Onder Gets Ready to Rumble in Debate with Ken Jacob on the Right to Life
Below is the text of a press release from Dr. Bob Onder’s Campaign. Dr. Onder is running for Congress from Missouri. Although relatively new to politics, he already has two (that I know of) very impressive bills to his credit. The “informed consent” bill talked about in the press release and a very strong immigration law enforcement bill that we expect will be signed by Gov. Blunt.

Dear John,
St. Charles County - Dr. Bob Onder told supporters today that he was ready for any rhetorical punches that Ken Jacob, his Democratic counterpart in the race for the 9th District Congressional seat, might throw in their pro-life debate this Thursday, 7:00 PM at Waters Auditorium on the MU campus.
” I have defended the right to life for over 30 years,” said Onder. “Along with millions of other pro-life activists and supporters, I have heard all the red herrings, endured the name-calling, and cut through the fear tactics that pro-abortion forces frequently use to confuse the debate on life in our country. Pro-lifers are winning the battle. Today, Americans and Missourians are more pro-life than ever before.”
“Tomorrow, I will stand up for the unborn once again,” he continued, “It is my hope that this series of debates with Ken Jacob puts the pro-life issue in the spotlight, and helps us win even more Missourians to our cause on behalf of the innocent.”
Thursday’s debate is the first in a series between Onder and former Democratic State Senator Ken Jacob. The series started with a letter to the editor in the Columbia Tribune, in which Jacob offered to debate the constitutionality of House Bill 1831, Dr. Onder’s bill to strengthen the informed consent requirements of Missouri’s abortion laws, “anytime and anyplace”. Never one to back down, Dr. Onder responded with a challenge of his own - and Jacob accepted.
INFORMATION ON HOUSE BILL 1831
House Bill 1831 would have required abortion doctors to provide expectant mothers with all the information they need to make a fully and freely informed decision to undergo an abortion. That information would have included: (1) the physician’s name; (2) medically accurate information on the abortion method, medical risks, alternatives to abortion, including adoption, and information on follow-up care; and (3) the gestational age of the unborn child; (4) the anatomical and physiological characteristics of the unborn child; (5) the opportunity to view an ultrasound or hear a fetal heartbeat at a local health facility free of charge; and (6) information that it is illegal to coerce an expectant mother into having an abortion, and that she may withdraw her consent at any time. The abortion doctor would have also been made to provide patients with information from the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services describing: the unborn child’s development, including brain and heart functions; the possibility of causing pain to an unborn child through an abortion; the existence and services provided by the Missouri Alternative to Abortion program; and the fact that a child’s biological father is liable for child support regardless of whether he offered to pay for an abortion.
The bill also would have made it a crime to coerce a woman to have an abortion by either: (1) committing, attempting, or conspiring to commit an unlawful act against the woman; (2) abusing, stalking, or perpetrating an act of domestic violence against the woman; (3) terminating or threatening to terminate employment; (4) changing or threatening to change the conditions and benefits of her employment; or (5) revoking or threatening to revoke a college scholarship if an expectant mother refused to proceed with an abortion.
