Don’t Do it Dobson

Apparently “Dr.” James Dobson of Schmuckabee ilk “might” endorse John McCain. Not that I’m the biggest fan of McCain (and will only vote for him with Romney on the ticket), but I would hate to see John McCain have to accept this fool’s endorsement. Just the fact that it’s a might to begin with is enough to show this man the door.

At one time I would have felt the same way. However, in the “changing political climate” we MUST rethink priorities. The fact is that if Dobson does endorse McCain and Mitt is the VP - the Mormon issue should be neutralized. Other evangelical leaders should do the same for the good of the country

  2. David D Says:

Renna, I agree. This is too important an election to play around with personal preferences. The alternative (Obama) would be devestating, especially with judicial picks to the Supreme Court. I do not like McCain but I hope he gets all the endorsements he needs to win. And, hopefully, he will select Mitt as his running mate.

  3. bigmo Says:

Dobson didn’t have the courage to endorse Mitt during the primaries (although Mitt was clearly his preferred candidate at the time) but at least he waited until Mitt officially dropped out to endorse the Huckster.

  4. fritz Says:

Dobson has completely bungled this election. He virtually ruled out voting for McCain, Rudy, Thompson, and I’m sure others. That left Mitt and Huck. He didn’t endorse electable Mitt almost surely because he’s Mormom. That lack of central evangelical support for Mitt and so many other factors opens the door for the Huckster to wreak enough havoc to put McCain in his current position.

I agree we need to vote for McCain. Yet, it was Dobson who swore he could never vote for McCain early on. This man of principle lacked enough principle to go all the way and support a man of competing faith, but who was far superior to others in the field.

Dobson and Huckabee can’t “unfix” the problem they got us into. Nice job, you two! You gave us McCain. We told you this would happen a long time ago. Rush repeated that last week while I was vacation in Phoenix.

Hey guys, I’m no fan of NPR but check out this article: Romney Moves Up As Potential McCain VP Its also one of the few articles which bother to mention the real story behind Romney losing the primary race.

  6. Paulee & Mike Says:

Thanks, bigmo. As we all knew, the real story and then some.
No need to hash it all over again. It best not be Crist! He helped McCain with good ole dirty politics in Florida. Mitt was the guy, no question. It’s why I say McCain owes Mitt. I’ll write the nastiest letter they have ever seen if they pull that on us!!!!! Alittle suspicious are they, Crist’s engagement??? HUMMMMMMMM!

  7. Chris Says:

i dont like Dobson AT ALL. I think he needs to ‘endorse’ after Romney is chosen as Veep to bring all the bigots out into the open. They can either re-vist bigotville, or tow the line, as we’ve got a lot of work to do - with them or witout them. A ‘dobson endorsement’ with Romney on the ticket will signal to the bigots that it is just fine to vote for a Mormon.

  8. 2thePoint Says:

Thanks, bigmo for the article. Enjoyed it.

  9. KKSM Says:

Impressive article. Refreshingly honest to my way of thinking. I cannot help but think of Mitt as the most honest, the most integral, and the most ethical of all of them. Such duplicity… it is so annoying!

    Thanks everyone

  10. bigmo Says:

    Glad you liked it.

  11. Rose Says:

I would probably think a little less of Romney if he would be the vice president of a guy who’s damaged the Constitution so much with campaign finance reform and supports amnesty for illegal immigrants. It would make me wonder if maybe Romney just wants power.

I watched Lieberman turn more liberal in 2000 in order to be Gore’s vice president. I don’t want to watch Romney having to to be a spokesman for McCain’s bad policies.

  12. KKSM Says:

Rose: let’s give Romney some credit for integrity and soundness.

He does have a great deal of those you know. And alot of that aside, America needs Mitt on so many fronts and for so many reasons. I think perhaps McCain could humble himself and learn some great things from Romney… I guess we will see.

  13. bigmo Says:

Well, if Mitt becomes an amnesty shill for the McCain administration I will lose respect for him, but I don’t see that happening. Hopefully he will be able to talk some sense into McCain on the issue, or at least direct his attention and energies elsewhere. So far I haven’t heard Mitt defending McCain on any issues other than the economy and the war. If he carries water for McCain on campaign finance reform or illegal immigration, well…I think he’s got more sense than that.

  14. Leslie Says:

It’s looking like it will be a McCain/Romney ticket. There is just too much talk for it to go any other way.

  15. Steven G Stubbs (aka SGS) Says:

In interest of being fair, Dr Dobson did make it clear on why he is seriously considering the McCain endorsement. It has absolutely nothing to do with McCain himself, but everything with Obama. Said he, “Barack Obama contradicts and threatens everything I believe about the institution of the family and what is best for the nation. His radical positions on life, marriage and national security force me to reevaluate the candidacy of our only other choice, John McCain.” This is more of a “taking a lesser-of-two-evils approach”. Really, if you have been following Obama quite closely the past few weeks, you’ll considering the same thing. American Thinker (http://www.americanthinker.com) does a very good job of commenting almost daily on various aspect of Obama’s presidential plans as well as his personality. He is very, very, very scary!

  16. Romney Fan Says:

    Ann Marie,

As always, it’s great to read your posts. Thanks for all that you do! Just curious — where has Vic Lundquist gone? He needs to come back and send in some commentary to the site. We’ve seen enough about Jason Chaffetz for Congress and other entries that it’s time for some more serious discussion about Romney.

Bring back Vic — we miss him! The other guys are OK — but nowhere close to providing the Romney analysis and discussions we like reading.

  17. bigmo Says:

Well, I like everyone who writes for the site, and think they do a great job, but yeah I miss reading Vic sometimes. I was glad to see David start posting again too.
