Pre, Mid and Post Debate Open Forum

Post your opinions on the debate here. Did Palin hit it out of the park or strike out? Does having Mr. Malaprop a heartbeat from the Presidency scare you?
Did McCain outfox Obama four ways from Sunday or make a boneheaded pick? We may know about an hour from now.

I stand corrected Sarah Palin was SENSATIONAL !
October 2nd, 2008 at 10:57 pm
I agree! I was so impressed with her this evening. She really socked it to Biden!!
October 3rd, 2008 at 1:55 am
.. wow .. were we watching two different debates? From her blowing kisses, winking, shoulder shugging & (phoney) colloquialisms to her refusal to answer the questions at hand … maybe I wasn’t watching a debate. She was successful in her 3 day cram session because the talking points came out loud and clear .. even if they were misplaced. I am 180 degrees from Biden’s policies, but he came off as the more endearing (when he got emotional about his family tragedy, Gov Palin showed no compassion & just spewed more talking points about “the maverick.”) Biden also had a depth of knowledge that was sincere & not coming from a stack of notecards(!) Did anyone else think that was incredibly rude that Gov. Palin was constantly shuffling through her cards while Sen Biden was speaking? Perhaps if she’d been paying attention to what he was saying, maybe her responses would’ve made more sense. There wasn’t a lot of dead air & she didn’t fall apart on stage — I guess that makes her a success, but still not a good pick for McCain’s VP.

Crystal F has been at the kool aid stand way too long! She is typical of Obama lovers as she lies about who see really is! She might be 180 degrees from Biden’s policies but they are all way to the left of Bidens. She would be far more comfortable posting at the Huffington blog with other Obama lovers and fools! SHAME!!!!!

Sarah Palin stared criticism straight in the face Thursday, telling opponent Joe Biden and moderator Gwen Ifill that she would answer questions and address issues on her own terms during the vice presidential debate.
Joe Biden and Sarah Palin traded barbs Thursday in the only vice presidential debate this election year.
“I may not answer the question the way you want to hear, but I’ll talk straight to the American people and let them know my track record,” Palin said.
Since being picked as Republican presidential nominee John McCain’s running mate, Palin has been under fire for not being accessible enough to the media and delivering tightly scripted speeches during campaign appearances.
Palin did not veer off course during the 90-minute debate, but her stand on principle appeared to hurt her, according to a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. Poll of debate watchers.
Only 26 percent of those surveyed said that Palin was more intelligent in the debate compared to the 57 percent who chose Biden, according to the poll of 611 adult Americans, who tuned in to watch it. The poll had a sampling error of 4 points.
Overall, 51 percent of the debate watchers said that Biden did the best job in the debate, while 36 percent gave the nod to Palin.
However, the Alaska governor, who repeatedly sought to emphasize the maverick credentials of the McCain-Palin ticket, overcame expectations as 84 percent of the debate watchers said she did better than expected

Too little, too late, I’m afraid. Not wanting to sound too pessimistic, but Palin is swiming against a huge media tide. Hope for the best and vote.

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/10/03/1487223.aspx
The Free Press offers this nugget. “McCain campaign manager Rick Davis called former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney to tell him of the decision to pull out of Michigan just before Romney — who grew up in Oakland County — got on a conference call with reporters Thursday. Romney was holding the call with McCain strategist Doug Holtz-Eakin to raise claims that Obama’s policies are no good for Michigan’s struggling economy.”
One of McCain’s co-chairs in the state is disappointed the decision to withdraw. “Chuck Yob, a co-chairman of McCain’s Michigan effort, said the campaign’s own polling showed other states as better chances than Michigan.’I don’t think it’s a very good decision,’ he said of Thursday’s pullout. ‘I think it’s wrong. But they’ve got to pool their resources in the states where they think they can win.’”
The Associated Press calls the McCain pullback “a major concession,” and notes that local Republicans were blindsided by the call.

Sarah was a smart pick by McCain because she is all about S-E-X. With her tight skirts, long flowing hair, constant flirting with the camera as well as Biden himself “Can I call you Joe?” it’s no wonder that men are going ga-ga over her, and why women are clearly lukewarm. The only person McCain could have done better with was Marilyn Monroe herself. You go girl! At least she doesn’t pretend that she’s not about anything but “being adorable”. I guess that’s what America wants now, so we might as well all jump on board the Palin bandwagon.
October 3rd, 2008 at 7:23 pm
Status quo. All she had to do was show up and wink a few times, and she would do OK. I don’t think either won the hearts and minds. Those that supported her, still do. those that did not, still don’t. In some ways, it was much like Nixion v Kennedy. Quite different on raido than on TV. We did not get the body languague.
Polls are showing that’s exactly what happened. Bar set so low that all either had to do was show.

I am afraid he has to hit energy as an economic recovery tool and hard. why did not Palin point out that 700 billion a year spend to import oil is just about what the bail out is.
October 3rd, 2008 at 9:30 pm
Brent. Because that stat was not in her notes she memorized.
October 4th, 2008 at 6:29 am
Leslie, bull. Poll after poll show that women of all political persuasions support Palin. Try Zogby who just made the statement yesterday and Palin’s support came primarily from women. Lukewarm women? Bull. Many men and women are estatic about Palin for one reason: she’s a true conservative.
October 4th, 2008 at 7:58 am
Even Sarah disagrees with Mccain and advisers to pull out of Michigan. I think Sarah, Todd and Romney would have been an awesome strategy. Go walk the talk in Michigan. if they thought they were on the fence, they just nailed the coffin in Michigan. With all the new high mileage cars in demand, energy technology, Mitt and Sarah would have been a winner there. They are having foggy thinking. She thinks more like Mitt, positively. She is one who doesn’t give up, and really thinks she can connect. If you think you can, YOU CAN!!!!!!!!
October 4th, 2008 at 9:42 am
Brent, good point about the 700 billion we spend each year importing foreign oil is the same price tag as the bail-out bill.
Paulee,I agree! I like Palin’s “git ‘r done” attitude. Now that we see how McCain makes critical campaign decisions - not even consulting with his VP nominee - I think it was a personal blessing for Romney that he wasn’t chosen to run with Mac. Mitt is a team-building maverick; Mac is just a maverick.

Go Michigan Republicans!
Michigan Republicans oppose McCain pullout
Read it all here: http://news.yahoo.com/s/politico/20081004/pl_politico/14267
In the aftermath of John McCain’s decision to pull out of Michigan, Republicans in the state are expressing shock and bewilderment at his move — and aren’t willing to cede the state’s 17 electoral votes just yet.
“We’re blindsided, along with everybody else in Michigan,” said Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson. “I feel like I woke up this morning, and there was a note on my pillow.”
“When the general leaves the battlefield when the fight’s still going on, it creates a lot of chaos,” he said.
“There will still be a campaign for John McCain in Michigan whether it is sanctioned by the professionals in Washington, D.C., or not,” [Chuck]Yob wrote. (Yob is the former Republican National Committeeman for Michigan.)
“We will have a revised plan in effect by next week and are not conceding an inch to the Obama campaign or any Democrats in Michigan,” he wrote. “This is a battleground state, the numbers always tighten up and we will bring the McCain campaign back to Michigan by our own efforts statewide.”
October 4th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
Andrew.
she is not a true conservative. She is a right wing extremist. I don’t buy that women of all sides support her. I know many true conservative women, myself included, that will not be supporting this ticket. And tha’s just here in Utah.
But no worries. McCain is starting to do even stupider things, like pulling out of critical states, at critical times. I guess he needs to retire.
October 4th, 2008 at 3:39 pm
Somebody should take away McCain’s magic 8 ball . . .
October 4th, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Chris, if the polls don’t matter to you then I guess you also think McCain is shoe-in, huh? The polls show that many women do support her. BTW, a conservative is not a right-wing extremist? Wow, since when did you folks start separating the two? (BTW, is it conservatives or right wingers who have the extra chromosones?)
Frankly, I don’t know how you define right wing. Is it because she thinks a fetus is a human being? Gosh, that puts her in the majority, not the minority. Because Palin wants less government? Well so did Ronald Reagan (but I guess he was not a conservative, just right wing). Or is she right wing because she thinks that we should pay less in taxes? If so, then please call me a neolithic right winger.
Finally, your attempt to insult by lashing out with an epithet (”right wing extremist”) only demonstrates that you are the extremist, and you do not desire to communite issues or policy, and just rely upon attacking solid conservatives.
BTW, I too know many conservative women and you are the only one that I know who doesn’t support her (so there!)
October 4th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
Oh as further proof of the support of women, just look at this HILLARY CLINTON FOR PRESIDENT FORUM
http://www.hillaryclintonforum.net/discussion/showthread.php?p=421188#post421188
You’ll find out that these gals (who disagree with me on just about every issue on the planet) are overwhelmingly in support of Palin “the right wing extremist!”
I guess now that Palin has the left-wing extremist women’s vote all wrapped up, she needs to begin working on the right-wing extremist women’s vote.
October 6th, 2008 at 6:16 pm
I wish some of the comments here were not so completely partisan/close-minded. Watch the Couric interview again if you REALLY think this woman is fit to be one heartbeat away from the presidency.
