Romney Stumps For Former Rival McCain

Interesting article at the DETROIT NEWS. We are not the only ones touting Mitt for office. Michiganders involved in state politics are trying to draft Romney to run for Governor of Michigan in 2010.

Although it’s a very nice compliment, I hope MR keeps his eyes on the prize, the White House in 2012!

Michigan native Mitt Romney helps host an Oakland County fundraiser today for Sen. John McCain, and said Monday he expects to campaign for McCain in Michigan and elsewhere.
But don’t expect Romney’s future to include a run for office here. Despite the hopes of some Michigan Republicans, the former Massachusetts governor and presidential candidate said he has no plans to return to the state.

“There is no prospect that I will be running for statewide office in Michigan — or any other state for that matter,” Romney said. “I’ve made Massachusetts my home these last 35 years or so, and I don’t have plans to change the place where I run for office.”

There is a very good interview on CNN this morning:

Notice how Romney won’t let himself be drawn into a fight, even when he may disagree. Very classy.

The fact that John Roberts (CNN commentator) was pressing Romney for his opinion of lessening the gas tax for the summer shows that even the liberal newsies recognize Romney’s economic and business expertise. Romney diplomatically kept the interview on John McCain.

    2thepoint,

You are right. And the media will continue to respect him because he did answer the question, twice. Once by saying he didn’t do it in MA, and then again when he emphasized the need for long term solutions, not short term (election year) fixes. He just did it in a way that didn’t detract from what McCain is trying to do: woo voters.

Governor Romney is very precise with his word choice. When he crafts a statement, he means exactly what he says, and avoids dropping stray smoke bombs by sticking to the point. All business.

    I miss that.

WONDERFUL interview! Thanks for that link!! Oh how I want Mitt Romney as McCain’s VP!!!

I should also point out that these interviews brilliantly evidence Romney’s capacity to put team before self. If he is campaigning for VP, then his eloquent and tireless work in this regard can do nothing but help his cause.
