Romney to Attend Olympics Despite McCain’s Vow That He Wouldn’t As President

    August 4, 2008 @ 1:26 pm by Walter Alarkon

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) said he plans to attend the upcoming Olympics in Beijing, even though John McCain has said that he wouldn’t go if he were president.
Romney, the CEO of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, said that the focus of the games should be on the athletes, not on China’s government.

“Well, China, major country in the world, offered to spend $25 billion putting on the games,” said Romney on MSNBC Monday. “And, frankly, the games are about the individuals that compete there, not about the country that hosts the games. So I’m hopeful you’ll see progress in China as a result of the games, but time will tell.”

Romney, who is considered a possible running mate for McCain, added: “From my standpoint, the host country is not the important player in an Olympics. It’s the athletes of America. And I go to support our athletes and cheer them on and have them know that we’re behind them.”

We’re behind you, Mitt, and behind our American athletes.

    Go U.S.A.!
