John. and I remember clearly that John said he learned alot from Gov. Romney on the campaign trail. One fact for sure, Mitt never wavered on immigration. John begrudingly
stated, he had heard the American people. The other committment was, Keep the Bush
tax cuts, again begrudingly stated. Did you all see Google Alert Mitt, Washington Post,
the five picks for VP. No# 1 Pawlenty. They also list the dems.

Harold C. Hutchison,

Regarding your comment about the "Republican primary electorate": That was a big part of the problem this primary season. McCain's views on immigration do not represent the stance of conservative Republicans....his views represent the Democrats and Indies that crossed over to vote for him. It was the open primary system in some states that allowed McCain to win the nomination. Exit polls showed that a hard line on immigration WAS AND IS A WINNER among conservative Republicans.

If a "soft line" on immigration is a winner, why did McCain and Co. get their hands slapped by the electorate in the summer of 2007? Polls showed that a breath taking 78% of Americans were opposed to his amnesty bill. If a soft line is a winner, why did they drop the bill like a hot potato and why did McCain pledge that he "has heard the American people" and will work to secure the border if elected?

Actually, I think McCain needs to do number 2, but I think that number 1 has been a loser for the GOP, and it's probably going to bite them for the next two-plus decades. A hard line on immigration has not delivered anything for the GOP in Virginia (in 2005, it didn't help them win the governor's mansion, didn't save a U.S. Senate seat in 2006, and didn't save the state senate from going Democratic in 2007).

I'll also note that McCain, DESPITE his support for the approach to immigration set forth by President Bush, won the Republican nomination. If a hard line on immigration is a winner, then why is John McCain going to be the nominee?

I think the Republican primary electorate either supports - or at the very least doesn't object to - the approach that McCain and President Bush have proposed for a number of years now.

John, in reading your comments above once again, your right on. We need to define
our republican pledges to this party. It's when you get people trying to change the dynamics of what our party stands for, like no one is watching, because they can't get jobs done in Congress. Baffles me, this system doesn't seem to be working. To many
dems, not enough rep. Am I dumb, it will always be a gridlock, unless we have rep.
leadership and rep. congress? Somehow that seems unfair, isn't there a way to overcome this? Is this system, because of minorities, differences in the parties
beliefs, have we outgrown how things have always been done??? I am really sad that
for seven years, it's been all bickering, little results. Don't get me wrong, I respect the
Bush's, I voted for them, but look at oil, gas, health care, what have we done to be proactive??????? Can anyone calm this storm we have been in? If the only way to get things done is vote dems, they will control, or again it's gridlock? Am I right?
What fixes this problem? I for one, am getting mighty frustrated!
I'm listening, help?

Okay, John, that explains everything! I feel better now. Mitt was on msnbc, fox, and even on the radio. He's certainly getting around. The big event for the Romney's
tomorrow. I hope they get some respect and they are honored in the media, as well.
They deserve this wonderful recognition. I'm very happy for them.
Go Vote, Go Vote, Go Vote!!!!! We can't let Mitt lose!!!!!!!!!!

KKSM, Paulee&Mike,

I assume it's for two reasons. 1. They are probably write-in votes 2. Ron Paul's supporters have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Mike Huckabee's supporters don't have anything better to do

I have a question... I don't know where else to ask this, so here goes.

I was just looking at the results for the Primaries on the computer. I am wanting to know how come Mike Huckabee's name still appears on the ballots and Mitt's does not. Mitt suspended, Huck dropped out. Why does he still get to be on the ballot and Mitt isn't??? Same question twice I know. Can't help it. Does it bother anyone that he got so many votes????

The bracketing appears to be an excuse to boost Huck into the second round by pairing him against the despised Lindsey Graham. Ok maybe I'm reading too much into this. Ha. I ended up having to vote for people whom I don't want in the position just because people they were paired against were worse, or not voting for people whom I would like in the position because their opponent was better. I think they should set it up where you pick 50 percent of the available candidates and then next week the least popular half overall are eliminated, rather than A vs. B.

Jenny: I am glad I made you laugh! I am good at that! I have seen people do this bracket thing, I just never understood it until you explained it to me.... shameful!!!!

Well, as for the goofiness, it sort of takes away from the credibility of the poll if you ask me. Maybe I am wrong.

I hope to see this drum beat louder and louder and louder! I just pray for what is good for Mitt and the country! KKSM

KKSM: Lol. That's right, brackets often show up during tournament season (I've always associated it with basketball myself) when sports fans will fill them out with their predictions, usually for betting.
The bracket system is also how the tournament works, though. From two teams one will win and then they face another team, just like in that poll. I've never seen such a system used in a poll before. I would have to agree with you that it is "goofy"

Jenny: Ha ha on me! That shows the obvious! I don't do sports.... no, incorrect, I was a great softball and volleyball player. I just don't understand that bracketing thing I guess.... Is it generally associated with betting??? Thanks for setting me straight!

Paulee: Thanks. I agree. WE are supposed to have freedom to worship almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, only very few get that when it is their neighbor... It is great for them, but not for others sometimes... disgusting!

Hey, where is Rusty??? The Morman issue again. Why can't they let it go. Even Al
Sharpton, made a trip to Utah to check out the religion!!!!! He came back and reported
lots had changed and he was satisfied with his information. Mr. Wright has said such horrible things, let's hope Mormonism can get a break. Everything was so nice, the
Morman's sent representation when the Pope came, just terrific!!!!! I think it terrible!!
Let it go, people! It doesn't matter, we have freedom of religion, don't we??????

KKSM: It's a bracket. If you are familiar with sports brackets (particularly basketball brackets) that is how this poll works. Each person is matched up with another person. The winner will then be matched up with a new person, and so forth, until all but two choices are eliminated.
Mitt will probably be up against Mark Sanford in round 2.

I think that may be one of the goofiest polls I have seen. It is hard for me to understand the results page. Why do they match them with someone else? Does anyone get it? I know I don't....

The other thing I don't know is why do "the Mormons" always have to come into EVERY conversation? It is weird to me that I cannot go on any blog, any comment board or any newspaper article and become inundated with "the Mormon" issue... sometimes quite offensive! But, I did kind of ike this one where it said Mr. Wright has put Mormonism off the concern board... I hope that is true.

That said, I like the article above. I hope the drumbeat becomes deafening! I hope McCain gets the message from us. However, I know other groups are trying to get "their guy" in there too. I don't have alot of trust in the wisdom of McCain I hate to say...

You're welcome. He's up there pretty high so if we can get everyone over there to vote for him then maybe it'll go higher.
