Experts: Siver Lining for “Viable” Mitt Romney

August 30th, 2008 Posted in John McCain, Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin

My thoughts exactly!

Mitt Romney - once a top contender to be John McCain’s running mate - may have suffered a bruised ego when he was passed over for the little known Gov. Sarah Palin, but the ex-Bay State governor emerged as a major player on the national stage, experts said.

Romney, 61, could land a plum Cabinet post, perhaps as treasury or commerce secretary, as a reward for months of campaigning for McCain, including traveling to Denver this past week to attack Sen. Barack Obama during the Democratic National Convention.

“He’s a very viable candidate” for those posts, said Julian Zelizer, a Princeton University political scientist. “Wall Street investment types always have a strong role in the Republican Party. And his enormous wealth is a virtue.”

And should McCain falter in November, Romney has gained enough national recognition to launch another bid for the White House in 2012.

“Not getting the VP slot is not going to be a major setback,” said Paul Watanabe, a political scientist at the University of Massachusetts at Boston.

Another scenario has Romney running for office in Utah, should Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch decide to retire, said Steve Crosby, dean of the McCormack Graduate School at UMass.

Romney, he said, is enormously popular in Utah, the center of his Mormon faith and site of his rescue of the 2000 Salt Lake City Olympics.

But don’t expect Romney to run for anything in Massachusetts.

“I can’t imagine he has a political future here,” Crosby said, “after making Massachusetts a punch line in his campaign.”

Meanwhile, Romney played the good sport yesterday, praising the Arizona senator’s surprise pick.

“Gov. Palin’s story is one that all Americans will find inspiring,” Romney said in a statement.

“She’s a Washington outsider with a commitment to the conservative principles that will make our nation stronger. I look forward to campaigning for Sen. McCain, Gov. Palin and Republicans all across the country,” Romney said.

McCain had the media guessing all day Thursday and all morning yesterday as to who his running mate would be. At various points, Romney, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge and Democrat-turned-independent Sen. Joe Lieberman all emerged as possible picks.

    John Cronin

Frozone said that Mitt Romney does not have a prime slot and huckabee does. Why would they treat Mitt Romney this way?

  2. Karen Says:

Because I think they really don’t like him. I think they are petty and small and small minded to boot… that is what I think. I also have to wonder if they thought maybe he was going to be the pick and just put hi there thinking they could move him into the correct spot if need be…

disgusting how this all came about!

  3. frozone Says:

Honestly, I think he “was” the pick when they made the schedule. Now that McCain changed his mind (at the last second) for Palin, he should shuffle the speaking schedule as well and give Mitt a better slot.

Not good odds on that happening, though.

    Anyone taking that bet?

  4. Mit 10 Says:

It is bad enough that the evangelicals are gloating over their victory in keeping him off the ticket. He deserves better than this. I guess the RNC takes mormons for granted. McCain is catering to the desires of the evangelicals in this party but could care less but what mormons think because Utah is in the bag. Well Utah will go to John McCain but I will not vote for him.

  5. Karen Says:

I suppose some of them are out there gloating, I just have decided not to read anything for awhile. I don’t want to be even more upset than I am at the petty, small minded people out there…

  6. Chris Says:

do you really think Obama will reach across and pluck Romney for a cabnet posit? Sheesh.

You can put all the lipstick you want on it. This is a LOSER ticket. Plain and simple. Sorry. I don’t have any admiration for someone who chooses fame over family. She made a bad choice, and so did McCain. Now I need to vote for ‘other’.

  7. Karen Says:

Chris, have you considered writing Romney in? Just wondering what your thoughts are on that…K

  8. Chris Says:

Mitt 10. I really think for the first time, Utah might vote for the democrate. We’re not liking this pick. And we’ve been taken forgranted. It’s like going to the dentist. You know you’ve got the cavity. You know it’s going to hurt to fix it. You can do it right away, or wait for 4. Either way, it’s gotta get fixed. So, why not get the Obama thing off the stage in 4. We can work in the down ticket, giving him a RNC house and senate in 2. Then sweep someone who has a few more qualifications.

I also would like the bigots to see just how valued our votes really are. Nevada is lost. Co is now lost. Arizona may fall to Obama too. utah would be a great coup. I’ve e-mailed th obama camp to tell them to start showing up here to get us to flip. Hold our hands. Show us you like us, and won’t take our vote forgranted, like McCain did. I should have known he’d stab us again.

  9. Chris Says:

Yes, But I think we need 4 of obama. I know he’ll reek as a president, and our country will go down the tubbers. But it’s only for 4. We need the refiners fire. We also need to unload the E-s from the party, and let them know in very clear terms that you can’t keep messing with us.

  10. Chris Says:

    John,
Huckabee is the one who ’suggested’ palin because of her wonderful evangalical creeds. And in the past 2 weeks, he’s been hitting mitt at EVERY turn. It would not even suprise me if he’s behind the houses thing.

I think we GOP should let this ticket die a slow and painful death. Then, we can rebuild the party the way Reagan would have wanted it.

  11. Chris Says:

John. Sorry. I forgot to add that Mitt not having a prime time slot stinks to high heaven. I wish Mitt were less of a gentleman and would tell the RNC to shove it up there backsides. He’s taking the wife sailing, and won’t be available to speak.

Then there is those at the convention that might be in revolt mode. Now wouldent that be fun?!

  12. Karen Says:

I sometimes think we need a serious 3rd party. Not some dopey ineffectual thing like the Libertarian party. We need an independent conservative party that is serious and right. No bigotry, no abortion, no compromises, no non-conservative goofy out of line things like gay marriage etc. Just a party that the whole thing adheres to conservative values, is moral and ethical etc… I am sick of the over all corruption, the pandering and the general BS they allow certain groups the fling in our faces… I am pretty bummed by them and in general, they make my stomach need to purge…

I strongly consider writing Mitt in in November. I cannot vote for O because I can not give him any help in destroying this great nation… I won’t do it. I may yet vote for McCain, but I don’t feel at all committed to him. I am sickened by him and his thinking. I like Sarah Palin (kind of) but I listed some of my concerns on another post. It is in caps at the start if you are interested in reading it. I do have many concerns; many.

So, I wish there was a really good 3rd party that would actually work and perform some good with no infighting and ugly behaviours… No Barr, no Nadar, no Paul…

    Sorry, K

    ah, I am such a dreamer… K

  13. Chris Says:

Karen. I can’t give McCain my vote. I’ve thought about it all night. He does not deserve it. It’s time to do exactly what you said. A REAL third party, and not a nutter one.

You need to go over to the SLTrib to see what they ‘re saying about Palin. It’s not pretty. I can’t see this ticket wining at all. I even went out today and bought a bunch of book on tapes, so I am not even tempted to listen to Talk Raido. THey’ve jumped on board this crashing train, and I can’t handle it! I want Obama to win, just so we get over it quicker. If not, he’ll be back in 4, and that’s just not enough time for the warhero/beautyqueen ticket to fix what they broke. Let’s give in for 4, then when the dust settles, start hitting hard for mitt starting in 2010.

  14. Mit 10 Says:

The liberals are just trying to attack early and weaken any chance of her achieving Rock star status. I don’t believe she will make it that far but its not over til the fat lady sings and in 60 days this ticket could be up and down a number of times. Obama may blow it because I just don’t think he has it. There must be something in that Kool aid his supporters are drinking.

Needless to say I want to Write in Romney and I know it will never happen but I can dream and I dream that Utah Writes in Romney and Romney wins Utah by 90%

  15. Chris Says:

    Mitt
I am hoping that Utah does something just like that. We need to show the bigots that WE COUNT, and without us, you lose.

It’s only for 4. i’ve got food storage. We’ll be fine. I survived Carter and Clinton and Ford (although GOP). I’ll survive Obama for 4. Then, Mitt. It torkes me off that Mitt is a ‘wonderful, excellent, well qualified pick’ for a cabnet position. But heaven help him, if he want to run for high office. I guess you need to be an Evangalical for that job. Time to purge the party. Only way is with 4 of Obama. Writing in Mitt will work. It will throw the election.

  16. Mit 10 Says:

What if Mitt won Utah and then gave his delegates to McCain. Then we would send the message that RNC can’t take our votes for granted and allow voters who don’t feel comfortable voting for Obama and opportunity to protest if they feel so inclined.

Maybe that wouldn’t work with Mitt being able to give his delegates away. Does anyone know?

  17. Mit 10 Says:

Chris Write In in Utah does not count, it is like staying home and not voting.

  18. Chris Says:

Mitt10. I don’t want McCain in the whitehouse. He’s proven to me I can’t trust him. He takes us forgranted, and slaps us down at every chance.

i won’t be staying home, but I won’t be voting for McCain. I just can’t do it.

  19. Chris Says:

Mitt10. Then vote Barr. Deny McCain the election. I can’t and won’t vote for this ticket. If you read some of the other threads, you’ll see I’m not alone.

The more I know about this woman, the less I like. Family first? Not her. She talks the talk, but forgets to walk the walk.

  20. Chris Says:

And lets be honest. Would we even have this conversation if Palin were a Mormon Man?

    Nope. Of course not.

Another observation made clear. In the democrate party, they have allowed LDS guys to run for high positions, and their religion NEVER came up. Maybe they are more tolarent. And maybe even….. that’s not a bad place to begin. If enough of us join, we can bring the democrates back into the conversative side and leave he GOP/Bigot party behind once and for all. Utdalls in NM running… Openly LDS. Harry Ried. Openly LDS. Scott Mattheson. Openly LDS. I’m thinking of jumping ship. After all, the ‘church’ has said that BOTH parties have things that we can find in them, that are in line with the teachings. I know bigotry is not one of them in the DNC. Anyone else want to join me in this quest? It might be fun to try to sway the DNC back into the conservative ranks.

  21. zeek Says:

Principles Preceede the Person. When I think of the sanctity of life, conservative judges, limited goverment, and national security I feel inclined to vote the ticket over the alternative. If I give a protest vote I am like the “Upchuck army” who wouldnt vote for the ticket with Romney on it, because of their own bigotry and identity politics. I feel Romney was the best, but McCain made a strategic choice. we will see how it plays out. I dont want to damn an apparent decent, conservative, woman without more research. I dont know what I will do, but my emotions need to work through so my brain can work thoroughly.

  22. Karen Says:

Zeek… well said. I think I am so disappointed and kind of angry that at times I cannot think like I would like to be able to…

Strategy or no, do you think it is possible that it was the evangelicals behind it, or is it just a coindidence??? I have read so many things… what do you think?

    K

  23. John Cronin Says:

    Chris,

Everything is is a state of flux. I have said several times that this election is unique. The pundits have said the same thing, that it is the most fascinating election they have ever witnessed.

We are preparing to go to the rally in St. Louis today, but an AP report this morning said McCain/Palin are heading for the Gulf Coast today, but didn’t say when. So, I’m asking myself, “Is the rally still on, minus McCain?”

As far as the RNC convention goes, the speaker’s slots can be changed, to adjust for a lot of contingencies, but at the end of the day, I think it all boils down to one simple fact: Mitt Romney flat out won the conservative vote this year and McCain was willing to push the envelope and do or say a lot of things to keep Romney from winning. JM has been running for Prez for 25 years and he was not about to let some upstart back East one term Governor biff him out of his last chance to stand in the the Presidential winner’s circle.

BTW, Politico says McCain is “desperate” and that is why he rolled the dice on Palin.

  24. Ron Says:

Hey everyone, wow, all the talk of third party, and not being able to vote for McCain, and write in votes-sounds like you are really upset about the vp pick still. I understand completey, and am really bumbed that the best man will not be our president. But the truth is that either Obama or McCain will be. We can not change that. Now, think back to Ross Perot and the “message” that was sent by voting for him. Their was no message, only 8 years of Slick Willy. The damage that can be caused by BA is way to important. We all need to vote against him in a UNIFIED pick of M/P. That is the only way to be sure that the supreme court does not get sent way-left for years to come. Hold your nose, do the right thing!

  25. Mit 10 Says:

    John Cronin

At the very least Romney could be given a prime time speaking spot. After all he did win the conservative vote. HUCKABEE has a prime time spot. Anything less for Rommey is another slap in the face.

  26. Karen Says:

Write the rnc and express your strong disappointment about Mitt’s speaking slot! K

  27. Mit 10 Says:

    Ron

McCain has picked a RISKY conservative. He should have been the one holding his nose and he should have picked Romney. McCain was afraid to share the spot light with him. A true Maverick would have stood up to the evangelicals and a very competent MORMON MAN. If the REPUBLICANS loose this election it will be because McCain picked the wrong VP.

  28. Mit 10 Says:

    …and picked a very competent Mormon man….

  29. zeek Says:

I know this is no consolation, but what a back handed compliment to Romney supporters as voters of reason. John McCain knew (From experience) that Mitt Romney, and the bulk of his supporters are people who operate from a foundation of fixed principles. I have loved this site along with evangelicals for mitt. I have been taught by the factual arguements, and impressed with the charitable although tough discourse. You suppoters and Mitt have similar qualities. I occassionally checked web sites promoting Mr. Huckabee. There I found I am sure good sincere people but many of the sentiments were bigoted, misinformed, or short sighted. I thought many times… ‘A portion (Who really knows how much) of the evangelical will vote against a Mccain/Romney ticket. And knowing Mr. huckabee (which he curently was doing) would discreetly work against such a ticket JM took a pragmatic view. Knowing some rabid evangelical huckabees would rebel against Romney, and knowing the greater portion of good evangelicals, and other Romney supporters would still vote republican without him, John McCain went for a compromise. He knew us. His end goal was the presidency not as much the country. (That may be a little harsh.) I fear what my vote for M/P may do. A McCain/Palin win in O8, they go for relection or Palin runs in 012, and then relection in 016, and Romney never gets his hands on Washington. But what I fear more than that is the damage Obama/Biden ,and a majority of Democarts can do in 4-8 years.

  30. Renna Says:

Wow - I am stunned by the “buzz”.

You all know how devoted we have been to Romney.

I had a email from Anne’s brother this morning - in it he said that he had just spoken with her - that they were feeling some relief and were very upbeat and dedicated to getting this ticket elected.

Now, if they can bounce back and put the campaign above their hopes, then we must stop and think and consider doing the same. For the sake of the country - they do not want an Obama elected. What a most unselfish motivation at this time. That must be the most unselfish objective for all of us. We have been his supporters because we respect him as a person and as a leader. If we are truly his supporters then we will continue to follow him and trust his judgement.

I have asked Rod if he can give us a resource for letting Mitt and Anne know how we feel, just as we did following the primaries. I told him it was important that we do that. I will let you know if I receive a reply to that request.

In the meantime, this decision needs further analysis before we make hasty decisions for which we will all be sorry. That is difficult for me to say as I have been one of the most outspoken ones when it came to voting for McCain if Mitt was not the VP.

The objective is to WIN. Nothing can be accomplished if we do not have the White House. The struggle to win is predicated on making a statement that trumps the “Hollywood”
mentality of the Democratic Party. We essentially MUST get down and dirty to overcome their impact because they have so many poorly informed voters and they appeal to this level of intelligence through class envy. Mitt and McCain are both affluent contenders and fit right into that visual of the Republicans as rich and unaffected by the misfortunes of the poor. My goodness, look at what they focus on to sway public opinion from the fact that Obama has NO experience and that he will literally destroy this country;s economy - McCain cannot remember how many houses he has and Mitt Romney has just as many. Why on NBC during the Palin announcement, they had a trailer that said “How many houses does this add to the McCain campaign?” - constantly appealing to the ignorant and uninformed by playing the class envy card - a major news network in the tank for the Democrats. We MUST have a totally unexpected angle to confuse the masses and many of those masses were Hilary supporters and women who want a woman on the ticket. It makes perfect “political” sense just not perfect “common” sense to those of us who are more informed and realize what we need as a country. There will never be any reasoning with those who do not listen to reason but simply react to emotion,We must realize that through our social welfare system the wrong people have been having babies - a true and simple fact. Those people are now voters for the Democrats because they continue to get free support through life from them as they continue to increase the entitlement programs. The Sarah Palin choice was an attempt to appeal to those who react primarily with emotion. Although right now we may feel they take us for granted, they are counting on those of us who make decisions by being informed to realize what they must do to win and continue to support the effort.

Evilio - you have been a steadfast supporter of Mitt Romney. You and I have been on the same page on virtually everything. We worked very closely with Mitt’s brother in law here in Florida during the campaign. He is so devoted to this MITT - with a respect and admiration that is quite moving at times. His response to me now and after the primaries was to “trust Mitt’s judgement”. Mitt Romney is NOT A WHINER. He is a man of great dedication and personal fortitude as is his wife and their family. He has taken this in stride and refocused his efforts on electing McCain and other Republicans in November because his dedication is to the country and not to his personal needs or wants. I am sure there is disappointment, but you will not see or hear that from him at this time as he does not want anything to jeopardize a win in November. The ultimate unselfish act for this country.

We must AT LEAST put our vote where our mouth is and continue to support the candidate whom we know is the best for America - MITT ROMNEY. Right now - HE is asking us to support the Republican ticket. WE repeatedly accuse others of hippocricy in their beliefs and actions - let us not be recipients of that same criticism by abandoning our candidate in his greatest hour of need. Our support is desperately needed. What we can do in addition to giving that support is push for a VISIBLY PUBLIC position for Mitt in this administration. I have sent messages to the RNC and McCain Campaign to announce such a position ASAP if they want our continued support. If you can all do that - it will be a big help. It will keep Mitt in the public eye for the next four years and show America just how excellent he would be as President in 2012. Just as Mitt has done, we now must get over this and refocus our emotions and efforts to working alongside him to get this ticket elected. Let us not abandon him now - it is always darkest before the dawn.

  31. Mit 10 Says:

    OK

I am not interested in campaigning for McCain.

I will gladly campaign against Obama.

  32. Ron Says:

Renna–Very well said! When Mitt suspended his campaign, he was putting country over personal, we should do the same.

  33. Ron Says:

Mit 10-Believe me, I really feel the same as you, I remember when McCain lied about Mitt and the whole Iraq withdrawl timeline thing durring the debate. I wanted to reach through the television and (well, you get the picture). Mitt was the very first candidate that I really have gotten excited about since Reagan. He is the only one that I have ever actually sent money to. It saddens my day to think that he is really out of it , now. That all said, my fear of Obama is SO huge, I must support the only real way of defeating him.

  34. JA Says:

Renna - Thank you so much for your message. I am putting aside my feelings of anger and sadness to support McCain/Palin. As disgusted as I am by the role affirmative action and class warfare have played in this election, and as flawed as I believe a McCain/Palin ticket is, it is a million times better than the alternative. We MUST stop Obama.

  35. Mit 10 Says:

Thanks Ron- I need to grieve. I guess I fall into the category of those “who react primarily with emotion.” Keep up the good work in trying to bring others a long.

I hope Mitt gets a prime time slot now the President is going to Orleans. Bobby Jindal is managing this well. Be interested in how MSM spins this. I am grateful for our President.

  36. Chris Says:

I am doing what’s right. I’m switching parties. Keep in mind, the DNC has no issues with our faith. For a short 4 yr season, I’ll be a democate. Maybe then, we WON’T BE TAKEN FOR A RIDE OF A CLIFF.

This is bigger than Romney. This is about the bigtory in our own party. it’s now time to show them we can’t be taken forgranted.

  37. Chris Says:

JA. Sorry, cant drink the koolaide any more. McCain has shown his TRUE colors, and they are not pretty. You can put lipstick on it all you want, but it’s the same bigtory dressed up in a cheerleaders outfit.

  38. Mit 10 Says:

JA do you think Bigotry played a part in this election. I wonder how many people are enlisted in Hucks army? Was it enough that it would have brought down a McCain/Romney ticket?

  39. Chris Says:

    Karen,
I wrote the DNC and told them my reasons for leaving for a season.

If the rights of the unborn, the USSC et al were so vital, why dident McCain think about it before he picked an unqualifed pretty face?

If he has so little respect for our votes, it’s time to take it elsewhere - just for a short time. All thesese things are important to me too. Which is why I’m working on only the down tickets. Can’t do the up ticket. I refuse to allow the Huckabee and his bigot squad win.

I’m not the only one who’s made this choice. Others are jumping fast and furious.

  40. Chris Says:

    Sorry Karen. Meant the RNC.

  41. Renna Says:

    Chris:

Getting a bit skeptical about your comments. Surely we are all disappointed, but you are too radical and quick to go to the other side for me. I encourage everyone to think about Chris’s comments as he may not be a true Mitt supporter but someone trying to mess with the minds of his staunch followers at a time of perceived weakness to garner support for the DNC. If you consider the historical actions of the democrats and the radical religious groups like Bin Laden and Rev. Wright and the Black Liberation Theology, they prey on the weaknesses of others and move into their minds, convincing them that THEY can help them out of their misery if only they will support their efforts. No true follower of Governor Romney would EVER concede to supporting a ticket or a party that encourages and supports partial and/or late term abortion or the dismantling of our nuclear weapons arsenal in order for our enemies to like us better. Nor would they EVER support a candidate who has NO experience and wants to steal and redistribute the wealth of hard working folks.

As of this moment, Chris, unless you present evidence to prove me wrong - I am of the opinion that you are a “seminar contributer” trying to work on behalf of Obama. Mitt supporters beware.

  42. Douglas M White Says:

I enjoy what everyone has to say. I will write in Romney if that is legal in Texas, or I will vote for Barr. But, on principal I will not vote for McCain–I never trusted him, and this was just one betayal too many. I agree that this is about more that just Mitt. It’s about anti-Mormon bigotry. And, no the liberal Democrats aren’t any better about it than the HuckaBIGOTS. I heard some HORRIBLE things from liberals on TV this year: Al Sharpton, Lawrence O’Donnell, Bill Maher, Christopher Hitchens and on and on. Philosophically, I’m a conservative, but we have to show the religious right trogladites that they don’t run the party, and we WILL NOT sit at the back of the bus!! We cannot depend on liberal bigots to help us on this– they hate us (1) because Mormons are pro-life, and (2) because they hate all religious people. The religious right fascists hate us because they they think we’re hell-bound heretics, (and a little because they see us as competition for converts.) THIS IS A FREE COUNTRY, AND WE MUST SHOW THAT IT IS ANTI-AMERICAN AND ANTI-CONSTITUTIONAL TO BE ANTI-MORMON!!

  43. Brent Says:

The primaries are over. Our guy lost. Pallin is not my first choice but it is McCain’s. If the party feels strongly against that they could vote in someone else. But I don’t see that happening.

its time to regroup for other races.

She is better then Huck. I can tell you one thing Huck’s chances are zero for another chance to run.

I don’t see Romney being chosen for anything in the cabinet.

As for voting democrat? Obama the Markist is still a Markist.

  44. Mit 10 Says:

Renna Chris was at the Committed Luncheon. She has been a stanch Romney supporter. I have heard many LDS people say they would support Obama if Romney was not Pres/VP. I have been surprised but it is the reality of the 2008 election.

We need time to grieve. This is a safe, healthy place to do this in. Give us time. There are many disenfranchised LDS people about. Palin is a EVANGELICAL Conservative. As of today that seems like the only kind of person who is acceptable any where near the White House. And that is sad when a qualified good man is rejected because of religion.

  45. Ron Says:

LDS friends-wouldn’t voting against our ticket in retribution, and, because you feel slighted, (and denying the country what we all believe in) be as bad as what those have done to cause the slighting?

  46. JoeinMA Says:

For those wishing 4 years of Obama to prove some kind of point while you are stamping your feet like children, just remember….The Democrats already control the House and Senate and will increase that lead. With Obama in the White House, we can quickly become a nation with laws that puts us to the left of France. It will be ugly and hard to change back once the breach is made. Vote with logic (and maybe fear of the worse), not with retribution due to your loyalty to Mitt.

  47. Mit 10 Says:

Ron It would. Romney is setting the example on how to handle this from a republican perspective. All healthy and good for the party. Like I said before, I think McCain has Utah in the bag.

  48. 2thePoint Says:

Another update on talk re Palin (from Jonathon Martin of Politico):

    Palin electrifies conservative base

  49. Tammy Says:

Renna-I am about as staunch a Romney supporter as they come. I agree with Chris completely and I resent you saying that because of her beliefs she must be an Obama supporter. You can call me a radical too if you would like, it doesn’t matter to me. Because of my conservative beliefs I’ve been called old fashioned as if that was an stinging insult instead of a compliment. I live very close to the MA border so I knew of Gov Romney long before he decided to run for Pres. The reason I supported him was that he fulfilled what I was looking for in a candidate. I wanted to be able to have respect for my candidate in all ways, not just pick someone who was the lesser of two evils. I also wanted a Pres that would continue with the same conservative principals they showed in the campaign. I supported Pres Bush, but he didn’t turn out to be the conservative Pres we were all hoping for did he? To vote for McCain after everything we know about him and his values, I just can’t do it. I could have with Mitt as VP because I would have been voting for him and McCain would have been just along for the ride. I can’t vote for Obama either, but I see where Chris is coming from. I believe this country needs a wakeup call and life will not end if Obama is elected. I will either write in Mitt or vote third party. I do believe it sends a message even if it ends up getting the Dem elected. I’m a conservative before I’m a Repulican.

  50. Douglas M White Says:

I agree wih Tammy. I also like to hear what Chris has to say.

Renna , You make good points and good sense , except I am sometimes too hardheaded for my own good . A couple of things could sway me to changing my opinion and my vote.
    1) I would like Governor Romney (himself) send us a message on this site asking us to vote for McCain . (only way to know that he is listening to us )
    2) I would like to see a poll of only Romney supporters show that they have switched their vote to McCain overnight , even though we have been raped , pillaged and fondled by our own Republican Party .
3)Put Mitt in a better speaking arrangement in the convention , in other words , major time on prime time . (key note )
If all of these things happen I might change my mind.
I value all of your opinions and this why I am considering .

  52. MM Says:

Well, Chris basically gives the impression she believes Sarah is a bad mother for doing this. But Chris basically lives on this blog. HMMM

  53. Mit 10 Says:

GMR said he waited for his family to be raised before he got into politics.

I don’t think Palin will be a rock star but I think she will be a CHRISTIAN ROCK STAR.

  54. RL Says:

I saw an interview with Sarah Palin some time back, and said to myself then, if I wasn’t a strong supporter of Mitt, that She would have made a good choice as a leader.

However for those that can’t stand voting for McCain, please don’t waste your vote by not voting or writting in Mitt.

    Vote for Bob Barr.
There is no risk that He can get in, but it will wake up the other parties to the fact that they are out of touch if a 3rd party gets enough votes to at least show up on the radar. When Ross Perot got whatever it was, it was an eye opener, and indirectly led to us later getting a more conservative house and senate, and having the contract with America which outlined some specific actions.

  55. Chris Says:

Palin does not excite this part of the base.

I don’t respect her. Family first? Not if you can have FAME first. Sorry, the ‘base’ is nothing but a bunch of bigots.

I was never a Obama supporter. I’m still not. But if the country needs the refiners fire, Obama is the one to light the match. I feel that the DNC actaully does respect my faith. I’ve Never heard anyone over there tearing down another, because of the pew he sits in.
But I heard it all the time from those who claimed to be ‘christian’.

Refiners fire. We’ll do just fine. If Mitt is not qualified for Veep, then he not qualified for a cabnet position. Stop putting lipstick on the elephant. I can’t trust McCain anymore. I can’t do it, and won’t. Many, many here in Utah are doing exactly what I’m doing. Let’s show the bigots where our votes do count. They say were a very small insignifcant minority. Let’s show them how small, when we don’tvote for McCain in Bloc.

We’ll be fine folks. in 2 years, Obama will get a GOP house and Senate. 2 after that, the evanglicals will ask us back into the party, and promise never to pull this crap again.

  56. Chris Says:

MM. My kids have this thing called SCHOOL during the week. I also do work from home, and can check in now and then. AND my computer is right here in the family room.

I’m not saying she’s a ‘bad mother’. I feel she’s not putting her family first. I guess that’s the evanglaicals idea of family first, unless it’s a mormon.

  57. Chris Says:

    Joe in MA.
Mccain has pushed us over the cliff. My parachute is to show the BIGOTS that we count and matter.

That is my purpose now. Purging the GOP of bigots. But I’ll be doing it from the DNC side of the river.

  58. Chris Says:

    Renna
    My ‘creeds’.

I am a retired Navy vet. FEMALE, thank you. I retired, got married at 42. I’m LDS. I watied to find my hubby until my committmet with the Navy was completed. When I met my husband, we were sealed in the SL Temple in 2000. I was 42 then. We adopted EIGHT kids from DCFS. All different sizes and shapes. I have never voted democrate. But I will not vote for Mccain. I’m not a seminar poster. I have been here. I have served and got pushed over by the man who said I was equal. It appears he lied to us. Today, the bigots won. Yes, I dread 4 years of Obama. That’s clear. But we need the refiners fire. We needed Carter to get Reagan. We need Obama to get someone else who treats us with dignity. I am raising my LDS kids to be president, if they want. What do I tell them? That I allowed the bigots to chase us out again? And by the way, don’t bother running for president. Your the wrong religion. This is not about Mitt anymore. It’s about the future of our party. We must do it, and it must happen NOW. The power needs to be removed from the bigots before the next election cycle.

  59. Renna Says:

    Chris and Tammy:

I understand your emotions BUT if you are TRULY Romney supporters as you say you are - then you will follow his lead as a man of great dignity and leadership. No if ands or buts, nothing you rationalize can justify to me why you would choose to abandon him at this time of great need. I encourage you to find a way to accept it and do the right thing for America - that is what Mitt is doing.

As far a Chris’s dedication - do not underestimate the resolve of the Democrats to take advantage of Romney supporters in their hour of disappointment - be suspicious of anyone and everyone who tries to divert us from our mission - A Republican Victory in November.

  60. Douglas M White Says:

Republican means nothing to me. Conservative, constitutional, tolerant of ALL religious faiths in this free country– those are the things that mean something to me. Maybe McCain and his “Maverick-masquerading” RINOS need to see what a maverick can do. If McCain can pass over a fine man of the quality of Mitt Romney because McCain IS POWER HUNGRY AND GRUDGE HOLDING– maybe he needs a little taste of HIS OWN MEDICINE, maybe he needs to lose MI,CO,NV,ID,UT,… AND AZ!! After all, he got AL and a “soulmate”!!!!

  61. Renna Says:

    Chris:

Not sure what your military status has to do with the discussion - I am a retired 1st Lt. from the Air Force Nurse Corps. That only makes me more passionate to make the right decisions for our country - I am not LDS but I placed my faith in Mitt Romney, not because of his religion but because of his experiences and his personal achievements with his ability to lead. I understand that he has held very high offices within your church - obviously a very devoted LDS - I would suggest you take that as your inspiration in this situation and follow his lead. He knows what this country needs and knows that it cannot be accomplished if we are the losers. Your bitterness and resentment for the “evangelicals” (and let me say that the majority of evangelicals do not hold the opinions of the “fundamentalist, loud mouthed christians - they are just as upset with them as you are)is so obvious - do not allow that to guide you into a decision that you will regret later. Give yourself time to settle down, absorb and digest this situation and pray for guidance. There are too many reliable sources who feel this was the right decision based on the playing field we are on with the Dems.

  62. Chris Says:

My feelin is this: I know what Obama is. I know who he is. He is a known enity for me. McCain is an unknown, who swoons at every threat.

Can’t put this one aside. It’s bigger than Mitt.

  63. Chris Says:

Reena, I totaly disagree. Sorry, I REFUSE to vote for anyone supported by the bigot squad. They cannot win this one. It will ONLY serve to keep us down. I am raising kids to become whatever they want. If I let this go, what else? Humm?

I know who and wha Obama is. I don’t know who and what mccain is. I dont trust him anymore. And I WILL NOT be told to sit down, shut up and vote for the Evangalical choice. Not this time. Not ever again.

It’s only for four folks. Everyone is trying to put lipstick on the elephant. Does not work for me. I’ve been around enough to know when I’m being lied to. I’m being lied to once again by the GOP.

  64. Chris Says:

    Reena,
You new here. From Huckles army perhaps? I WILL NOT be told how to vote. I WILL NOT hold my nose and remain second class. I will vote for what I know. Obama has the matches to light the refines fire. I’m going for the heat. WE CANT LET THIS EVER HAPPEN AGAIN.

  65. Mit 10 Says:

Chris They may be changing this web site. If you would like to keep in touch contact me at gtparry@yahoo.com

  66. Mit 10 Says:

Paulee and Mike Just read your post McCain said he will need Mitt by his side in Jan. A wave of healing just came over me. Maybe McCain recognizes and will seriously use Mitts talents to work on the economy. WOW.

  67. Mit 10 Says:

Come back Paulee and Mike and Karen. We are working through this. 2tp really understands that and I know we can all keep this internet bond that we have formed alive because we all agree that Mitt Romney is a great leader.

All of these post are helping me. I love both points of view and I feel grateful for this venue. Let’s keep it together.

  68. Chris Says:

    Mitt 10.

Unless McCain has a Harriet Meiers moment, then I can’t come back and vote for him.

I wanted to win, not lose. Palin is so over her head, and I cannot trust McCain’s judgement.

  69. Tami Says:

Wow! Just got finished reading through all the varied posts. I’m a bit shocked at some of the extreme views but it’s a free world, and we’re all entitled, right?

For me, it’s not about the Republican party. It’s about Conservativism. I am a true blue Conservative and always will be. I have to do what I feel is best for America and that is voting for the “MOST” conservative candidate - and that is John McCain.

When I think of the alternative which is Obama, I shudder. I can’t stand to think of what awful things he can do in 4-8 years time. We have to stop him. I will do my part by checking John McCain’s AND Sarah Palin’s names on the ballot.

While they’re not my first choice (or second, or third) he is the candidate that is closest to the values I hold dear. Pro Life, Pro Family, No New Taxes, Drilling and other sources of energy here in our own land and the Supreme Court decisions is a BIGGY for me!!

I am very disappointed that Mitt is not the VP! I know that you all are too. I’m sure he is as well. That’s life! We get back up and move on. We have to stop Obama.

I do not believe that this nation needs a “refiner’s fire”. I understand some of your points, but that is far too extreme for me and I just can’t go there.

I believe many of our nation’s problems right now are not only Pres. Bush’s fault but are the fault of our Congress. We have to get a Republican Majority in there once again.

I do think McCain will use Mitt somewhere on his cabinet (if that is even what Mitt wants… do we know this for sure?) He can still benefit this great nation by doing work there. I’m moving on. I’m still very disappointed, but I am moving on.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions and views (isn’t it great to be free to do this?) but I will still be voting for John McCain!!

  70. Chris Says:

    Thanks Mitt10.
    I’m Chrystinaandrada@yahoo.com

  71. Chris Says:

Let me get this one straight:
Mitt is good enough to be ‘by JSM’s side - but not good enough for Veep?”

McCain is stringing us again for votes folks. Read into it. He’s done it before, he’ll do it again. Let’s not be dumb. Let’s send the message to the bigots that we will not be taken for a ride again.

  72. Chris Says:

    Tami
That’s fine for you. But I can’t trust McCain anymore. I find his judgement lacking. Like I said a few ticks ago… Unless he has a harriet miers moment, I can’t vote for him.

  73. Chris Says:

Renna. I will not be told to sit down and vote for anyone who is suppored by the evangalical’s. They’ve screwed with us once too often.

It’s time to take our country back. First step? Deep six McCain.

  74. SED Says:

Here is an article I just read. Mitt will be ready for 2012 if McCain falls.

    http://www.boston.com/news/politics/2008/articles/2008/08/30/romney_readies_for_white_house_run_if_mccain_fails/

  75. EVELIO PEREZ Says:

    CHRIS , 100% WITH YOU , GO GIRL …..

  76. Mit 10 Says:

SED When I read that article I think that supporting JM means weakening GMR chances of winning in 2012. Palin will be the darling by then and if Hillary runs, the GOP will put up Palin.

Cabinet position or not, it is hard to get excited about JM.

  77. Chris Says:

What makes me think that romney will get a cabinet posit? It’s not like McCain has a good track record on picking the best and brightest. Or even being honest with us.

This is just another ploy to get our votes. THEY think were too stupid to see it. Put the bandaide on it! We’ll make them think were not bleeding! Not this gal. McCain has opened my eyes wide.

Evilio. Go to deseretnews.com to see what others are saying aobut this. It looks like Utah will not be going McCain, if I’m reading the cards right.

Push McCain for that Harriet Miers moment -the sooner the BETTER.

  78. SED Says:

I absolutely agree. I believe like many of us feel that if McCain wins; any hope of seeing Mitt Romney as POTUS one day will be gone. Sarah Palin will be the future and she’ll run with Bobby Jindal in 2012 or 2016.

I love Sarah Palin. I think she is going to do a great job. HOWEVER, her choice by McCain screams of pandering and identity politics. Two things that I abhor of the democratic party and never thought that I would see in my life time in the gop. If she had served a full term as governor and had been re-elected; I’d probably feel different. Especially if I believed she was hired on the merits over Mitt Romney.

Now, Mitt does not even get a primetime speaking spot at the RNC. Another slap in the face. In addition to the lies and bigotry during the primaries.

Chris says that we had Carter so we could get to Reagan. That is true. However, we didn’t have the Global War On Terror. When the time comes I may vote for McCain/Palin; not for John, but for Sarah. I will not donate money

  79. Chris Says:

    Sed,
At the time of CArter, we had some real problems this country. Vietnam was wrapped up, but not cleaned up. Carter ran on that, and on FORD inexpereince - even though Ford had been president for a year plus.

I can’t vote for McCain/Palin. I agree that if I had been given a few more years, a bit more water under her bridge and some REAL TIME experience.. ok. How about SHE become a cabinet member? I don’t believe McCain for one second he wants Mitt at his side.

A sidenote. Did everyone know that Obama out-raised McCain — in UTAH? Not a good sign for the warhero, eh?

  80. SED Says:

    Chris,

Not a good sign at all. Did we all know that Mitt raised $20 million dollars for McCain. That without Mitt, people like Meg Whitman and Steve Schmidt would not be a part of McCain’s shabby campaign. I personally hope that Mitt does not take a cabinet position. I would hope he does not repeat the path his father took and forged his own way.

  81. Chris Says:

Most in Utah were withoolding funds to see who the Veep pick was. Mitt was pretty frustrated. He did bring in more cash than McCain. but Obama brought in more - and Utah is not known for it’s left wing poltics. That can’t been a warm fuzzie news for McCain’s camp.

There will be no need to fret over the cabinet posit. I’m quite sure that Obama will not tap Romney as anything. I know Mac is all talk, no action. I can’t trust him.

    Pray for Harriet Miers Moment.

  82. Mit 10 Says:

I still think JM will win Utah. I will be really surprised if he does not.

If JM wins then a cabinet position is all that is left. Palin is in and will be running against Hillary in 2012.

  83. Brian Says:

While very dissapointed Romney was not VP, I was initially excited about Palin because I had often thought she would be a good VP for Romney. My inital reaction was that it made me inclined to vote for McCain. Now, I will just have to see how I feel about it on election day.

Bob Barr?? Ridiculous. Anyone contemplating voting for that guy needs to read up on him–even at wikipedia. Romney better not be dissed at the convention.

    Bags

  84. Karen Says:

Much of the convention is to be canceled due to Gustvo and already some dems are saying the repubs are being punished for being baaaaaaaad

    K

  85. Brian Says:

I know most of the first day has been suspended (probably a good thing due to the unpopularity of Bush and Chenny). But whatever they have, it would be a big mistake not to adequately acknowledge Romney’s status during the primary and as the most effective surrogate for McCain.

    Bags

  86. Mit 10 Says:

    I said it first.

  87. Chris Says:

Romney should cut his loses. Wecan’t trust McCain any farther than we toss him.

Don’t be so sure about Utah. Were not happy campters here. Mitt will be dissed. Huckles the clown has a prime time spot and his girl on the ticket. We lost, all the way around. It’s time to focus on 12. I know it will be hard for everyone. But we CAN do it! By golly, were Americans! Let’s not give in to the slimebag McCain. He’s baiting us with the ‘cabinet’ position. Just like he baited us with the Veep slot. It’s now time tell JM that his game is over.

  88. Douglas M White Says:

I’m sorry, a cabinet position for MR isn’t enough. I want MR to be POTUS in 2012, and that can only happen if McCain loses. We need to work on getting a Republican Congress at least by 2010, and then they and Mitt can do good things in 2012. A pox on McCain.

  89. Mit 10 Says:

The poll that Nate Gunderson took about the Palin pick shows majority unhappy. Nate says he thinks its the Libs but I wonder if it is the Mormons.

Still 60 days can heal the damage and by that time everyone will be scared into voting for McCain because the O.

I would love to see Romney run in 2012 but I think our country would have to be really desperate before they would ever agree to put a Mormon in office.

  90. Stephen Says:

Even though I have been an avid Mitt supporter it would have been difficult for McCain and Mitt to beat Obama. People vote for the President, not the VP. The context for this election is far different that 4 or even 8 years ago. People are ready for a change regardless of what Mitt offers.

Mitt was way ahead of the other candidates but the most qualified person doesn’t always get the position. This is the case with Mitt unfortunately.

Again, I do not see how McCain beats Obama within the current political and economic climate. It is one thing to be a republican and another to analyze the current conditions with eyes wide open.

McCains pick Palin, is desperate at best. Every so often either party gets taken to the woodshed until they piece a decent platform together with a good candidate. After Nixon we endured Carter, which brought us Reagan. Reagan had the right stuff at a challenging time. Perhaps, Mitt will have the opportunity to rise in a similar manner.

A person’s track record matters much more to me than someone who says - “well, I am or he or she is a conservative.” As some may know a conservative can mean a wide variety of things. It isn’t a simple catch all phrase that many like to toss out. It is a political philosophy with many writings from different parts of the political spectrum.

Hopefully, the next term will not inflict much long term damage. Goodness knows with spending out of control, even by the republicans, some rethinking and / or relearning of what has effectively worked in the past can be modified and used for the future.

Here’s to 2012. Hopefully, Mitt is around to lead the charge! That would be a good ending and a new beginning.

  91. Mit 10 Says:

I am in your camp but I don’t think we can camp here much longer. We should start our own web site -Romney 2012 and

  92. Douglas M White Says:

Well, I think 2 years of Obama bin Biden ought to make them pretty desperate! Republican Congress in 2010,and Preident Mitt Romney in 2012!!

  93. Brian Says:

    Chris,

I agree with Renna, you strike me as an Obama troll. I have no problem with a “hockey mom” going from the PTA to City to Gov and then accepting a VP slot.

Can’t even imagine a Romney supporter voting for Barr after you read up on him at Wikipedia — ridiculous

Seen nothing about Huckabee suggesting Palin. I can’t imagine that ego suggesting anyone but himself.

Have nothing against Palin as an evangelical. plenty of evangelicals voted for Romney. It is just the few hardcore huckbigots that I can’t stand.

By all early accounts you are clearly wrong — Palin does excite the base.

If McCain wins, I think a cabinet position would be great for Romney — being an executive is what he is best at. A McCain win means in is unlikely Romney ever becaomes POTUS — and i am fine with that. I can live with the fact he lost, especially if the next generation of GOP leaders like Palin and Jindal take over.

Am I going to vote for McCain — not sure. Vote for Obama or Barr, of course NOT!!

You do seem to be a troll — sorry if you are not, just can’t possibly agree with anything you say.

    Bags

  94. Mit 10 Says:

Let hope so and lets hope he does not get to much accomplished and I really hope Nancy Pelosi gets a pink slip.

  95. Mit 10 Says:

Brian She is not a troll. She is upset and is working through her feelings. I appreciate many of her thoughts because they do reflect many of my feelings. This is therapy.

  96. Renna Says:

    Chris:

Your comments are really off the wall now.
At this point, I can only hope the readers of this site realize that you area an angry loser and disregard your comments. You are losing perspective and not thinking clearly. You know what and who Obama is??? Where have you been? That is the problem, Chris, no one knows the REAL Obama. John McCain fought and suffered for his country then served 25 years in the Senate - is he perfect - certainly not and I do not know many people and that includes politicians who are. But at the very least, he does not run around with terrorists who bombed the Pentagon and worshipped in a Black Liberation Theology Church for 20 years - a church that preaches white hate and anti american sentiments. You need to go back on your medicine if you can even consider voting for him. I have confidence that most readers are now suspect of your comments and will retreat to their own common sense thinking. No one is trying to tell you how to vote - you just need to chill out with your extreme comments - they are quite disrespectful to the man who brings us all together on this site. I think Anne Marie may need to get involved - hope she is reading your comments.

  97. LeEric Says:

    Brian, 8:27

I likewise had considered the idea that Palin would have been a good VP to Mitt Romney. I am bias, She is my governor.

Like a few others have pointed out, I am concerned that Mitt’s window of opportunity will be lost forever. If McCain/Palin wins the election. Depending on McCains future, Sarah very well might be running for President in 2012/16/20.

In my life time, Dan Quayle was one VP who did not pursue the Presidency. Whether same would happen with Palin?
Also, Mitt could run against McCain and/or Palin (depending on the future) in 2012 and if he wins, could reselect Palin as VP? Then Palin could run 4/8 years later?

All are big ifs. Then of course, somewhere along the line (this year? I hope not), the Democrats will finally win an election, throwing any of our conjured up plans into a tizzy.

I had a personal promise to donated S100.00 a month to McCain if he had selected Mitt (Aug/Sep/Oct/Nov). So his selection of the Princess (Sarah Palin) has saved me 400.00 bucks. I will vote for her and McCain, as the alternative is terrible thing to think about.

I am still at peace, that Mitt wasn’t selected President or VP. For all we know, his life may have been spared.

    LeEric
    Anchorage AK

  98. Brian Says:

Just seems too extreme. Have you read-up on Bob Barr’s antics since he left congress? Examine his personal life and positions.

Vote for obama? Join the Dems?? Crticize Palin as putting fame over family? Sorry, and hope i don’t get banned, but that is crazy talk.

Look, as i said initially, I am not sure if I vote. While I only recently discovered this site and only posted once or twice, I have been posting for Romney on the internet and battling the huckbigots for months. I have probably posted hundreds of comments and spent hours voting on stupid, irrelvant on-line polls. But that stuff above is nuts. I know it is tough but a little perspective has to be maintained.

I can accept that Romney lost but disgree with McCain on so much don’t know if i can vote for him. If he wins, romney unlikely to ever be POTUS and I think a cabinet position would be great. As long as the Huckster never amounts too anything that is fine.

  99. Mit 10 Says:

Brian I appreciate your thoughts also… I was wondering do you think that a McCain/Romney ticket could have beat Obama? I wonder if the huckabigots would have brought it down. James Dobson would not endorse McCain until McCain picked an Evangelical Christian. I don’t think he would have endorsed a McCain/Romney.

  100. Mit 10 Says:

LeEric Do you like Palin as your governor? Do you think she is lying about trying to get her brother in law fired? Have you heard the baby rumor? I don’t believe that. I know a runner here that never looks pregnant.

  101. 2thePoint Says:

I agree with you, Brian, about the Huckaworm. Let’s face it folks, his army is very organized and persistent. They are rubbing their hands together for 2012 and have set up fan clubs in many states and are pushing for more. On his Huckpac website they are showing a series of videos showing the goings-on at the convention (Sarah Huckabee - daughter of MH is featured). It’s interesting and they’re doing a good job. The Schmuckster is blogging and talking to his people.

I think Mitt was rightly focused on helping the Mac and will continue. Someone should suggest to him that he blog more regulary to his supporters - Renna? You have a connection. :)

  102. Brian Says:

I believed Romney really might have helped in some of the key battleground states such as MI, NV, CO and perhaps others (while recognizing that VPs historically do very little) and WOULD NOT HAVE COST MCCAIN A SINGLE STATE HE WOULD OTHERWISE HAVE WON due to huckbigots. Romney actually did fine with many evangelicals. The Huckster, Mccain and Romney roughly split the evangelical vote. If you look where Huck did best Mccain has a commanding lead in most of those states.

Yes, i think a McCain/Romney ticket “could” have won — could have lost.

As for Dobson, don’t know if he would have endorsed mccain/romney. He may have as he (and I usually am very critical of him) did not endorse during the primary and, I believe, actually did endorse mccain after saddleback and before Palin

  103. Brian Says:

Perhaps the only positve to a McCain victory is that while it may hurt Romney’s chances — it also hurts the Huckster. It does set up Palin in 2012 if Mccain were not to seek a second term (though huck or romney could still challenge). And, as I said, I can accept Romney’s loss as long as it ushers in the new era of GOP leaders and not Huck.

  104. Mit 10 Says:

RENNA For months you have come to this web site and said “NO MITT NO MONEY NO MCCAIN.”

  105. 2thePoint Says:

Huckahypocrite said many times in the last few weeks that he wasn’t against Romney because of his religion(a big Pinocchio on that one) that he and his ilk objected to his RECORD.

Question: Where can Mitt serve and what can he do for the next 4 years to effectively demonstrate that he was sincerely converted to the pro-life position so that argument from the Taliban-Evangelicals has no teeth - so they REALLY look stupid when they throw that at him if he runs in 2012?

Mitt was also blasted for his dog-in-the-carrier-on-top-of-the-car story. This may sound off the wall, but yesterday I saw news reports of the good folks leaving New Orleans on the train. They weren’t allowed to take their animals on the train but could leave them in carriers with folks who would transport them away from danger and take care of them until the hurricane blows over.

I had this kinda crazy-good idea that Mitt and Anne could go to those temporary animal shelters and help with the care and feeding of the dogs and cats as part of their contribution to the Gustav relief efforts. That would effectively dispel the notion that the Romneys are cruel to animals - don’t care about dogs. Maybe do a remote from time to time with the convention from the animal shelter… (That was such a stupid criticism of the Romneys, anyway.)

Just trying to think of pro-active ways to nullify some of the criticisms Mitt endured this go round in case he runs again

These past few days are taking its toll… :)

  106. Karen Says:

    Mitt 10:

Baby rumor? What is this? I have not heard and have actually been avoiding the news for the last few days… I have not heard this. Please enlighten me~!

  107. Mit 10 Says:

and I was stunned when you jumped on your high horse and started chastising us for not being good little republicans.

  108. Mit 10 Says:

Karen It is tabloid garbage. But Palin announced she was pregnant at 7 months and she did not look pregnant. And her oldest daughter was gone from school because of Mono around that time. So the rumor is that it is her daughters baby.

It is garbage. Mean spirited and I know a runner who has had 6 children and you don’t realize that she was pregnant until she shows up at church with a new baby.

  109. Chris Says:

Why are not Utah deleates invited to some of these big events at the convention?

Oh yea. We’ll follow the bigots and vote the way they tell us to anyway. Not this time.

And for the record? I heard huckles on several news outlets pushing Palin. SHe’s a ‘REAL’ conservative. (read Evangalical). What about her record? What record. Never mind. Did ya hear the one about the warhero and the beauty queen?

  110. Brian Says:

As I said, have only visited this site the last few weeks, but Chris and Mit10 strike me as trolls.

Vouching for each other; voting for Obama, the Dems or Bob Barr; critizing Palin for puting “fame before family”; stoking the (real)antagonism with evangelicals. And now bringing up the “baby rumor.”

Trolls — or you do need to get back on the meds. I’m out.

    Bags

  111. Chris Says:

    Renna.
Disinfranchised is a better word than angry. Cut me off. Who give a care? Not McCain. He is a liar. I can’t and wont EVER trust him again. Period.

Yes, I’m angry at being taken advantage of once again. I won’t let it happen again. Do what you see fit. As for me and my family, we won’t be voting this ticket this time. Deep six this ticket or pray for McCain to have a Harriet Meiers moment and dumb the princess.

  112. Chris Says:

Brian, I did not bring up any baby rumors. Heck when does this miracle magic and totally awesome woman have time to even MAKE a baby?

No. I don’t like her and I do not have respect for some (here it is Renna) who put FAME OVER FAMILY.

Deal with it. That’s my opinion, and I’m sticking to it. I’m not a troll. Trolls are short. I’m tall.

  113. Chris Says:

    Brian.
I’m a mom of eight (I can count) I would respect her (and I no longer do) had she said ‘not this time. I have a new baby who needs me’.

THIS is the way the Evangalicals take care of their families? Fame over Family. Period.

  114. 2thePoint Says:

Brian, don’t go. This place hasn’t been like this except for the last two days.

  115. Chris Says:

Yea dougi! That’s EXACTLY my point! This is much bigger than just Mitt Romney. The is the direction of the party. Do we continue to be taken foregranted? Do we allow ourselves to be taken to the edge to smell the flowers, then get pushed over? I for one, and damm tired of having the Evanglaical Taliban telling me to sit down, fork over my cash and hey, you can’t run for high office. Your duty is just to serve the coffee and pay the money. Sorry Renna. I don’t agree with getting along to get along. 2 years of Obama will give us control of house and senate. Damage control begins in 2. 2 after that, we get a REAL conservative, whom the Taliban can’t trash, because they’ve moved on to another party or the KKK.

  116. Douglas M White Says:

Brian, what exactly is a troll? And how do you know they’re bad? I do know what an ad hominum remark is. And I know what a RINO is.And I know what a sychophant is. And I know a “maverick” who almost ran as John Kerry’s VP.

  117. 2thePoint Says:

Chris, we know you’re very disenfranchised. We all felt shock and consternation when Mitt wasn’t chosen. We’re still processing.

When you say: “This is the way the Evangelicals take care of their families? Fame over Family. Period” You’re doing the same thing that was done to Mitt - generalizing about his cult religion, his money, his houses, etc. You know your statement isn’t a fair assessment of evangelicals.

Mitt Romney himself said several times that any Republican would be HONORED to be chosen for the VP position. Don’t blame Palin for accepting the HONOR. Go ahead and blame McCain if you see it that way - no, it’s very clear how you see it and you are very certainly entitled to your opinion.

I hate to say it and don’t want to hurt your feelings but you’re unrelenting-gorilla-mode is kinda throwing a wet blanket here - but you can do what you want.

  118. 2thePoint Says:

Douglas M White, here’s the answer to your question (AND I’M NOT ACCUSING ANYBODY)just providing information:

What is an Internet Troll/ Forum troll?
An “Internet troll” or “Forum Troll” or “Message Board Troll” is a person who posts outrageous message to bait people to answer. Forum Troll delights in sowing discord on the forums. A troll is someone who inspires flaming rhetoric, someone who is purposely provoking and pulling people into flaming discussion. Flaming discussions usually end with name calling and a flame war.

A classic CureZone troll is trying to make us believe that he is a genuine skeptic with no hidden agenda. He is divisive and argumentative with need-to-be-right attitude, “searching for the truth”, flaming discussion, and sometimes insulting people or provoking people to insult him. Troll is usually an expert in reusing the same words of its opponents and in turning it against them.
While sometimes, he may sound like a stupid, uninformed, ignorant poster, do not be deceived! Most trolls are highly intelligent people trying to hide behind a mask of stupidity and/or ignorance! They usually have an agenda.

  119. Douglas M White Says:

Well, then, I don’t think that term applies to either Chris or Mit 10 as they both seem very comMITTed to Romney, and that is the nature of this blog. By the way– I am also very comMITTed to Romney!!

  120. 2thePoint Says:

Me, too. ComMITTEd through and through.

  121. 2thePoint Says:

    Romney’s day will come.

  122. Mit 10 Says:

Brain I have been reading Chris’s blogs for many months. I know she is committed to Romney. I have been here since the primaries. I am surprised that more of the older posters are unwilling to vouch for me, I guess my thoughts are no longer welcome here. That is okay as it is time to move on so Brian don’t feel like you have to leave. Best wishes getting a republican in the White House.

  123. Douglas M White Says:

I hope both Chris and Mit 10 will stay–as well as the others. I like hearing what you have to say.

  124. LeEric Says:

    Mitt 10,

I agree re the baby rumor, it’s rubbish. If after her announcement, if she then didn’t look pregnant, the media would have revealed the fact.

I personally really like her. I listen to her speak at a renewable energy event held in Anchorages park strip a few weeks back. She does speak very well.

Re the Trooper Wooten ordeal. Some of this may be pure consequent. And then maybe not. She being knowledgeable of him at a personal level does cause side issues. Is some of what she even knows about him admissible per say to even being said or shared with others? And then talking about him with co-officials which leads to possible implied pressure situations, may have been improper. There is proper channels for such to be handled. And if he doesn’t cross the line, then leave him alone. “Rumors” from the family shouldn’t carry more wait.
Any-rate. Out State legislature has commence an investigation, so lets let that play out.

    LeEric

  125. Sarah Says:

Chris, you go do what you think is right. I am LDS and as much as the DNC doesn’t bring up the Mormon issue and as tempting as that sounds, this women won’t be voting for Obama. I have principles that I won’t part with. The Bigots have won this battle fair and square. Let me tell you that Sarah Palin won’t be the only Sarah that they will see in the future. That Sarah will be LDS and I won’t take any Evangelical that tells me to sit down and not run for President. I believe in Article 6 in the constitution is the very epitome of the Freedom of Religion. I will run for President one day. A Mormon will be in the White House one day.

Let me all remind you that Romney went from a virtual unknown to a household name in a year. He did more then any other Mormon candidate including the Joseph Smith could ever do. He is a class act. Yes he deserves better but there is more then one way he could help this country. I will be proud to watch his career. A man like that should be president but a man like that doesn’t always become President.

  126. Sarah Says:

And what I mean is when Joseph Smith was running for President. As leader of the church he did a fine job that only he could do.

  127. Sarah Says:

What I mean by Bigots winning this battle fair and square is that they won’t win the war. If you people for one iota of a second think that there won’t be a Mormon in the white house one day if its not Mitt then you have lost that sense of accomplishment that did come from Romney’s campaign.

  128. Mit 10 Says:

    Thanks Le Eric.

Douglas- I have enjoyed what you had to say but I don’t think our thoughts and opinions will be welcome here much longer. I am sure Ann Marie wants positive comments about McCain etc. They want to get him elected and GMR is working for that also.
It is time to move on. I wish there was a place for us.

  129. Chris Says:

THe won fair and square? Sorry sarah. I don’t agree! I think they cheated. I won’t allow this anymore. I want them GONE from the party, before I can return.

Mrs. Palin is totally unknown and not right at thist time. ID polics have been played. The only thing she’s got going for her is that she’s the right religion. that’s it. Everything else leads me to think she’s lightweight who is out of her league at this time in History. He could have picked Liddy Dole… and so many more. This calls into question his ability to even make simple decisions. I can deal with Obama for 4. that’s all it will take. Just for. The bigots did not win fair and square. They bullied their way. If Mac will cave to them, who else would he cave on? I could have supported Leiberman over Palin. But the bigot birdcage truly needs to go.

  130. 2thePoint Says:

John McCain could not have picked Elizabeth “Liddy” Dole and had any hope of winning. Why? Because she is the same age he is - 72 years old.

  131. Sarah Says:

Chris, just exactly who do you want from the Party? All Evangelicals or bigoted ones…sorry but I don’t believe that will happen.

  132. Sarah Says:

*typo- Who do you want gone from the party?

  133. 2thePoint Says:

Chris - Re your statement in reference to picking Liddy Dole: “This calls into question his ability to even make simple decisions.” He made the correct decision because of her age. Two older people - the same age - on the ticket just wouldn’t fly.

Does this mean that you don’t have the ability to check your facts?

  134. Sarah Says:

I guess I have to look at this from perspective. You live in Utah… I live in California…I am used to being in the minority. I am used to not having things go my way…call me settled. I just don’t believe that mormons have lost their chances at becoming president. I don’t think the evangelicals where behind this…I don’t think McCain is that weak.

  135. Paulee & Mike Says:

Chris: I’m so sorry you have such hurt feelings, if I could I would hug you and let you cry it all out. It’s okay to be angry, but this world is made up of so many cheats. it seems at times they prevail, but judgement time will come for them. What would Jesus think, what should we think? Being productive and getting more credible Republicans into office is the way to get our country back. Mitt has been most offended, what will he want from his followers? Mccain did say yesterday, “He will need Mitt by his side in January.” I think we should follow Mitt’s lead, we did after the primaries. The religion topic is very hurtful, Huck’s group is unforgivable. The rest of us need to promote healthy responses or we are stooping to their levels, we are all better than that. I hear your pain, please try to hear our caring. It’s about Mitt, he needs us to rise above the fray. I hope you reconsider our need to unite. Thanks for listening to me. You take care.

  136. Paulee & Mike Says:

If this helps at all. I heard that two Rich guys on the ticket would turn off low and middle income families. Also, the pro-life flip was not so long ago. I did not hear any talk of religion. Lots of evangelicals were for Mitt.Agreed, Huck and people wouldn’t lighten up, that makes them look really small.

  137. Renna Says:

    Mitt10:

As I mentioned, I have been one of the most outspoken with regards to money and support for McCain without Mitt as VP. We will not be contributing any more money to the campaign or the RNC. But we will follow Mitt’s lead and vote for McCain/Palin. The alternative is simply too devastating to America. I like Palin and feel she should be given a fair opportunity to introduce herself to all of us and prove he worth. To jump on her with so little evidence is not prudent. Just consider this - no matter how much “experience” has been in Washington these many years - i.e. - Obama, Biden, McCain, they have made a mess of things and wind up with a 9% approval rating from their bosses(We The People).
In my opinion, we have waited far too long to change courses and try another approach. A Sarah Palin just might be a turning point in Washington. The founding fathers took ordinary people who sacrificed their lives for a designated period of time to go the Washington and “serve”. I believe Sarah Palin does have a “Servant’s Heart” and I admire her and her family’s sacrifices for their country. She just might be a person who truly loves her country and has talents her country needs at this time in history. Koodos to her and her support group - husband, family - to respond to a call to serve her country. I know few others who would give up their lives to do that. We should be praising her and not tearing her down.

Chris: Contrary to the comments of others that they would enjoy having you stay around to constantly throw fuel on a fire that needs to be contained, I feel you really do need to find another venue for your feelings. One that validates your opinion and will make you feel better about doing the wrong thing and accepting an Obama . Our energy right now must be focused on accepting this decision and using the next 65 days to get a Republican elected - we CANNOT step back and endure ANY time with Obama and the Democrats in power - for you to say that is very disturbing. You have the right to say what you like just as I have the right to let you and all readers of this site know that I feel you are a troubling negative influence on the task that lies ahead. I also feel your attitude is very disrespectful to the man who brings us together. You have lost that focus and you should look for yourself in another venue. I was also surprised to see you use the word “damn” in your comments - as an LDS - it is my understanding that you do not use profanity. It seems odd to me that such a”devoted” and “insulted” LDS has lost sight of what makes your religious choice so special to you. You are the one stressing the “Fame over Family” I for one feel Sarah Palin has chosen to balance service to country WITH service to family. Will it be a big challenge? You can bet it will - but she has shown for at least 9 years that she is up for the task - and there are many other devoted wives and mothers out there who have done the same in their lives - just because you cannot imagine it could be so certainly does not mean others cannot successfully navigate such a challenge. Such challenges often bring out the best in a person.

This will be my last response to you, Chris - your negative “fire” is burning down and we have much positive work to do here. GO MCCAIN/PALIN

  138. EVELIO PEREZ Says:

THE ONLY WAY WE GET MITT IN 2012 IS IF McMODERATE AND MISS ALASKA LOSE TO OBAMA .

  139. EVELIO PEREZ Says:

Sarah Palin’s daughter is pregnant ,( not married ) that’s not good for McCain .

  140. 2thePoint Says:

More opinion re Palin pick from Rocky Mountain News.com:

LITTWIN: Is Palin ‘nothing but net,’ or a long shot at buzzer?

    http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008/aug/29/littwin-is-palin-nothing-but-net-or-a-long-shot/

There are a plethora of comments, as well!

  141. SED Says:

Here is a short video clip I found on NY for Mitt at the Missouri rally. He looks energized.

    http://nyformitt.blogspot.com/

  142. 2thePoint Says:

SED, thanks for the link. I saw this rally on C-Span and Mitt was energized, articulate, and brief. What a great man!

I’m really going to enjoy his speech this week and hope we can get it on this website.

  143. Paulee & Mike Says:

Sed: Thank you for the link, he was his usual sharp and energized self. Aren’t we curious about Mccain’s statement about Mitt?
Mit 10: In reading over the comments, I saw that you asked Karen, Mike and myself to come back. i never left, just needed a little time out to regroup my thoughts and read some comments from others like Renna, Ann Marie, John, 2thepoint, our family here at this site. Karen’s wounded, but she’s a trooper, she is coming around, she’s sweet!

  144. 2thePoint Says:

Mitt just on FOX - says he’s not interested in a Cabinet position. Laura Bush and Cindy McCain to speak within the hour.

  145. SED Says:

I just saw Mitt on Fox News and he was having a interview with Bill Hemmer. He officially said that he does not want to be part of McCain’s cabinent. He has no interest in following the path of his father.

I feel that is great news, because he could be so much more effective outside of washington. Mitt stated that he wanted to continue his life as a citizen and not as some politician dealing with bureaucracy. I think that answer dashes any thoughts on him running for the Senate. Mitt likes to govern and being a single senator among 100 would go against that mindset

My hope is that he becomes the Chairman of the RNC. This would be a position in which he could be far more effective on a national level.

  146. 2thePoint Says:

SED - good thought for Mitt. He could do wonders for the party, but is that visibile enough? We’re going to be seeing way too much of Huckabee on Fox.

  147. EVELIO PEREZ Says:

It’s all about ratings , when the Reverend Huck bombs , he will be shown the door. ( won’t that be fun ! )

  148. 2thePoint Says:

I have to admit, that will be a kick-the-heels up day!

  149. Paulee & Mike Says:

Mitt needs to write a book. It would be believable. Gosh, how this country should have come out of their coma. The only way was for Mitt to have beat Mcccain. Hindsight. Mccain really wanted Lieberman, surprised? Biden couldn’t win on his own, Lieberman had how many shots? Biden got handed vp, Lieberman would have been handed vp. Now, Palin gets handed vp. So much for moral examples, ability, qualifications! This stinks!!!!
As far as the liberal media goes, that stinks too. Do we have any recourse at all?????????

  150. Sarah Says:

I agree Mitt needs to write a book…I would look forward to buying it.

  151. Sarah Says:

Bitter does not work…if you guys want to be bitter go make you own website. I want to be positive and upbeat. I feel disappointed…but I am going to handle my disappointment with positiveness instead of negativeness. I think Mitt deserves a good long break.

  152. 2thePoint Says:

Would love to read a Romney book. Sarah, I agree that Mitt deserves a good breal.

  153. Aaron Says:

Mormons, if you vote for this ticket you are cowards. It’s time to send a message!!! By the way, the best thing for Mitt would be to serve the downtrodden of the earth, for the next few years, or serve a special kind of mission for the church, not to visably building the church, spreading the gospel kind of message. He’s got everything on his resume allready.

  154. Aaron Says:

  155. Sarah Says:

So I am A coward!!!!!????? Okay fine. I will vote for who I think is the best. So I guess you must mean that Mitt Romney is a coward as well because it looks like he is going to vote for this ticket!

  156. Sarah Says:

I agree with a mission for Mitt though Aaron. I am not sending a message. Utah can but I am not.
