Bill O’Reilly Touting Mitt Romney for a High Profile Role in a McCain Adminisration

Bill O’Reilly is beating the drums for Mitt Romney and Gen. Petreus among others for high profile jobs within a McCain administration, to offset the perceived inexperience of Gov. Sarah Palin.

I am paraphrasing what they said, something to the effect that because of the high level of success and respect that they have achieved, they would lend their status as Party heavy weights to the McCain/Palin ticket.

To switch gears a bit. Kathy has asked to add her perspective on the McCain Rally in Missouri Sunday.

Kathy was on the opposite side of the stadium from me and she got the best view of the work the Secret Service did both before and after the Straight Talk Express pulled into the stadium. She is at a pool party and I assume she’ll be late. ( at the home of my Uncle Joe, who is not known for cutting Cronin get togethers short ) I told Kathy, my son Pat and his girl friend Jamie, to go without me. After being in the heat and the sun for 8 hours yesterday, the last thing I wanted to do was sit around the pool today and soak up some more rays. So hopefully we can get the details of the rally from both of our views tomorrow.

In the meantime, one thing is clear. St. Louis, a predominately Catholic town, LOVES MITT ROMNEY! I was in the VIP section right behind the Governor and to his left and I can assure you he rocked the house when he got off the bus and so did Sarah Palin.

Huckabee? Not so much. Polite, but underwhelming.

In light of the fact that Bristol Palin, Sarah’s 17 yr old daugther is ‘with child’, perhaps it will be a veep slot before Wednesday?

This is not tabliod folks. The palins put out a press release today, confirming it. Oh, she will marry the 22 yr old daddy someday.

  2. StevenInBrooklyn Says:

I think appointing/proposing members for the McCain’s cabinet rapidly is a very good idea (I was just thinking of that yesterday). Basically, in view of her relative (relative!) lack of experience, knowing there were great people at the ready for McCain’s cabinet might reassure certain prospective McCain voters. And since Mitt Romney is not in line to be the Secretary of State or Defense, Commerce would be ideal. Commerce, one must assume, has more of an international element than Treasury, and “international” is what Mitt Romney needs to solidify his future Presidential credentials.

  3. Leslie Says:

I guess McCain didn’t do a very good job of “vetting” this chick. She’s just a gift to the democrats that keeps on giving, isn’t she? As of yesterday, I thought the choice of Palin was very clever, but now I am having serious second thoughts. Go Mitt for 2012!

  4. Matthew Kilburn Says:

I think its time we started looking at 2012. I’ve got the start of the school year and college applications to work on, but I think I can put sometime into a mittromney2012.com effort.

as for a cabinet postion…as someone who wants to see this country have the best leaders, I would say yes. As someone who wants to see Romney as the nominee in 2012, I would say no.

Unlike the VP spot, a cabinet post is not a first class ticket to the nomination, and if he isn’t going to get the gaurenteed spot, he might as well keep the outsider label.

  5. Steve Andrew Says:

How’d you get into the VIP section John? I heard the McCain campaign expected 8,000 people but in reality, 23,000 showed up!

  6. Brent Says:

22 year old dad is statutory rape. Are you sue of the age of the father?

Sounds like the kid is just waiting to turn 18 because her folks won’t let her get married at 17.

  7. Elizabeth Says:

Romney said he didn’t want a Cabinet post where he would get shuffeled around by the powers that be and couldn’t really do anything.

He also said he doubted he would run for the presidency again.

    Is that a head fake?

  8. Karen Says:

ELizabeth, I don’t know, but my heart just got hurt all over again when he was on our local news. He said, “of course, I would have been thrilled to be on the ticket, but when you lose, you lose”… then, he went on to say he was going to do all he could (or words to this effect) to help this ticket become elected.

Again, I felt cheated for me and America, but I really am trying to emulate his attitude and be a grown up! I am just having trouble getting ALL my support together for this ticket, but I am trying!

    K

  9. Karen Says:

What good would it do to press charges if he is 22? I don’t know how old he is, but if she was a willing participant, and feels herself ‘in love’ what good would it do to cause that kind of pain and angst? It would accomplish nothing unless he is a bona fide pediphile. It would bring anger, hate and resentment. Unless it was an actual ‘rape’, it would accomplish zero! Why cause seperation? In most cases, it is best to let it be and it is certainly the best to let the family decide what is best for them and the unborn child.

  10. John Cronin Says:

    Steve Andrew,

We went up to the local McCain H.Q. a week before the event and stood in line for two hours with around 300 other people in order to sign up for the 250 VIP section tickets. Those were the only guaranteed seats in the house, with the exception of the press seats, the Secret Service seats and the seats for several elected officials. In addition to those guaranteed seats, they had a section in back of the stage and slightly elevated that were reserved for “Democrats For McCain.”

As soon as those seats filled up, everyone except the handicapped were routed to the field. That is how the organizers coped with the unexpectedly big crowd.

  11. Tami Says:

I’m pretty sure that Bristol’s fiance is only 18 years old.

  12. Karen Says:

    Thank you Tami.

  13. Sarah Says:

Anybody ever watch a show called Reba? Same thing is happening here except that the girls parents happen to be together. We don’t know who the boy is…I am pretty sure that he’s 18 or he might actually be 17 because we never really know. I think that this will turn off some people or others will be alright. What do I think? She is having the baby and marrying the father. That is all right for me.

As for the topic of this thread. Whatever happens, happens. I am in no way going to get my hope up. I don’t think we have seen the last of Romney but I am not going to give anymore thought to Romney being in the cabinet or for Palin to withdraw from the race. Palin has just come to her first big test. This has only been a ticket for what? Three or four days. Give it a couple weeks. We will know, we will know if she can handle it or not.

  14. Chris Says:

The article I read said he was 22. OK. As a parent (and maybe I’m living in la la land), if a 22 yr old has interest in my 17 yr old, I have a problem on my hands. And so does he, when my daughters dad gets home from work. It would not be stat rape, as she is over 16. that’s the cut off, unles parents want to press charges. That said, Bristol is just following mom’s example. She herself was expecting her first child at her own wedding.

I guess some have a different view of family values. I wonder too, who is going to care for this child? Grandma wants a career in Politics, Grandpa has his thing, and did not keep a eye on his daughter in the first place. They have a special needs kid, who I’m not concerned about who’s tending to his needs….

I think by Wednesday, Ms. Plain is on the return flight to Juno and McCain will be introducing his new sidekick. Our luck, it would be huckabee.

Oh, and I also heard that McCain now has folks on the gound in AK, vetting this gal. You mean… it was not done before he picked her? Talk about a judgement error.

  15. Paulee & Mike Says:

He met with only once in Feb. Then had her meet with him in Sedona,Az. same week as he announced when we all thought our Mitt had it hands down and so did most of America . The polls had Mitt top choice, even the Max poll, that went on forever and you could only vote once! This had to be about the women votes, she still has to prove herself to me. I’m confused, I thought Mitt surely had VP, or a top position in order to suspend his primary race. Now, it seems every idea anyone had is useless. So why did Mccain say, He needed Mitt by his side in Jan. Anyone know that instead of bashing 17 yr. olds, which gets us no where. This isn’t Peyton Place. We, I thought want to be constructive and a help to Mitt and stay informed. There will probably be lots more on the Palin family, seems Mccain was hasty, then again, who knows? I guess it’s been to long at trying to hope and pray, Mitt would lead our country, he deserves, he is ready, he was the best candidate, and here we are. Mccain won’t listen to us about a cabinet position, he didn’t listen before. He’s got his good ole boy network to please. Funny how Sarah keeps using that term?????? As far as Huck’s book goes, I don’t believe a word he says, nor Dick Morris, they have a connection. Well, I’m trying to be hopeful for Mitt , but I’m beginning to think it’s fruitless given the people in power. Anyone have anything positive from Mitt or do we just continue to speculate and be let down once again???? By the way, Laura Bush is a wonderful first lady, Cindy will be a fashion plate, they say she is most understood.I’m dizzy with all this up in the air stuff, i hope we can get grounded soon.

  16. John Cronin Says:

I am relieved that Mitt is out of it. As most of you know, I have had questions about the national leadership from the jump.

If it is true that McCain picked Palin first and vetted her second, then I leave it to you to form your own conclusions about the wisdom of that.

If Palin can weather this storm and even turn it to the ticket’s advantage, then she is a very talented politician.

If she can’t and especially if there are more surprises coming, then the outlook for November is very grim indeed.

If that is the way the scenario plays itself out, then we should continue to support conservatives for Congress and at the same time, start to gear up for Romney in 2012.

  17. Chris Says:

John, I can’t agree more. I think McCain will give us Obama. And we deserve just that. I don’t think this plays well. I’m sorry this is repeating in the Palin family (she was expecting her frist child when she married). But not vetting the poetintial leader of the free world? Are we now shopping for presidents at Wal-mart?

I think there are more suprises comming. I don’t think she’ll be able to weather the oncomming storm. She’s tied to the bridge to nowhere, lobbist cash…. it’s starting to come out. But she’s pretty and a gov. Oooohhh Kay.

I’m sorry I’m bitter about this process. I would have been happier with Ridge than with Palin.

  18. Stephen Says:

One of the things that will start to affect Palin is her ties to big oil. I have no problem with that but in this year’s climate of high energy prices others may and could use it against Palin, which in turn links to McCain.

  19. Tami Says:

Mitt has said repeatedly that he does not want a Cabinet position and I don’t blame him. If offered, I hope he declines.

Chris, I respect your bitterness and opinions on all this but I just wanted to point out one thing.. getting pregnant before marriage (as you keep pointing out with Sarah and her daughter) does not make one evil. Just proves they’re human. Happens all the time.

I don’t care one iota that Sarah was pregnant before married. Makes no difference to me.

  20. Trooperdad Says:

“This isn’t Peyton Place”. It’s better, it’s Palin Place!

  21. 2thePoint Says:

    Trooperdad - Clever!
Tami - Good point and I agree with it.

  22. Sarah Says:

    Tami, I agree.

  23. Matthew Kilburn Says:

“If that is the way the scenario plays itself out, then we should continue to support conservatives for Congress and at the same time, start to gear up for Romney in 2012.”

I think your logic here is backwards. If McCain/Palin were to lose, we wouldn’t need to start working on the 2012 election until around 2010. Its the possibility that Palin could win - and become the frontrunner for 2012 - that mandates that we start working on it now, or right after the election.

If McCain were to lose, Palin would be unlikely to run in four years. Its if he wins, and she gains the advantages of incumbency, that require us to start early.

  24. 2thePoint Says:

Giving her the benefit of the doubt, Palin still needs to be cleared of her brother-in-law brouhaha. If that thing has teeth, she could be out - for a long time.

Hope it doesn’t come to that, but you never know…

  25. Leslie Says:

Even if she is pulled -which she won’t be — McCain won’t pick Mitt. I am so happy. McCain is going to go down in flames. It’s good that Mitt is not on this shipping ship.

  26. John Cronin Says:

    Matthew Kilburn,

I said “and at the same time” meaning RIGHT NOW, simultaneously working on Congressional campaigns and starting to gear up for “Romney in 2012.”

  27. Chris Says:

I’m willing to work hard to give Obama a GOP house and Senate. I am NOT willing to work for McCain. He’s shown me to be not only unpredictible, but does not think things through.

  28. Chris Says:

    Sarah
I care that Mccain is saying that this is typical of the average American family. I care that I’m being told by McCain that not only does this happen ‘all the time’ (it does not), she CHOOSE marriage. Really? So, between conception and now…5 months. Is she waiting for the kids to be the ring bearer? Or does she just not want to appear in her whitewedding gown with a bump?

    Some example.

He should have vetted her first, then jumped second. She SHOULD have said no, instead of choosing (for her own gain, in my opinion) to say Yes to McCain. I’m sure she’s a nice woman. I just don’t want her held out as a wonderful example of womanhood. She’s not. AND I certainly don’t want her as leader of the free world if McCain decides to take a dirt nap.

  29. EVELIO PEREZ Says:

  30. Paulee & Mike Says:

Trooperdad: Very clever, Palin Place, I am so frustrated for Mitt. I feel Mccain is not Mitt’s kind and he is better than any of these yokels. John has it right, get the republicans in power. Change the slate, one at a time. they could not stand mitt coming into their territory, How dare he try to change Washington? Just listen to the comments, they are mostly Mitt’s. He opened their eyes. Taller, better looking, smarter, more loyal, more forgiving, more of a team player, lots of money, great family man, great husband. He doesn’t need anything, he’s got it all. This kind of attitude happens all the time. John is not a reliable republican. i think I’m relieved, but will miss Mitt’s presence. The click finds a way to get rid of the people that threaten them. This bunch has mastered that. Anyone know how to get to Mitt? Free Pac? only way?

  31. Chris Says:

Vote GOP down ticket. That will give the obama presidency (and it’s looking like this Palin Pick has tanked the party) a roadblock. Clinton governed conserative only AFTER he was given a GOP house and Senate.

  32. MJ from AZ Says:

It will be interesting to see what Romney does with this life now. Maybe he should buy a house in a the south and become a southern Governor??????? Ha Ha !! I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I hope Palin will weather the storm. I think when I am over my “Mitt Mourning” I will find that I like her.

  33. Sarah Says:

I AM NOT CAMPAIGNING FOR MCCAIN. I am just voting for him…something wrong with that?

Chris I know your mad but if I vote for the wrong person believe me I will learn my lesson. Not that my vote counts much…California will go blue…I will be surprised if McCain wins California
