Bush Lifts Ban On Offshore Oil, Gas Drilling

This article reminds me of the poker scene from cowboy movies, “I’ll see your five and I’ll raise you five.” Bush just placed the ball in Congress’ court and we are all watching.

July 14 (Bloomberg) –

President George W. Bush said today he’s lifting a presidential ban on drilling for oil and natural gas on the U.S. Outer Continental Shelf, setting up a showdown with Congress over a separate ban it put in place in the 1980s.

“Today I’ve taken every step within my power to allow offshore exploration of the OCS,” Bush said in a statement at the White House. “This means the only thing standing between the American people and these vast oil resources is action by the U.S. Congress.”

How long until the house and senate act? Nancy Peolsi has said she iwll look into having impeachment hearings. Meanwhile, I’ paid 415 for a gallon of unleaded gas today. She and Harry Ried don’t care one whit about me and my family. They care only about keeping their power seats. I say toss em all out on their ear. Let Nancy go home and live on my economy, and not her husbands riches.

The time has come to DRILL.

They are just so disgusting! I heard someone say today that what President Bush did was just a big hoax and silly. Can you imagine that??? What is wrong with those people? I do beleive you are right Chris, they do NOT care about we the little people. No on is so small as the completely unconcerned to my way of thinking…

I praise Bush today. Now, the ball is squarely in the Congressional court. Will they pass, dribble or walk? I don’t know, but I pray they will make the basket! They annowy me.

Isn’t it a collective kick in our American pants that the ability to fill our gas tanks, heat our homes, buy our groceries, keep our businesses afloat, and ensure our national security is now in the headlocking, noogie-rubbing fists of our fumbling, fractious, fretful congress?!

For 30 years, conservatives have sounded the alarm about becoming energy independent. Where has it gotten us? Congress has spewed talking points, posed for sound bytes, boozed it up with special interests, taken leisurely summer breaks, given themselves perpetual pay raises, passed the buck, and pointed their petty, non-productive fingers on this issue. So, now here we are.

To hear liberals CONTINUE to resist the necessity to DRILL wherever we can, as we transition to solar, wind, nuclear, etc. is more of the same head-banging crap we’ve heard FOR YEARS! If something isn’t done quickly, Americans are going to rise up and riot in the streets. Playing politics with our nation’s energy insufficiency is NO LONGER ACCEPTABLE.

IF Congress finally acts on the best interests of the American PEOPLE and opens up new areas for drilling, we MUST insist that oil companies build a proportionate number of new REFINERIES. IF government will GET OUT OF THE WAY, we CAN become energy sufficient, stop sending billions of dollars to foreign governments who hate us, and create thousands of new jobs at the same time.

I hope Mitt Romney is studying the nuts and bolts of this issue so when he’s named as McCain’s VEEP, he can jolt the energy debate and jump-start the opposition into action!

I read today where Rassmussen=Zogby has Crist and Palin as the top GOP veep picks de jour. I’m hoping they are wrong. Neither is ready for prime time. Palin is limited in her experiecne, and Crist is just to light in his loafers. However, I notice he’s rushing to the alter all of a sudden….. wonder what that gig is about? I wish McCain would end all this talk and get it over with. But he is waiting until Captain Zero makes his pick(s). (Several have already said not to even consider them). Peolsi had no concept how 415 a gallon is impacting my family. My grocery bill has jumped, my cost of doing business has jumped and my clients are not so hot about paying a higher price for my services (consulting fees) to make up for the cost of gas. My contracts go to the end of the year, and I have to hold to them. I challenge Ms. Nancy and master Ried to come to my home. Figure out how to feed and clothe 8 kids (all adopted). I want them to look my kids in the eyes and tell them although mommy and daddy are now making more money, we still can’t afford to let them play on a scoccer or baseball team. Why the piano lessons will get cancelled this year and why were once again shopping at DI for school clothes. All because of 4.15 a gallon. Thanks Congress, for caring about your party, more than you care about my family.

    Chris,

I hope that the Rassmussen/Zogby poll will prove to be wrong, as well. I agree that as wonderful Palin is, she needs more pen-to-paper, Uggs-on-snow governing experience. Love your characterization of Crist – too light in his loafers. Lol! You just know that, behind closed doors, McCain OWES Crist big time and VEEP may just cancel his debt. Ugh.

I give you a standing ovation for adopting eight children and just hate hearing that tight finances - due to the high cost of energy - prevents your kids from playing on a soccer or baseball team. I’m sure you’d like to keep them in piano lessons; perhaps you could barter your services with their piano instructors for lessons? Here in California we’re paying $4.53 for unleaded gas. Lots of folks have cut back – myself included. My son’s friends who are old enough to have part-time jobs can’t afford to drive to work! Their paychecks barely cover the cost of gasoline so it’s almost a waste of time to keep their jobs. This is just plain WRONG!

I think it’s safe to say that the bruising economic situation we’re enduring isn’t just a “pinch” in the pocketbook for most people – it’s a “chokehold.” When I hear Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi continue to whine about the evils of petroleum and the need to “go green” by fueling the nation with grass clippings and dandelion hair, I marvel that liberals are willing to take down the entire United States because they are too proud and manipulating to admit they’ve been wrong these many years.

I don’t care how dopey McCain has been in the past; at least he’s made recent concessions on his energy position. We can work with him. We can’t work with Obama. The massive, innovative machine called the United States of America can’t sustain productivity on pretty talk and pine needles.
