Keeping the Border Issue Alive
Congratulations to readers 2thePoint and Evelio Perez for helping to keep the issue of illegal immigration alive. They said in their comments that the issue was noticeable by it’s absence at the recently ended Republican Convention. I assume the political consultants employed by the campaign “focus-grouped” it and decided to keep the spotlight off the issue, fearing a back lash from Hispanic voters. As Evelio points out, he is an American of Cuban descent and his prescription for the border as an Hispanic is to CLOSE IT!

We all know where Romney stood on illegal immigration - an issue so vital to our nation’s security. Illegal aliens were not mentioned by either party’s Pres/VP candidates during their speeches at the Repub or Dem conventions. I want to hear specifics from McCain/Palin and Obama/Biden on how they plan to build and enforce a REAL border, what to do with the millions of aliens in America, their opinions on “anchor babies” given automatic U.S. citizenship, how they would handle the increasing violence on the US/Mexican border due to Mexican organized criminals attempting to establish a significant presence in the U.S., and their opinions on the incarcerations of U.S. border agents Jose Alonso Compean to 12 years in prison and Ignacio Ramos to 11 years.
Our past and present methods of dealing with our borders are a real and present threat to every American. The United States can not pretend for four more years that these issues are going to be solved without making DRASTIC changes.

Our past and current methods of enforcing our borders are woefully ineffective. Our border patrol agents are to be commended, but our cellophane borders and the perpetual inundation of illegal aliens are a real and present danger to every American.

2THEPOINT , You sooooo right , could we have our first Mexican-American president in the near future ? Probably , our way of life is being attacked from all borders and our leaders seem to welcome them with open arms . You are correct, none of the candidates have said word one from our biggest threat , illegal immigration . I am a Cuban , but an American first , close the borders now or face the consequences later.
I hope that Mitt Romney again leads the charge in the illegal immigration fiasco , this could be a good catapult to the Presidency on 2012 .

Oh I know what Romney should do next…and he can stay outside of Washington (like he wants to get it done). He can spearhead this whole fight for a border fence and real border security…just be the biggest pain in the buttock for McCain (going to vote for him…still don’t trust him but Obama Downright scares me…NOBAMA!) I think that Romney wants to elect John McCain but he needs to realize that McCain doesn’t have a record to back himself up on illegal immigration…and most Spanish people here legally don’t like illegal immigrants. They ruin it for the rest.

Romney can be the anti-congress crusader! He can go all out for the border fence and raise awareness on their numerous other blunders. Use his PAC to help elect the best and brightest, and run again as Mr. Fix-it.

I just read this great article this morning about Bobby Jindal, “Mitt Jr.”, and his command of Hurricane Gustav. Bobby is clearly someone to look out for in 2012 if McCain fails.
Romney/Jindal 2012!!!

SED, When I first saw Jindal’s speech after getting elected governor, I thought he’d make the perfect VP for Mitt except for the one problem that he had only just started his term as governor. In 2012 he’d be perfect! Romney/Jindal 2012!

Because Romney’s Mormon Christian religion wasn’t viewed as being on an equivalent footing with the beliefs of many in the religious right, the following news should start the “no religious test” bells ringing. American constitutionalists who uphold Article VI, section 3, (U.S. constitution) “no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States” should awaken to this alarming development.
In view of Romney’s rising star in the Republican party, I find the Alliance Defense Fund’s goal of challenging the Supreme Court’s ban on political endorsements from religious organizations (with tax-free status) to be beyond coincidental.
“Ban on Political Endorsements by Pastors Targeted” By Peter Slevin Washington Post - Monday, September 8, 2008(excerpts below)

CHICAGO — Declaring that clergy have a constitutional right to endorse political candidates from their pulpits, the socially conservative Alliance Defense Fund is recruiting several dozen pastors to do just that on Sept. 28, in defiance of Internal Revenue Service rules. (The Alliance Defense Fund is a legal consortium founded in 1994 by Christian conservatives including James C. Dobson of Focus on the Family and William R. Bright that considers itself the antithesis of the American Civil Liberties Union. It spends more than $20 million a year to underwrite legal battles and train lawyers to push the country in socially conservative directions.)
The effort by the Arizona-based legal consortium is designed to trigger an IRS investigation that ADF lawyers would then challenge in federal court. The ultimate goal is to persuade the U.S. Supreme Court to throw out a 54-year-old ban on political endorsements by tax-exempt houses of worship.
Joe Conn, a spokesman for Americans United for Separation of Church and State, calls “Pulpit Freedom Sunday” a “stunt” that is part of an effort by the religious right to build a church network that will “put their candidates into office. It’s part of the overall game plan.”
“The sermon will be an evaluation of conditions for office in light of scripture and doctrine. They will make a specific recommendation from the pulpit about how the congregation would vote,” he said.
“They could oppose a candidate. They could oppose both candidates. They could endorse a candidate. They could focus on a federal, state or local election.”
Such endorsements are prohibited by a 1954 amendment to the Internal Revenue Code that says nonprofit, tax-exempt entities may not “participate in, or intervene in … any political campaign on behalf of any candidate for public office.”
In a Sept. 3 letter to two United Church of Christ pastors in Ohio who are organizing the challenge to the ADF, Stanley appealed to them, “as one Christian brother to another,” to abandon their criticism. He asserted a “constitutional right to speak freely from the pulpit” and said IRS rules “stifle religious expression.”
“This is an extraordinarily reckless scheme that they are promoting,” Conn said. “The federal tax law is clear. Churches are charitable institutions that exist to do charitable things. That does not include politics. Political groups do politics.”

Who wants to bet a penny that Immigration will not be brought up in the Debates ? I frankly think that since both candidates agree on the issue they will agree to ignore it.
We have to somehow keep the debate going by making it an issue again , call the talk shows , write letters to the Newspapers ( good luck ) , call your elected officials , etc…. or else …… Aprende ha hablar espanol .

Bigmo. 012 will be the year we return! I really don’t think the fair winds and following seas are at McCain’s back. I think (and really do hope)that McCain goes down with the ship. The GOP has lost it’s rudders. We need to regroup. We needed to 8 years ago, and blew it. We needed to 4 years ago, and blew it. Now we need to force the change needed so long ago. Our party has been taken over by two extremes, the nutcases on the far, far right and the doublespeakers on the left. We middle GOP’s are squeezed out. Time to regroup. the ONLY way to do it is from the sidelines. It’s all good folks. We’ll be fine.

According to some reserches, U.S population will reach 439 millions by year 2050. This data was made by only increase of legals (like me) and illigals immigrants from past 50 years.
439 millions without U.S citizen’s natural birth…..

I can’t wait to hear what Sarah Palin thinks about border control and building the fence. She really is a pit bull with lipstick if she will look Maverick in the eye and tell him “NO Amnesty! No way, No how!-over my dead hockymom body!”
September 10th, 2008 at 10:27 pm
Stefany.
That won’t happen. Palin is not allowed out on her own. Notice how she only speaks when spoken to. Mac has her trained to clam up and only speak when he tells her too.
Some progress for a woman, eh? McCain as insulted me by thinking he can get my vote by picking a woman as veep. No, he’s still at the top of the ticket, and still flawed to the point where I don’t trust and won’t vote for him. I don’t care much for Palin either, but It’s McCain who would be president. He’s showing me first hand what a woman hater he must be. At least let her loose for a few hours. She might want to grab a burger and a beer somplace without you.

Stefany , If Sara Palin stands up to McCain on the border I will eat my Tacos .( hat )
