Missouri Congressional Candidate Dr. Bob Onder Applauds Passage of Immigration Bill

Posted at 12:51 am under Mitt Romney, Illegal Immigration, Dr. Bob Onder

I just received this email from Dr. Bob Onder’s campaign office. As some of you know, I was asked to join the Onder campaign as a member of his Media Advisory team recently. I can’t tell you how gratifying it is to be a part of this man’s campaign.

Please take a look at the policies set forth in Dr. Onder’s immigration bill that has just passed in the Missouri Senate.

Last summer when the U.S. Senate attempted to pass the McCain/Kennedy amnesty bill without public hearings and with no debate, I was shocked. It appeared that we had lost control of both our borders and our politicians.

Now, less than a year later, Dr. Onder has authored a bill which the Missouri Senate has just courageously passed, that moves toward the re-establishment of the rule of law in an area of enforcement that here-to-fore has been characterized by the wink-wink and turn your back approach.

Congratulations to Dr. Onder and his legislative allies on the passage of a bill that is very important to the future of America!

Onder Applauds Passage of Immigration Bill

Jefferson City–

Representative Bob Onder today applauded the passage of his immigration reform bill, House Bill 1549, through the Missouri Senate. “Americans welcome legal immigrants with open arms.” Dr. Onder said, “but we will not tolerate open disrespect for the rule of law.”

House Bill 1549 enacts numerous provisions designed to stop illegal immigration in Missouri.

It (1) authorizes federal immigration enforcement training for Highway Patrol officers in conjunction with the federal Department of Homeland Security; (2) prohibits the existence of sanctuary cities within Missouri; (3) requires all commercial driver’s license tests to be conducted in English; (4) prohibits the issuance of state driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants; (5) requires law enforcement to verify the immigration status of all persons arrested in our state within 48 hours of their arrest; (6) contains various provisions to crackdown on employment of illegal aliens; and (7) prohibits illegal aliens from receiving welfare benefits.

The new requirement to check the immigration status of all persons arrested in our state was the most important part of the legislation, according to Dr. Onder. “It’s bad enough to break our immigration laws,” he said. “It’s even worse to commit violent crimes against innocent Missourians. If you come here illegally, then commit a crime, you should be given special treatment and moved to the front of the deportation line. This law helps ensure that criminally dangerous illegal immigrants will be sent home on their first offense.”

Dr. Onder pointed to an example from New Jersey in 2007, were an illegal immigrant charged with raping a five year old girl was released on bail and later charged with the execution-style murder of three college students. “That case is a perfect example of the negative consequences of ignoring federal immigration laws,” Dr. Onder said. “In New Jersey, they had a guy in custody who they knew was here illegally. Rather than start the deportation process, they let him go. Sadly, it appears that three college students paid with their lives for that lax enforcement. My bill ensures nothing like that will ever happen in our state.”

Dr. Onder pledged to continue his leadership in support of vigorous enforcement in his campaign for the United States Congress. “The people of the Ninth District deserve a proven leader,” said Dr. Onder. “Just as I led a successful charge against illegal immigration in out state capitol, so too will I fight to bring respect for the rule of law back to our nation’s capitol.”
