Palin is it…

While I love Mitt Romney, I am very happy with this choice…A conservative woman, and a mother of a special needs child to boot (that means a whole lot to a person like me).

  1. RC Says:

I am very sorry. I cannot accept McCains VP pick. I am very distraught over McCain and his pious attitude. What qualifications does this Govenor have? I cannot see her as Commander in Chief. Fixing the Economy. Tough on Al-Quieda. Trimming Washington. etc. etc. etc. I will NOT VOTE FOR McCAIN. I WILL WRITE ROMNEY’S NAME IN ON THE BALLOT. I am kissing McCain goodbye and I know he will go down in flames, big time.

  2. Stefany Says:

Ok, I’m going to go out on a limb and be a total bigot- The main role of a VP is the ability to step in for the president, if he is incapable of doing his job. I’m sure Gov. Palin is a very accomplished woman, but a mother with a special needs child and at least four others is NOT who we need for VP!!! As a mother of 3, and knowing the challenges of motherhood- this is not something I want for our country. I’m sure McCain’s choice will draw in the Hillary discontents but it does nothing to win my vote!

  3. Doug Says:

It does not win my vote or my family’s either…

  4. RL Says:

I disagree with RC. Romney would have been my first choice, but this choice is a very good one. It is strategically excellent, in that it has taken Obama off the front pages. It will help pull disenfranchised Mrs Clinton supporters that were gender biased, and She has a down to earth quality.
She is very conservative, and has had the courage to stand up to the Republicans when they were wrong.
She has the right attitude about life, and even chose to have a child that She knew before birth had downs syndrome.

If its not Mitt, this is a great choice, and I am sure She and McCain will continue to take advice from Mitt.

  5. EVELIO PEREZ Says:

WE WERE PLAYED LIKE FOOLS ….
IM GOING TO WRITE ROMNEY IN THE BALLOT .
I LOVE YOU GUYS , SEE YOU IN 2012
    ROMNEY 2012

  6. Mit 10 Says:

KAREN AND PAULEE AND MIKE 2THEPOINT WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?

  7. JA Says:

I’m very concerned that this is going to benefit Obama. It is such blatant pandering, and what happens when people take a good look and realize she is nowhere near ready to take over as president?

  8. Jon Says:

I’m sure her husband is already Mr. Mom if she is governor. Let’s give the benefit of the doubt that the kids are not neglected.
And at least she HAS run something! This will accentuate Obamas lack of experience even more.

I feel a lot more confidence in a former governor that is young versus someone young with ZERO experience.

  9. Mit 10 Says:

I am not voting for McCain. I do not care if Palin is conservative.

  10. Bethie Says:

If it can’t be Mitt, I’m happy it’s Sarah Palin. She is a strong Conservative, like Mitt, and will help McCain.

I remember reading, when Mitt was still in the Presidential race, that Sarah Palin was a possiblity for HIS V.P. choice.
    So she must be good!

I’m sure Mitt will get an influencial job in the administration if McCain gets elected. And we can look forward to “Romney in 2012″!

  11. Stephen Says:

Sarah will be critical in that all important swing state of Alaska :)

  12. John Says:

I will not vote for McCain. We need to stay organized and make sure Romney is the face of the real Republican party for the next couple of years. We can start campaigning for him in 2 1/2 years.

    Romney 2012!

  13. Mit 10 Says:

CNN is reporting Sarah is under investigation. What is that all about?

  14. Joe Says:

I’m writing in Mitt now. Sen McCain is obvisouly on crack.

I like Palin, but this is another poke in the eye that I can’t stomach.

A shame - I was willing to go ballistic for McCain with both my money, time, and efforts here in Michigan.

Good luck to all as we endure 4 years of President Obama. It appears McCain is no longer intersted in actually winning the election.

At least now I get to play baseball this Saturday instead of going to a stupid McCain / Palin rally.

    Go Mitt 2012!

  15. Doug Says:

CNN is already reporting that she is under investigation. I just don’t understand what McCain was thinking!

  16. Leslie Says:

I think he’s totally pandering for the female vote, but I don’t think it’s going to work. I won’t be voting for him. Although, politically, it makes sense.

  17. Doug Says:

Mit 10 - she is under investigation for abuse of power. Whether she is found innocent of the charges or not, I can’t believe McCain brought this on the republican ticket…

  18. Leslie Says:

Oh, this is too perfect, under investigation? He really shot himself in the foot this time. Romney 2012!

  19. EVELIO PEREZ Says:

I JUST GOT A CALL FROM THE PARTY FOR MONEY AND I TOLD THEM NO MITT / NO MONEY AND NO MCCAIN .
I WILL STAY AND CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES IN 2012 MITT ROMNEY .

  20. JA Says:

I’m sure the Dems are working on an ad highlighting her investigation for abuse of power right this very minute.

  21. Romney Fan Says:

Mitt in 2012!!!!!!!!! Hate to wait FOUR more years, but …it is what it is.

  22. Stefany Says:

I know I slammed Palin just 20 minutes ago, but I take it back! She sounds like a real tough conservative momma! Fine by me if they’ve worked out the Mr. Mom thing. She’s a gun tottin’,basketball playing, beauty queen who wants to drill in Anwar. The Dems will be speechless.

    Mitt’12

  23. Leslie Says:

Did he really think that putting a woman on the ticket would get the female vote? It depends on the woman, of course. If this woman is under investigation then it negates any benefit he would receive. Also, many Republican women are very conservative and don’t like the idea of a mother working full-time. This may detract those women. Oh well, not my problem. I’m through with McCain.

  24. copp Says:

It makes as much sense as Mondale picking Ferraro. Obviously pandering and lame. McCain has a death wish. He is a toal fool. Someone his age will never change. For a moment I thought he’d matured. He seemongly can’t help himself. Now the country will have four years of Obama torture. McCain may beat him if he can expose him…but Palin won’t help to win it - and her inexperience will scuttle a main McCain advantage. It’s just an incredibly risky choice. Reckless. Not an impression McCain needs to reinforce. Strange guy. He’s pandering to the ignorant voter and insulting the intelligent voter. so it’ll probably be a wash. But a reckless one. This gal really should not be next in line for the presidency. Really.

  25. Mit 10 Says:

Evelio Perez Perfect. They need to hear No Mitt No Money No McCain.

Palin is under investigation for abuse of power. Oh great!

BOZO does deserve the White House.

  26. MM Says:

Palin is married to Todd Palin, a lifelong Alaskan who is a production operator on the North Slope and a four-time champion of the Iron Dog, which is described as “the world’s longest snow-machine race.”

  27. Mit 10 Says:

    Ditto COPP

  28. JA Says:

I don’t like this choice. I’m not a fan of McCain, and I was really hoping for a VP that would be able to step in as President if needed and would be a hope for the future. This ain’t it.

Oh well, at least now I’ll have more time and money, since I won’t be devoting either to McCain/Palin.

  29. Tami Says:

I’m very disappointed this morning as I know all of you are as well. All I can say is thank goodness it’s not Huckabee. I know the Huckabites are saying the same thing about Romney. It’s too bad that there had to be such a divide between the two. I think that ended up hurting both their chances. They’ll say it wasn’t over religion but I beg to differ! *groan*

You know what? As disappointed as I am, I think I’m fine with Sarah Palin. I don’t know a lot about her but she is very conservative and has most all the same values that I do. So… *big sigh* I will still vote for McCain. I cannot vote for Obama!!

I’m also quite sure that McCain will ask Romney to work under him somewhere. He’d be stupid not to do so.

I wonder if Mitt is disappointed at all today or just what? Hmmm…

  30. Leslie Says:

I think Mitt is relieved he doesn’t have to be on that ticket. McCain is going to lose, big-time.

  31. Mit 10 Says:

Karen /Paulee and Mike/ 2thepoint what are you thinking?

  32. RC Says:

    Tami,
If McCain did not select M.R. for VP than what makes you think he is going to select him and put him somewhere else? Again, all of the blogs are in the majority of kissing McCain goodbye. I for one, am still writing in M.R.’s name on the ballot.

  33. Leslie Says:

No need to concern yourself with whether Romney gets a cabinet position. McCain will never ever put Romney in a cabinet position because McCain will never be president!

  34. Mit 10 Says:

I said before that if McCain picked Romney he would seal the deal but now he has leveled the playing field. I think it is a toss up because I think Biden is weak. McCain could pull this off.

  35. EVELIO PEREZ Says:

Everybody write in mitt, we should rename this blog ” Write Mitt in “

  36. JA Says:

My heart tells me to write in Mitt, but my head tells me that will only help Obama. This election just got very dreary and depressing for me.

  37. Chris Says:

    Ann Marie.
I’m gald your happy. I am not. If you pick a woman, make one who has EXPERIENCE.

I’ll not be voting for this ticket. Family first. Ms. Palin needed to put her children first. She did not. Michele Obama said she’ll be a mom first. I guess those are he family value I will be supporting. Not an unknown quanity.

I don’t like this. I think a revolt at convention is necessary.

  38. SED Says:

This screams of identity politics and sensationalism.

Sarah Palin is qualified to be VP. However, I am not sold on being POTUS at a moments notice. She may increase the woman’s vote substantially throughout the nation overall, but this pick doesn’t win Michigan, Colorado, Nevada, or Ohio. Not because she is unknown; everyone will know her name now. Its just because she can be perceived to be not ready thus taking the issue off the table for Obama.

  39. Chris Says:

Well, Palins butt is in the ‘right’ pew on Sunday.

I think the electorate ought to tell Mac the Maverick to take his horse and go home.

  40. Trooperdad Says:

Well, that’s the end of that. I’m voting with my feet. Will wait until 2012 for Mitt or someone very much like him.

  41. Michelle Says:

    Mccain will lose.

  42. RC Says:

I am listening to McCain right now……….it sounds like he is trying to convince himself that Gov Palin is the one. I sounds like he is trying to convince the American people and not giving specific information on why he selected her. Only pomp and circumstance. No real MEAT.

  43. Chris Says:

I serioulsy doubt Mccain wanted to win. Anyway of running Mitt as an I-R?
    Indy Republican?

  44. Michelle Says:

Biden will walk right over her. Poor poor choice.

  45. Chris Says:

I wish Mitt would put in his mission papers today. Get him out of the picture so he’s not damaged by the flying brown stuff that will be hitting the fan in about a weeki.

  46. Michelle Says:

I’m listening to her right now….she’s awful…..cannot picture her debating biden. McCain must be senile.

  47. RC Says:

I am totally disappointed. It makes me just want to scream. What is happening?

  48. Bethie Says:

I thought her speech was great. She reminded me of a female Romney. I will vote for McCain, but I’ll really be voting for Sarah Palin. (McCain looked nervous standing next to her, just as he did next to Romney.) A Romney/Palin ticket would have been the ultimate for me, but I think behind the scenes, if McCain does actually get elected, it will be the ones with strength, power and integrity (Romney and Palin),
who will really be running the country anyway.

  49. Jon Says:

She knocked it out of the park!!!!!

    Absolutely impressive!!!!!

    And I’m a Utah Mormon…huge Romney fan

  50. Kris in AL Says:

    WHAT A BUNCH OF WHINERS!!!!!!!!!!!

ROMNEY IS NOT THE PICK. GET OVER IT.

HAVE YOU REALLY THOUGHT THROUGH THE PALIN PICK????

    B U L L E T P R O O F !!!!!!!

FOR ALL YOU ANTI-ABORTION WACKOS…. SHE IS THE POSTER GIRL TO ELIMATE ABORTION!!!!!!!!!

  51. Kris in AL Says:

We’ve contributed thousands of dollars to Romney. I contributed to a draft Romney effort. I’m sure Mitt would want McCain’s VP to be the best pick for the Party and VICTORY. Palin is it. I can’t think of anything that can be used against her. SHE IS BULLETPROOF!!!

  52. Kris in AL Says:

BTW….she will clean Biden’s clock and if Biden attacks her, it will not look pretty. Not only can she defend herself, she really can’t be attacked AND SHE CAN ONE UP BIDEN I’M SURE.

  53. Elizabeth Says:

I love Romney, but I am good with Palin. She stands for what I believe in and walks the talk.

It sounds like she could lead the country better than McCain in fact.

Mitt would have caused a lot of divisiveness and trashing of the LDS religion. I was sick of that verbage.

I hope Mitt gets a cabinet position. Mitt will never be the president. It will be Sarah Palin in 2012. It’s just the timing of the way things are, but she will keep conservatism alive.

And at least it’s not Huckabee.

  54. MK in Arizona Says:

I just don’t see her being able to take over if necessary. I think McCain just lost.

  55. Elizabeth Says:

She sounds like the kind of person to learn fast while on her feet. She’s got moxy.

  56. Jon Says:

I was thinking future Margaret Thatcher. I had goosebumps. Gravitas like no one I know in politics (except for Mitt). Short on experience (although much more than Obama), but seems humble enough and spiritual enough to secure help in areas where she is weak. Something about her feels honest, capable, authentic, wise, tough.

  57. Doug Says:

I agree with the following news articles and will not be voting for McCain now…

    Maverick picks a Maverick

Though it was high in shock value, the Palin pick left bruised feelings among the short-list contenders who were not picked — and infuriated some Republican officials who privately said McCain had gone out on a limb, unnecessarily, without laying the groundwork for such an unknown. Two senior Republican officials close to Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty said they had both been rudely strung along and now “feel manipulated.”

“They now know that they were used as decoys, well after McCain had decided not to pick them,” one Republican involved in the process said.

    Wash Post

I am speechless about this pick — Palin was the wrong choice on so many levels, starting with experience. If he wanted to pick a woman, Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson among many others in the GOP were much more qualified than Palin. Palin should have refused when asked, like Jindal who knew he wasn’t experienced enough.

  58. MJ from AZ Says:

I am also a diehard Romney fan. But I am okay with Palin. Just a word to all of you who want to write in Romney. Think deeply about what Romney would do.McCain is definitely not our first choice, but think of your vote as a vote against Obama. I voted for Ross Perro and my vote helped bring in Clinton. We are still dealing with the fall out of a Clinton Administration. Remember Mitt’s words “This isn’t about me, it’s never been about me.’

  59. Ron Says:

My dear wife has said for years that we ought to put a woman in charge of this country. If we can’t have Mitt as VP, then I am happy with this choice.

This is a woman who shows courage (she’s sending a son to Iraq, she gave birth to a Downs child, and she stood up to the establishment), yet as a woman, she no doubt has a common sense that beats just about any man out there. I don’t know that much about her, frankly, but barring any skeletons in the closet, or any Qualian gaffes, then full speed ahead.

Every “hockey mom” I know (here they are called “soccer moms”), has judgement and problem solving skills that outpace most men I know…

  60. RC Says:

May I suggest that next week at the convention that all the delegates nominate Govenor Romney. Would that be a shake up or what? That would really send a message to the Party, to the World, to the American People. (just a thought)

  61. Jim Says:

Some of you guys are so committed to Mitt that you blind yourselves to the genius pick that Palin is! She has all of the qualities of a conservative and has the actions and experience to back them up. Look, I was a huge Mitt fan, and still am, but I’m not crazy enough to turn my back on a ticket that just went from bland to awesome. Instead of feeling let down that Romney wasn’t put on the ticket we should instead rally around another conservative candidate, Sarah Palin. She has the guts, demeanor, smarts, and wisdom to be President some day despite her limited time in politics. In fact, I am relieved that she was recently mayor of a town of ‘only’ 9000 people. She’s down to earth, feminine, tough…you name it.

    McCain/Palin 2008 !!!!!!!!!!!!!

  62. Jon Says:

How cool would it be if she is as deep as she seems? How often do you get depth in politics? It reminds me of Romney.

If we can’t have Romney I am thrilled about her as an alternative. And Romney can still be Pres in the future…plenty of time if you think of McCain’s age.

  63. Bethie Says:

I agree with you Jon. Her character and values are similar to Romney’s. And her speech delivery reminded me so much of a “female Romney”! She is a great pick.

I know she is a Christian, I wonder what denomination.
At least one her ancestors seems to have lived in Salt Lake City and she was born in Idaho. I wonder if she has Mormon roots.

Here is an interesting wikipedia article about her:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_palin

And from the reference section in the above article,
    here is her ancestry:

    http://www.amazon.com/Sarah-Turned-Alaskas-Political-Establishment/dp/0979047080/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1220028731&sr=8-1

  64. Bethie Says:

oops, last link was to the book written about her.

here’s the link to her ancestry:

    http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~battle/palin.htm

  65. Kris in AL Says:

    JIM….RIGHT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!

  66. Mit 10 Says:

I would love to see the delegates nominate GMR.

Palin lacks the experience and maybe there is a lot of excitement but eventually Americans will have to decide if she has enough experience to lead this nation. I think this race could go either way but I predict Obama will prevail.

I can get over Romney not being chosen but that does not mean I have to give my vote to McCain.

  67. Eric Says:

SHE IS PRO-CHOICE, I am not vote for a women who has a good chance of becoming pres, when McCain dies, who is pro-choice.

THE PARTY IS DIED TO ME. I WILL NOT BE VOTING THIS YEAR

  68. Jon Says:

    from http://archbishop-cranmer.blogspot.com/2008/08/sarah-palin-for-vice-president.html

And Governor Palin is a Protestant Evangelical Christian. Moreover, she is strongly ‘pro-life’, not like the à la carte Catholic Joe Biden who supports abortion. It will be difficult for any ‘pro-choice’ group to attack her on this, not least because she lives every day with the very real difficulties of bringing up a Down’s child – a child which the vast majority of pro-choicers would have denied the right to life. And not only is she pro-life; she is pro-marriage, hunts, fishes, and enjoys dog sledding and drilling for oil.

  69. Eric Says:

I guess the wikipedia article says she is pro-life, but I heard on a few tv shows that she was pro-choice, I guess maybe I will vote, I am not sure.

  70. Jim Says:

Eric…where do you get your information? Tell me where the evidence is that Sarah Palin is pro-choice? Is it because she made the ‘choice’ to have a baby with down-syndrome? Is it because she ‘chose’ to have 5 children, and send one to Iraq? Certainly she isn’t pro-choice in the sense of promoting abortion rights. If she is, I would like you to give me some evidence. Where do you get your information?

You know…when this story broke this morning I went on ABC.com and they called her anti-abortion rights! Just so you know, that’s that term they use to slander pro-lifers. So, if you want to let me and the rest of the folks here know why you think she is pro-choice, I would love to see the evidence.

    Jim

  71. Tami Says:

I have to say that I thought she gave an excellent speech. It gave me goosebumps and so for me, that was enough. As long as no “skeletons” come to surface, I’m fine with her. I don’t know her that well though and I do worry about her having a young family.

But I think Mitt Romney was used big time. I’m sure Mitt knew right from the beginning that just because he decided to campaign for Mc, doesn’t mean he’d become the VP… it was obviously a chance he was willing to take. But I still feel like he was used by JMc..

  72. Jim Says:

Eric…I’m glad that you are coming around. You should vote, and vote enthusiastically.

    Jim

  73. Jon Says:

As far as her kids go, those teenage daughters look like absolute sweethearts. Gave off the impression of great team players in the family, willing to help the youngest 2 at any moment. The husband seems very very cool and supportive as well. Class all the way!!!!

  74. Brent Says:

I think Mitt knew all along he was a decoy.

The primary is over its time to unit the party. There will be other fights to fight.

  75. Nate Gunderson Says:

Hey guys. I’ve got a poll on my blog trying to get a feel for how Romney supporters feel about Palin as the pick.

    The Mitt Blog

The poll is on the left side bar. Thanks.

  76. Sarah Says:

Okay that picture is adorable…that baby looks like a doll he is so cute! We have a hard working women who is a mother of 5 and loves her job and family. She has a supportive husband it seems. I will look forward to getting to know her these upcoming months.

Wow - I am stunned by the “buzz”.
You all know how devoted we have been to Romney.
I had a email from Anne’s brother this morning - in it he said that he had just spoken with her - that they were feeling some relief and were very upbeat and dedicated to getting this ticket elected.
Now, if they can bounce back and put the campaign above their hopes, then we must stop and think and consider doing the same. For the sake of the country - they do not want an Obama elected. What a most unselfish motivation at this time. That must be the most unselfish objective for all of us. We have been his supporters because we respect him as a person and as a leader. If we are truly his supporters then we will continue to follow him and trust his judgement.
I have asked Rod if he can give us a resource for letting Mitt and Anne know how we feel, just as we did following the primaries. I told him it was important that we do that. I will let you know if I receive a reply to that request.
In the meantime, this decision needs further analysis before we make hasty decisions for which we will all be sorry. That is difficult for me to say as I have been one of the most outspoken ones when it came to voting for McCain if Mitt was not the VP.
The objective is to WIN. Nothing can be accomplished if we do not have the White House. The struggle to win is predicated on making a statement that trumps the “Hollywood”
mentality of the Democratic Party. We essentially MUST get down and dirty to overcome their impact because they have so many poorly informed voters and they appeal to this level of intelligence through class envy. Mitt and McCain are both affluent contenders and fit right into that visual of the Republicans as rich and unaffected by the misfortunes of the poor. My goodness, look at what they focus on to sway public opinion from the fact that Obama has NO experience and that he will literally destroy this country;s economy - McCain cannot remember how many houses he has and Mitt Romney has just as many. Why on NBC during the Palin announcement, they had a trailer that said “How many houses does this add to the McCain campaign?” - constantly appealing to the ignorant and uninformed by playing the class envy card - a major news network in the tank for the Democrats. We MUST have a totally unexpected angle to confuse the masses and many of those masses were Hilary supporters and women who want a woman on the ticket. It makes perfect “political” sense just not perfect “common” sense to those of us who are more informed and realize what we need as a country. There will never be any reasoning with those who do not listen to reason but simply react to emotion,We must realize that through our social welfare system the wrong people have been having babies - a true and simple fact. Those people are now voters for the Democrats because they continue to get free support through life from them as they continue to increase the entitlement programs. The Sarah Palin choice was an attempt to appeal to those who react primarily with emotion. Although right now we may feel they take us for granted, they are counting on those of us who make decisions by being informed to realize what they must do to win and continue to support the effort.
Evilio - you have been a steadfast supporter of Mitt Romney. You and I have been on the same page on virtually everything. We worked very closely with Mitt’s brother in law here in Florida during the campaign. He is so devoted to this MITT - with a respect and admiration that is quite moving at times. His response to me now and after the primaries was to “trust Mitt’s judgement”. Mitt Romney is NOT A WHINER. He is a man of great dedication and personal fortitude as is his wife and their family. He has taken this in stride and refocused his efforts on electing McCain and other Republicans in November because his dedication is to the country and not to his personal needs or wants. I am sure there is disappointment, but you will not see or hear that from him at this time as he does not want anything to jeopardize a win in November. The ultimate unselfish act for this country.
We must AT LEAST put our vote where our mouth is and continue to support the candidate whom we know is the best for America - MITT ROMNEY. Right now - HE is asking us to support the Republican ticket. WE repeatedly accuse others of hippocricy in their beliefs and actions - let us not be recipients of that same criticism by abandoning our candidate in his greatest hour of need. Our support is desperately needed. What we can do in addition to giving that support is push for a VISIBLY PUBLIC position for Mitt in this administration. I have sent messages to the RNC and McCain Campaign to announce such a position ASAP if they want our continued support. If you can all do that - it will be a big help. It will keep Mitt in the public eye for the next four years and show America just how excellent he would be as President in 2012. Just as Mitt has done, we now must get over this and refocus our emotions and efforts to working alongside him to get this ticket elected. Let us not abandon him now - it is always darkest before the dawn.
