Statement by The President
WASHINGTON, Jul 12, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) — Laura and I are deeply saddened by the death of our dear friend, Tony Snow. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Jill, and their children, Kendall, Robbie, and Kristi. The Snow family has lost a beloved husband and father. And America has lost a devoted public servant and a man of character.
Tony was one of our Nation’s finest writers and commentators. He earned a loyal following with incisive radio and television broadcasts. He was a gifted speechwriter who served in my father’s Administration. And I was thrilled when he agreed to return to the White House to serve as my Press Secretary. It was a joy to watch Tony at the podium each day. He brought wit, grace, and a great love of country to his work. His colleagues will cherish memories of his energetic personality and relentless good humor.
All of us here at the White House will miss Tony, as will the millions of Americans he inspired with his brave struggle against cancer. One of the things that sustained Tony Snow was his faith - and Laura and I join people across our country in praying that this good man has now found comfort in the arms of his Creator.SOURCE: White House Press Office

“Why do the good die young?” This just makes me so sad. His was truly a voice of reason on so many occasions and topics. Dark day. But, I am happy he no longer suffers. May his family be blessed at this trying time.

How sorry I am to learn this morning that Mr. Snow has lost his battle with cancer. It was evident from recent photos that Tony was suffering and had been suffering for some time. It’s so very sad that this good man’s conservative voice has been silenced; it is a comfort to know that he is no longer in pain.
While serving as press secretary for President Bush, Tony faced the daily barrage of often-hostile inquisitors with wit, knowledge, preparation, and skill. I always enjoyed listening to him on Fox News Sunday and in his various capactities, whenever he was on the news.
Tony’s passing reminds me of a quote from one of my favorite authors, Leo Buscaglia: ““Death is a challenge. It tells us not to waste time… It tells us to tell each other right now that we love each other.”
May Tony rest in peace and his loved ones be filled with “peace that passeth understanding.”

As we witness the unscrupulous words and actions of prominent figures today, one cannot help but grieve the loss of an honest, kind and devoted husband, father and patriot. Tony Snow was a “true” journalist. His messages were clear and correct. His intentions were always well meaning and his communication was always even tempered without a hint of anger, resentment or arrogance. His loss is a great one to civility in public discourse. He lived his life with pride, dignity and self respect. His attitude throughout his battle was always positive and an inspiration to others. His family will always reflect those influences as will those who were fortunate to call him a friend and colleague.
I often heard of the expense of his cancer treatments and wonder how that has impacted the lives of his family.
Ann Marie - do you have or can you obtain a resource for contacting his family and/or finding out if there is something we can do to assure that they are secure now and in the future. There is no one I would rather help at this moment than the loved ones left by this wonderful man.

This comes as a shock to me as I had thought his cancer was in remission.
I really appreciated the way he conducted himself as a journalist and as the spokesman for the Bush White House.
I am very sorry for his family and our country. His contributions will be greatly missed.

I first heard Tony Snow when he would substitute for Rush Limbaugh. I have always enjoyed Tony’s wit and wisdom and admired his obvious command of the issues.
Our prayers go out to the family that he so dearly loved. He will be missed by all.

I first found Tony when I was growing up in Detroit. He was a writer for the Detroit News, and later his columns were syndicated by USA Today. I always enjoyed reading his writing, and seeing his smiling face by his byline before his columns. I was really amazed to see him catapult to “the big time” like he did. Not to say that I didn’t think he was talented, I was just thrilled for him. If you’re a news person, and want to be a journalist, Detroit is one heck of a market to get a lot of experience in. Tony really excelled, and got his just desserts career wise. I’m so happy he was able to obtain the levels and positions that he did. It’s very sad to see him go, and I’ll be praying for his family to have the strength and courage to get through this absolutely grief filled time. All my love goes out to them.

The sparkle in his eyes showed the love in his soul. It’s a sad loss for us. I pray the Lord wraps his arms around his family and gives them the strength, courage, and understanding to get through this most difficult time. God love and keep them at peace knowing Tony, husband and Dad, will be in their hearts forever. God must have needed a great Press person. He will be sadly missed.
