Media: The gaffes Barack Obama has committed would have crushed the typical Republican politician. But the reporters who can’t get over Dan Quayle’s misspelling of “potato” have little to say about their man’s slip-ups.
Sometimes it’s hard to tell if Obama is really fouling up or simply puffed up when he tries to live up to his media-fed image as a leader ready for prime time.
Consider his claim during a news conference Wednesday in Israel that “just this past week, we passed out of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee, which is my committee, a bill to call for divestment from Iran.”
His committee? Obama isn’t even a member of the Banking Committee, let alone its chairman. So was it a self-promoting lie or a misstep? Only he knows.
In other cases, however, it’s clear the junior senator from Illinois has erred. It was Obama — and not a too-old-to-serve John McCain or a too-dopey-to-take-serious George W. Bush — who once said he’d visited 57 states, not including Alaska and Hawaii, and still had “one left to go.”
It was also Obama who said Tuesday from Amman, Jordan: “You know, it’s always a bad practice to say ‘always’ or ‘never’ ” — a statement only Yogi Berra could fathom but which those aboard O-Force One seemed to regard as incontestably profound.

As much as I dislike the media love-fest with Obama (it sickens me just like it does to see two teenagers making out on the city bus), I really think the McCain campaign and conservatives in general need to quit whining about it and instead do something about it.
Here’s what I’m getting at… there was tons of opportunity for Sen McCain’s campaigners to make news, to make an issue out of Sen Obama making his 1st, repeat only his 1st visit to Iraq & Afghanistan since being a Senator… and isn’t it odd that he only now cares about Iraq & Afghanistan when he had opportunity to do so as a Senator.
And what about his Europe escapade? Instead of whining about how much Europe loves him, why not point out that Sen McCain is not running to be the President of Europe, but the President of the United States of America? I think this type of messaging could have really pur Sen Obama on the defense with most Americans, especially conservatives who Sen McCain is still struggling to gain support from (myself included).
And why not take the chance to point out the obvious hypocrisy of Sen Obama, being in Europe, and being one of those “embarrassed” Americans who can’t speak a foreign language…. anyone notice that his speech was in English? I thought Americans were supposed to learn a foreign language Sen Obama? What about you?
I feel like things with the GOP are on the defense. It needs to stop now. The truth needs to be higlighted. So long as there is inaction, the Obama marketing machine will spin half-truths and vague promises to make convince people it is truth. Even though I don’t support Sen Obama, I have to say he has an impressive PR effort underway. Sen McCain’s campaign seems relatively asleep right now. Its just not right.

Joe,
We are not whining, we are pointing out the elephant in the living room. If BO really believes we have 58 states in the USA, what else doesn’t he know? Dan Quayle misspells potato(e) and the press goes ballistic for three days of wall-to-wall coverage. Obama has evidently never passed Geography and yet wants to lead the Free World? I wonder if he could have found Germany on a globe before he left for his World Apology Tour?
The bottom line is that BO is a light weight Leftie and John McCain, “warts and all” (to quote Lincoln)is light years ahead of Obama in terms of competency and experience.
BTW, the McCain campaign did point out that Obama had to go on tour to get a week’s worth of foreign policy “experience” while JM has been going on Senate fact finding missions for over a quarter of a century!
