President Bush is expected to meet with LDS Church leaders next week, the first meeting since the new general authorities were sustained in February.

The meeting between Bush and the leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is scheduled for May 29, said Rob Howell, a spokesman for the church. The White House has not released details of the trip.

“Romney had a very powerful fundraising operation with a lot of donations coming out of this area, and of course now he can leverage that to help McCain,” said Quin Monson, a Brigham Young University political science professor. “And the McCain campaign clearly needs the money to compete. They’re clearly not raising the small donors’ money that Obama is.”

McCain’s campaign report through the end of April showed that he raised $502,650 from Utah donors. Obama has raised $584,009 and Clinton raised $489,842 through the same period.

Romney, who was head of the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Utah, raised $5.5 million before dropping out of the presidential race and endorsing McCain.

I think this is so cool. I wish I could be up there to see all the hubbub… maybe I will make a trip to town. I have some things I need to do up there anyway, maybe that will be the day. I like everytime Pres. Bush comes to Utah. It seems he doesn’t get as much grief here. Although, the former mayor of SLC hates him and always acts unkindly when Pres. Bush comes. It is ok not to like someone. In politics, I guess it is not required, but he really goes overboard with the vitriol and ugliness….

More than anything, I wish I could be in that meeting. I would love to hear what they have to talk about.

Yes, Mitt has proven he is good with all aspects of money and is very good at raising it. It is his personality. He is charming and helps people understand what is going on and what isneeded….

KKSM, you’re close to all the action this weekend! Go to town! :)

The majority of Utahns believe in conservative family values and Utah donors put their money where their mouths are. Thank you, Utah!

Mitt is not only good at raising money, he knows how to budget money, make money work, cut wasteful spending of money, and grow money. His money management skills are just a small part of his terrific leadership capabilities.

Best wishes to Pres. Bush and LDS leaders.

Off topic - Happy News for Romney supporters in So. California!

Just read that Mitt and Ann have reached a deal to buy a home in La Jolla, CA (just north of San Diego). Their son, Matt, lives in San Diego. Woo! Hoo!

Ann and Mitt, welcome to the west coast! Hope to see you at Mission Beach, Seaport Village, or Disneyland…

I wonder if that means MR does not see himself going to Washington anytime soon.

    #4 Good Point.

Anyone else surf near the old ‘western white house’?

LaJolla is nice digs. Near the temple (nice temple) and near the beach. I think it would be a very good move to have a western white house in CA.

    John, John…..

The whole “McCain needs money” is a farce. McCain is one of the richest Senators. He doesn’t need money. Doesn’t anyone get it? I think if McCain is unwilling to spend some of his fortune on his own run, then he deserves to lose if he does.

McCain doesn’t need Romney. He needs a genuine and likeable social conservative. I’m liking Bobby Jindal, to be honest.

    Matt

    Matt, Matt…..

McCain is far from broke, but it is CINDY McCAIN that has the money in that family. I am sure you are aware that Sen. McCain and his wife have a pre-nuptual agreement. You are also aware that McCain carried his own luggage through airports last summer because his campaign was broke. What that means is that he doesn’t have enough grassroots support to finance a real campaign. He had to enlist the help of another candidate with no money, Mike Huckabee, to siphon off enough Evangelical votes to stop Romney in the early primaries.

Now, lets go over this again. McCain does not have: 1. Enough personal wealth to self-finance his campaign 2. Enough support and credibility with conservatives to inspire grassroots financial support

That leaves McCain dependent on the candidate who has the personal wealth and the support of and credibility with conservatives to mount an effective campaign, Mitt Romney.

  9. Paulee & Mike Says:

Well John, you convinced me. It all does make sense, but does Mccain owe payback
to any off these potential veeps??? There are some that went to the wall for him, and I truly believe that’s the only strategy that held Mitt back from becoming our nominee.
Also, how much power does the GOP have in any suggestions about his choice?
We know he is best for our country, and could certainly step into Mccain’s shoes should he have to. I can’t tell you how many people say to me , I was for Romney, what happened?? Then my blood pressure goes sky high. Surely curious how the barbeque went???? I heard Crist brought a lady companion, knowing a couple is better
for the veep position, another strategy????

  10. John Cronin Says:

    Paulee&Mike,

IMHO, McCain owes Crist for the last minute endorsement in the Florida primary. Mitt is collecting IOU’s from McCain every time he stumps for him and raises cash for him.

Bobby Jindal is a rising star among many conservatives, but he’s awfully young and inexperienced. Also, how does McCain hammer Obama about his “youth and inexperience” and then turn around and put a “young and inexperienced” VP on the ticket?

Gov. Romney is the best blend of experience, conservative following, policy positions and a very young looking and fit 61 year old. That being said, I still hope he doesn’t get the VP nod, because this whole situation just doesn’t feel right.

I just saw a headline today that McCain wants to go to the Middle East with Obama. Not sure what he hopes to accomplish with that. It would only serve to strengthen Obama’s foreign policy credentials a bit and I guess earn a few points with the MSM.

True conservatives (like Reagan) ran AGAINST the MSM. They don’t try to curry their favor.
