What I See

July 22nd, 2008 Posted in Mitt Romney

Real Clear Politics

In reviewing the battle-ground states’ polls, I am ever more adamant that having Governor Romney will catapult Republicans out of their slumber and stupor and invigorate them to create a grass-roots organization to assure this country stays Red. With the ability to raise vasts amounts of money, it would do good for McCain to announce his VP incredibly soon in order to have the impact of the name recognition. What I mean is, how much more forceful would a fund-raiser be if it had - VP-Mitt Romney To Host John McCain for President Fund-raiser @?

I’ve talked to several Republican buds and they are discouraged. They feel as if campaigning is a lost cause and will only result in a more painful loss in November. Perhaps some of you feel this way and are at a loss as to what to do. Or maybe some are still angry about the fact that McCain is our nominee. I too feel upset; could I have worked a bit longer or a bit more intently on removing fact from fiction regarding the LDS-church? Unfortunately, the factors didn’t align themselves in our favor this election cycle but the past must not predicate the future…

Regardless of the opinion set forth by John McCain our adherence to Mitt Romney and conservative principles is firm. John McCain needs you. Not for his cause but for the good of the nation. Would you really rather vote for Obama then McCain? Think about it. Having Willard on the ticket will certainly impact the affect of winning this year but if he isn’t, be sure your fighting for the right side…

Of course I wouldn’t rather vote for Obama than McCain, that’s not the issue. I’m not going to vote for Obama under any circumstances. Well, unless McCain passes away before the election and the GOP nominates Jeremiah Wright or David Duke or someone crazy like that. Anyway, I will probably vote for McCain unless he picks another RINO for VP. In that case, if McCain wins, we get more Dems in congress in 2010, then after McCain’s one or two terms, another RINO is the front runner due to his VP status. In that case its more a question of whether I want to be stabbed in the front (by Obama) or the back (by McCain.)

  2. Mit 10 Says:

    Well said Bigmo.

  3. Chris Says:

I will vote for McCain. But the dealbreaker is Huck. Period. I don’t worry about that one, though. HOWEVER, my vote is much different than my support. Not one dime to mccain. Some one else said it here on CTR…he has my vote, but not my money or my efforst. It’s up to him to do it without our help, other than in the voting booth. I’m pretty much not up to working for a candidate who really didnot work for me.

  4. KKSM Says:

Chris: You are so funny. I bet you never even thought of CTR: Choose the Romney! I did… that is too too funny

  5. Mit 10 Says:

I agree. I may vote for McCain but I will not work to help him, no $$$$$$$ etc.I will not vote for McCain if Huck is the VP.

  6. KKSM Says:

Chris and Mitt10: I feel the same way only I feel empty when I think of this Presidency w/out Mitt. SEriously, I will be so let down. It helps me alot when I see the wisdom of those on here that teach me that it is McCain’s decision and I will have to live with it.

I will tell you though that we went to a concert tonight for Vets at the local Amphitheater. I had a chance to talk to our Attorney General, Mark Shrutleff. We have emailed considerable in the past and I took the opportunity to talk to him. He endorsed McCin months ago as well as Huntsman. I emailed both of them and discussed not only my disbelief, but my great disappointment! He told me tonight that he is talking to McCain about putting Mitt on as VP!!! He said “boy I’ve sure been trying, talking him up as much as I can. WE been working on it real hard”. It helped me some to see people that I know McCain respects are talking to him about blessing America with MITT.

I guess we shall see! Take care and sleep well if at all possible!

  7. Mit 10 Says:

It is good to know that Attorney General Shrutleff is pulling for Mitt. Mitt has come through this well, he is better known and very respected. We loose if he is not chosen but Mitt has won in many ways already.

  8. Steve Andrew Says:

What I’m about to say will anger some:

How do you rationalize not helping McCain? That realization is one of a naive and childish individual.

  9. bigmo Says:

Well Steve, I may yet help McCain, but first he has to help himself. If he wants to knowingly drive away conservative voters by picking someone like Lindsey Graham or Mike Huckabee, for example, I’d have to really question his judgement in light of everything else I know about him.

Obama also seems to have very poor judgement. This country seems to be headed towards very rough times no matter which of the two is elected. McCain may mitigate those problems by picking a wise, knowledgeable VP who could help turn the problems around, but if he doesn’t intend to, I think it would be better if our economic woes were blamed on a Democrat administration for the sake of our party and country’s future.

The only reason that lightweight hack Obama has a shot is because the voting public are fed up with the last eight years under President Bush. Many don’t realize the problems come when Republicans act like Democrats (McCain among them) and not from Republicans being Republicans. Let people be angry at the Democrats instead for a change. Obama and McCain both agree on an economically disastrous Cap and Trade policy. Let the blame for that mistake fall on the Democrats, it is, after all, a liberal policy, and has no business being pushed by a Republican in the first place.

Historically, the party in the White House loses seats in congress in the midterm elections. If McCain is in there, it will be more Democrats for him to “reach across the aisle” towards. If its Obama, it will be Republicans itching to stop those liberal policies from coming to fruition, rather than questioning whether or not to oppose them since they came from President McCain and not Obama.

That will in turn be a nice setup for the buyer’s remorse-fueled Mitt Was Right campaign in 2012. Like Ronald Reagan after Jimmy carter’s joke of a term, it will be a cakewalk for Mitt to run against an outspoken failure once the bloom is off the rose of “hope and change.” People will want real answers to our problems, and Mitt will be the man who has them.

We may end up with a couple of Obama appointments on the Supreme Court because of this, which is regrettable. However, the oldest, soonest to retire members of the court are the liberals. Replacing liberals with liberals will not be the end of the world. Besides, who’s to say McCain won’t pick liberals? Even Reagan mistakenly appointed one (Ginsburg, whom McCain praised during one of the debates and said he was proud for voting to approve her appointment.) I doubt McCain, who in the past has been all too eager to join with the most liberal members of congress on ill-advised bills, will manage to push anyone conservative in there to replace a liberal.

I’m willing to vote for McCain, but not blindly and unconditionally. McCain knows he has a problem with conservatives, and he knows its his own fault. If he exascerbates that problem by choosing a liberal crony for his Vice President, well, he will lose my vote. I won’t vote for Obama, I will simply vote Republican down the ticket and write in Mitt for president.

If I thought McCain was going to thwart the economic disasters ahead I wouldn’t do that, but we’re all Republicans here - lets be honest. He doesn’t have what it takes. If he doesn’t choose someone who really understands the economy as a running mate, he’s hopeless. It doesn’t have to be Mitt but it has to be someone good.

Ultimately, its his job as the candidate to win votes, not push them away. If he chooses a horrible VP, he doesn’t want my vote and I won’t give it to him. I’ll do what I can to elect conservatives in congress now and in 2010, and get Mitt in the White House in 2012 to start cleaning up the damage.

Name calling is not going to convince me or anyone else to do otherwise.

  10. Mit 10 Says:

This is the second time STEVE ANDREW that I have left a comment at you post and this is the second time that you have come back with a response that has been offensive. We may disagree but when we do we can do so with out name calling and with out labeling those with whom we do not agree.

  11. Paulee & Mike Says:

I hear all of you. I sympathize with this struggle for all of us. We have no choice, we have to vote for McCain, Obama would be so wrong for this country. I felt so violated during the primaries, actually totally depressed that Mitt lost. We can’t afford 4 years of a rookie floundering. At least Mccain is bending and listening. His age plays a role with Congress, I think he could reach across the isle, without completely selling out our conservative values. I’m with all of you, No Huckabee, no Crist, no Lieberman, if not MITT, it better be someone who brings to the table what we stand for! However, not working for Mccain with a running mate we could live with is only going to ensure a win for Obama. Be careful what you wish for. We get the punishment along with the dems. Now, consider this, just for giggles, remembering I want Mitt, like all of us do. V.P. someone other than Mitt, but a good person,Lieberman sec. of state, Guilani attorney general,Mitt CHIEF economic advisor? Do you think we could then help Mccain, he will need all of us, the media loves Obama, except for our conservative counterparts,Hannity, Rush etc. Grassroots efforts all over the country for Mccain will be critical. Mitt on the ticket will revitilize this country, not everyone, but remember the primaries, Mitt was 2nd!!!!!!! to Mccain….. As I sit here typing on Fox, a new picture of Obama dressed as Christ in the heavens, come on. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!!!!!
Okay, I can’t win, so I’ll take my marbles and go home, you guys, we are not quitters. What will Mitt do????? We all respect him, he is a great role model. I guess I just want what is right for the country, as I know all of us do. I’m sorry if I offended anyone, but, It’s a critical time. Our hurts will heal, right now, it’s all about this country’s future!!!!!!

  12. Mit 10 Says:

I think one of the concerns of the conservatives who post here is where is the the republican party that use to be a voice for the conservatives in American.

McCain may be a better choice but like Bigmo said he needs to help himself by reaching out to the conservatives with a VP who is conservative. A moderate VP choice will only alienate the conservatives who would like to have a voice in this election.

  13. John Says:

We will support McCain only when he picks Romney as his VP!

  14. Marybeth Says:

McCain might get my vote, but he gets my money and enthusiam ONLY if he puts a conservative on the ticket with him

  15. Chris Says:

    KKSM
Oh duh! I even have a gaggle of Primary age kids at home with the rings! Double/Tripple meaning. Choose The Right. Choose the Romney!

  16. Chris Says:

    Steve,
What you said makes sense, but McCain will get my vote, unless he gets Huck on the ticket - which i doubt he’ll be doing. My money…. I don’t have enough of it to just give away on a many I can’t believe in as much as I would like to.

  17. Marybeth Says:

If McCain puts Huck on the ticket, that is a deal breaker for me. I could NOT vote for anyone who would have the poor judgment to select that phony to serve in the second highest office in our country.

  18. Wolfagain Says:

Why the Religious Right is slowly but SURELY coming on board for McCain. A preacher on the subject of abortion on C-SPAN this morning explained it this way, “John McCain wasn’t our 1st choice, and he wasn’t our 2nd choice, but a 3rd rate fireman beats an ARSONIST every time!”

  19. Wolfagain Says:

McCain doing almost nothing but race is still TIED! Rasmussen Reports Tuesday numbers with “leaners” 46%-46%.
Obama polled 45% the day before his Mid East campaign Love-in with the MSM; today he polls 43% without leaners! American voters know a STAGED EVENT when they see it!
MSM reporting Obama’s call for more troops to Afghanistan like it’s Obama’s brilliant idea, but not reporting that the decision to increase troop numbers there actually was started by President Bush 5 weeks ago!
The New York Times rejecting McCain’s Op Ed becomes a bigger story than if they had printed said Op Ed! Far more know about it now than if it was printed.

  20. Mit 10 Says:

McCain has won over the Hillary supporters.

  21. bigmo Says:

They had Novak on Fox News just now discussing the rumors. He said one person from the McCain campaign told him it would be this week, another hinted at it, and one said it was just a ploy to get some buzz (which Novak said would be reprehensible if true, I don’t know if I’d go that far.) Mymanmitt.com is saying two sources have told them its going to be Mitt, one says its a “head fake.” At least there’s some excitement, also, I check out mymanmitt.com occasionally but they don’t update very often so I don’t check as much as I used to. However they were mentioned on Michelle Malkin’s hotair.com in regards to this so I thought that was cool.

  22. KKSM Says:

Well, it is all interesting if nothing else. It does keep things buzzing now doesn’t it???

I hate these games, they are so hard on the nerves.

  23. Steve Andrew Says:

I didn’t realize intelligent people get angry for having to be told the truth. I will keep my mouth shut and let you people discuss posts.

  24. bigmo Says:

I wasn’t angry Steve. I like you. You asked for an rationalization and I gave you one. Mit 10 was probably angry, but I can’t speak for him.

  25. bigmo Says:

“a” rationalization. I originally had typed explanation.

  26. Marybeth Says:

  27. Marybeth Says:

Oh, and if anyone is interested, this pro-Huckabee guy over at race42008.com is practically having a heart attack at the thought of Romney as the VP nominee pick.

He has a poll on his blog:

    http://jasontcpa.blogspot.com/

I went over there and voted for Mitt. Right now Mitt is leading by 2 votes!

[I took this personally because this guy says he's a Christian CPA (as am I!)]

  28. Mit 10 Says:

I am happy to speak for myself Bigmo. I am not angry but I would like to feel that I can come to this site and post my opinions and not be called not be called naive and childish. STEVE you can disagree without labeling or name calling.

And by the way Bigmo I am female.

  29. bigmo Says:

Sorry for the confusion Mit 10. I only mentioned you in case his response was directed to you instead of me or the both of us. I didn’t know your inner feelings on the subject so I made it clear I was speaking for myself.

  30. Mit 10 Says:

    No problem Bigmo.

  31. KKSM Says:

Anyone living in the Salt Lake Valley or vicinity, please tell Mitt 10 or KKSM. We are trying to get together for lunch. If interested, please say so. We would love to have everyone come…

  32. Mit 10 Says:

Marybeth I really appreciate the Christians who support Mitt. I know in some circles you may take a lot of heat because you support a mormon for Pres./VP. I am so impressed that you can see Mitt for the great leader he could be and not reject him because of his religion. And that goes out to all the Christians who leave comments here. Thanks.

  33. Marybeth Says:

Actually, Mit 10, I takeolic no heat for supporting Mitt. I am a conservative Roman Catholic from SW Florida. He has lots of support here!

  34. 2thepoint Says:

Marybeth, thanks for the heads-up on http://jasontcpa.blogspot.com/! I just voted and Mitt has a nice little lead.

Go vote all you wonderful ComMITTheads!

  35. 2thepoint Says:

    Wolfagain,

Thanks for the “John McCain wasn’t our 1st choice, and he wasn’t our 2nd choice, but a 3rd rate fireman beats an ARSONIST every time!” quote. I’m going to file that one away!

You’re so right about Obama’s “Mid East campaign Love-in with the MSM.”

As Republicans have drawn attention to the fact that Obama is receiving hail-to-the-chief-second-coming status from the MSM, liberals counter by saying we’re playing the “victim” card. The unmitigated gall of the left… That’s why Rush will continue to pull in the big bucks for years to come and conservative talk radio and FOX are riding the magic carpet.

  36. Doug & Darlene Says:

Mitt could use some positive posts:
