BOSTON –
Mitt Romney, the former governor and Republican presidential hopeful, has been named chairman of the Massachusetts delegation to the Republican National Convention, the state’s Republican Party announced Wednesday.
“I think the premise that Massachusetts is a blue state is off-base,” state GOP spokesman Barney Keller said. “We had Republican governors here for 16 years, and I think many voters in Massachusetts identify with our message of lower taxes and less government. Governor Romney is a great face for the message.”
The national convention will be held Sept. 1-4 in Minneapolis-St. Paul. Massachusetts Republicans will send 43 delegates and 40 alternates to the convention.
Locally, Dennis Galvin of Westford and Jack Roy and Pedro Garcia of Haverhill have been elected as delegates, while Alan Rubin and Georjann McGaha of Westford and Sean Murphy of Methuen will serve as alternates.
Jean Inman of Stoughton will co-chair the delegation with Romney.
Ron Kaufman of Boston and Monica Medeiro of Melrose will chair the Rules Committee; Isaac Mass of Greenfield and Jody Dow of Brookline will chair the Platform Committee; Inman and Brent Anderson of Auburn will chair the Credentials Committee; and Sarah Garland of Medford and Roy will chair the Committee on Permanent Organization.

Good for Mitt. I hope he has a major speaking role at the convention, whether he’s selected as VP or not.

Go Mitt!
Okay now for going off topic (somewhat),
Yahoo has this article about this year looking very similar to the 1970’s.
Can some one tell me how long we have said this here on this site? Since McCain beat Romney on Super Tuesday. Just thought it was interesting. Some one else came to the same conclusion we came to months ago (except they are doing it as comparable to the economy and not the election).

Sarah,
I can tell you. It was within several days of Mitt suspending his campaign, right after Super Tuesday. I posted an article entitled “Participatory Democracy”.
I said the situation reminded me of 1976 when Reagan tried and failed to win the nomination. Rather than react emotionally, Reagan just went back to work. He criss-crossed the country, giving speeches that spread the message of conservatism and helped elect conservative Republicans. In the process, he won supporters in all 50 states and built a formidable political organization. When he ran again in 1980 he had four years behind him to build a grassroots team and to gain acceptance within the GOP establishment. Which is PRECISELY what Mitt Romney has been doing for the last five months!
In the article, I encouraged Romney supporters to help elect a conservative Congress that would help a future President Romney enact his agenda. I know others have had the same idea that I had, because over the weekend I received an email from a blogger in Virginia who is putting together a new blog site there to elect conservative representatives to Congress.
We also witnessed this movement in the upset victory of Jason Chaffetz over six term incumbent Chris Cannon in Utah. Jason had an all volunteer campaign staff and several bloggers that I know of who helped spread the word, All of this is what I had in mind when I posted the article: Citizen involvement in the “nuts and bolts” of politics, to help sway the course of events.
To quote Theodore Roosevelt: “Their place will never be with those cold, gray souls who stand on the sidelines, knowing neither victory nor defeat.”
