Maybe just a little more. I believe so strongly in the pro-life and in the anti-gay position, that I would hold them even if it cost me an election.

I don’t want to vote for someone who adopts his positions based on winning or losing elections. Some ideas and positions are too important to shift with an electorate.

Romney is actually very conservative, born and raised in the Upper Midwest (Michigan) but, like millions of others, he moved away to college and only later did he have to compromise to get elected and govern in the bluest of blue states - Massachusetts.

What would his critics prefer? That he had moved to another state, say Arizona, where he could have campaigned and governed more in line with his core conservative beliefs? Would they have preferred he stayed in Massachusetts, not compromised and not get elected? For several reasons, including the fact he raised his kids there, Mitt has put down roots in Mass, tried to pull it a little to the right with his conservative approach and Massachusetts, and the country, is a little more conservative than otherwise, and much better off for it.

We should celebrate blue-state conservatives, not bash them over the head for their compromises if they later run for national office.
