We’re (Still) No.1

May 6th, 2008 Posted in IBD Editorial, Newsweek, Ronald W. Reagan

Short article, but excellent points made about the litany of criticism that comes from the MSM about America’s perceived faults. To hear them tell it, this country has been on a downward slope for decades and that it’s only a matter of time before America passes from the world stage, not with a bang but with a whimper.

I beg to disagree. Hopefully you do, too.

America’s Role: Newsweek thinks the U.S. is fading in a “post-American world.” We beg to differ. We are still Reagan’s shining city on a hill. As in earlier times, reports of our impending demise are greatly exaggerated.

We are still quoting Reagan’s soaring rhetoric.

Perhaps cover stories such as Newsweek’s explain it. We will not drink from their half-empty glass.

Indeed, we will not.

The Soviets were going to bury us, remember? We buried them.

    Goodmorning everyone,
We are the shining city on the hill, only, John, I think we need some better leadership.
We cannot react, we need to have vision. People in positions, on the hill, need to be honest, step out of their perfect little world and truly see what is happening in all people’s lives. We have economist, they can’t forsee all that happens when we are so dependant on foreign oil, etc. We need tourniqets sp. not bandaids at this point.
On another point, Bobby Jindal, 36 yrs. old for VP. Mccain is going to loose, if he doesn’t smarten up. Now, the gas tax deal is touted as useless. Where is the magic
button????? Now, he says we need a comprehensive immigration plan. Okay, they say
he is probably going to loose in Florida, all the good it did Crist, Lieberman,
Martinez, and Mccain to lie about Mitt. It seems there are more latino dems than republicans, let in illegally. Is he already backing down on his word about that????
He’d better start pulling some straight talk that America needs to hear. He needs some
excitement around him, pretty soon . Concerned about our being seen around the world as NUMBER 1. There are so many intelligent people in this country, where are they? We need action!!

If McCain pulls another amnesty bill out of his hip pocket, that empties the bench as for as I am concerned. I do not trust him on this issue as far as I could throw him.

The price for my vote is to control our borders and to enforce the existing laws. I am 100% opposed to anything that remotely suggests that millions of law breakers are going to get a sweet deal that is DENIED TO LEGAL IMMIGRANTS.

If McCain won’t do that for me (and for millions of other voters) then my next move is very simple. I WILL WRITE IN MITT ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT.

  3. peter combes Says:

I guess I’m getting a bit off topic but my current inclination is as follows. If McCain choses Governor Romney as VP, I will support the McCain ticket. If McCain’s ego would let him listen to Governor Romney enough, it would serve the country’s best interests and stop the bleeding. I do not however feel this is in Governor Romney’s best interests. When you hang around with swine, you get dirty and it’s hard to get off. The MSM would use it in the future.

If McCain chooses someone else, I would be inclined to write in Governor Romney and wait out the disaster I expect to see from either winning ticket. I would then support Governor Romney during the next go around to “Turnaround” the country as he did with the SLC Olympics and then got Massachusetts started, though I expect they will be able to redirect what he began rather than continue it.

Does it matter what I think? Not likely. Just another opinion. Sure wish I was smart enough to write better. - P

  4. Paulee&Mike Says:

Peter, no putting yourself down!!!! The common thread is we all support Mitt 100%
I need to learn how to use spell check, I’m always in such a hurry! I think you wrote
just fine. I agree, guys, I’ll write in Romney as well, Mccain better smarten up!!

  5. KKSM Says:

Listen up everyone! Who cares how you spell or type? As long as I can make sense of it, I simply do NOT care. Paulee is right on all counts today! Our common thread is Mitt. What to do about Mitt??? I am so disppointed in McCain that I cannot stand it. Amnesty??? Of course, he doesn’t call it that! Jindal??? I pray not. On amnesty alone, he could lose the election, then where would we be???? I will go back to having no one to represent me! AGAIN!!! Write in Mitt? Probably, but it is futile and divided. Apparently, there is quite a motion to write in Mr. Huckabee too… arg!!!

When Mitt suspended the race, I was (like MANY, MANY others) quite devestated! I felt that I had no candidate for whom to vote. I have some hope McCain will be smart and get Romney in there, but we are right when we question how good that would be for Mr. Romney! He is important here and I do not have ANY desire to see our “pearl of great price” tossed to the swine! You are right about when you lie with pigs you get stinky and dirty! So, how to pray? What to pray for? As for me, my prayers tell God that America is very important and very important to Him. He worked pretty hard to establish this land for religious freedoms etc. Alot of people have suffered for it. God is quite invested in America. He will not let those who love Him and His son and the country down. So, all that being said, who is in charge here??? It is not me!!! (darn it, I always maintain that the wrong people are in charge around here!) It is God. Mitt is a great man and has spent his life serving God, man and community. God will bless Mitt back if he stays who he is, retains his integrity and spirituality.

So, all that blathering down in print, I pray that since God is all powerful, he will find a way to bless Mitt and America. He is omniscient and omnipotent. I have to trust in all that….

Paulee and perhaps Lisa (don’t know if it is this Lisa or not), you are doing great over on that hideous gopnation site. I still cannot figure that one out. We have all been good at defending Mitt. He is a good man, it galls me and has for a long time when crooked gets to win! maddening!

  6. Paulee&Mike Says:

Yup, it’s me, Paulee, Lisa, Mike,Michael, it’s all of us!!! Can’t stand those misfits.
They sure have Huck cranking on that poll. I promised I wouldn’t write over there about the Maine Convention, I’m just rattling their cage, seems to work. They aren’t
going to ever see what we see. They are blinded by the Huck! It’s their right. I just see him as a country bumpkin. That’s an expression we use in Maine. Shame on us,
    right?
Mccain is going on with ORielly tomorrow night. That should be interesting. Thursday
    eve.
I can’t stop thinking about how proud Ann and Mitt will be at their Canterbury banquet.
I hope we get coverage, hint, hint, John…. I bet we will.
KKSM: You been holding your own over there at gop, Tenn. right?
Have you seen the clip of Mitt at Maine Con. ? It’s on youtube. The wonderful Flag story. Go see it, you have to!!!!! Take care all, opps, Mitt was on msnbc, fox, and radio
today. Do you guys remember when Mac, Mitt, Mike will be together????
Can’t wait to see the body language. I wonder if Mike will be as brave to Mitt’s face
as he was behind his back???????? Probably not. Later
