Pro-Huckabee Activists to Dissuade McCain on Romney Ticket
There are a boatload of these stories circulating through the MSM and the blogosphere the last couple of days and they sound remarkably alike. Am I getting cynical, or do you think someone has released talking points to the usual suspects?

Supporters of former presidential candidate Mike Huckabee will meet with presumptive Republican nominee John McCain on Wednesday to persuade him not to name former campaign rival Mitt Romney as his running mate.
McCain is tentatively scheduled to meet with about 10 social conservative activists and religious leaders from Michigan, according to The Detroit News. Another group of about 40 Huckabee supporters will meet separately with a McCain campaign liaison, said Debra Matney, a Huckabee supporter who is helping to organize the meeting.
Leah Yoon, a McCain campaign spokeswoman, confirmed that the Republican candidate plans to meet with “grass-roots and faith-based leaders” during his visit to Michigan on Wednesday.
McCain’s vice presidential pick is expected to be a major point of discussion at both meetings.Although McCain has remained tight-lipped on his vice presidential selection process, insiders say Romney is among the short list for the position.
But Matney said the Michigan activists and religious leaders want Huckabee to be on the ticket, but if that is not possible, then they want Romney not to be on it.
Romney, a Michigan native, was popular among conservatives earlier in the primaries. But then Huckabee became the favorite for conservative voters given his consistent record of conservative stances, [ Editor’s Note: ??? ] his ability to weave biblical references into speeches and his deadpan sense of humor.

I wonder, was the McCain campaign chair for Mich at that meeting too? His last name is Romney. Oh, to have been a fly on THAT wall!
I really don’t think McCain should be giving these folks the time of day. All they want is their guy on the ballot, when he has said he won’t take the job because it does not pay enough.
August 13th, 2008 at 6:22 pm
I remain incredulous to their protests that their opposition to Romney is based on social conservatism and not about religion. Their support for Huckabee is completely about religion. Why would their opposition not be?
Why assemble so many activists to oppose one man when Tom Ridge and Joe Lieberman are also on the VP short list and represent a greater threat to social conservatism? Its because they have another agenda.
For some reason, they see Romney as the greatest threat to their guy’s political aspirations. They have to take him out now because if Romney gets the VP slot they know it will be all over for Huckabee in 2012 and 2016.
I think its all over for Huckabee anyway but their religious zeal prevents them from seeing what is.

McCain has seen and experienced first hand Mitt’s potential. If he is foolish enough to believe Huck’s clan, that is truly sad. As I said before, if they can’t have Huck they will be sure it’s not Mitt. Mitt’s brother is chair in that state for a reason, they need to take their marbles and go home for good! Romney people are not causing this kind of turmoil. I am so sick of their rotten attitudes. Huck did himself in, and his record is not that conservative as governor. Get over it, people. Huck is not Mitt!!!!!!!!!
August 13th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
Lori: Mitt is just that, a bigger threat to the future. I agree, Huck’s shown his hand, he’s not Presidential. He makes mean spirited remarks, just not professional. The truth comes out when he goes off script. I’m not impressed and never was.

Go over to townhall and see them going CRAZY over Ridge! It’s actually funny. I maintain that Personal Responsiblity, and Free Agency will stop abortion. Not new laws that are not enforceable. But to hear some of those guys talk… (and yes, it’s mostly men, oddly enough!)
August 13th, 2008 at 9:19 pm
Chris,
What do you mean by Free Agency? What do you mean by “not new laws that are not enforceable”? Any new laws would be just as enforceable as any other laws for other reasons. Email me at aggieschip@aol.com if you want.
August 13th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
David,
What i’m saying is that I don’t condone abortion. But it will take more than laws to prevent and stop it. Perhaps if every family took on the responsiblity to teach both in word and example, that the law of Chasity works, we would see a decrease in abortion. Instead, we just want to pass laws, stand in front of clinics yelling and screaming when the REAL problem is within the walls of our homes.
August 13th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
Laws do not prevent any kind of crime from happening, they just provide punishment for the action and hope to reduce the behavior. There are still thefts, murders, etc. every day, that doesn’t mean we legalize those actions.
As for this article, do they understand the meaning of the word deadpan? The Huckster’s humor isn’t deadpan, its incredibly corny puns (his answer to education reform is to “Unleash weapons of mass instruction”……..har.) Maybe they are referring to the straight face he kept when he said when he raised taxes as governor, he wasn’t raising taxes, he was raising hope. I could definitely see humor in that statement but Huck was being totally serious.
August 14th, 2008 at 6:24 am
Chris,
Laws are also a good “teaching” tool. It teaches our youth the difference of right and wrong. If something is not against the law, our youth can assume that there is nothing wrong with it. Yes, it would be nice if in every home our children were taught that abortion is wrong. But, that is unrealistic. It won’t happen.

Okay, Huck finally used Fox to give his message: Mitt is not consistent enough to be considered for VP! He was chomping on food, real classy, as they showed him responding. I will e-mail Mike Huckabee at Fox today and I suggest we all do and express our complete disgust with him and his followers. Also was mentioned the followers upsetment that Mitt is a Mormon, once again. That they are warning Mccain!!!!! What a group of
bigots, how can they call themselves Christians???? This is against our Constitution!!!!! To think Mccain is considering Lieberman, Ridge, Guilliani, Bloomberg, is totally unrepuplican as far as I’m concerned. I haven’t forgotton the
Monday, LIEBERMAN STOOD ON THE STEPS IN WASHINGTON STATING MITT HAD A TIMELINE FOR IRAQ, ONE DAY BEFORE THE FLORIDA PRIMARY. I’m e-mailing RNC,CPAC, McCain,Huckabee at Fox.
I hope we can help Mitt. How about our friends from NY for Mitt as well? Fairness is not in McCain’s vocabulary, if he pulls this on our country, neither is unclouded judgement.
August 14th, 2008 at 8:57 am
Hey, can somebody tell Huckabee that neither he nor Romney are running anymore? Seems he has neglected to suspend his campaign (for president, if that was what his campaign was ever really about. True colors, eh…
)
Also, I’ve been Googling to find ANYTHING that Romeny has said that is even remotely contrarian or disparaging about Huckabee since suspending his campaign, and there is not even a whisper. “By their fruits ye shall know them.”
Huckabee is a rotten apple that is doing a disservice to the party by maintaining old (personal) rifts. Get him out of the bushel basket before he sours the lot.
Romney has been unrelenting in his support FOR McCain, sidestepping any and all attempts by interviewing media to pull him off topic, and that is why I’m still FOR Romney. Romney is a classy guy. Unfortunately class is something absent from today’s body politic so it seems strange and foreign. When the cynical media calls him “fake”, it’s simply because they can’t believe he is that nice. So remember, what some label wooden is simply misunderstood integrity and class.

Paulee and frozone, your comments are spot-on!
I just saw grinning weasel Huckabee on FOX news and the weaselness of this greasy rodent is beyond human vocabulary. One could see dust plumes rising on the set as he tried to claw his way out of the dirty hole he finds himself in from his anti-Mormon remarks, anti-Mormon innuendoes, and anti-Mormon activities.
Huckaweasel’s beady eyes glistened as he twitched his nose and stated that he absolutely has NO problem with Romney’s Mormonism and that he (Huck) has known many fine Mormons - Mike Leavitt, Orrin Hatch. But Romney? Oh, no! That really gets his whiskers in a twist! He stated that Romney in MANY WAYS has had VERY different swings of position - that there are better choices that will have the APPROVAL of value voters. When asked about Tom Ridge he had glowing remarks about his friendship with Tom and wriggled around Ridge’s pro-choice stance.
Here’s the latest scurrying of his Holy Weaselness: Huckabee Shoots Pilot for Fox News: http://www.observer.com/2008/media/huckabee-shoots-pilot-fox-news-0
weasel : any of various small active carnivorous mammals (genus Mustela of the family Mustelidae, the weasel family) that are able to prey on animals (as rabbits) larger than themselves
2: a sneaky, untrustworthy, or insincere person
I rest my case.
August 14th, 2008 at 11:35 am
maybe some of those good mormons Huck claims to know can make a phone call and call him on the carpet for his idiot remarks. I’m calling Hatch, Bennet, Huntsman, Levit, Isokoff, and Crapo - any and all Mormons Huck claims to know and tell them to get on the phone to this loser.
Huckabee needs to be taken down and taken down NOW. His followers are lemmings.

Can someone please get the video link that shows Huckabee on Fox this morning bashing Romney? Please post it on this site.

If you go to hotair.com (one of Michelle Malkin’s websites) they also have the clip, and I enjoyed reading the comments section. Man, I thought WE enjoyed bashing the Huckster…
August 14th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
WHY THE HECK DID FOX HIRE HIM? I STILL SAY CONFLICT OF INTEREST. HE HAS NEVER BEEN FAIR AND BALANCED! HUCK EVEN TURNED ON, HIS SO CALLED FRIEND, MCCAIN, WHEN HE OVERSTAYED IN THE PRIMARY. HE STATED, “BECAUSE IT WAS MCCAIN’S TURN TO BE PRESIDENT AS HE WAS TOLD, WAS NOT REASON FOR HIM TO QUIT.” CAN YOU IMAGINE THE EGO. WITH FRIENDS LIKE HIM, MCCAIN NEEDS NO ENEMIES.
FROZONE: I HAVE NEVER HEARD MITT BAD MOUTH HUCK, HE DID TELL HIM TO STOP WHINNING ONCE AND I MUST SAY HE DESERVED IT. HOWEVER, IT DID NOT TAKE LONG FOR HUCK TO RETURN THE COMMENT TO MITT. DID YOU NOT JUST LOVE HOW HUCK PRETENDED HE WON ON HIS OWN W.VIRGINIA? THE BEHIND THE SCENES HELP OF MCCAIN BECAUSE HE DID SO POORLY.
2thepoint: HOW DO WE EXPOSE THIS SORE LOOSER?
CHRIS:DO THE CALLS, WE NEED TO BE HEARD.I’LL BE GLAD WHEN MITT GETS BACK. I HOPE HE TELLS HUCK WHERE TO GO AND DEFENDS
HIMSELF, THIS IS SO PITIFUL! DID YOU NOTICE HUCK WAITED TILL MITT WAS OUT OF THE COUNTRY, HE’S SO SNEAKY, TYPICAL POLITICIAN, THESE DAYS!!!!!!!!
August 14th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
Didn’t the whole Romney conflict start because Huck brought his religion into the primary? Didn’t Huck have to apologize to Mitt? Am I dreaming? Did Huck just falsely state his position in that Fox video?
August 14th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
There is no surprise here. I have just been waiting as I am sure all of you have for him to crawl back out of his hole to come on the attack. I had such astrong feeling that once it got close, the attacks would begin… do we want this for Mitt? I for one think he is man enough to handle it his record stands for itself and so does he.
You should all go over to http://www.deseretnews.com and defend him over there. There are alot of good comments and as always, there are those that don’t understand what it means to bear false witness and have no problem participating… disgusting.
Back to Huck, I was listening to Hannity and a woman called just frantic saying she was a Chritian and wanted to impress on the Christian community to pray to God that HE could inspire McCain to pick ROMNEY!!!!!!!!! She was so sweet. However, she did excuse Romney for not being a born again question because he is so moral and has so much integrity. Amusing. I really wanted to call in and explain his religiosity and his Christianity. The point is she is trying to get other Christians to pray for Mitt! WOW..
A few minutes later, Sean read the “breaking news” that Huckabee is fighting against Romney being on the ticket. Finally, Huck is ‘out’ with his hate. Sean said, ‘why would he do this? maybe it is because it is getting down to the wire and he is smart enough to know that it is between Romney, Pawlenty and Leiberman…
I advise calling the mccain camp and letting your feelings be known.. I am going to do it soon! Lieberman will cost the race I think…
August 14th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
Huck will do this because if he can’t have vp neither will Mitt. He’s mean, competative, a sore loser, and his ego is like Obama. It’s all about him!
Karen: I will write Huck at Fox, Hannity, Mccain camp and RNC. We can’t let Huck attack Mitt while away without speaking up. He did it! I predicted he would! How does he sleep at night?Lieberman, should be sec. of state, not vp.
August 14th, 2008 at 4:59 pm
Hi again,
I was listening to Hannity and I heard the pollsters on there talking about the vp stakes. They were both convinced that the Lieberman talk is just that, talk. It at least made me hopeful. They were both convinced that Mitt is not the best choice, but is most likely THE choice!!!!! I was actually very uplifted. They said that McCain is not so stupid that he doesnt’ realize what putting Lieberman on the ticket would cost him. Wow, I felt better after listening to them, I just pray they are right.
I think Huck is extremely jealous that Mitt is so much more…K
August 14th, 2008 at 6:01 pm
Karen
Even his own followers are having a problem defending this latest gaffe. You should see what some of the boards are thumping him with! “I used to be a huck supporter, but…” and it goes on and one.
Sun is rising in China. No other names floated this week. Huck thinks the Russians invaided Atlanta, and my hubby still has a job! Life is sweet.
August 14th, 2008 at 6:14 pm
Nice as always to hear from you Chris. I did read one board about Huck, can’t remember just which one though. He is destroying himself. Hey, if you get a chance, can you go onto the desnews site and comment on the “dems attack Romney” story… I have been, but I am feeling a little alone on there just now. There are those on there that are insistent that he is a bad guy in good guy clothes. It is hard to convince them otherwise… icky!
August 14th, 2008 at 6:16 pm
I’ve been there!
August 14th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
Good, keep up the good work.. arent they funny though?
August 14th, 2008 at 6:48 pm
Watched Huckabee on the Fox news segment. He let his hand slip. He said he wished Ridge would become pro-life. As if to say if he did that, there would be no opposition. Well, here we have Romney who became pro-life in word and deed but Huck’s people refuse to accept him into their fold because the issue really is his religion. His argument against Romney is blatantly dishonest.
He also said, “we are going to be supportive” whoever McCain picks. Then he corrected himself to say “I am anyway” instead of we. Because he knows very well, that they, his supporters, will not and he truly does not want them to support Romney. What he should have said is that he will work to get their support and stop this juvenile attempt to oppose Romney who shares their values while they ignore the VP picks who do not. What a hypocrite!

Update, 12:55 PM: Politico’s Michael Calderone got the following statement from Fox News:
“Contrary to what was reported in today’s NY Post — Mike Huckabee has not shot a pilot for Fox News Channel. We are in discussion about developing a show with him in the future, but remain in the early planning stages.” From http://www.observer.com/2008/media/huckabee-shoots-pilot-fox-news-0
Great! It’s not a done deal, yet. We need to flood Fox News with emails stating our adamant opposition to Huckadumbdumb having a position in their organization, let alone having a program of his own. Give him the boot! I envision him as a perfect fit on the old-time TV show “Hee-Haw” (pickin’ and grinnin’). Or, he could give Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane a run for his money and be best buds with Boss Hogg. Share a little moonshine and a squirrel sandwich…
“Just good ol’ boys, never meanin’ no harm…”
August 15th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
Paulee, good question on how to expose loser Huckabee.
Fortunately, Huckaweasel has finally been exposed in an irrefutable way by a grand universal principle which he has chosen to ignore: Sooner or later THE TRUTH ALWAYS COMES OUT! The more he flaps his yap, the more he damages himself. The blogs I’ve read yesterday and today have awakened the public in a BIG WAY to his bigotry against Romney.
Huckamullah, just keep up your passive-aggressive beatin’ on the heads of those fine members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with your Bible and crucifix. Our nation is watching, and more importantly, our Savior is watching…
August 15th, 2008 at 7:39 pm
I don’t know about you guys, but I wrote to Fox about Huckabee. I was very nice, but very disapproving.
I too read a bunch of comments about him and it does seem to me that the tide is changing. And that he was nicer about Mitt today than he has been is very telling as well. I wonder if Fox just said, “if you are going to work for us, you have to be nicer…”. Probably not in this weird and unkind world.. but I do have to wonder what happened!
