Obama’s Nail In The Coffin & Our Advantage
Although I am slightly perturbed by McCain’s decision, I now know he did what he had to do. I am now reassured that John will win this Fall and gain the presidency. I’m glad to report my John McCain $50 polo arrived this evening. Never be swayed by conservatives and or Republicans who admit they will vote for Barack and Biden; they are merely deserting those principles for which they believe are for when in reality, are owning up to not believing in when the going gets tough.
This era will decide how little or how great America’s chasm is when discerning rhetoric from action in the ballot box. I plead to the hundreds of visitors of this website to heed the words of Mitt Romney -
Now, to all of you, thank you, here, for caring enough about America to show up, to speak up, to stand up for conservative principles
I can’t force any of you to be motivated to campaign for a McCain - Palin ticket but I can sway your notions about the aforementioned issue. Ask yourself, is it worth it? Is it worth it to sacrifice our beliefs and our country to a man who rescinds every thing we believe in, just to show our dissatisfaction of a man who make mistakes because he, is, surprisingly, human?

Lets fact it. Palin is more CONSISTENT than Mitt on Abortion.
Palin is the best tool we have to defeat abortionists.
What price are you willing to pay to get 2-3 more conservative Supreme Court justices?

Good thing she stood up to those crazy pro-abortion hacks in Alaska!!! Um…ha. Also, its up to McCain to appoint the Supreme Court justices, and the Dem congress to confirm them, not Palin. Still, Palin makes me more comfortable voting for McCain, even though I’d have preferred Romney. I like her.

I can hear Palin saying to those who are debating with her the abortion issue…..”here (fill in their name) please take my little baby Trig in your arms for 5 minutes and tell me I should have aborted him.”
SHE IS THE BEST ASSET WE WILL HAVE AT THE NATIONAL LEVEL TO COMBAT ABORTION. (oh…I mean choice.)

Wow to actually have Campbell Brown CNN call Obama “our guy” in a heated debate with Bay Buchanan was pretty amazing. I know obama has CNN in their pocket. But to hear it like that was something.

Kris in Al Can you buy Supreme Court Judges?

The media is already building Palin up to knock her down. The Palin choice was a last minute reaction to a very powerful speech by Obama. And this was a short term, panic mode response, and in the process McCain surrendered the experience argument and even more importantly McCain surrendered conservative economics. (Palin as a credible voice of response, attack, or even a president? lol)
Obama’s speech was a punch from progressive, populist economics. And you know what: fine and good. We can reach a more balanced set of economics and we can rebuild after this Dole election. And the idea that McCain even remotely wants to champion and to campaign on social conservative issues ain’t going to happen. Welcome to Harriet Miers, VP.

I agree with this post. We have all been hesitant to support McCain until now if he didn’t choose a conservative. Now Palin was actually my number 2 for VP if Mitt didn’t get it…but I knew it was a long shot…well it no longer is. Now get ready to hear Obama who? If we keep the white house this yeah we can expect a riot. This will be interesting…Lord I pray that the American people make the right choice.

As for me…McCain/Palin 08!
August 29th, 2008 at 8:08 pm
Lets face it. McCain lost today. I’m working on the down ticket, as the upticket is a loser. Big time. He did what he had to do? how?
Sorry John. Don’t feel the same way. We’ve been told to sit down, shut up and fork over the cash. My cash will stay firmly in my wallet, and not one red cent will go to Palin and McCain. Period.
As far as the USSC. Perhaps McCain should have thought about that before he chose a loser ticket.

Kris in AL.
She did not think about what kind of mom she is going to be to that little guy, now did she? Sorry, don’t but the Palin train of thought. Not on my radar.
We needed Carter to get Reagan.
We need Obama to get back on track.

I agree with you Chris. I was nver for Mc– I was for Mitt. I was willing to vote for him if Mitt was VP. I thought thgat would set Mitt up for 2012. Now, I cannot vote for Mc. I’ll look at the third parties.
August 29th, 2008 at 8:58 pm
I’m disappointed but not quite off the wagon. I’m not inclined to contribute to McCain. Simply don’t respect the man. But, unless McCain flops too much more, Mitt doesn’t get my vote, but he controls it. I may not get to vote for him, but I will likely vote for who he tells me to vote for.
Mitt Romney someday, I hope. - P

Steve,
You sound as if you still thought Mitt could have been McCain’s choice? Sorry, McCain absolutely, positively has to keep his Maverick reformer persona intact. Otherwise, he’s just McSame. Palin doubles him down as a reformer, him picking her doubles him down as a maverick.
Mitt is just amazingly competent, with nicely complementary skills, and WAAAYYY to obvious.
The hardest part of this pick for me though is 2012. I don’t want Obama to win. But if Palin serves as VP with distinction for 4 years, it will be impossible for the GOP to nominate anyone else. If Mitt were to try, the ghost of Jane Swift would surely prevent him.
Of course, I’m getting WAAAAYYYY ahead of myself, but I think thats what this site is all about….

Nail in the coffin is right… only it was McCain’s VP pick that was a nail in the coffin for himself, not Obama’s:

I’m either voting 3rd party or writing in Romney. I’m not accepting this last-straw poke in the eye from Sen McCain. This is more gamesmanship like what we witnessed during the primaries and it frankly sickens me. I like Palin, but picking her over Romney in effort to pander is frankly the last straw for me.
August 30th, 2008 at 12:48 pm
You guys are incredibly stupid.
August 30th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
I kind of resent that Steve Andrews.
Sarah Palin is absolutely qualified for the job. However, he choice screams of pandering and identity politics. It’s purely strategic and not based on principle. It leads me to believe that a McCain administration will run by polls and the need to be “The Maverick”.
In the next 60 days most if not all of us will convinced to vote for McCain/Palin or not. Just please recognize that regardless of how immature you may feel that some of us are acting. It is based off of principle and an admiration for the man this site was built for.

Run bu polls???? I wish it had been run by polls in the vp picking because Mitt would now be where Sarah Palin is because that is what the polls told jMc to do. I am thinking he does not and will not listen to anyone else. Unhumble and prideful is what I think we have here…. Perhaps we should feel Mitt is blessed… K
