Evelio,
I don’t perfer him, but I do see him as a vehicle to get some things done. First off, it will force the GOP to get it’s act together, so conservative moderates like myself, will come back to the fold. Secondly, it will start some social programs that while might be extreme to start with, can be pared down later. I have no problem with some sort of health safety net for those that cannot get insurance, or cannot afford it. I don’t like candidates who pander to the far religious right. I know I am not alone when McCain AND Obama went to kiss the Rick Warren ring. While some good came of the questions, I feel the venue was not appropriate for a political campaign. I know I sometimes sound shrill, but Palin is not someone I trust, want or even admire. I am insulted that McCain put her on the ticket and thought that because I am a woman, a mom and a wife that I would vote for her. Well, he’s wrong. Top or bottom of ticket, I can’t vote for either.
The LDS first presidency has said there is good to be found in both parties of the politial landscape. Things that do align quite well with the church and it’s doctrine. And, there is things in BOTH parties that don’t. President Faust was a huge democrate. He’s the one who got me thinking. Him and Scott Mattheson. Both are excellent examples, and both are (were) democrates. I don’t see a whole lot of evil in these men. Yet, I’m being told that IF I vote democrate, I’m evil and wrong. I’m not evil and wrong. But I think our party needs to be gutted and rebuilt. And we can’t seem to do it from the inside looking out. We need to be out, looking in. No one is perfect, and Obama’s adminstration will be a mess. But it will give us the time we need to develop the talents and improve our party.
And one more point, if we do go into exile - and I hope we do - I think Mitt needs to be head of the RNC and start houscleaning on day uno. First on his adjenda, telling the religious right they no longer have the type of infulence that they’ve had the past 12 years. It’s over for them, and to take a seat in the congeration and allow other voices to be heard.

I grew up in Michigan and I’m certainly glad to see this mayor go (purposeful small “m” in the word Mayor when used in association with Kilpatrick).
One of the best things that has happenned for Detroit for a while.
And once again we’re seeing what kind of judgement Obama has regarding who he hangs out with.
