and demanded that those in attendance become active in politics.

Tomorrow’s event has a lot of the same trappings. Special guests include Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue and “historian” David Barton from Wallbuilders, a Religious Right organization pushing a right-wing Christian version of American history.

Also listed as guest speakers are Bob McEwen, a former “pro-family” Ohio congressman who helped host a Huckabee fundraiser last November and spoke at the South Carolina “pastor policy briefing” in January, as well as Mat Staver, head of the Falwell-affiliated Religious Right group Liberty Counsel (who was also in attendance at the South Carolina briefing).

LaHaye’s announcement of the Atlanta function, which went out as part of Concerned Women’s electronic newsletter, says other guest speakers will be in attendance who are not mentioned on the program.

If this “briefing” really is just to “encourage pastors and their congregations to take a stand for morality in their daily lives,” — as the announcement claims — it seems rather coincidental that it comes one week before the run-off, with the same key players that put on Huckabee’s “renewal” projects.

Though suspicious, it’s not surprising — just another underhanded attempt by the Religious Right to skirt federal tax law, which bars churches and other tax-exempt groups from making candidate endorsements.

If Chambliss does make an appearance, we’ll be interested to see if Martin is there, too.

RED MEAT! Hewitt, Huckabee and Anti-Mormonism
by John Schroeder (Article VI blog)

    READ IT ALL HERE:
    http://www.article6blog.com/2008/11/25/red-meat-hewitt-huckabee-and-anti-mormonism/

One of the greatest dangers now facing the Republican Party is this snake-oil salesman Huckabee. He is silver-tongued and he has a loyal base. He has a mean and nasty streak and obviously loves to nurse a grudge. (Witness the many pages of his book devoted to Mitt Romney, who had the temerity to be handsome, rich, have a beautiful family, and beat up on Huck politically everywhere they competed other than Iowa.) Worst of all, his aiding and abetting of the dark bigotry of his supporters proves that he lacks the courage to do the right thing. Not a good combination in a would-be national leader.

All that, combined with the man’s ego and charming narcissism, make for a very negative influence on the party. Just imagine what Huck would do to Sarah Palin, once she started making him look bad. (And she will, if Huck takes her on.)

Mike Huckabee’s a cancer on the GOP and on conservatism. May he be consigned for the rest of his public career to a weekend Fox New interview show.

  9. John Says:

We should start drawing attention to Mitt by trying to draft him as our nominee. Start petitions and do ads telling how America needs Romney’s leadership at this time in our history. Asking Mitt to be our nominee would stir up alot of attention and could give people another chance to look into Gov. Romney. This will also take up some time and not be seen as him running for the office so soon. It will give Gov. Romney some cover. Because he will not be spending his time, we will be spending our time for him.

Draft Mitt Romney. The correction of our misfortune begins in 2012!

  10. JA Says:

I would love to help our cause in any way I can. We definitely need to get organized. If we can harness the energy of all Mitt’s supporters, we’ll make a big impact.

On a personal level, I’ve been making monthly contributions to Mitt’s PAC, and just put our new “Mitt ‘12″ bumper stickers on our vehicles - but would love to be part of a group effort. So sign me up for whatever’s needed!

  11. Paulee Says:

Seems we need to regroup and get the lead out!!!!!! Okay, time and day for Chat, post so all can see. Let’s make some positive waves for our beloved Mitt Romney….. and ANN!!!

Tomorrow night, Wednesday November 26, our wonderful first lady Laura Bush is hosting a 0 minute documentary entitled ‘The White House: Behind Closed Doors’ on the History channel – 9:00 PM EST. It is billed as “a combination inside look, history lesson and parting gift from a grateful resident.”

    Slide show: http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/Laura-Bush/ss/events/pl/051302laurabush;_ylt=Akx1bP5xXYelBqiQV92pZx9Y24cA#photoViewer=/081125/482/d4f532295c704680a8b6e53d690c2d53

So, if tomorrow evening finds you busy: baking pies, rolling out rolls, ironing the Thanksgiving table cloth, polishing silver, stirring up stuffing, making up an extra bed for aunt Gertrude, helping the kids make pilgrim place cards, filling a box with food stuffs for a needy neighbor, raking leaves from the driveway, searching for the family Scrabble game, arranging an autumnal centerpiece, peeling yams, dusting off family photo albums for Uncle Felix, whipping up a green bean casserole, charging up the video camera, hand washing goblets, folding napkins, shoveling snow from the steps, positioning extra chairs around the dining room table, checking the airline schedule to pick up cousin Matilda, setting a cranberry walnut Jello mold, chewing gum to poke in candlesticks to hold tapers upright, or wrestling with a slippery, half-frozen turkey… you just might welcome the chance to kick back in front of the TV, put your feet up for 90 minutes, and enjoy the wonders of our very own White House.

    Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

    Check out TeamSarah.org
It has already grown to nearly 60,000 enthusiasistic supporters, with plans to grow that number to 100,000 by inaguration day 2009. The enthusiasm and support Governor Palin is generating is like something never seen in american politics.

  16. D.S. Says:

jUST THOUGHT id comment this SARAH PALIN 64% support to run in 2012,Romney 11%,well Mitts got alot of cash ,but where did that get him last time? Sarah has a way of connecting and spread as many tales as you want, the exitment and her growing popularity tells the real story,SARAH PALIN like it or not will win if she runs and she will, people are laying the ground work, on the web and in communitys, you may as well go to www team sarah .org and join up,theres no 15 minutes of fame its gonna be 12 years of SARAHS rule.

  17. Stefany Says:

My very left leaning neighbor said she might have voted for McCain if he had chosen Mitt as his running mate- considering that the economy was at the forefront of her concerns. She added that she felt that McCain lost because of Palin. Palin drew out a lot of dislike amongst the middle of the road voters. Personally, I have nothing against Palin and believe McCain would have lost regardless.

I’m behind Mitt all the way, but the one who’ll decide his ‘12 run(in my opinion)will be Ann. There’s also been plenty of talk on the airwaves about getting Mitt to turn around the auto industry- GM hiring him. If anyone could save them, he could. A feat like that would have him poised for the national stage again- after the Obama presidency falls flat.

  18. Tracey Says:

I hope Ann’s health is okay. Stress is an enemy to any disease and as many of you know she has MS.

Palin has emerged as a party darling. I feared that would happen and I never liked her mainly because she is one more obstacle for MY MAN MITT.

The party is so divided. If Mitt can manage the nomination, I think the indys and some dems will gladly vote for him. They may not agree with all of his politics but they will recognize his sharp, smart, no nonsense approach to problems. We really don’t have 4 years.

Tonight I watching you tube videos of Mitt. Only the positive ones. What might have been! I hope 2012 will be the year that America wakes up and says we need someone in Washington who will not settle for politics as usual. Obama claims to be such a person but given his cabinet selection, I think it will be politics as usual. WE NEEDED REAL CHANGE. THE KIND OF CHANGE ROMNEY BROUGHT TO MASS.

  19. Chris A Says:

That’s about the ‘base’ for Palin. a million voters is nothing at all. The media is building her up, so Obama has zero competition in 12. If she gets anywhere near the nom, on any part of the ticket, it is over. We can’t let this happen. If it’s not mitt, it needs to be someone of Mitts quality. I promise to donate whatever I can to defeat this woman in AK in 12. That will help kill off her chances for 12. 2 major defeats is hard to overcome. I saw the turkey video as well. What was this woman thinking? Next thing, we’ll see her giving a press briefing while a ‘copter flyes by and kills wolves.

  20. Chris A Says:

I do have another idea that will kill the national debt and unload the palin problem.

    Sell Alaska.

No kidding. Drop a for sale sign in the gov’s front porch and sell to the higest bidder. It’s not like we can drill there anyway. The state produces very little we are actaully able to use and it appears to be full of nutters. I say, sell it. Pay off the neational debt, and we’re done. It’s too far away anyway, and tends to be full of out of touch folks.

  21. Tracey Says:

We need real change. When is America going to wake up a realize what needs to happen? We need more than slogans -Change we can believe in- HA! Real change involves great sacrifice from all of us and leadership that only someone like Romney can provide. His record in Mass. is amazing and it needs more attention. He got them out of debt and gave them a health care program. What more could America ask for?

He could save the Auto industry. Congress will bail them out and allow the auto industry to fail because they will continue to follow the same old bad policies that got them to this point.

At times I think we deserve this because we are not smart enough to recognize what needs to happen. Our country is creeping towards the ’s’ word. We need Romney now more than ever. Maybe he is not the “perfect” candidate for everyone as we all have our pet issues but he is the Right candidate for difficult economic times.

Has O promised to solve our economic crisis in 4 years? Lets hold him to it and not give him a minute more.

  22. Miguel Says:

Stop Sarah? Not possible. She has the support of over 70% of the Republican party. You can not stop that.
Join The Palin Revolution, because it can still be a shinning city.

    TeamSarah.org

  23. Tracey Says:

    Miguel-

What does Sarah Palin offer America?

We need someone who is a proven leader, who has turned around one mess after another. Romney knows how to fix things.

What has Palin done? You say Palin can’t be stopped. I say her supporters need to recognize Palin can’t win in 2012. She offends the independents. Romney attracts independents because he is the best man for the job when it comes to the economy.

Palin is not the brightest or the sharpest tool in the shed. Maybe you are willing to overlook her short comings but the independents will not and if you and your team succeed at getting her nominated you will loose the White House in 2012.

  24. Chris Says:

Miguel That is a bogus number. She did not and does not have 70 precent of the GOP. 1/5 did not vote for this ticket because of her. Many other can’t stand her. This number is from the Bigot right. And widdle sarah believes her own press. She’s being set up to be the fall chick by the media. Ensuring a landslide in 12 for Obama.

I will work hard to help whoever opposes her in 10 in AK. Nuter her now, or we deal later.

  25. Chris Says:

Miguel, Teamsarah? LOLOLOL. Big whoop. I have zero respect for Ms. Palin, her hubby and really do feel for the people of AK who got an ego for a gov. She’s a blip, and is so busy courting the nutcases of the fringe GOP that she has little time to govern in AK. Unless it’s at a turkey farm with turkeys being wasted in the background. Yea, yea. you will put out the excuse that it shows where food really comes from… Gotcha. wink wink.
