Reparations By Another Name

August 10th, 2008 Posted in Barack Obama, Economics, economy

When I read the article written by the editorial staff of IBD and saw the multi-trillion dollar give aways proposed by Barack Obama it only took a couple of seconds to figure out what Obama is trying to do.

The last thing he wants is to do is start making direct cash payments to the offended parties. He wants to engineer a massive shift in wealth that will be administered by……you guessed it, him and his buddies in the federal bureaucracy. Thereby assuring relevancy and employment for the income redistributers for generations to come, assuming, of course, that they don’t wreck the American economy for themselves and everyone else in the process.

Election ‘08: Barack Obama says Washington shouldn’t just offer apologies for slavery, but also “deeds.” Don’t worry, he says, he’s not talking about direct reparations. Relieved? Don’t be.

‘I consistently believe that when it comes to . . . reparations,” Obama recently told a gathering of minority journalists, “the most important thing for the U.S. government to do is not just offer words, but offer deeds.”

A few days later, he clarified his remarks, saying he’s not calling for direct cash payments to descendents of slaves, but rather indirect aid in the form of government programs that will “close the gap” between what he sees as white America and black America.

He says government should offer “universal” programs — such as universal health care, universal mortgage credits, college tuition, job training and even universal 401(k)s — that “disproportionately affect people of color.”

In other words, reparations by another name.

So what do I get for the lives of my ancestors who who bled and died to free the slaves? This whole idea of reparations or “universal” programs makes a COMPLETE MOCKERY of the millions who died to end slavery. Apparently, the cost of their lives wasn’t a large enough sacrifice for Barack Hussein Obama. It sickens me.

    Stefany,

    Great points.

  3. Karen Says:

Yes Stefany, what do I get for my great grandfather who got his whole side and arm blown away only to spend 3 months in a field hospital to get well enough to go out and fight again????????????????

Thanks for the great point Stefany! Reparations are a great example of not being able to leave the past where it belongs. People who dredge up the past are unhealthy and unwilling to bury the hatchet and make up and be friends and this is exactly why we are in the fix we are in… too much hate and not enough forgiveness and love.

    argh!

  4. Chris Says:

Will I get some cash for my family that was murdered, raped and had all they owned stolen from the as they were chased like animals out of the midwest?

If they get theirs, I want mine.

And how about my family, the italian immigrants who were lynched in the the largest mass lynching in the US in the mid 19th century. My family went on to better themselves, worked hard in coal mines and ship yards to provide for the next generation, so their children could go to college and in 2 generations we all have post grad degrees. We wouldn’t have TAKEN a hand out. My people had pride. I will NEVER pay a dime in taxes if Obama is elected. I will leave this country and return to Italy.
