HOUSTON —
Mitt Romney, a former top contender for the GOP presidential nomination, will speak at the Texas Republicans state convention this weekend.
GOP leaders say they expect a variety of opinions at the huge event, which runs Thursday through Saturday at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston. The state convention typically attracts about 14,000 participants. Of those, about 6,500 are delegates and 6,500 are alternates.

Today’s speakers include: Gov. Rick Perry, Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and House Speaker Tom Craddick. Tomorrow (6/13/08) U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, and former GOP presidential contenders Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney will take the podium. U.S. Rep. Joe Barton of Arlington is scheduled to speak Saturday and introduce the Texas legislative delegation.
No doubt the Ron Paul’s will be juggling signs on the fringe, Bush detesters will be marching at the gates, Bob Barr’s buddies will dot the landscape here and there…
Love Texas! The fabulous Lone Star State is sure to host a rousing, raucous Republican shindig. Can’t wait to hear and see more of our man, Mitt.

Watched the video. One Bostonian said that “Romney should be on McCain ’short’ list. His accent made it sound like he said “Romney should be on McCain’s ’shot’ list. Now, that sounds like something Huckabee would say.
