As Senator John McCain nears an announcement on his choice for a running mate, nearly 4 in 10 of the Republican delegates preparing to head to St. Paul, Minnesota for their party’s convention say they would like to see the presumptive nominee select Mitt Romney, according to a New York Times/CBS News Poll.

Three in 10 of the delegates did not offer an opinion on who they would prefer to serve as Vice President, but of those who had an opinion, no other candidate garnered more than 7 percent support from the delegates. Mike Huckabee was named by 7 percent, Tom Ridge and Tim Pawlenty were the choice of 4 percent, and Bobby Jindal, Condoleezza Rice and Sarah Palin were cited by 2 percent.

  1. EVELIO PEREZ Says:

I just posted a message in McCAIN.com and told them to say goodbye to the election and millions of Romney supporters because it looks like he picked Pawlenty.

  2. Marybeth Says:

Yes, I sent one too, Evelio.

    What a loser ticket.

Out of 300,000,000 people, these 4 dopes are the best we could come up with?

    God help the United States!

  3. Marybeth Says:

Ever true to his Maverick image, McCain sticks his finger in the eyes of conservatives once again, ignoring the GOP convention delegates and tons of support for Mitt

    What a class A jerk.

  4. 2thepoint Says:

    Ditto.

  5. Leslie Says:

At this point, I would have been happy with Lieberman — anything to irritate the evangelicals. Now McCain is just plain pandering with Pawlenty.

  6. Sarah Says:

Do I even bother watching the news conference tomorrow? I am so disappointed if that is the case. My first election has turned out to be very disappointing. I feel like the kid on the soccer field that got hit with a ball in the nose.

  7. Marybeth Says:

It’ll be interesting to see who shows up in Dayton tomorrow

  8. SED Says:

I agree with you Sarah. This is becoming a tough pill to swallow.

I am what is now called the millenial generation and this was my first presidential election that I am voting in. I missed out in ‘04. I wasn’t a political junkie like I am now.

  9. Leslie Says:

Is anybody watching Obama’s acceptance speech? I don’t think the “McCain/Pawlenty” ticket will hold a candle to this!!!

  10. David D Says:

I am not sure I understand why everyone is saying it is Pawlenty? What evidence? Why?

  11. SED Says:

Barack Obama just savaged the ownership society.

We need a bare knuckled bruiser to win this election. Not a blue collar nice guy!!!

  12. Leslie Says:

David: it’s a leak and backed up by the fact that he cancelled all his appointments for tomorrow. Let’s hope it’s all a fake to throw people off, but I have a sinking feeling it’s not.

  15. SED Says:

Barack Obama’s speech tonight is the most moderate speech I have heard him make. He is taking a centrist stance and most americans that don’t know about him are going to buy it. He is also positioning this as the movement of the people. This is not looking good.

If it’s Pawlenty there will be no VP bounce and we lose in a landslide.

  16. Karen Says:

Here is a copy of my last letter to McCain.

    Dear Mr. McCain,

Well, it looks like you are choosing to throw away this election.

I pray the reports are all wrong about you picking Pawlenty. I am sure he is a nice man, but he is no Mitt. Mitt has the experience and the strength that you need to make all the difference in this election. P is milquetoast.

By the way, you should read the blogs. People are bailing out on you all over the place. Utah may go blue for the first time ever. Nevada and Colorado may be lost to you. Michigan is lost and Pawlenty barely won MN so it is probably a loss too.

My heart is breaking. I so thought you were the strength that we needed now, but it looks like you are not maverick enough to thumb your nose at bigots and people afraid of success. Since when is success a bad word? Since when is owning houses a big deal? I have one and I don’t care if you have 7 and Mitt has 4. No one I know cares about that. But, what they do care is that you may have thumbed your nose at America that has clearly sent a message that they want Mitt in there. You have apparently thumbed your nose at the delegates that prefer Mitt. I was hoping for wisdom; wisdom that would keep Obama out of the WH, but if you do choose Pawlenty, you will have given the whole kit and caboodle away and alot of people will never be able to forgive that, perhaps even me.

I pray if you have made this horrific mistake, that you will have the courage to undo it and get the man in there that most of America has tried to tell you they want. I really thought you wanted to win more than this; this is your one and only chance and you are probably going to throw it away. Tragic for you and tragic for America. That is if the reports are true, we will hope they are not. It would be best for America if they are not.

  17. Andrew Says:

We knew months ago that our primary system is HUGELY flawed. So why aren’t more Republicans (and Democrats, for that matter) crying aloud to change this crappy system? So, with a weak-minded electorate, Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina will speak for all of the rest of the primary voters.

Change the primaries NOW! National primary and one run-off.

    Andrew

  18. EVELIO PEREZ Says:

YOU ARE CORRECT SED….MCCAIN ( EXPERIENCE AND NO CHARISMA ) AND PAWLENTY ( CHARISMA AND NO EXPERIENCE )
WILL BE EATEN ALIVE IN THEIR RESPECTIVE DEBATES WITH OBAMA (THE ONE ) AND BIDEN ( I AM THE OTHER ONE ) WILL LOSE IN A LANDSLIDE.
    ROMNEY 2012

  19. EVELIO PEREZ Says:

KAREN , THAT WAS AWESOME. THANKS FOR WRITING IT , MCCAIN NEEDS TO HEAR IT .

  20. SED Says:

    Great letter Karen.

  21. Karen Says:

Well, it made me feel good, but you have to wonder if he ever will even see it. I sure liked hitting that submit button though. I really wish I had a personal email for that man though… wouldn’t that be fun!!!

  22. John Cronin Says:

    David D,

I’m with you. Why are so many of us so convinced it is Pawlenty. All the “short list” candidates would have to clear their schedules and travel to Dayton to keep the illusion going that it could be any one of them.

Don’t throw the towel in just yet. The McCain team has every reason to keep the guessing game going until the last possible minute.

  23. Alex Says:

If I was McCain and his advisors and I wanted to pull as much attention from Obama as possible, I would leak to Drudge and Foxnews just like this to drive it towards Pawlenty and then surprise with Mitt. Otherwise, it is insanity.

  24. Karen Says:

Yeah, I wrote a head fake post earlier. I just have to wonder if they were using it to test the waters one last time. Well, if that is true, they surely got an ear full….

  25. Sue Says:

Karen I tried to send a letter but when I clicked on Contact us i got an error . How did you send your letter?

  26. Linda Says:

If anyone close to McCain are reading these comments, Please, Please, Please let him know he will lose if he chooses TP. The VP debates are going to look like a kid arguing with his dad.

  27. bigmo Says:

Karen, from what I’ve heard, McCain doesn’t personally use a computer (and it shows.) I hope you’re right John and Alex.

  28. Karen Says:

I just go to http://www.johnmccain.com and go to the bottom to the contact part and up comes the form. You just fill in and hit submit and you are done.

bigmo… how does one get along in this enlightened age without a computer??? Ridiculous

  29. Alex Says:

Ask youself, what makes more sense from a strategy point. There is much more of a benefit to do a headfake tonight and then surprise tomorrow. What benefit was the leak if the major news outlets are not going with it?????? Its a waste and Drudge only has up an interview with Pawlenty as a link. Its all about strategy. Take the emotions out.

  30. Robby Says:

If anyone close to Pawlenty are reading these blogs, let him know how he is the iceberg that will take the SS McCain down.

  31. Annette Says:

    Did you read this article
    http://culture11.com/blogs/theconfabulum/2008/08/28/breaking-news-romney-believes-hes-out/?from=flash

BREAKING NEWS: Romney Believes He’s Out
    By James Poulos

A well-placed source has confirmed that Mitt Romney no longer understands himself to be in consideration for the Republican nomination for Vice President. When asked where he’ll be tomorrow, Romney revealed that he planned to be in Massachusetts. When pressed for a clarification — as to whether that remark constituted an artful prevarication — Romney declared that it did not. Further, one of Romney’s senior advisors has verified that if he put it thus, it’s true.

  32. EVELIO PEREZ Says:

HOPE YOU ARE RIGHT ALEX .

  33. Sue Says:

Karen, for some reason I didn’t get the error this time.

  34. Sue Says:

    Karen, Oops! Thank you.

  35. Alex Says:

That article is a blog and an unknown site I never heard off. Perfect place to put out misinformation to create more of a splash tomorrow when it is Mitt. I should of bought when Mitt was under 10. I still think I am watching beautiful strategy from very smart people. There are just too many things that don’t add up.

  36. Alex Says:

Romney is 22.5 now at Intrade. He has slowly been moving up on the graph.

  37. JA Says:

Ok, here’s a bit of good news. Marc Ambinder at marcambinder.theatlantic.com/ just posted that “Source: Romney will be in Dayton tomorrow”

AND check out this article. The last sentence is mighty interesting!

“Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty kept mum on whatever he knows about John McCain’s running mate as he watched his daughter’s volleyball game Thursday night.
Pawlenty told The Associated Press, “There’s nothing really new to report on Senator McCain’s decision.”
He says he thinks everyone will hear from McCain shortly.
The governor spent the evening at a school in Minneapolis, where one of his daughters is a tenth-grader.
Media and onlookers have gathered in front of Pawlenty’s private home in Eagan, as well as at the governor’s mansion in St. Paul.
Pawlenty says he still plans to be at the Minnesota State Fair Friday, where he’s to do his weekly radio show, and that he has no plans to fly to Ohio, where McCain is expected to announce his choice at a rally in Dayton Friday.”

    http://www.northlandsnewscenter.com/news/local/27642979.html

  38. Leslie Says:

I can’t even imagine Pawlenty! Let’s hope it’s not true!!! I’ll even take Lieberman at this point.

  39. bigmo Says:

Pawlenty is down to 41.1 from a high a couple hours ago of 85 on Intrade. Romney is up to 26.9 from a low of 5.1 (or 5.3, I don’t remember but I was very disheartened.)

  40. Alex Says:

I see a beautiful plan unfolding

  41. bigmo Says:

Well, the good news with Lieberman would be he could be overturned at the Convention, where Mitt leads the polls by a healthy margin.

  42. Karen Says:

Alex: I pray you are right….

  43. Alex Says:

It was the way Drudge just put up a link to an interview on Palenty. Very vague and the other news outlets didn’t run with it at all. I guess I really believe Rove, McCain, Bush and Romney are all in this. Romney is the one to take this 8 year past McCain. It would be a Reagan/Bush but in reverse

  44. Leslie Says:

At least with Lieberman, McCain would go with his heart. Choosing Pawlenty over Mitt is cynicism and pandering at its worst.

  45. David D Says:

Alex: You have me laughing out loud here! “It would be Reagan/Bush but in reverse”

  46. Chris Says:

why would Pawlenty say this about his gov. term?

“Whether or not he’s McCain’s running mate, Pawlenty has gained a valuable eight weeks of intense news media exposure as one of the Republicans on McCain’s short list.

His gubernatorial term ends in January 2011, and he said Thursday he’ll make his plans known early next year.”

(I forgot where I copied this from. But I got it off Drudge. I think it’s from WSJ.)

  47. bigmo Says:

Mitt’s up to 38! Pawlenty still at 41.1

  48. David D Says:

Breaking news from Greta: “From the McCain camp, there is NO LEAK.”
Folks, we are in business again!

  49. Michelle Says:

BREAKING NEWS ON FOX RIGHT NOW: Mitt Romney is SCHEDULED TO FLY TO DAYTON TOMORROW. Huckabee informed his supporters that he will not be there. Pawlenty has announced NO PLANS to fly to Dayton tommorrow…so is it Mitt? Is this possibly the ‘leak’??

  50. Alex Says:

I should of bought on Intrade!!!!

  51. Tami Says:

Oh wow, I guess I missed another roller coaster ride this evening… been watching FOX news all evening and had to listen to “The One’s” speech tonight.

So it was another leak but maybe a false leak hopefully? It’s gotta be our Mitt!

  52. Alex Says:

Mitts up on Intrade 57 to 52

  53. Karen Says:

I think they are referring to the Pawlenty ruckus of all day long… I think the Ohio things are true… We will see tomorrow though…. K

At least I might sleep better tonight.. if I go to bed right now and nothing else comes up that is..

  54. Karen Says:

    Intrade makes me crazy!

  55. Tami Says:

where do you watch this on intrade? Got a link for me? LOL What, did Romney plummet there this evening or something?

  56. Joe Says:

Anyone else here up late losing sleep over this, pouring over news report after news report searching for hints, fractioned details, and new news like I am?

    What have I become??

Everyone - all this specualation, rhetoric, etc durign the VP fenzies can cloud the facts. Here’s the facts:

    - 40% of GOP delegates want Romney on the ticket… 7% follows for the next guy, and ever less support for others
    - The economy is in shambles and Mitt is a proved economic expert
    - Mitt can bring the GOP Nevada, Colorado, Michigan, and possibly more
    - Look at the numbers… Mitt had tons of votes… those are real people who pledged their support to Romney. And many of the voters supporting oterh conservatives are looking for a Romney addition… this is un-ignorable support
    - Yes, I feel very confident creating my own new words
    - Money - perhaps the biggest issue. Mitt’s fundraising ability is unparalleled… and lets face it, many of us Mittheads have been holding our money back for McCain without Romney on the ticket.. money is needed to stay competitive with the Obama marketing machine
    - By their fruits ye shall know them - Mitt’s unexpected and selfless dropping out of the race to support McCain, and his relentless, highly effective, and often times humorous/likable surrogate performances on McCain’s behalf, a seemingly tireless work - can that really be overlooked? Compare Mitt’s contributions to McCain’s campaign to any other VP contenders… unmatched I say, unmatched.
    - Personality - while the primaries were heated, Romney and McCain’s relationship didn’t start during the primaries. There’s enough history to prove these tow fine gentlemen can work together effectively.
    - Biden - Romney can hold his ground vs Biden, and then some.
    - Hillary / Obama split - the ads waged vs Obama with the Hillary quotes are a perfect lead-in to McCain being the big man and pickeing the smart choice, former foe. While the democrats may have tried to re-unite the party, a Romney add to the ticket actually tangibly reunites the GOP in deed

I could continue, but need I say more? In light of all the above, which certainly has been considered by McCain and at least communicated to McCain from the highest levels of the GOP (I sincerly hope), are we so on crack that we would actually think Romney is not the pick?

Now if it turns out that Romney is actualyl not the pick, then I will then be convinced that Sen McCain is on crack and will thus vote accordingly.

Ah… that felt good. I think my spirits are such that I can finally go to sleep now without being a nervous wreck any more. I wish the same fate for all who reid aforementioned!

  57. bigmo Says:

Just go to Intrade.com Tami, its on the front page.

  58. Michelle Says:

Joe you are right. The bottom line is that Mitt Romney UNITES the party. That’s the whole point.

  59. Mit 10 Says:

Oh please be right. Is there still hope? Does this mean McCain is not stupid? Go Mitt.

  60. Joe Says:

And while I did say I am confident with being able to create new words, I did not say I was confident at spelling while being sleep-deprived.

So, apolgies for the spelling errors. ‘night!

  61. Karen Says:

    http://www.intrade.com

Joe, that is great. I could not have said it better myself. I have lost sleep and am losing sleep. I hate leaving for anyplace because all I think about is coming home and getting “back at it”. I go everywhere I can to get a clue or a hint…

I have been referring to today’s experience on here as group therapy… it has been cathartic for me! K

  62. bigmo Says:

Mitt just passed him on Intrade! GO MITT!

  63. Alex Says:

Thats what I was thinking Joe. I think everyone was hedging another dissapointment from the primaries. It was too painful. Once I let go of that, I could see clearly that it was a beautiful head fake.

  64. Tami Says:

Oh wow! Thanks joe.. great post. Brings my spirits up too and gives me hope til tomorrow morning. Thanks bigmo for instructions LOL

  65. Tami Says:

I agree Karen. It’s all I think about (I think I need serious help lol) but it’s been fun riding this roller coaster today with all of you. I’ve made new friends here!!

  66. MK in Arizona Says:

Joe, I am up late right with you. I keep looking at intrade every few minutes and Mitt keeps going up. I was so depressed earlier this evening but now I feel like I can still hold on to hope. I don’t think I am going to be able to go to sleep tonight because I am afraid I might miss something.

  67. John Cronin Says:

    Joe,

You ask, “What I have I become?”….a political junkie, just like the rest of us. There is no known cure for the addiction and the people afflicted by it enjoy life more than those who are not.

I can guarantee you that you are not the only one losing sleep tonite. I have seen comments posted on this site at times ranging from 2-4 AM.

  68. Eric Says:

Me too, this is a nightmare of up and downs. I still stand by my original logic of if Mitt will be with Mac two days in a row after the VP pick it has got to be him. It will be a party unification tour, which is why they have to appear with Huck and Huck will have to endorse Mitt.

  69. Romney Fan Says:

What a ride! We hit rock bottom a couple hours ago, and now Mitt is ahead of Pawlenty on both intrade and Rasmussen markets again.

    Keeping my fingers crossed!

    Gooooooooooooooooo MITT!

  70. bigmo Says:

Glad to help, Tami. I know it made me feel better.

  71. Tami Says:

I have a silly question lol I’m sure it’s something that I should know but I don’t. I guess I’ve never really thought about it.. but where does a Vice President and his family live? Do they live in their own home or in the White House?

Also, last week the night before Biden was announced, the news stations were camped out at his and a couple others’ houses and then didn’t the secret service pull up or something like that? We didn’t get to see that tonight.

  72. Eric Says:

I am glad I live in the West coast, my wife is starting to get on me though for not helping with the dishes.

  73. Eric Says:

Mitt took off already from CA. No one could be camped out to see the secret service

  74. Karen Says:

Me too. I feel like I have experienced every emotion known to man or woman today alone. In a few short hours, I have been happy, sad, angry, disappointed, emotionally lethargic, climbing the walls and sliding down the mud slide… etc, etc, etc…

this is fun… It is fun to watch Mitt coming up on intrade. I hated seeing it when it was 10… I didn’t even know it went down to 5!!! icky… I am glad I was out for that part… I am afraid I am going to burn up my laptop which would be bad because I cannot afford another one right now…

It is alot later for those of you east of me. sorry it is 10:30 here… K

  75. Jill Says:

Huck heping to unify the party under a Mccain/Romney ticket makes total sense to me after all he’s done to tear Mitt down! He owes that much to Mitt and the party!

  76. Karen Says:

    Tami:

There is an official residence for the VP, I think it is called The Blair House… fairly close to the Whitehouse if I understand it correctly…

  77. Mit 10 Says:

Also, I mentioned earlier that McCain ran an ad congratulating Obama and saying it was his night to shine and Mac would be back to campaigning tomorrow. So, maybe it was not his intention to leak his pick and hopefully Romney is his choice. Go MITT!

  78. bigmo Says:

Pawlenty’s back ahead….this is going to be a long night.

  79. 2thepoint Says:

Boy, I step out for an hour and a half to ride my bike, and things do change!

Eric I like your logic. Joe, yours, too.

Sounds like we may be rockin’ ‘n rollin’ tommorow?

  80. Eric Says:

I will have to get out my check book if that is the case otherwise, it stays very closed.

  81. John Cronin Says:

    Tami,

    Check this out.

    August 28th, 2008 | 39 Comments | Posted in Mitt Romney

I wonder if we will see all the MSM camera crews outside the Romney homes, looking for signs of a Secret Service presence, you know, the same way that kept a vigil outside outside of Biden’s. If we don’t, I won’t be shocked.

    ~~John Cronin~~

If memory serves the VP and his family live in the Vice President’s mansion, the Blair House, not in the White House.

  82. Chris Says:

VP lives in a home on the grounds of the National observatory. It is not far from the White House. The house actually has a great history, and like the White House, is full of ‘Americana’ artifacts. I think it was refurbished during the Ford adminstration. prior to that, the Veep lived where ever he could find a place to sleep. They also have the option of buying their own home.

  83. Tami Says:

Thank you so much for the all the answers. You all are such a wealth of information!

I live in Idaho and it is 1:40 pm here…. the night is still young lol

  84. Tami Says:

Oops!! HA HA!! That is supposed to say 10:40

  85. Chris Says:

And for some reason, I recall the Veep lived in Admirality House. I do know it’s on the grounds of the National Observatory. I could be wrong.

I think Blair house is the home in St. James Park where the American Ambassador to the Court of St. James (England) lives. In my day’s at the London Embassy. Then again, a lot of moons have flown over the teepee, and my memory could be fading a tad.

  86. Karen Says:

1:40??? you are a tired woman Tami… it is 10:40!!!!

I am tired. Glad to be of help on the Blair House. It is lovely I hear.

  87. Karen Says:

oops again Chris and I overlap… I guess someone needs to check for sure… K

  88. Chris Says:

Tami, Did you know what Santa Claus and Mrs. Santa clause named their daughter?

    Ida, ida, ho ho ho.

    :)

  89. MK in Arizona Says:

I just read on Fox News that Huckabee has said he will not be at the VP rally tomorrow. Maybe that is a good sign for Mitt because we all know that Huck would not be able to stand on the same stage with Mitt and support him as VP. Maybe Huck knows it is Mitt and instead has just decided not to attend so that he can control his jealousy. Just a thought.

  90. Chris Says:

I checked. Google sez it’s admirality house.

One for me! And yes, it’s located at the National Observatory as well! Now, if I could only guess this blasted Veep nom correctly.

  91. Tami Says:

    LOL Chris… that’s a cute joke!

I read that about Huck stating he is not the VP. Whew! That’s very good news!

  92. Chris Says:

    MK
They are scheduled to be together later this weekend. I WISH Huckabee would stop all this jelousy. I WISH he’d put a stop to his bigot birdcage, and tell them to get thee behind Romney. He just shows how jelous and petty he is, each time he opens his mouth. I’ve noticed him around a lot in the past 2 weeks, badmouthing Romney at every opportunity. It’s actually getting out of hand. So much so, it could cost him any future in politics.

  93. Romney Fan Says:

Romney’s down again on intrade & Rasmussen Markets. Time to call it a night and see what happens in the morning! Go Mitt!

  94. Mit 10 Says:

MK in AZ I agree. That will be a bitter pill for the Huck to swallow.

  95. StevenInBrooklyn Says:

This is the latest (posted it in the other thread, too):

    marcambinder

about 1 hour ago from txt
Source: Romney will be in Dayton tomorrow about 1 hour ago from txt

  96. 2thepoint Says:

    SinB, Thanks for the latest.

    Things are lookin’ up.

But where in the world is - Mitt Romney… now? :)

  97. Leslie Says:

I don’t get this. Will Romney be with McCain tomorrow - and Pawlenty? Is this like a beauty pageant and he’ll have the contestants lined up behind him?

  98. Mit 10 Says:

Huck has made it his mission to ruin Romney but he has succeeded at ruining his own future in politics. If Romney is the VP Huck will have to stop criticizing him.

  99. Tami Says:

Been reading that Pawlenty will not be in Ohio tomorrow. Hope he’s telling the truth.

I’d like to know where Romney is right now too… and Ann and his family too!

  100. StevenInBrooklyn Says:

Gee, a few hours ago, I thought Mitt was out. What happened in the interim?

  101. Karen Says:

Well, I wish I knew where they are. I think they are probably at his sister’s house. Don’t know of course, but it is a good wonder….

  102. bigmo Says:

Its looking that way again Steven. Not for sure though. Pawlenty is up big again on Intrade, 74 to 20, although its been shifting pretty crazily back and forth. Supposedly Pawlenty is not going to be in Dayton tomorrow. Of course that could just be a lie to keep the surprise.

  103. Chris Says:

Well Steve, we’ve decided that Mitt is now offically MIA. I’ve read someplaces that pawlenty is not planning on being in Dayton. Then he is, then he is’ent. Evlio posted that Mitt will now be in Dayton. But Mitt is MIA. Where is he? Doesent ANYONE here have the Mitt watch?

  104. Karen Says:

Lying is not pretty… why tell a lie when the truth will do just as well???

  105. bigmo Says:

Now Mitt’s closed the gap a bit. Long night ahead.

  106. Karen Says:

I th ink we are all wondering where he is. Perhaps at his sisters house, who knows???

  107. Chad Says:

“A source there with ties to the McCain campaign told a reporter for our sister site the Michigan Messenger that insiders are being advised to travel to Minnesota on that date and not to go to Ohio, where an event scheduled on that date is rumored to be a misdirection play on the part of the McCain campaign.”

    From a week ago…

  108. bigmo Says:

Maybe Mitt’s cutting a new VP single with King Koop.

  109. Tami Says:

I bet he’s at his sister’s house too. Anyone got her phone #? LOL

  110. bigmo Says:

Hopefully he’s in a briefing room somewhere surrounded by Secret Service agents.

  111. amy Says:

    as of 12:15 central

    Rasmussen
    Mitt 47.1
    Tim 40.0

    intrade
    Mitt 17.5
    Tim 65.0

  112. StevenInBrooklyn Says:

Listen, these “markets” are fun, but at this point, they don’t know any more than you do, and possibly less.

  113. bigmo Says:

Yeah but I followed Intrade during the primaries and they were always (and usually frustatingly) correct this close to the actual voting.

  114. bigmo Says:

Not that they are infallible or anything.

  115. james Says:

Amy: Those aren’t the numbers I’m seeing on Rasmussen. You sure about that?

  116. amy Says:

Story Updated: Aug 28, 2008 at 10:12 PM CDT

Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty kept mum on whatever he knows about John McCain’s running mate as he watched his daughter’s volleyball game Thursday night.

Paul.

Pawlenty says he still plans to be at the Minnesota State Fair Friday, where he’s to do his weekly radio show, and that he has no plans to fly to Ohio, where McCain is expected to announce his choice at a rally in Dayton Friday.

  117. Mit 10 Says:

I wish the markets would swing in Mitts favor. If they are not up by tomorrow I will be very discouraged.

  118. StevenInBrooklyn Says:

Bigmo, but this isn’t about the voting of a large number of people. The numbers are being driven by internet posts, including, perhaps, posts on this blog!

  119. bigmo Says:

I think Mitt’s earlier plummet was driven by Drudge report’s strong hint “Meet Tim Pawlenty” under their “McCain picks running mate” post. Not sure what’s going on now.

  120. 2thepoint Says:

Mit 10, I do agree with your sentiment that if Mitt is VP, Huck ought to shut his big mouth. I think he will attempt to grin and bear a MacMitt ticket, but we all know it would be a facade.

Because Huckahyena hung on in the primaries after Mitt did, and he’s an idiot, I don’t think he ever thought for a moment that Romney would stand a chance at being VP. His few moments of fame went to his swollen head and he thought he could bad-mouth Mitt out of the VP possibility. He has his Taliban-Evangelical big-wigs colluding to smash Mitt. It isn’t just Huckahyena behind this smear campaign - that’s why he has continued his sad and sorry lament against Romney. There are wealthy, powerful, organized and adamant church leaders and their congregations behind Huckabee’s efforts.

They don’t want a Mormon in the White House. Period. Hopefully, decent Americans will now see through their back-pedaling. They are manipulating, caculating persecutors.I don’t care how many times they say they object to Romney because his record. His record is pro-life.

If Mitt’s the VP nominee, it’s gonna get very interesting.

  121. MK in Arizona Says:

I hope that McCain, being the mavrick that he is, wanted to put Huckabee in his place and not listen to all his Mitt bashing. McCain doesen’t like being told what to do.

  122. Chris Says:

And keep in mind: not everyone is the diehard idiots we are and are staying up so blasted late, because we can’t find Mitt!

If greta van s. is reporting he’ll be in Dayton tomorrow, nd Paw Paw says he won’t…. what are we reading? Were they all told to deny, deny, deny? Oh, and one piece is missing: Pawlenty has said he won’t be in Ohio. Huckabee has said he won’t go near there. But Mitt is silent. not only can’t we find him, but we are not hearing from him either.

  123. amy Says:

WHERE O WHERE HAS MITTY GONE, MITTY GONE!

  124. Leslie Says:

Who is supposed to be in Dayton? Was is supposed to be mitt, huck and pawlenty? and now it’s just mitt?

  125. amy Says:

I thought I read it was suppose to be all three. Now is it just Mitt??? ; )

  126. StevenInBrooklyn Says:

Comment on this? This seems to have “no probative value” to me:

    http://dcrepublican.com/2008/08/28/is-it-tim-pawlenty-one-billionaire-says-yes/

  127. 2thepoint Says:

Okay, so let’s play the “Where is Mitt Tonight” game. He could be holed away in the back of a Dayton Walmart watching Dem’s convention re-runs in the electronics department while munching on a big bag of Cheetos…

Where do you think he is? :)

  128. amy Says:

Barack was telling everyone he is gonna “Fix Washington”.
    Sorry, that is Mitts job.

  129. amy Says:

honest, sincere, down to earth, gracious, humorous and a person with natural compassion

Hmmm Steven… Sure he wasnt talking about Romney

  130. 2thepoint Says:

SinB - Tim and Mary sound like they’re lovely people. That was a nice endorsement for them. Tim is somewhat like Obama in the fact that he needs more time to gain experience and wisdom. As we all agree, he isn’t the man of the hour.

  131. 2thepoint Says:

Mitt might be catching some zzzzz’s in a Motel 6 on the outskirts of Dayton…

  132. amy Says:

    2thepoint

Mitt is sitting in his hotel room. He has only the light on the table on. His feet are propped up on the other chair. The rest of the room is dark. He is writing his speech for his vp nomination at the convention.

  133. Leslie Says:

So Pawlenty and Huck confirmed they won’t be there and Mitt will be there. Hmmmm. This is driving me crazy.

  134. amy Says:

I am glad there are others here. I would hate to look like I am talking to myself. Too bad the chat isnt used anymore.

  135. Chris Says:

No, Mitt is monitoring this thread from either his sisters home or the local Marriott, and lauging his butt off in French!

  136. 2thepoint Says:

Better yet, I think Mitt landed in a private airfield in Dayton and was whisked away to a delapidated warehouse where the Mittmobile has been locked up. He’s barricaded in there right now, feet up on the porta-table munching down a bowl of Ann’s granola.

    :)

  137. amy Says:

Maybe they put a little cot under the stage with his backpack. All he needs is some snacks, whitey teeth whitener, and hair gel for in the morning.

  138. StevenInBrooklyn Says:

OK, goodnight all. My guess is that I’ll be right back here at 9am or so. I will pray for good things–really!

  139. 2thepoint Says:

Amy, I’m glad y’all are here, too. The announcement is only hours away…

Mitt could be stuffed in a sleeping bag on Mac’s hotel room floor with two burly Secret Service guys watching his every move…

  140. je Says:

  141. amy Says:

I better get to sleep. It will be a long and exciting day when mitt gets picked as vp tomorrow. I predict I will wake up about 5am and check in.

  142. bigmo Says:

Huck is probably drowning his sorrows with some fried squirrell and a big glass of “the right” Jesus Juice. Mitt? Whereabouts unknown…

  143. 2thepoint Says:

G’night BrooklynSteve. Our prayers will intertwine with yours tonight.

  144. amy Says:

Hope the secret service dont have to sleep on the floor beside him 2thepoint.

  145. 2thepoint Says:

Amy, Chris, and bigmo - funny comments!

    Sweet dreams, Amy.

  146. amy Says:

Mitt might actually be having trouble sleeping knowing he has such great supporters who are on the net talking about him right now.

  147. Karen Says:

Good night all… you have been very entertaining! Sweet dreams after your thoghtful prayers! K

  148. amy Says:

    night 2 : )

  149. bigmo Says:

I still think there’s a slight chance its Palin. Its just so…maverick-y. Come on, Mitt.

  150. bigmo Says:

Goodnight to everyone going to bed. I’ll be up a little longer.

  151. 2thepoint Says:

Amy, yeah, a trio of snores. Jus’ kiddin’!

It’s late and this has been one goof-ball day, hasn’t it?!

  152. 2thepoint Says:

Nighty-nite, Karen. Hey, this is getting Waltonesque…

  153. bigmo Says:

Eh, no movement on Intrade in awhile. They must all be sleeping. See you tomorrow. Thanks for the conversation.

  154. 2thepoint Says:

bigmo, are we the last two standing?

  155. 2thepoint Says:

Get some good rest, bigmo. In about three hours, the east coast will be rumblin’ again.

  156. Eric Says:

I’m up all night @ work.. been following this thread, maybe I’ll know before 630am!

  157. Chris Says:

I’m up too. I own my own business and have been uploading reports. I’ll be here fo awhile. Only 8 more to go…., then tomorrow I have about 28 reports! AGHHHH. Of all days!

  158. 2thepoint Says:

Eric and Chris, I’m still with ya.

    Here’s a new report from twincities.com:

  159. 2thepoint Says:

Another poll from http://www.usnews.com: “Given another chance to vote for the Republican presidential nominee, now that you’ve seen Sen. John McCain in action, would you pick him or another candidate?

    http://www.usnews.com/blogs/washington-whispers/2008/08/28/gop-focus-for-mccain-veep-on-romney-then-lieberman-and-pawlenty.html

Mitt is at 59% - waaaaay ahead. Go vote!

  160. Celest Says:

I have been following Romneys campaign since before he announced his run for Pres. and ever since I have been checking the news on the net and these blogs. This blog has given me the most peace of mind because you are all feeling the same anxious feelings that I am. I wouldn’t have been able to sleep tonight if I didnt read your comments so thank you and its good to know that I am not the only one getting my hopes up. I just hope McCain doesn’t let us down. What an amazing campaign it will be with Mitt as VP. I hope McCain has prayed about this huge decision, to make the right choice, which I think is Mitt!

  161. Sarah Says:

AHHHHHH! All of you guys have been driving me insane with this back and forth. I am heading for bed. Good night from the west coast. We will know tomorrow one way or another.

  162. Chris Says:

On mittwatch, signing out. Hope the SS dudes are cute!

FYI - They would have already been with PawPaw at the kids vollyball game. As soon as Mac notifies them, they have to go to the guy.

Hummm. just one more thing to consider and sleep on?

Night from the land of yawn.

  163. 2thepoint Says:

Well, it’s 12:15 A.M. here on the west coast and I’m calling it a day. A wild day. In less than nine hours we’ll know the answer to the BIG question.

Over and out, Eric, and anyone else still awake.

  164. StevenInBrooklyn Says:

Romney Expected To Appear In Dayton Tomorrow

    29 Aug 2008 01:28 am
So — two senior McCain campaign officials confirm that John McCain will appear with his vice presidential pick in Dayton, Ohio tomorrow at noon ET.

And Gov. Mitt Romney expects to be in Dayton, Ohio tomorrow, having been asked there by the McCain campaign, a reliable source close to Romney says. (Another source says Romney will be in Boston.)

Gov. Tim Pawlenty is currently at the governors’ mansion in Minneapolis. There is no guidance about his schedule.

We don’t know if all the VP hopefuls have been summoned to Dayton; we don’t know if some have. (MIke Huckabee won;’t be going.)

It would be weird, wouldn’t it, to force the losers in this contest to appear onstage with the winners mere hours after they got the news…..

I’m NOT saying that Romney will be the pick. We may be missing an entirely different side of the story.

  165. Mit 10 Says:

I think McCain should come to the American people tomorrow and say I HEARD YOU AND I PICKED ROMNEY. Then Romney and McCain should go forward and clearly state what they will do and remind the voters about OB inability to be specific. He will cut programs that don’t work, well what programs will that be.

  166. JA Says:

It’s 5:38 AM here in Illinois and I’m up looking for Mitt news. After months of speculation, we will know for sure in just a few hours! I am feeling so nervous.

  167. Doug Says:

JA - also here in Illinois! Where about are you from? Also have been up checking the Mitt news…

  168. JA Says:

We’re up in the northwest corner of IL, Doug. How about you?

  169. Paulee & Mike Says:

    Well, Goodmorning, all
Quite a roller coaster ride. What a night, I’m so punchy, I feel like Mccain is putting us through the ringer. They all love Obama’s speech, I think it was very elaborate for the suffering going on in this country. Politician’s are beginning to look very corrupt to me. It is all about them, not about fixing our messes. I’m disgusted, maybe just burned out from no sleep.
Say Huck not going, Paw doing his radio show, cancelled all other appt. Say Mitt is on way back to Calf. What the H is going on? All headfakes??? I think we need some hints. HELP, anyone got anything to sustain us til noon?

  170. Doug Says:

JA - We’re up towards the Northeast corner - Island Lake. Around the Woodstock area, about 10 miles south of the Wisconsin border. My wife has lived in Illinois her whole life and she said even though it is so Dem here, the suburbs of Chicago have always been heavy republican. I know the counties of Lake and McHenry voted heavily for Mitt in the primaries. We went and saw Mitt when he was here campaigning in a suburb south of Chicago - what an experience!! So glad to make an acquaintance here in the state of Illinois.

  171. Wolfagain Says:

For What it’s Worth Dept: Mark Halperin is reporting that Romney will be in Columbus today and Pawlenty WON’T! That’s as far as he will go for now.

  173. Chris Says:

Well, if your going for total inexperience, palin fits the bill. I can’t vote forher as I feel she needs to be with her children.

However, she is still scheduled to be handing out quarters at the Alaska state fair this afternoon… Can someone check that?

  174. Chris Says:

Just heard on KSL JUST NOW (listening to Bill Bennett.)

    Romney in Ohio today
Pawlenty not. Pawlenty said “Draw your own conculsions from THAT”.

    BREAKING NEWS
    NBC News and news services
    updated 2 minutes ago
DENVER - Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty has been told he won’t be Republican presidential hopeful John McCain’s running mate, NBC News’ David Gregory reported Friday.

Earlier in the day, Pawlenty himself downplayed his chances.

“I’m not going to be there. I plan to be at the state fair. You can draw your conclusion from that,” Pawlenty said on his weekly call-in radio show on WCCO-AM in Minneapolis.

  176. Wolfagain Says:

IT’S ROMNEY!!!!!!!! e-traders have just dumped on Pawley!! Down 63 points in 10 minuets! Mitt is suddenly UP over 60 points!

  177. SED Says:

    Morning Everyone.

Fox this morning is now confirming that Pawlenty is not coming to Ohio. It looks like Tim is out.

However, there is a strong rumor that Palin may have flown in late last night. Apparantly there is strong movement in this direction.

It looks like we may be down to the sensationalist pick vs the pragmatic one.

  178. Chris Says:

    NO PALIN. NO IDENITY POLITICS.

wHERE IS MITT? Is Mitt still MMIA? (Mitt Missing in Action, not Mitt’s Mutual Improvement Association!).

  179. JoeinMA Says:

Remember that quote from Romney yesterday? He said something like he is ‘no longer being considered’ for VP. Well, Mitt always says ‘words have meaning’. No longer ‘considered’ because he was already ‘chosen’. :-)

  180. SED Says:

Fox has confirmed that Mitt is in Boston and it looks like its Sarah Palin.

  181. Paulee & Mike Says:

Not Mitt! I’m so very sorry guys, this is so totally unfair!

  182. Chris Says:

Why is KSl continuing to report that Mitt is the pick? I JUST heard it again.

What proof is Mitt in Boston? McCain camp was to have confimred he is in Ohio. Actually as of last night, no one knew where he was.

  183. John Says:

Palin! Mr. McCain, you just lost my money and my vote. The one good thing about this is that after Obama wins, Republicans can wash our hands of Juan McAmnesty. After 4 years of Obama, America will be ready for Mitt Romney in 2012.
    Romney/Jindal 2012!

  184. Chris Says:

John I agree. He just handed the election to Obama. What a deeb. I can’t vote for someone with the responsiblity of 5 children, regardless of WHAT religion she is (evang.). I could really care less. The press will eat her alive with her ethics issues. She’s not ready for prime time.

But heck, Obama is very good for my business. As the economy tanks, my business skyrockets!

  185. StevenInBrooklyn Says:

I’m still not convinced its Palin.

  186. Doug Says:

I am not convinced it is Palin either…

  187. SED Says:

    Unbelievable.

A governor from Alaska? She can’t bring Michigan, Nevada, or Colorado.

All she brings is the womens vote. She can probaly increase the turnout for women in the GOP. However, my understanding is that pro-choice women despise pro-life women.

  188. Chris Says:

Now KLO is reporting that late last night, Mitt was told he as no it.

If if’ palin, I’ll not be voting for John Mc. Sorry. I feel her place is with her children. Besides. we need the door wide open for Mitt in 12.

Anyone else smell convention revlolt in the air?

  189. Doug Says:

OK - here’s something to get through these next 3 hours….

“You know it’s going to be alright…”

  190. Mit 10 Says:

No Mitt No Money No McCain

  191. JoeinMA Says:

Unless this whole misdirection leads back to Mitt, I am now gonna start the chant for Bob Barr

  192. SED Says:

Sarah Palin the Alaskan beauty queen.

    There goes the experience argument.

  193. Sarah Says:

JoeinMA I agree. I will join you in voting Bob Barr if this is true. FOX just updated and said Romney not VP. I am going nuts. I can’t pull myself together after another disappointment from the Republicans….I just can’t believe that Maverick McCain will be so stupid. Doesn’t he want to win?!

  194. Chris Says:

Fox suddenly credible? Remember, they’ve got Huck on it’s staff!

  195. Karen Says:

How can anyone be so foolish as to pick someone that NO one guarantees a win with. At least with Mitt, he had the best chance!

Perhaps it is best that our Mitt not have to be so closely tied to someone with this poor ability to make an extremely important judgement and choice!

I don’t like to call names and you notice I try not to, but her goes

BOZO!!!! With big red nose and shoes and all! makes a great image doesn’t it???

  196. Sarah Says:

Actually to tell you the truth…if its Palin and McCain does win I will say he is a genius, but hit him over the head anyways.

  197. StevenInBrooklyn Says:

    Made Up?
    John Podhoretz - 08.29.2008 - 9:14 AM

After reports that Sarah Palin had flown from Alaska to Ohio, it turns out those reports are invented. How do these things happen, exactly? Who made it up first? Who played a game of telephone.

Can a new single thread be started?

  198. Tammy Says:

McCain thinks he can pick someone else and still get Mitt to campaign for him. He’ll just use him. He wants it both ways.

  199. Sarah Says:

Okay…I understand about fox’s credibility but they have been the fairest during this election with the exception of Dick Morris and Huckabee.

I am going to get my stomach so worked up that when I put my cereal into my mouth I am not going to be able to hold down my food.

  200. Chris Says:

has anyone confirmed where Mitt is? As of last night, Mac’s people were telling the press that Romney will be in Ohio. Now Romney’s peeps say that he’s in Boston?

    Where the heck is he?

If it’s Leiberman, I’ll not vote for the ticket, and pray for revolt at convention

  201. Sarah Says:

Did anyone ever have thoughts that it might be against conventional wisdom that a Mormon could be on the Presidential ticket as either number 1 or number 2? Do you think this is what McCain meant by saying be prepared for an “unconventional” pick?

    Just thinking out loud.

  202. Celest Says:

Wow, I am really disappointed. Palin seems like a good woman, but I think Obama will win now. This is really depressing. I will vote for McCain/Palin just because it is the right thing to do, but I truly believe they will lose. If he chose Mitt he would have had a chance, but he knew Mitt was a good guy and still will do everything to get him elected, so he decided to have it both ways. I really hope McCain gets elected and puts Romney on his cabinet so Romney will still be able to help this country and get even more experience to add to his resume for 2012, when McCain wont run for re-election and Palin wont run for President because she has way too much to handle even as a VP with her 5 children, including one with down syndrome. I think after being VP for four years, she will not want to continue because of the strain on her family so I doubt she will try to run for President. Hopefully because Romney is going to be so loyal in supporting and campaigning for them, both Palin and McCain will support Romney for Pres in 2012! This might end up being the best thing for Romney’s future, if McCain wins or even if Obama wins Romney can come back and save us in 2012. Hopefully by then all the bigots will get over themselves and realize what a mistake they made by not electing him in 2008!
