Mike Huckabee: 2nd Rate Pastor, 3rd Rate Comedian

I just checked out the reaction to Huckabee’s unbelievably irresponsible crack about Obama
delivered at the NRA meeting. THE LAST THING any politician needs to be talking about is this kind of stuff. It’s not as if the unstable people in our country (and judging from the headlines, we don’t seem to be experiencing any shortage) need any encouragement.

It’s hard to put into words the revulsion that I feel toward Huckabee at this moment. To put that thought into people’s heads to try to get a cheap laugh and pander to a constituent group at the same time is regrettable.

The NYT Caucus site had almost 400 comments when I went on the site late this morning. Absolutely played right into the hands of the lefties that comment on that site. Mike Huckabee is in over his head and he needs to get out of national politics before he brings anymore embarrassment to the Republican Party.

I have spent some time around gun owners, sport shooters and hunters. My experience with them is that they are very responsible people. The NRA, as you know, stresses gun safety, training and good citizenship. For that hack to deliver this kind of appalling remark before a NRA audience, adds insult to injury.

Huckabee owes an apology to: 1. Barack Obama 2. Michele Obama 3. The Obama children 4. The American people 5. The National Rifle Association 6. Real comedians

WHAT Was He Thinking? Posted by: Carol Platt Liebau at 5:05 PM Speaking on behalf of John McCain, Mike Huckabee actually made a joking off-hand comment about someone aiming a gun at Barack Obama.

Yes, it was a joke. Yes, it seemed unscripted. But one never, ever, ever jokes about the possibility of a rival (or anyone, for that matter) being assassinated. Especially when many genuinely fear for that candidate’s safety because of his race.

Such a remark isn’t just wrong and graceless. It’s downright dumb. Huckabee owes Barack, his supporters — and, for that matter — John McCain an apology.

Geez. With friends like Huckabee, neither Republicans nor gun owners need adversaries.

Even the lefties on wonkette noticed how even the NRA crowd stayed uncomfortably silent.

Granted if it had been a lefty convention and someone joked they had bush hostage and were going to burn him at a stake. They would all wet their pants with excitement

Huckabee lets his true colors shine again! Put Huckabee in as VP and a Democratic Presidency is virtually guaranteed.

I saw the clip and, strangely, his comments did not seem to me to be off the cuff. The response to the noise backstage was so quick I wonder if the whole thing was staged. That being the case, it makes Huckabee an even bigger idiot. Who in their right mind would say such a thing? In front of the NRA? The muted response to his “quip” was appropriate and what little laughter you could hear, was probably nervous “what buffoon would say such a thing” laughter.

    Huck wants to be VP:

Are you ready for all the verbal gaffes that he promised at the end of the article? If McCain picks Huck, Obama’s claim of Bush Part III gains credence…

  4. Carolina Says:

He sure don’t walk the walk of a “fine Christian.”

He is a foul mouthed, vindictive and petty little man.

And he is NOT a presidential quality human being.

  5. Naperville Says:

On the home page on the CNN website, there is a poll, “Would Mike Huckabee Make A Good Running Mate for John McCain?” Vote no!

  6. Scott R. Says:

I am already dubious about McCain. Most likely he will not be getting my vote. If McCain chooses Huckabee then I’m changing parties to something conservative.

  7. Chris Says:

I guess he fancy’s himself as the Jester in Chief, instad of the commander in Chief. I wonder too, is Huckles even aware there’s a difference?

  8. Mit 10 Says:

If McCain picks Huckbee, I vote for the conservative party and I may vote that way if McCain picks someone besides Romney.

Huck has run a muck. He is an embarrassment to himself, his supporters and the republican party.

  9. Paulee & Mike Says:

This time he shot himself in the foot!!!! Mccain has a sick sence of humor at times, he probably thinks Huck is funny. He shouldn’t even be on the same stage as Gov. Romney!!!!!! Actually, either of them have the professionalism that Mitt displays!!!!!

  10. Doria/Texas Says:

Very inappropriate comment coming from a former Governor and former presidential candidate. I just like to add that as a former elementary educator, if ever one of my students uttered an unacceptable comment, that student would be sent to the principal’s office. Huckabee’s comment was not funny.
    Good post Mit 10!

    Thanks Doria!
