Lest we forget amid the Palin-mania going on, there is a Democratic candidate in this race named Barack Obama. Click here to learn a bit about his parents. (trust me on this, it’s worth at least 3.5 chuckles)

Just in case…

August 31st, 2008 | 35 Comments | Posted in Mitt Romney

Interesting article from the Boston Globe about what might be in store for Mitt if McCain doesn’t win.

One productive thing that any of us can do to support Mitt in whatever his future political activities are is donate to his PAC, Free and Strong America. This will help keep him “a player” in nationa politics and help lay the groundwork for 2012 just in case…

Stay Clicked Tomorrow for Eyewitness Report On McCain/Palin/Romney Campaign Rally

The last time I was this tired was at the end of the Iowa Caucuses. The McCain Campaign was hoping for a crowd in the 8,000 to 10,000 range for today’s Rally. They got 23,000. Mitt Romney can sure goose the gate with an appearance, can’t he?

OK, OK maybe McCain and Palin had something to do with it as well. It was a blast! More tomorrow after 8 hours of sleep.

Experts: Siver Lining for “Viable” Mitt Romney

August 30th, 2008 | 156 Comments | Posted in John McCain, Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin

My thoughts exactly!

http://www.bostonherald.com/news/national/politics/2008/view.bg?articleid=1115954&srvc=rss

Mitt Romney - once a top contender to be John McCain’s running mate - may have suffered a bruised ego when he was passed over for the little known Gov. Sarah Palin, but the ex-Bay State governor emerged as a major player on the national stage, experts said.

Romney, 61, could land a plum Cabinet post, perhaps as treasury or commerce secretary, as a reward for months of campaigning for McCain, including traveling to Denver this past week to attack Sen. Barack Obama during the Democratic National Convention.

“He’s a very viable candidate” for those posts, said Julian Zelizer, a Princeton University political scientist. “Wall Street investment types always have a strong role in the Republican Party. And his enormous wealth is a virtue.”

And should McCain falter in November, Romney has gained enough national recognition to launch another bid for the White House in 2012.

“Not getting the VP slot is not going to be a major setback,” said Paul Watanabe, a political scientist at the University of Massachusetts at Boston.

Another scenario has Romney running for office in Utah, should Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch decide to retire, said Steve Crosby, dean of the McCormack Graduate School at UMass.

Romney, he said, is enormously popular in Utah, the center of his Mormon faith and site of his rescue of the 2000 Salt Lake City Olympics.

But don’t expect Romney to run for anything in Massachusetts.

“I can’t imagine he has a political future here,” Crosby said, “after making Massachusetts a punch line in his campaign.”

Meanwhile, Romney played the good sport yesterday, praising the Arizona senator’s surprise pick.

“Gov. Palin’s story is one that all Americans will find inspiring,” Romney said in a statement.

“She’s a Washington outsider with a commitment to the conservative principles that will make our nation stronger. I look forward to campaigning for Sen. McCain, Gov. Palin and Republicans all across the country,” Romney said.

McCain had the media guessing all day Thursday and all morning yesterday as to who his running mate would be. At various points, Romney, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge and Democrat-turned-independent Sen. Joe Lieberman all emerged as possible picks.

It is being reported that Ann Marie Curling and her husband Joel were seen having lunch today at the Kirkwood, Mo. Panera’s with two local Republican operatives. While it is not known what subjects were discussed, the conversation was very animated and lasted some two hours.

Further reports indicate that Ann Marie and Joel Blodgett headed to Wentzville, Mo. after the extended political lunch, were they will spend the night before heading to T.R. Hughes ballpark tomorrow for the big rally with McCain/Palin/Romney and Huckabee……Developing

Looking for Contibutors

Given the fact that Sarah Palin was chosen at John McCain’s running mate for Vice President of the USA, and the ticket is now set we here at comMITTed to Romney are at a crossroads. This site has almost exclusively been about Mitt since its inception back on June 22, 2005. While Mitt will always be it’s main focus during the next three months it is going into high gear for McCain/Palin. We have no choice, and while we all have a level of disappointment/sadness that Romney was not the pick the stark reality is before us. If we sit back and rest on our laurels and don’t do anything, if we wallow in self-pity, or if we become complacent we will wake up on the morning of November 5th with President-Elect Barack Obama, and Vice-President-Elect Joe Biden. While this ticket is not our first choice, I believe it’s our only choice in terms of safeguarding us against world-wide terrorism and safeguarding our distinct American Values.

To that end, I would like to bring on some fresh new contributors. The only requirement is that you don’t bash the McCain/Palin ticket.

If you’re interested, drop me a line at P R @ C O M M I T T E D T O R O M N E Y . C O M.

Romney to Adress Republican Convention on Sept.3

August 29th, 2008 | 16 Comments | Posted in John McCain, Mitt Romney, Sarah Palin

The first step on Mitt Romney’s journey to the White House in 2012 will be taken on Sept. 3, 2008
when he strides towards the speaker’s podium at the Republican National Convention. I wish the Republican ticket well this November and I think that, since Gov. Romney wasn’t picked by John McCain, the selection of Sarah Palin keeps the GOP as the Pro Life party and that she was one of the best picks that McCain could have made under the circumstances.

If McCain picks Gov. Romney for a high profile post, such as Treasury Secretary, Mitt will be well positioned for another run. If McCain is too insecure to risk a Romney appointment, then Romney should take on the role of party-builder, as he already has. McCain is the leader of the GOP right now, but his time will pass. We should not be despondent, but rather we should be energized by what we were able to accomplish in this campaign. We have all noted the phrases that were authored by Romney, that found their way into the McCain campaign. The pro business and tax cut positions that were adopted by McCain. Even the pick of Sarah Palin, a pro life candidate, is a bow to the power of the the much maligned religious right that, to hear the MSM tell it, had lost it’s influence in the Republican Party.

The pro abortion candidate trial balloons were floated up and promptly shot down. The liberal Democrat VP pick trial balloon was floated up and promptly shot down.

So, after the input of 100’s of thousands of activists all over the country, we were able to accomplish this:

1. The Republican Party remains the Pro Life Party

2. We Will Drill Here and Drill Now

3. We Will Send a New Breed of Politician to Washington to End the Corruption

4. We Will Secure the Borders and Enforce the Rule of Law

5. We Will Start the Process of Cutting Federal Spending and Move to Balance the Budget

6. We Will Win the War in Iraq and start to Withdraw our Troops

These are Mitt Romney’s positions and because he pressed John McCain so hard in the primaries, McCain was forced to adopt several of these positions and his pick of Sarah Palin, in my view, also reflects his grudging respect for Gov. Romney and for the social, fiscal and national defense conservatives who were the driving force behind his campaign.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 3, 2008
Country First: Prosperity

“America’s best days are still to come.”
–Sen. John McCain

The American story is one of perseverance. Even in the face of tough times, the ingenuity and spirit of the American people has ushered in a new era of prosperity. Wednesday’s program will focus on John McCain’s plans to get our economy back on track and continue our long tradition of meeting the challenges we face and using our prosperity to help others. The day will conclude with an address by the vice presidential nominee.

Speakers will include:

* Mrs. Cindy McCain
* Republican Party’s Vice Presidential Nominee
* Gov. Bobby Jindal (La.)
* Former Gov. Mitt Romney (Mass.)
* U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman (Minn.)
* U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (Texas)*
* U.S. Rep. Mike Pence (Ind.)*

“Our convention will showcase a cross-section of leaders who will highlight John McCain’s long commitment to putting our country first — before self-interest or politics,” said McCain 2008 Communications Director Jill Hazelbaker. “The speakers will address John McCain’s unmatched record of service and sacrifice for America, and his vision for moving our nation forward to keep us safe and get our economy back on track.

The roster of speakers announced today includes John McCain, Mrs. Cindy McCain, 10 current and former Republican governors, five current and former U.S. Senators and two wellrespected businesswomen. Their remarks will echo the themes that have been selected for each of the convention’s four days: service, reform, prosperity and peace.

“We are excited to announce this slate of speakers, each of whom shares John McCain’s love of country and commitment to serving a cause greater than one’s own self-interest. Their remarks will be a testament to Senator McCain’s unparalleled record of service and sacrifice for America and his readiness to lead as commander in chief and move America forward,” said Maria Cino, president and CEO of the 2008 Republican National Convention.

Obama’s Nail In The Coffin & Our Advantage

August 29th, 2008 | 17 Comments | Posted in Mitt Romney

Although I am slightly perturbed by McCain’s decision, I now know he did what he had to do. I am now reassured that John will win this Fall and gain the presidency. I’m glad to report my John McCain $50 polo arrived this evening. Never be swayed by conservatives and or Republicans who admit they will vote for Barack and Biden; they are merely deserting those principles for which they believe are for when in reality, are owning up to not believing in when the going gets tough.

This era will decide how little or how great America’s chasm is when discerning rhetoric from action in the ballot box. I plead to the hundreds of visitors of this website to heed the words of Mitt Romney -

Now, to all of you, thank you, here, for caring enough about America to show up, to speak up, to stand up for conservative principles

I can’t force any of you to be motivated to campaign for a McCain - Palin ticket but I can sway your notions about the aforementioned issue. Ask yourself, is it worth it? Is it worth it to sacrifice our beliefs and our country to a man who rescinds every thing we believe in, just to show our dissatisfaction of a man who make mistakes because he, is, surprisingly, human?

Obama Attacks Palin

Ya know, McCain put out this video last night specifically to highlight the historic nature of Obama’s nomination:

So, what does Obama do upon McCain’s decision to choose Sarah Palin as his VP Nominee…

“the former mayor of a town of 9,000 with zero foreign policy experience a heartbeat away from the presidency.”

Obama is such a weasel. He can’t even give a civil response. I’m gonna be fighting HARD to ensure he doesn’t get elected President.

While I love Mitt Romney, I am very happy with this choice…A conservative woman, and a mother of a special needs child to boot (that means a whole lot to a person like me).

Minnesota Governor Suggests He Is Not McCain’s Pick

August 29th, 2008 | No Comments | Posted in John McCain, Mitt Romney

I understand the need to keep the VP choice secret. To interfere with Obama’s historic acceptance speech on the anniversary of Dr. King’s address in 1963 would have been beyond the pale.

But enough is enough. His campaign is dangerously close to crossing the line from hype to sham. After all the theatrics, if this guy comes up with a pathetic pro abortion candidate like Ridge, that’s a wrap. Last one out of the campaign office, please turn off the lights.

They are still playing the disinformation game this morning. They said days ago that the newly announced VP pick would be with them in St.Louis on the 31st. Unless they add someone to the event, that would be McCain, Huckabee and Romney. Wait a minute, that leaves open the possibility that the country singer John Rich might be McCain’s pick. ( JK )

If McCain keeps playing with us, if he passes over Romney for some not ready for prime time player, some no-name buddy of his or a pro abortion stiff, he’s going to find out we can stop his Presidential bid cold, just like we stopped the No Illegal Alien Left Behind amnesty bill of his in June 2007.

http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/08/29/mccain.vp/index.html

(CNN) – Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, often mentioned as a possible running mate for Sen. John McCain, suggested Friday that he will not be the GOP vice presidential nominee.

A Republican insider said this month that McCain campaign manager Rick Davis has called several state party chairmen and indicated that Ridge will be the Republican vice presidential pick this cycle.

But the possibility that Ridge could be McCain’s running mate sparked a backlash among conservatives because he supports abortion rights.
Another potential VP pick, Sen. Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut, also raised concerns among conservatives. Lieberman, an independent senator who was the 2000 Democratic vice presidential nominee, has been a vocal supporter of the war in Iraq, but he, too, backs abortion rights.
If McCain picks either man, it could drive away social conservatives who are already uneasy about his nomination, conservative activists warned.
In an open letter to McCain, conservative activist Richard A. Viguerie wrote, “Your indication that you’re willing to put a person who has a clear, unequivocal pro-abortion record within a heartbeat of the presidency is alarming.”
“Sen. McCain, you are exceedingly proud of being a political maverick — you wear it as a badge of honor. Well, poke the base of the Republican Party — the conservatives — in the eye one more time by choosing a pro-abortion vice presidential candidate, and conservatives will show you that two can play the maverick game,” Viguerie said.
