It’s All We Hear: Romney, Romney, Romney for McCain’s Running Mate

USNEWS.COM reports that all the buzz coming out of the McCain H.Q. is all Romney, all the time. BTW, I forget where I read the line, but someone said that they had googled “Tim Pawlenty” and the response from Google was “Who?”

Despite persistent reports that Sen. John McCain is entertaining several candidates for his running mate, only one name consistently comes up in talks to aides: Mitt Romney. That is leading his supporters and surrogates to surmise that the former presidential candidate and McCain backer has the lead in the sped-up race to pick a No. 2. “All I hear about from headquarters is Romney this and Romney that,” said a longtime McCain ally. “And everybody is saying the same thing, like they have talking points already ready for him.” Among those talking points most heard are that Romney is strong on domestic and economic issues, has been a major businessman and savior of the Salt Lake City Olympics, and performed admirably on the primary and caucus circuit. McCain allies also talk glowingly of Romney’s fundraising ability and his decision last week to eat his own campaign debt instead of competing with McCain for supporters’ dollars. Some conservatives contacted by U.S. News are hopeful the choice will be Romney. One Bush adviser said, “Romney is vetted by the national media, is good on the economy and national security—and the No. 2 vote-getter. Very strong case for VP nomination.” But others are more skeptical, worried that his reputation as a policy flip-flopper and his Mormonism will hurt McCain. Significantly, the Democrats also believe that Romney is a front-runner and have been working up an opposition research file on the former Massachusetts governor ever since he endorsed McCain.

I am getting really concerned about the hammering Mitt will get, but also the LDS church. More for him personally because he is a good man, the church has had and has heard it all before. But for him… I knew this was coming when I saw that raunchy MI add the other day…

Onward to battle I guess. poor Mitt and poor us!

    Ready, set, GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Makeli Says:

He’s doing it for our country. He knows it’s not the best scenario politically, especially if they lose. He’s doing it for the country. I sincerely believe that. He has another chance to turn something around (ie: McCain campaign, economy). It feels like Monday is the day he’ll announce. Let’s all hope and pray for the best.

  3. Mit 10 Says:

I think Romney will bring a lot of fire into this campaign. He will help define John McCain and though I don’t care for his positions or what he did to Romney, I can appreciate his story. The democrats really fear Romney and I they will probaly say “Oh now he has changed his mind about McCain. I hope they will play clips of the nice comments Romney made about McCain throughout the campaign. Also, I hope the Mass Republicans can really come to Romney’s defense. It will be dirty but this time America needs to wake up a pay attention and stop being spoon fed by the media whose only goal is to move Obama into the White House.

The schpeel about Pawlenty was a joke on Jay Leno.

  5. fritz Says:

If things are announced as we think, we’ve got to get behind these two 110%.

  6. KKSM Says:

Sorry to be dense nate, but can you explain?? I dont’ much care for Jay Leno, what happened on there???

Agreed Makeli! He is a true patriot!

  9. KKSM Says:

Thanks Nate… I almost felt sorry for Pawlenty. I always think stuff like that is going to make you feel bad…

    Go Mitt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Leslie Says:

But McCain would rather go with a no-name than a Mormon I am sure. As much as I adore Romney, the Mormon factor will probably keep the evangelicals away, who are the backbone of the party.

  11. KKSM Says:

I don’t think the Evangelicals are as against Mitt as we are told that they are. The site, EvangelicalsforMitt.com is very pro Romney as per the name. I know alot of people in the south did vote for Mitt and would do so again. I also notice the vitriole in some of the comment boards I visit has slowed way down and people have softened a bit. Really, there is nothing to be afraid of. I hope McCain is smarter than that. All the polls that Mitt has won (and continues to win) ought to show something.

I will tell you what I am getting sick of… is the pollsters telling everyone that Mitt cannot help McCain and it could be because of the “Mormon problem”. It just bothers me that they say that and then they turn around and say that with Mitt on the ticket, polls show an upward trend for McCain…!!!!! How odd is that??? You really cannot have it both ways. It is as if they are trying to tell people how to think again! I am quite handy at that myself, I really don’t need their help in that arena!

Given a choice between putting a man into office with zero experience, and the ability to take the country so far left, we’ll never receover, I think the ‘evang’ who hate mormons, will pull the lever for Mac and Mitt, and swear they did no to their pastors.

  13. Chris Says:

I’m also sure that ‘file’ the DNC has on Mitt is pretty thin, as well! I mean, who are they REALLY going to get with the experience, presence, backbone, and yes, gravatia, of Mitt? No one. Richardson because he’s ‘Hispanic’? (only half). Mitt is part hispanic. His grandfather was born in Mexico. That makes him Mexican. (My husbnad is from Italian background, but born and Raised in Buenos Aries - and HE’s considered ‘hispanic’!)

  14. JoeinMA Says:

I am actually looking forward to the Dems attack on Romney. It will grow to a frantic level into Novemeber and make them look petty and hypocritical as the party of tolerance. Romney has shown he can take the punches and followup with a few uppercuts of this own.

With Romney on the ticket, maybe McCain’s campaign with get some spirit. So far, it seems the energy has been in a spiral.

The best thing is most people will being looking ahead at Romney as next president…not as a noname VP slot filler. Romney spent a fortune to get name recognizion. Now, he is center stage in the national converstation. Not bad from where he started just 12-18 months ago.

  15. Mit 10 Says:

I agree with JoeinMa. This could get interesting. I hope McCain will recognize what a good strategy it could be to have Romney on the ticket. It may not be the best choice for Romney but I think it is an excellent choice for McCain.

  16. KKSM Says:

Well, if it goes that well for McCain, then it shall carry forward and be a good choice for America therefore a good choice for Mitt. Too simplistic????

  17. Chris Says:

Mitt was on vacation last week. Anyone else notice how McCain sputtered around his talking points? It appeared it was hard for him to stay on message, without Mitt’s ear wispering. It just seems like McCain is so much stronger with Mitt around, than without him. Plus, in Mitt, McCain gets somone who can work on their own, with little supervision as all the others may need.

  18. John Says:

No Romeny equals no McCain for me!

  19. KKSM Says:

I just don’t know. If I don’t vote for McCain and Obama gets in there, I am going to feel very guilty! I just feel very strongly that he should not be in the whitehouse and in the highest governing place in our nation. I am conflicted. I pray I don’t have to make that choice… I pray McCain will do the right thing….
