Decision ‘08: Reading Between the Lines

July 21st, 2008 Posted in Mitt Romney

Psychology Today by Jay Dixit

Mitt Romney

Exemplary quote: “No nation gave more, shed more precious lives, and took less for itself than America… America’s goodness and leadership in the world must be as bright and bold as our military might!”

Subtext: Romney’s language is über-patriotic, which usually signals a person without a platform.

Rhetorical style: Romney’s hortatory gusto—his use of adjectives, religious imagery, patriotic language, and references to voters—embodies old-fashioned, all-American, Fourth of July kind of language. It’s most often used by someone without a platform because it gives them something to talk about.

Handwriting: Mitt Romney’s letter forms are highly original and written with speed, revealing a fast, creative thinker,” says Lowe. “He’s highly intuitive and is able to pick up the mood of a room the instant he walks in. The long, simplified downstroke on the y says he doesn’t like to waste time on non-essential details.”

Yes but he had a platform…he had the most detailed platform of anyone running on either side.

  2. Steve Andrew Says:

I know. The article (not surprisingly) has a liberal spin.

  3. jenny Says:

If this exemplifies a lack of a platform, Jay Dixit needs to take a look at one of Obama’s speeches.
    How about:
Exemplary Quote: “You hope for change.”
Sub-Text: Obama supports “change” in the broadest sense, which usually signals a person without a platform.

Oh, so I suppose the value of patriotism is no longer important enough of an issue for the alleged psychologist that wrote that assessment to be considered an important aspect of a platform. Gee, I wonder who that person is voting for? Maybe Jay should just open up a Tarot Card shop on the avenue. Reading that was the biggest waste of 20 seconds I’ve had for a while.

  5. bigmo Says:

Well, at least its a step above numerology…

I think the handwriting analysis is interesting and I think someone with those kinds of skills would make an excellent Pres.

Mr. Dixit fails to mention that, numbered among the researchers judging the candidates’ thetorical style, body language, self-definition, etc., were the Witches of Eastwick, Nostradamus, and the Wizard of Oz…

  8. 2thepoint Says:

    “rhetorical” style :)

  9. bigmo Says:

Thetorical should be a word. It could mean theoretically rhetorical.

  10. 2thepoint Says:

Ha! You’re on a roll tonight, bigmo!

  11. bigmo Says:

Yours was good too. Now that was an interesting panel of experts!

  12. 2thepoint Says:

    Thanks, bigmo.

What the heck are we doin’ up so late? Romneyitis?!

  13. bigmo Says:

    Mittsomnia?

Jay Dixit likes taking cheap shots!

Mitt made his platform quite clear, but those who deny for a profit certainly made their money those few weeks. I can hardly wait to see what they do to Mitt if he is actually on the ticket with McCain! Loads of fun yet to come I think, or maybe it is I hope!
