Vote for Mitt in the VP Madness Poll

May 12th, 2008 Posted in Republicans, VP, VP Prospects, Vice President

Sorry folks for the long absence folks, but I am only temporarily back from the dead. My life got many times more hectic about the same time Romney dropped from the race. I’m still reading all the news but am no longer able to report it.

I did want to draw your attention to a certain poll that Hector from Romney Veep Watch has been pushing for a while now. The poll is sort of a play-off format between possible VP candidates. Right now it’s in the second round (out of 5) and Romney is currently losing to Mark Sanford, 55-45.

Voting closes today, so head on over to CQ Politics and vote for Romney in their VP Madness Poll.

If Romney wins, next up is Romney vs. Huckabee.

  1. Frozone Says:

This might be rigged, Romney has been at 45% all round. Let’s open the floodgates and see if we can move it a notch.

And remember, this is only good fun. Don’t be too disappointed if he loses. This format is weird and stacked, to say the least.

So reprising the old refrain: VOTE FOR MITT!!

    Ahhhh, feels good… ;)

  2. 2thepoint Says:

Thanks, Nate. Good to hear from you.

I voted. Who knows if it means anything but it makes me feel like I can still do something for Mitt! I’d like to see Romney make it to the next go ’round - so he can do handstands ’round hollow Hollywood Huckabee.

  3. Frozone Says:

Oh, it’s working. Mitt’s moved up a percentage point! Go Team: Vote FOR MITT!

    Heh, heh ;)

  4. Jon B Says:

Thanks for the link. By the way — US News reports Huckabee is the top of McCain’s VP shortlist. Hope it’s not true but you may want to leave some logic and reason in the comments section to save McCain from himself. Here’s the URL:

  5. copp Says:

The Hucka-beehive is voting for Stanford to kill off Mitt. Curses!

  6. frozone Says:

copp is right. It’s us against the world!!! At least we are for someone, not against everyone else…

  7. Chris Says:

We all need to start writing the McCain camp. If he picks Huckie, were out. No money, no support, and of course, no votes. Try winning this thing without the most loyal of conservative voters - the LDS vote. With Huck, McCain loses - big. He needs to hear it LOUD AND CLEAR. I also find it odd that Huck has not been on ‘the list’ until now. He’s not doing diddy squat to help mccain. It makes me wonder if this is not just Mccains way of ‘vetting’? See how any negatives a guy has. Well, lets show him how high Huckabees negatives really are. Start writing…now!

  8. Leslie Says:

Let’s all hope McCain picks the Huckster. Then they will both be mercifully killed off in November, leaving Mitt open to run in 2012. We don’t even want Mitt on a losing McCain ticket. It will not help him at all for 2012.

  9. KKSM Says:

Good point Leslie, but what of America? Mitt is our only chance as I see it for any kind of redemption…. If McCain is foolish enough to pick Huckabee, say good bye to the party for this go around and America is in deep doodoo! sorry, but that is exactly where we will be as a nation and I don’t think that is what God Himself intended for this great nation, but America has to make its own choices, I just don’t want to have to suffer for the bad choices of those who shouldn’t be in leadership in the first place! KKSM

  10. peter combes Says:

Didn’t get my contribution posted yesterday. Guess an opinion that Mitt shouldn’t get in bed with a liar who participates in the “Global Warming” scam isn’t acceptable. Mitt can’t come back to put it together again if McCain takes him down with him. - P

  11. Paulee&Mike Says:

Unfortunatly, Fred Barnes on Fox last night, who has been for Mitt, stated inside Mccain’s camp, high up, stated Huck is his first choice. Time will tell. I have to say, when you read his overview at VP madness, it is so Huck, and we all could add alot
more. Now, if we can’t have Mitt, in reading the overviews, who looks like the best
choice to you all????? Kinda curious what you all are thinking?????? I don’t mind telling
you, but I don’t know enough about some of those people! I do think Rob Portman
is more like Mitt, is his background and morals sound???? HELP!!!!!
I do think Mitt will have a position somewhere, that is perhaps what they worked out
the day he backed Mccain. We all hoped that Mitt would be VP. The more I think about
it, the more I think Mitt needs to be an individual, not Mccain’s VP. Look how dishonest
that whole group was!!!!! Huckabee will be Mccain’s lap dog, he’ll do anything for attention. So be it!!!!! Will we all vote ,if it’s Huck? I vowed I wouldn’t. He does not deserve to be VP, he is mean spirited, arrogrant, a showoff, and actually uses the
Bible all the time to try to impress people, rather than the way the Lord intended.
Boast! boast! Boast!! Maybe I’m wrong, and just turned off by that whole group,
never the less, I just can’t vote for Huck!!!

  12. Ron Says:

It’s been said that we needed a Jimmy Carter in order to find a Ronald Reagan. I wonder if we also need another Bill Clinton in order to get a congress in the likes of the Newt G years. After all, it was the congress that pushed the wellfare reform and the spending reform. They presented Clinton with a bill to allow oil companies to drill in Alaska, but Clinton vetoed it. John Cronin is right about getting behind conservatives at a grassroots level. If McCain doesn’t get off of the Global Warming idiocy, it won’t matter who he picks as VP, this could be a lost cause. How can he seriously fix any economic problem if he buys into the lefts plan to destroy capitalism.

Is it possible that the best thing for the country is four years of Obama, recession, $10 per gallon gasoline, and a break up over national health care, before America wakes up? Right now, I don’t even trust American voters to pick an Idol, leave alone a president !!

  13. Doug & Darlene Says:

Saw this over at the MittForVeep website - (A case of political intrigue) - Interesting….

  14. Doug & Darlene Says:

Well, it is now Sanford vs Huckabee - I voted for Sanford!

  15. Doug & Darlene Says:

Interesting UTube video from the McLaughlin Group over at the NewYorkForMitt website on who McCain will choose for Veep.

  16. Chris Says:

So, I have it figured out. It’s a joke. McCain has his staff joking when asked and telling them the least likely person to e picked. Huckie is not campainging for/with or about McCain. His support is tepid, at best. His base is very narrow and shallow, and most of the US (some southern states excepted, but not VA which Mitt won, but Mccain and hucks dirty tricks stole), will never vote for this team. My feeling is: It’s only 4 years. And if we work hard enough to get a downline in the house and Senate, the damage will be minimal. Now is the time for damage control, incase McCain goes south on us, and actuall PICKS the most offensive person for the slot.

  17. MarK Says:

All I can say is if McCain picks Huckabee, they deserve each other.

  18. Doria/Texas Says:

The VP Madness poll is now in the 3rd round. Like Doug & Darlene mentioned ,it’s now Huckabee vs Sanford. I didn’t vote. Tell me about another VP poll and I will only vote for Gov Mitt Romney.
Hey, I wish I had been at the Hilton Americas-Houston Friday with my very favorite, Gov Mitt and the Beach Boys!! I was actually in downtown Houston on Saturday morning running an errand! Maybe next Gov Mitt comes to visit Houston or Austin, I would love to attend and listen to one of his inspirational speeches. Take care, everyone.

  19. Tami Says:

    I voted for Sanford!

  20. Chris Says:

Well although these ‘polls’ are fun, they are not truly refelctive of the hought process of those that vote. Just remember: Huckies base is narrow, shallow (like him) and very, very limited. We know that. And if McCain picks Huckie (which I doubt), then it’s over and McCain really did not want to be president in the first. place. Have Cindy write Huckie a check for his mortgage to thank him for his’help’, but don’t reward him with the veep slot. The country will suffer, as that one move would cause a loss of the entire west, north and east. As much as the Huckie team thinks otherwise, you can’t win he election by carrying only a handfull of states in the South.

  21. LeEric Says:

Vote Sarah Palin! See if Huckbee can deal with an unknow beating him out!

I would love to see Palin as Mitt’s running mate in 2012. But I am bias, she is my Governor. ;-) She also gave birth couple weeks back to a bouncing baby boy!

Like Mitt, Sarah took Alaska’s governor spot in 2006 due to her not being part of the ole boys club like all the other politicians. She brought in fresh new republican blood into the field.

  22. EVELIO PEREZ Says:

  23. KKSM Says:

I thought the case for political intrigue was extremely interesting. I am confused. I don’t much care for McCain but I know if Mitt can like him after all the dirty things he and Huckabee did to him, I could at least try harder. It is just so hard though, especially after yesterday’s comments on global warming. Ick…

THe youtube video was pretty good. He seems to be mr mccain’s best friend. Maybe McCain will get a clue about some certain realities. Do ya think??? KKSM

  24. frozone Says:

I hate to break this to everyone, but all of Huck’s supporters have nothing better to do than “vote” on VP polls. He’s retaken the lead in the next round. Oh well… ;)

  25. Leslie Says:

Let’s see how ole Huck fairs in Utah. Can McCain really afford to blow off the southwest?

  26. KKSM Says:

Southwest? Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, etc, etc. The way I see it, Huck only helps with the south… I cannot really think of anything else he could bring in for McC…. Mr Mccain needs to think about this very very hard… He is hard headed and it doesn’t seem he is listening to the architect, Karl Rove… too bad!!! KKSM

  27. frozone Says:

I read last week that McCain doesn’t have a VP Search Committee (remember Cheney led Bush’s), but that he was doing this himself. This go it alone approach is a harbinger of things to come, and I fear he will do it over and over again, in other areas too, where he is also out of his depth. I find no solace in that. Queasy anyone?

  28. Doug & Darlene Says:

  29. KKSM Says:

Probably the most honest non-skewered poll out there! KKSM

  30. Mit 10 Says:

If it is Mike Huckabee then bring on Obama. McCain will lose in Utah.

  31. Paulee&Mike Says:

Mccain is a hard head!!! Thinks he alone has all the answers. Why not a committee to help sort who is best for V.P.??? Has anyone heard the results of his medical records
yet? Obviously, he has quite an ego!! As far as Huckabee goes, after seeing what he is capable of, and not capable of, who would ever trust him. I so remember him saying,
I just don’t buy into it’s Mccain’s turn. That’s someone you want by your side. He refused to leave the primary, he thought he would win Texas!!!!! He bombed!!!!!
Stabs people in the back on national tv, thats someone you want by your side????
No ethics, all show, all Talk, all ego, petty, jealous and down right vindictive, if he is
Mccains pick, that speaks very loudly about who Mccain is!
In my opinion, in order for Mitt to come back without all the baggage bestoyed upon
him, he would need to speak from his heart to ours. Similiar, to his CPAC speech.
People see him as so successful, they think he doesn’t need this position and have
a hard time to relate. Not his fault, the media messed that all up. I love a winner!!!!!
I think most here do!! He has lived the American dream, now teach and share your values to others so that they have the hope this country has promised. Get to that personal level , it convinces and gives people their dreams back. Everyone I talk to
loved Mitt. Mitt ran into the good old boy network, and who was he to fix broken Washington? Personally, he was absolutely right!!! I may be all wet, but that personal level makes one feel the others heart. People bond, don’t they??? Then the work begins!

  32. Paulee&Mike Says:

This I just found out, gopnation.com VP votes between Mitt and Huck starts May19th.
Huck beat Mitt 80 something to 13%. Do we have a way to really get the word out?
I hate it when Huck wins!!! Heard again last night, Huck’s on Mccain’s really short
list!!!!!Isn’t that exciting? YUK DOUBLE YUK!!!!!!
Work is calling, have wonderful day, all.

  33. Chris Says:

I have sent McCain a letter. Not that it will do any good. His ego and wife’s cash is in the way. AND because I’m LDS, I seriously doubt he’ll pay much heed.

In essense, I said “Let’s all Welcome President Obama!” Then went on to outline why I felt that Huckabee was, is and will always be totally unexecptable as veep, a cabinet member or dog catcher. I also told him that many, myself and family included, would rather suffer through 4 years, than to vote for someone we find so offensive. We are having a hard enough time voting for him, let alone putting huckabee on the ticket to divide the party even further. I also reminded him that his own mother told us to sit down, shut up and vote for her son. I will not be told to ’sit down, shut up and vote for her son again, if he chooses Huckabee. Not acceptable - in any circumstances.
It’s just for 4. We can write in Mitt, we can take to the convention and force McCain to do the right thing in NOT picking Huckabee (almost anyone else would be accecptable). We can force mccain not for force this bigot down our throats.

  34. 2thepoint Says:

Here’s an interesting article from the Wall Street Journal (authored by Holman W. Jenkins, Jr.) that is complimentary to Mitt:
    http://online.wsj.com/article/SB121072757568390373.html?mod=googlenews_wsj

As we all know, it didn’t take long as the campaign got underway to smell a rat - two rats, actually. Rodent McCain’s ambitions were greatly threatened by Romney’s superb intelligence, private-sector experience (incl. masterful SLC Olympics), successful Masachusetts record, money, good looks, debating abilities, and prinicipled scandal-free personal life. (We have subsequently learned that DNC chief Howard Dean FEARED MITT THE MOST, and make no mistake, so did McCain.) Rodent Huckabee’s nostril-flaring bigotry against Mitt, combined with his tail-twitching extreme jealousy of him, signalled to McCain that, plotting together ( VP place for Big Mouse Mike), they could gnaw away at perceived “Fat Cat” Romney - and both win.

Now that McCain has achieved “Big Cheese” status, he’s got to honor the under-the-floorboards deal he made with Huckabee. Remember how both of these rats denied any collaboration throughout the campaign?! We could smell them a mile away!TNow, these two nose-twitching members of genus Rattus have to line each other’s nest, or the trap they set for Mitt will be sprung and they’ll both be caught!

Regarding their perception of Romney as THE CAT: Remember, cats have an acute sense of balance and flexibility. When they fall, they always land on their feet! It’s called “RIGHTING relfex” and Mitt is the RIGHT guy for America. Cats have nine lives and when the rats’ carcauses are rotting, Mitt will be licking his paws!

    Meeeeeeow!

  35. Leslie Says:

I totally agree Chris. I’m okay with a president Obama over a McCain/Huck ticket. I think the republican party has some big lessons it needs to learn. The most important thing is that bigotry won’t get you anywhere. Huck is a religious bigot, and if McCain chooses Huck it doesn’t speak well for McCain at all. This choice will imply that the Mormon vote doesn’t count, so let’s all show him it does count. Let’s see if McCain can lose Utah and still win the nomination. It may be just a few electoral votes, but in an election that could be tight, every vote counts.

  36. Chris Says:

    Leslie,
It’s not just Utah. It’s ID, WY, CA, CO, AZ (bugger if AZ topped to Obama), NV MI, MA. Just about anywhere except the bigoted south, mac will lose. And I will work hard to ensure his loss. McCain is diffcult enough to muster the punch in the booth. Add Huck to the ticket, and that Punch will either be a write in or an Obama-plican. We need a hard lesson, and Obama will delviver it. right to the doorstep. The ’staright talk express’ has stopped, let me off and backed over me with the Huck issue. Not acceptable.

  37. Doug & Darlene Says:

Saw this over at New York for Mitt - Huck back in the race???????? I don’t feel so well….

    http://wenatcheeworld.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080514/OP03/285397815/-1/OP

  38. KKSM Says:

I read the article and I have one word… “arrogant”!

  39. Chris Says:

Here’s what we do. ID and NM needs to get mobilized RIGHT NOW. We need to either get them to vote for Mitt or McCain. (perfer Mitt). Then, when Huckie gets so little traction, the world can then tell this ego laden ‘preacher’ (the most non-humble one I know) to go back. go home. Don’t come backi.

Now is the time. start calling Idaho….NOW

  40. Paulee&Mike Says:

Excuse me, have I lost it???? Did he not quit the race after Texas???? Is there not a difference between suspention, which Mitt did, and quitting??? Does not suspention
allow you to come back?? Does not quitting mean your done??? I’m refering to Huck, of course! This brings me a real issue of confusion. If Huck is so close to being VP, why in the world would you compete with Mccain???? Do you suppose he knows differently?
Shoot, up one minute, down the next!!!! I’m really confused! However, Mike Huckabee is a total misguided soul. He’s a hurting, eqotistical, arrogrant, bigot!!!! Is that article for real ? Seems the media would be all over this news!!!!!

  41. 2thepoint Says:

Read the article and had to rub my eyes a few times to make sure I was seeing what I was reading… What a delusional narcissist - a real nut job.

I’m laughing so hard right now, I’m slobbering! I’ll bet McCain isn’t yukkin’ it up like he was a few weeks ago with Huckasheister in McCain’s bus. “Oh, you’re welcome to campaign with me in my bus anytime” purrs the old guy to the Goober. Haaaaaaaaa!

  42. Chris Says:

This tells me he is no where near the veep slot.

Still, start calling! Get him to GO HOME with this bass between his knees.

  43. Mit 10 Says:

Huck is not playing the part of the dutiful soldier. He is so STUPID. The GOP does not respect this man. He is off his rocker. What is he thinking? Could you imagine if he was in charge in Washington?

  44. Sarah Says:

I agree. Idaho needs to get mobilized. Huckabee need to Go away. He needs to grow up and stop saying “ME!ME!ME!ME!” I want to slap him I really do.

Okay now I take a deep breath. I really hope God will give the Preacher-man a lesson. Or maybe he already is?

  45. Chris Says:

And…. I think it’s a joke. Apparently the chap who wrote this, is a kidder and joker.

Too bad. I think it could have really deep sixe

  46. Leslie Says:

It seemed like a joke. But I wonder if Huckabee will be able to bully McCain into putting him on the ticket. He could do such things as mobilize his followers to vote against McCain should he not put Huck on the ticket. As much as I would love to see VP Romney, at this point McCain would be smart to choose someone he didn’t run against in the primaries. But McCain isn’t known for his smarts.

  47. Chris Says:

Leslie, I agree. McCain is not the sharpest pencil in the deck. If he and huck cut some backroom deal, then they truly deserve each other, and will have plenty of time to enjoy each other’s company after the election, as this is a big loser ticket, if I’ve ever seen one. BUT while it will be a hard 4 years, it will be a fun one, with president Obama, wouldent you say? I was in the military (navy) during Carter, then Reagan. Literaly, what a difference an election made. Moral, money, everything from one day to the next when Reagan got elected. Even the terrorists were scared, as Reagan promised to make Iran a Sears Parking Lot to land our jets on, if they did not release them. No jokes. I’m a 50 yr old ex navy gal with a 3 yr old. My ’second’ career is as a wife and mommy to a boatload of kiddies we adopted.
Cheers. Enjoy the joke. I was sorta hoping it would be true - just to show the huckes’ true colors. But after reading the story and comments, it became clear this could be a hoax. Or, as one blogger put it, another McCain/Huck dirty trick to take votes from Ron Paul. In Idaho and New Mexico, I’m quite sure Romney would trounce Huckie, so that’s a non starter idea, if that was the case.

  48. Frozone Says:

    Hmmm,

Huck is not back in the race. It’s a joke. If he were, the only reason would be he needs to raise more cash to live the high life until the convention. Then it’s over. (campaign finance laws forbid him from raising any after). But the fact that he can’t balance his personal or state checkbook is all the more reason to disqualify him for the national stage.

    Nice try, next…

In other news, today’s the day for voting in the poll again. It’s Huck against the Tim Pawlenty, esteemed Governor of my home state of MN. Go for FOR TIM.

I have to say, though, that the poll is either rigged, or the Huckbot’s brainwashing has not washed off yet and his minions are still swarming like good drones. Either that or one of their ilk has a killer botnet at his disposal…

  49. EVELIO PEREZ Says:

  50. Paulee&Mike Says:

Not only poor taste, totally shows his true colors, this man should not be even considered for any public office. Statements like Huck’s can be very dangerous, and have very serious results. God forbid anything should happen to Obama. He’s a loose
cannon!!!!! He has proven this.. I find, people like Huck, eventually show their true
colors. Me thinks, he protests way too much!!!!!!!!!

  51. Doug & Darlene Says:

  52. 2thepoint Says:

Thanks for the article, Doug & Darlene. As the dust contiues to settle, the magnificence of Mitt Romney shines brighter and brighter.

  53. Paulee & Mike Says:

I heard that Mccain will meet with potential Veeps this Friday. Now, this should be interesting or depressing!!! Let’s all be prepared. Now, all the negatives will start to fly again. Let’s hope it goes well.
